Tip: Gmail on Kit Kat Includes One Finger Zooming

You know that trick in Google Chrome and Maps that allows you zoom seamlessly with one finger? That would be with a double tap, hold then drag? That same trick works in Gmail on devices running Kit Kat. My Nexus 5 is currently allowing me to perform the trick, as is my Moto X on Android 4.4. However, the same experience can’t be had on my Moto X running Android 4.2.2.

Just sharing.

Cheers Jason!

Actually this can be used in any app that uses the browser base in KitKat. Google updated the browser base to Chromium which has the double tap enabled by default. I’ve used it in the Touchdown email app, Falcon Pro, etc.

Anyone know why google in their infinite wisdom has implemented this feature the exact opposite way for google maps compared to chrome and the new email app. I find the direction of zoom when you move your finger much more intuitive (and useful) in google maps but in chrome I just accidentally trigger it and it is useless for zooming in on a section of text you are trying to read so I think the feature is kind of dumb…

To be clear what I mean is that after you double tap moving your finger up zooms in on google maps and out in chrome and gmail.

Maps has been updated to follow the same gesture in Chrome and Gmail
