As soon as Google’s morning event wrapped up, an email hit our inbox, claiming HTC is going to unwrap a brand new, Marshmallow-powered One device on October 20 via a “virtual event.” What is meant by virtual event, HTC states, “This is not your traditional smartphone so we aren’t hosting a traditional launch event.”
The event is set to kick off at 12pm EST on October 20, which is 9am PST for those on the west coast.
As to which device HTC is referring to, we assume they are speaking of the One A9, a device that has been leaked left and right, but we would not exactly put money on that. The timing matches up well, given it was reported we would see the One A9 launch this November, however, nothing is ever confirmed until it is announced and official.
If HTC does announce the One A9, the device is reported to feature a 5″ AMOLED display, Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM, microSD card slot, 2,150 mAh battery, 13MP rear-facing camera, and an UltraPixel camera along the frontside. If it also comes running Marshmallow, that is most impressive.
The live event will be streamed right here.
Excited?

>2150 mAh
um what
Other than underwhelming specs, why is this “not your traditional smartphone”?
The presentation will be mostly blocked by a black bar with a giant HTC logo. Could possibly be a white bar too.
Not throwing away my HTC 8 not quite yet
Htc is dead now.
As a user of the M7 (Verizon unlimited data upgrade thanks to DL) I have become quite fond of the IR blaster on the “One” line of phones. With 3 young boys in my household, having a remote that’s always in my pocket is priceless. If this announcement is for a device that actually has a combination of features that makes it competitive (qi charging, NFC, SD slot, impressive battery, IR functions) I’ll be very tempted to purchase.
Is Samsung the only other Android phone manufacturer putting IR functionality into phones currently?
No, LG has it as well. I’m not sure if Moto does.
Dont think Moto does, though I’m basing that on the fact that it’s not on the 2nd or 3rd gen X’s.
What’s an HTC?
Just what I always wanted. A Taiwanese iPhone clone with Marshmallow. /s
That makes sense. /s
That makes “Sense”?
But seriously, those A9 leaks. Put a home button where the logo is and tell Apple fans that it’s 6c. They’ll sell millions before anyone catches on.
The M9 updated to 6.0 by the end of the year is the best announcement they can make to me. And HTC already announced it. Man its good time to be a M8 or M9 owner.
Until they run into delays!
The A9 already runs 6.0 out of the box. I HIGHLY doubt there will much difference between it and M9/M8 from a software perspective. The only delays I would foresee would be carrier approvals but those are to be expected.
I’ll 100% check it out/stream it….on my Nexus 6P
Virtual, as in, the audience isn’t real?
LMAO!!!!
Will be live streamed from a public library with free internet access.
They were kick out of their previous World Headquarters at the local Starbucks
If they actually come out with a real phone… maybe all this leak is covert reverse psychology marketing, to set the bar so low… but knowing HTC’s sad excuse for a marketing team, that’s most likely not it.
Excited? Only if they announce the M10 that’s a direct replica of the M7 but comes with 4000mah battery, 8 to 12MP ultrapixel sensor with OIS, microSD card support, even louder boom sound, capacitive buttons (if you’re gonna keep the black bar, might as well make it useful) and…. wait for it… first flagship of the upcoming cycle to debut with SD 820.
Can’t wait to see how they take Marshmallow and vomit Sense all over it, then wonder why their phones aren’t selling.
Looks better than touchjizz!
A9 lol
The only way I’d be excited for an HTC device is if they were chosen to make another Nexus.
The Nexus 5a9, why not? No skin jank because no skin.
Yup pretty much.
Then people could get updates finally to their HTC devices
Is it a “Going Out Of Business” sale?
Seriously HTC? Killing the mood here.
With a 15inch bezel
A Jay Leno sized chin with HTC stamped on it.
In other words, we can’t afford to do live events due to crappy sales, they’re too expensive.

Excited? Only if this was 2012…?

+++++
is it the 10th “ONE” HTC is going to announce?
Instafail.
I’d be more excited if it came as a Google Play Edition with fully STOCK Android….oh, and SMALLER (4.3-4.6″) with an 820 chip and I’m sold 😉
That’s cool they better price that thing at or below the nexus 5x if it even wants a chance.
This will probably be very carrier focused. Cheap *on contract*
Contracts are a dying breed. Whether htc realizes this is questionable.
So AT&T and Sprint?
DOA on Verizon as Verizon doesn’t care about HTC anymore.
Interested in seeing what they do with the software…. new Sense version?. . . As for the hardware…nobdy cares HTC it’s NEXUS SEASON
Funny thing is other then tech sites that new HTC will outsell the nexus.
Of course it will, it will be tied to carriers at a cheap price. But what does that matter?
HTC and cheap price? Nahhhh.
I doubt it
Nexus devices never sell in any decent numbers. Yeah the play store runs out but that is because of poor preparation.
They sell enough with no advertisements and they’re better products regardless of sales.
Not because of poor preparation, the Nexus line is not made to sell a bunch of phones. Its made to showcase the new Android software.
I hope so. I love Sense 7 but I would welcome an update.
There will be an update to Sense 7 with 6.0. According to Jeff Gordon from HTC on Twitter.
Meh. . . I want Sense 8. I’ll be expecting for the M10
Oh yea, I wouldn’t expect Sense 8 until the M10 for sure.
Assuming HTC lives that long 😛
But if you have bought an HTC device in the past year and a half, don’t hold your breath for an update
I’m going to assume you mean ‘haven’t’ bought an HTC device in the last year and half. Because you HAVE bought one in the past year and a half, and you live in the US, your probably already on Lollipop. If you haven’t, your either using an M7 or an M8 on Lollipop. HTC has said the M8 will get 6.0. If you have an M7, I honestly wouldn’t expect it. The M7 shipped with 4.1.2, getting support through 5.0 was amazing. Getting it through 6.0 is a luxury of the highest order. If you have a DNA or an OG One, your dreams of support for the latest android version from HTC have been put out to pasture a long long time ago.
