HTC Rezound to Receive Ice Cream Sandwich in June-July, Thunderbolt in July-August, Incredible 2 Status Up in the Air

by: | posted 05.22.12 | News

HTC posted a timeline for Ice Cream Sandwich rollouts some time over the last few days on their support pages and it includes more details than we have seen to date. The HTC Rezound and Rhyme will see Android 4.0 in either June or July, Thunderbolt in July or August, and the Incredible 2 is now up-in-the-air as to whether or not it will see it. Previously, the Incredible 2 was listed as a device on the upgrade list, so this is a new development. If you own one of HTC’s tablets, you are stuck on Honeycomb.

Motorola Adds “Global” Option in Latest DROID RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich Leak

by: | posted 05.22.12 | News

Stemming from yesterday’s report that Verizon does indeed have plans this summer to update the RAZR and RAZR MAXX, Rezound, and the DROID 4 to feature global capabilities, a reader running newly leaked Ice Cream Sandwich firmware on the RAZR has basically proved just that. From what we gather, when the device receives the official ICS OTA, it will bring along the global features. When exactly can we expect it? Well, according to Motorola’s update timeline, we’re looking at a very vague “Q2 of 2012.”

ParanoidAndroid ROM for the Galaxy Nexus – Finding Middle Ground Between Tablet and Phone Ice Cream Sandwich Layouts

by: | posted 05.21.12 | Galaxy Nexus, News, Root

Developers are continuing to make the Galaxy Nexus a classy device for all users. Since Ice Cream Sandwich is an OS made to operate on both tablet and smartphone devices, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to toggle between whichever layout you want. Being an Android user, if you want your phone to have the look of a tablet, you better believe there’s a mod out there to make that happen and ParanoidAndroid is just that.

This isn’t just some cheezy “tablet mode”, where it puts the notification bar at the bottom, but it is the actual formatting (two column layout) that you would see on an Android tablet. It’s a pretty unique experience and if you’ve been getting bored of the same old ICS look, then this is sure to give your phone a nice makeover. Download links and instructions for flashing can be found at the via link.

$75 Can Buy You Ice Cream Sandwich on a Stick, Take Android to Any Screen

by: | posted 05.21.12 | News

Last week, we wrote up FXI’s ICS-in-a-USB that was about to hit the market for a whopping $200. As soon as we published that, people started mentioning another option for Android lovers, which is called the MK802. For being such a small package, it comes packed with an 1GHz A-8 Cortex processor, 1080 video playback capabilities, 4GB of internal storage, and 512MB of RAM.

With the Android-in-a-stick devices, you can take the mobile OS anywhere you go and plug it into a display that has an HDMI slot for working on the go, or even playing your favorite games. Due to being such a reasonable offering, the product is currently Sold Out online, but more units are expected back in stock in the beginning of June. Prepare your credit cards.

Motorola: Not Upgrading the DROID 3 and DROID X2 to ICS Because It Won’t “Improve” Them

by: | posted 05.21.12 | News

Late Friday afternoon, Motorola took to its blog to help clarify its reasoning behind the decision to not upgrade the DROID 3 and DROID X2 to Ice Cream Sandwich. This note came just hours after they released a new timeline for Android 4.0 updates, which as in the past, did not include either of them. It seemed odd knowing that both devices have dual-core processors, were released right around the middle of 2011, and for the most part, have above average specs, aside from a lack of 4G LTE and only 512MB of RAM.

DROID 4 Users Find the Device’s First Official Ice Cream Sandwich Build in Testing

by: | posted 05.16.12 | News

Were you worried after purchasing your DROID 4 that it may not see an Ice Cream Sandwich update for some time? You were not alone, however, today’s finding of an official Android 4.0.4 build for the device is great news. Pulled via “Cheesecake,” this comes straight from Motorola and is more than likely the newest test build available. Actually, this is the first ICS test build for the phone, but this at least lets us know that Moto is hard at work on getting the latest version of Android to the D4.

If you would like to upgrade to this on your DROID 4, you can, but know that this will likely take you off of the upgrade path and could leave you on it permanently. As many of you know, Motorola phones and leaked test builds don’t always play nice with previously leaked fastboot files. Trying to return to Gingerbread could result in a bricked phone. Voodoo RootKeeper is also reportedly not keeping root. Proceed with caution.

On a related note, we should point out that the DROID Bionic is now the last major Moto phone without a leaked official ICS build. We were told that it will receive it at some point, but with RAZR and D4 builds in the wild, I think it’s safe to say that the Bionic will not be first.

Evernote Receives Major Makeover, ICS Theming and Lots of Awesome Included

by: | posted 05.15.12 | Apps, News

Evernote has always been one of the top Android apps, but today’s update took it over the top. A new UI with panel swiping and easier navigation made this not just a “must have” but a “if you don’t have this, you are completely silly” type of app for Android users. The search functionality is as good as it gets, the tagging and organizational abilities are something all apps should build from, and the fact that their dev team is staying current with Ice Cream Sandwich is worth an applause. Grab the file from the Play Store link below, but be sure to watch the video as well if you are new to Evernote.
