The OnePlus 7 Pro, like the OnePlus 6T, has all of the supported network bands to work properly on Verizon. After years of being limited to just AT&T and T-Mobile, the addition of Verizon as a network choice has meant big things around these parts. Since the 7 Pro is easily one of the best phones you can buy today, those long-time Verizon customers are once again choosing OnePlus.

But as with any launch, now that the OnePlus 7 Pro is starting to to find its way into the hands of the public, many of whom are on Verizon, we’ve heard about bugs or issues. Like with the OnePlus 6T at first, Verizon users are running into issues with calling and text messages.

We’ve scanned through XDA and reddit threads to find any common complaints and the majority appear to be as follows:

  • Verizon OnePlus 7 Pro owners have discovered an issue where incoming calls from Verizon iPhone owners are dropped once they are answered. Should the OnePlus 7 Pro owner call them back, the call goes through fine, but they keep dropping when incoming.
  • Another issue involves incoming calls from non-contact numbers showing as “RESTRICTED.”
  • A bunch are dealing with incoming text message problems.

A likely fix

A lot of this sounds like the OnePlus 6T launch all over again. When that phone launched, issues arose for those who quick-swapped their active SIM card from another phone over to their 6T. As a non-Verizon device, that simple swap without properly registering the phone left it with issues. To fix, many recommended that you call Verizon, escalate the call to an upper-tier support person, and then ask them to add “CDMA-Less” as a feature to your account to fix these things. While that may have worked, Verizon eventually told us the simplest solution that worked well.

Before calling Verizon, you should try to head over to Verizon’s site, login, and then jump to My Verizon>My Device>Activate or Switch Device>Activate On an Existing Line, and then follow the instructions that pop-up. This method will properly register your OnePlus 7 Pro with Verizon and should get features properly working, like text messages.

Is it certified?

I should probably point out that it doesn’t look like the OnePlus 7 Pro is fully certified with Verizon yet. Well, it could be, but the device is not listed as being certified on Verizon’s Open Development site where they’ve listed properly certified devices for years now. The OnePlus 6T is the only OnePlus device currently showing up there. If it’s not certified, that could be another reason for the issues here.

We’ve reached out to OnePlus to check on certification and also pointed out some of the bugs we just discussed. If we hear back any info, we’ll update this post. Until then, try to walk through the steps above to properly register your 7 Pro with Verizon.

  • UPDATE: OnePlus tells us that the OnePlus 7 Pro is certified for Open Development and that it should be listed soon.

OnePlus 7 Pro owners on Verizon, how are things?

Cheers Scott and Chris!
