Despite the fact that it’s 2014 and we already are seeing some of this year’s flagships hit the market, you may still be interested in one of Motorola’s 2013 flagships, the DROID MAXX. Though its chief appeal for many is its gigantic battery, there are many other things going for it including Active Display and Touchless Control. Verizon today has announced the addition of two brand new colors, High Gloss Red and Black with Chrome Accents, and this may perhaps push you over the edge to purchase this phone.
The two new colors are available on Verizon’s website immediately, priced at $99 on contract or $24.99 per month with Verizon Edge, and they are expected to hit Big Red’s retail shelves starting April 22nd.
As a refresher, the DROID MAXX features a 48-hour battery life, 5″ 720p AMOLED display, 10-megapixel rear-facing camera, Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System, and Android 4.4, Kit Kat.
You can purchase the device at the link down below.

Was waiting for a good Doge meme with like “wow” “so colors” “shine red” but I was too lazy to make one lol
Why do I feel like someone at VZW messed up? My Maxx comes with 32GB…by default… sooooo this is a downgrade just for a pretty color? Looks like the Ultra to me… hmm.
No contract price = $499.99
Edge price = $24.99 * 24 months = $599.76
Not quite no interest financing.
The old model only came in 32gb and the new colors only come in 16gb. Still no sd slot.
Still no root or unlock on 4.4………
i was able to unlock mine, retail and not dev version either. You want it, im trying to sell it 🙂
how much? not looking to spend a bunch just picked up a M8 full retail!!
$375, $400 with case. All original packaging/Charger and unlock/relock bootloader key
What kind of case?
Just put this up yesterday. Trade by chance?

No thanks. Not big on the G2 personally. I’ll probably end up throwing mine on eBay or swappa this weekend.
Not true I have 4.4 rooted…… You shouldn’t have jumped on 4.4 so fast if you would have followed jcase method you could have rooted 4.4
When is the EOL of the Droid MAXX?
It was released in August 2013, so assuming 18 months of support that would put it at February 2015.
Same old sh#&t just a different color
Change your avatar and we can say the same thing about you. 😛
Dear Motorola,
Thank you for the OG Droid – everything since has been crap – my Razr MAXX HD lags even when I update apps and the camera sucks – never again – bring on the LG G3 and I am taking a chance with it –
The Droid Maxx is nothing like the Razr Maxx HD. It uses a totally different chipset (the X8 from the Moto X) and has twice the RAM. It’s like night and day in terms of performance.
MAXX is not the same as RAZR Maxx HD. Completely different animal. My MAXX never lags and runs like new and have had it since day 1. Trust me you can’t go wrong with this phone. The X8 computing system runs a dual core 1.7GHz snap-dragon like a four core CPU. THe four core Graphics processor is the whole difference, it screams. The other two processors make for an unforgettable and very useful experience. This is a NICE phone….
Here is pic of my desktop
Love my Droid Maxx. It’s going on 8 months now and still runs like new, no lag or jank anywhere in site. Should be getting 4.4.2 in a few weeks according to Moto (via G+).
What’s the name of that widget? Looks awesome!
Thanks! Not sure what it’s called, it’s a Zooper Pro widget I found on XDA. I like it because it resembles the Droid Command Center but without requiring the stock launcher. Here’s a link to the template: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/60283759/Circles.zw
Thanks much man, hopefully it works on my Moto X.
Should work fine. To get it the same size as in the screenshot, change the scaling to 100. I used a 4×3 widget to move it down away from the status bar, but it will fit in a 4×2 space as well.
Do you just download and install it?.
Download the Zooper Widget Pro from the playstore, it’s 2.49. Then make sure that the template he gave the link to is in the Zooper Widget Pro folder in your system files. I use Astro File Manager. Just move the template out of your download file, and into the Zooper file. Then just move the widget to your homescreen that you want it on.
Since you guys are talking widgets can someone please tell me where I can find this widget? It’s based off of Google wear. Saw it on G+ but the person who posted it doesn’t say where to get it.
the only word i can use for that widget is “DOPE”
Just found it! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thedevicers.zwskin.androidwearzooper
Why is your battery and clock blue? I thought Kit Kat mandated all status bar icons to be white.
xposed modules allow you to change them, maybe he has
That’s the way VZW wants those to look.
According to Moto, they were required by VZW to leave them blue in 4.4 for Droid branding purposes. But enough of us have complained that supposedly they are going to make them white in the upcoming 4.4.2 release. I hope so, because I much prefer the all-white look on my wife’s Moto X.
I hope you’re right and they do change them to white. It’s something so small yet it still makes a difference.
Ditto, love this puppy.
Me too. My MAXX runs like new and NEVER lags.
Still hideous
The glossy kevlar doesn’t look good at all and it’s a finger print magnet. The plain Kevlar always looks great, I just wish they provided more colors. I have a Razr HD in white and I had to get a carbon fiber skin to match, which made it look really nice.
I wish Moto didn’t skimp on the Droid MAXX and would have given it a 1080p display. While I find 720p more than enough in most situations, I think it works for a 5″ screen. An SD card slot would have been nice too.
Maybe one day my Droid Maxx will finally see 4.4.2 … getting impatient!
According to David Schuster of Moto it’s a few weeks away: https://plus.google.com/116418267332875979279/posts/ijpCKijFord
Especially considering 4.4 messed it up
How so? I’m running 4.4 with no issues.
I’ve been a pretty die hard moto fan, back when everyone hated them too…droid x, x2, razr, razr maxx, RAZR Madd hd, Maxx and moto x.
With that said, kit Kat update on the Maxx, for a lot of people including me, significantly reduced battery life and caused issues with the cameras focus.
Toss in the let down of the visual appeal to kit Kat, white menus, transparent menus, gogle now integrations (or lack thereof to be precise)…
It just ruined the phone without bringing much to the table.
Sorry to hear that. I would recommend a factory data reset to help with the battery issues if you haven’t tried it. One consolation is that we are apparently getting the all-white icons finally in the next update (according to David Schuster of Moto).
Curious what you mean about Google Now integration being lacking? I use Google Now all the time and it works great with Touchless Control. The only way I’ve seen it more integrated is with the GEL on the Nexus 5, which can also be side-loaded on the Maxx.
Well, during a soak it’s not real unheard of to do a factory reset a number of times.
Also pretty common is having to sideload recovery if your phones bricked, assuming other remedies aren’t working…it’s supposed to be why we are in the soak…not only are we willing to wipe out our phones, we know how to do it effectively Brin it back to exactly the factory image.
…admit, been a while and a number of phones/skins later, but I seem to remember Google now integration not working real well, laggy, etc ???
Er, so have you tried a factory reset or not?
G’night to ya!
Wow…
Wow indeed … I have no idea what your previous comment meant. We’re not in a soak test right now, 4.4 was released to the public months ago and 4.4.2 is still under development….
This is the best phone I have owned.
The render on Verizon’s website is off center with the capacitive buttons, and my ocd is killing me
I bet a lot of people got the Maxx not only because of the bigger battery, but also the soft touch back instead of the fingerprint magnet gloss.
I can’t find the new page. Only the old one with the original color shows up.
You have to select 16GB then you can select the read to be shown.
Great phone. I use a tpu case however.
Bad link. Takes you to the old listing somehow. 🙂 Just fyi.
Change the storage to 16Gb and then it will let you pick the new colors. Very bad design IMO.
Note 3 with Zerolemon 10,000 mAh battery… better choice.
Too small
You forgot the /s
Well, if you want a lethal weapon in your hand, that’s the way to go
It’s Samsung….so no.
I much prefer my soft touch droid maxx
I cant believe they say the back is Kevlar. In stores on the live display devices you can tell where the “Kevlar” is faded from people playing with it.
“Kevlar” – covered by plastic so you can’t feel the kevlar.
That’s the Ultra.
And now the Maxx with the red coating.
So people are getting a Droid Ultra Maxx?
its supposed to be faded at the corners. it comes that way out of the box.
Confirmed. The first one I bought was like that out of the gate, had to be replaced for a radio issue; the replacement was exactly the same.
They cut storage to 16gb no go
Where do you see that? When I click the link to VZW it offers 32Gb for $599 or 16Gb for $499. Not showing the new colors though.
Just think about this for a moment:
The RAZR HD Maxx launched in 2012 with 32GB internal AND a microSD slot. The Droid Maxx launched in 2013 with 32GB internal standard. Now it’s 2014 and the Maxx is “refreshed” with 2 colors and 1/2 the internal storage. All the more reasons to give props to HTC for bringing microSD *BACK* and insisting on 32GB standard for at least the domestic M8 SKUs.
Also, the Galaxy S3 was launched in 16GB and 32GB versions simultaneously on VZW in 2012. In 2013, the 32GB GS4 lagged the 16GB one by a few months. In 2014 there’s not even a hint of a 32GB GS5 incoming.
