With the Moto X review out of the way, it’s time to focus in on Motorola’s other offerings through Verizon, the new DROID family. First up is the DROID ULTRA, which arrived in review-unit-form from Big Red this morning. We’ll hopefully have the MAXX early next week, but for now, it’s all about the thinner brother from the same Chicago-based mother.

In terms of specs, the DROID ULTRA is almost identical to the Moto X (and the other new DROIDs), except that it features a 5-inch display, a glossy back finish, capacitive navigation buttons, and is incredibly thin. But on paper, most of the internals match up since it features a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with X8 Mobile Computing, 2GB RAM, 16GB on-board storage, no microSD slot, 4G LTE, and mostly stock Android 4.2.2. The ULTRA will be available in three colors:  white, red and black (which I have here).

But on the software front, the ULTRA matches the Moto X blow-for-blow (has Touchless Control, Active Display, etc.), while also including a DROID Zap sharing app and the Command Center 3-circle battery widget.

Our full review, comparisons, and feature highlights will arrive soon – for now, here is an unboxing.
