HTC’s Trade Up Program Will Get You Up to $300 for Trading in Old Phones After Buying a New HTC

HTC is so excited about their current and future lineup of phones that it wants to reward you for purchasing one of them. To do that, they have launched a new trade in program called “HTC Trade Up,” which can land you up to $300 depending on what your old phone is.

It works a lot like trade-in programs from Verizon or Samsung, in that HTC wants you to buy one of their new phones and will then make an offer on your old phone. For example, if I were to buy an HTC One X or Rezound and trade in my Verizon Galaxy S3 with 32GB of storage, they would send me $290. That’s not a bad deal, right?

Cheers Rashad!

  • LOL (my R2D2) they have the “A957” in at $40, but if i pick the “A957 Droid 2” its only $20 and if i go down and pick the “DROID 2” option its $15….

  • $45 for a Droid X2! Haha.. that’s a good laugh!

  • AnGeLFaCe777

Good move HTC! Verizon needs to raise their prices for your old device. We have to buy full retail price for the new devices if we do not want to loose our data.

  • Spider210

$15 for droid x, right I can atleast get $50-75 local heck verizon will give $29

  • Kheir Francis

I would trade my rezound in for that new HTC 5 inch, but what i want more than anything is to have another G1with the slide up screen or mytouch 4G or 4G slide phone being made by HTC again. I dont know why they sold it to LG and then Hauwei

  • steve myers

Yep my thunderbolt was nothing but issues.

  • Going from a S3 to a Rezound and all u get for the S3 is 290 not even 300! That sounds like a terrible deal to me.

  • Johna w

this is a ripoff. Just use craigslist or ebay instead.

    • AnGeLFaCe777

How much will you get for the original Razr on Ebay or craigslist?

      • John Wildman

Seen anywhere from $150 to $250 depending on condition

        • AnGeLFaCe777

          it is not that bad.

  • Tex

And the OG comes in at…..$0.00 !

  • Jason

Will they buy back my POS Thunderbolt so I can get a phone from a legit manufacturer? I hate you HTC. Can you Sense my frustration?

  • Thank you for your phone you spent either 700 to buy off contract. Here, Have 40 dollars.

  • Radgatt

    better than nothing i suppose

  • Detonation

Is anyone actually surprised the values are much less than ebay or craiglist? You’re paying for the convenience of not having to manually sell it yourself. HTC has to make money somehow, so of course they won’t offer them at market value.

    • K. Nelson

They’re supposed to entice you to buy a new phone from them. This doesn’t do that at all. And when a friend in the know tells another friend how they just got ripped off for $150 by using this so-called “service”; they’re not going to be very happy.

  • 2001400ex

Anyone else notice this is just the same format as the other websites that purchase your phone?

  • What phone is worth the 300 bucks?

  • Anyone else see the Thunderbolt 2 on there?

  • Damn 0 for my Razr maxx. That dont seem right

    • Sobr0801

you can get around 350 or more on ebay.

      • Or 260 ebay instant offer. I never pay these trade in services any mind. I will go out buy the phone i want at retail the sale my other one. Its like cars no matter what you will not get what ya paid for it back..lol

    • Detonation

Apparently Moto also had a Razr Maxx fliphone back in the day. You want to select the Droid Razr Maxx, which will get you $150

      • Oh now that makes sense at first i was WTF!!!

  • Quit complaining you can’t expect a manufacturer to give you top dollar on your phones to trade in, hell even retailers rip you off and then mark it up. So relax just give retailers/manufacturers the finger and sell it online. You will get a lot more for it anyways.

    • K. Nelson

The point was to entice you into buying one of their phones. If you can sell it for FAR more yourself on eBay, then why would you even bother taking them up on the offer? Once you sell it on eBay you’re no longer locked into an HTC phone. It’s not a good deal.

      • Ummm isn’t that sort of mirroring what I just said.

  • Chris Malkiewicz

“Sweet… I am able to trade my Galaxy Nexus for a Thunderbolt”… Said no one EVER!!

  • NemaCystX

It should be noted these “trade” offers aren’t really the company buying back your old device, its out sourced to other third parties so they can refurb and sell. Ever wonder where that refurb or used games come from on eBay? look no further

I mean look at the Samsung trade-in program, looks pretty identical and offers the same amounts

  • 315 for galaxy SIII vzw? thats more than what I paid for mine!

    • Detonation

after it was subsidized with a 2 year contract…

  • DonDemon

    Droid Bionic = $85.00 WTF??
A quick look on Ebay shows between $130-173 used. My Bionic is in perfect condition so I would expect to be in the higher price bracket.
HTC is not really helping me out when purchasing a HTC phone. Instead they are bending me over and raping me. Very sad.

  • Adam92Wilkins

Screw HTC. If you wanna trade up just sell on something like Swappa… you can get a lot more and no stupid selling fees. Best part? its just phones/tablets.

  • Bewara2009

Just call VRZ to see how much they would buy my reZound and they said $25.00, F**k Outta here!

  • coolsilver

$150 for a Thunderbolt 2? Rezound is listed separate….. WUT??

  • coolsilver

Nah I don’t want your dirty money HTC. Not to mention I do have a few phones sitting around that probably aren’t worth anything.

  • Chris Hollenbeck

    Thunderbolt = $40?
    Yeah, that’s about right.

  • Silver Veloz

    Motorola Droid Bionic – $85.00

  • Braves

$290 for an unlocked Galaxy S3 which costed like $590 2 months back?
iPhone 4 sells for more than $200 after 2 full years, one of the reasons why iPhone users keep buying iPhones….

    • Butters619

And an unlocked SGS3 sells for more than $290 if you go anywhere besides a trade in site.

    • Diablo81588

Yup. Sold my girls 4S for 450 on Ebay a couple months ago. It’s insane how they hold their value.

      • They arent exactly “holding there value” people are just STAYING STUPID! lol

    • HTC will only give you $135 for a VZW iPhone4. Sadly still more then they will give you for a Galaxy Nexus.

  • Butters619

If they release a Note competitor with more than 1GB of RAM and more than a 2300 mAH battery, I will trade up my One X.

Edit: WTF!!!! They only offer $175 for a perfect condition One X. Suck it HTC.

    • Jaysen Barber

      and $135 for a EVO 4g LTE…

      • Diablo81588

        • Noel

I will rather sell it myself, donate it or give it to a friend. I love HTC but I think they are SPEC MISERS…a term I recently coined for them. Until they prove me/us wrong by matching Samsung spec for spec when it comes to marquee devices…I will refer to them as such. In my view they will continue chasing Samsung if they don’t go toe to toe with them spec wise. For instance a well built and lovely device like the One X should match or out sell the GS3 but for omissions (SD card slot, replaceable battery and lack of availability on multiple carriers). Therefore i STRONGLY URGE HTC to address these omissions on the upcoming One X+ or another marquee device that will be made available on all major carriers.

  • jb

$40 for a working Thunderbolt? Even HTC doesn’t want my crappy phone! After a piss poor first try with HTC (Thunderbolt), I wouldn’t consider another HTC phone anyway

    • Tom

Right there with you… This Thunderbolt is the last HTC phone I will own.

      • fixxmyhead

but the “build quality” and “premium materials” they use on the phones. surely thats gotta make u want another one right?

    • coolsilver

Gazelle shows $50 in good condition. Since the Kickstand scratches so easy probably all mine is worth.

    • KleenDroid

I had a good experience with my Thunderbolt and my wife is still using it.

I wasn’t concerned about what I could sell it for a year and a half later. Of course you could do better on eBay.

HTC makes great phones and they leak updates early for the development community.

      • AnGeLFaCe777

The thunderbolt was not a bad device for that time. LTE was new and powerful and HTC do not put big batteries in their devices that is a bad combination lol. Lets see what HTC has for their fans. I am sticking with Motorola and Sony for now unless HTC and Samsung get their up together for real this time. No small batteries, no plastic and good UI like Google and Motorola 🙂

      • AnGeLFaCe777

By the way did your wife check the Droid M? That is a sexy device for male and female. I was thinking of getting it but the display is not HD. The display still gorgeous though do not get me wrong i just want the HD one.

  • Already checked for 90% of the users on this site: $120 for the vzw Galaxy Nexus.

    No thanks…I think I’ll keep it 🙂

    • duoexo

      $150 for my Rezound 🙁

      • Bewara2009

They Said $25 for mines WTH

        • AnGeLFaCe777

it can not be 25 , the rezound is not that old.

    • Did you put that there was damage? For a fully functional VZW Galaxy Nexus it told me $170

      • Nevermind, didn’t realize there was a CDMA specific one. Damn, $50 difference from the gsm version. Even the sprint version will net you $135.

    • HueThree

      $170 for GSM Nexus

  • Wonder if this will work in the UK.

  • Fighter

40 bucks for my Thunderbolt? They will always treat us like $h!t

    • sdny8

Hell that’s at least double what I’d give you

    • 2001400ex

      Yup same I got. Lame.

    • Bitch please. $0 for my Eris.

      Not that I expected anything.

      • Stephen Morrison

“I’ll give you nothing for your phone. Deal?”

        • I’m surprised I wouldn’t have to pay them to take my Eris.

    • mike

Did you see the listing for “Thunderbolt 2”? I wonder what that is. Its worth $150 trade in

      • AnGeLFaCe777

keep dreaming ! that device cost now like 70 dollars.

      • Daistaar

Thunderbolt 2 is the HTC Rezound.

    • Jeremy Gentry

thats the first thing i looked up! cmon’ 40 bucks! i’ll sell my Tbolt on swappa and get like $150!!! htc sells us a crappy phone and then wants us to “trade-up” why so we can never see jelly bean? i can crap out 40 dollars in under 2 hours at my job, i might as well just hand them my phone for free

    • Yep, checked the same just for the F of it. My wife is currently using it, no problems (rooted and rom’d of course), but even without that, it’s mint and would make a good media player for wifi. Who uses these trade in services?

    • PhillipCun

This is the worst phone EVER

    • First thing I thought too!
