Google Updates Nexus 7 Shipping Situation

We know that many of you have grown a bit frustrating having not yet received your Nexus 7 orders, even though you pre-ordered as early as during the Google I/O keynote. To help clarify the situation, Google has updated their shipping status info page with greater details.

According to this note, they have shipped all standalone Nexus 7 8GB orders (if placed before July 13). By the end of the day on July 19, they will have shipped all standalone Nexus 7 16GB orders that were placed through July 11 and are upgrading those to overnight shipping. If you placed your order after July 11, your 16GB Nexus 7 will ship by the end of next week with overnight shipping. If you ordered your Nexus 7 with a case, charger or Nexus Q, your tablet will ship this week, but it may be ahead of the rest of your order.

The full statement is below.

An update on Nexus 7 pre-order shipping status

We’ve had incredible demand for our new Nexus 7 tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. When your device ships you will receive a notification from Google Play with a shipping tracking number. We will have all orders placed through July 13 processed and shipped soon. Orders placed after July 13 will ship according to the quoted timeframe when you purchased and we will update you with a tracking number when we’ve shipped. Thanks for your patience.

Below are more specific details by country for devices ordered through July 13. If the below information is not true for you, and you ordered on or before July 13, please reach out to our support team so we can investigate.

  • In the US: We’ve shipped all standalone Nexus 7 8GB orders (e.g.: those without a case, charger or Nexus Q). By the end of day on July 19 (PDT), we will have shipped all standalone Nexus 7 16GB orders placed through July 11 (PDT), and upgraded these orders to overnight shipping. We will process the remaining standalone Nexus 7 16GB orders by the end of next week with overnight shipping.
If you ordered your tablet with a case, charger or Nexus Q, your Nexus 7 will ship this week with overnight shipping, in some cases ahead of the rest of your order. But don’t worry, the rest of your order will be on its way soon.
  • In Canada: We’ve shipped all Nexus 7 8GB orders. We are in the process of shipping Nexus 7 16GB orders and will ship them in 1-2 weeks.
  • In the UK: All Nexus 7 8GB orders will ship by July 20 (BST). All Nexus 7 16GB orders placed through June 30 (BST), will ship by July 20 (BST). The remaining Nexus 7 16GB orders will ship next week.
  • In Australia: All Nexus 7 8GB and Nexus 7 16GB orders will be fulfilled by the end of day on July 19 (AEST) and will arrive in 3-5 days.

Cheers Bill and Jason!

  • Happy Alan

I picked up a Nexus 16 GB today 7/22 at Staples. They said they received overnight ship of 5 today. These were not pre-ordered. I don’t get it. I had ordered from google play on 7/16 but could not get any estimate of when it would ship. I of course canceled my google play order. Hurray, no shipping cost.

  • mmmmattd

Preordered a 16gb on July 11th with no accessories and I’ve heard nothing since. I thought I made the cutoff but now it’s early AM on July 20th so I guess not. So much for getting before the weekend…

  • Kendall Hunter

What a bunch of WATB complainers.

  • Happy man

Cancelled mine, ordered 28th June no message or update from google,I wanted one but not prepared to be treated with comtempt

  • 7/8 – Ordered 16GB one with no accessories. Got the shipping email at 4AM and it’s on the vehicle for delivery now.

  • William_Morris

Picked one up at Sam’s Club tonight.

  • Brett Silverman

Pre-ordered mine two weeks ago. When I didn’t get a shipping confirmation from Google I went out and purchased one at Staples. I then tried to cancel my order with Google and got this response… At this point it is no longer possible to cancel this order. Your order is processed shortly after your purchase is complete. Our expedited order fulfillment process ensures that packages are delivered quickly, which also means that there is a very short window of time to cancel an order prior to our shipping provider moving forward with delivery. I still have not received a shipping confirmation. This is total BS!!!

    • I got the same response and still haven’t received a shipping notification. Thinking about just refusing delivery and not getting one at all

  • Jamal Stephenson

Just came from staples they will be able to sell them on Friday 8AM first come first serve. If I don’t receive my nexus by Friday then I’m heading there. Save my self 20 bucks too

  • they dont come standard with chargers? LOL

  • Moeyknight

It definitely sucks for people that pre-ordered and didn’t get it yet. That said, I bit the bullet and ordered one last night and it shipped this morning. So hopefully they’ve figured out their problems and are taking actions.

  • Dont worry guy OP always delivars!!!1

  • currentsupply

If this is going to be your first Nexusj Device I would be very excited about this purchase. If you’re already running Jelly Bean on your GNex, it’s basically the same thing with a larger screen.

  • samedayessaym

Nice post! Can’t wait for the next one. Keep stuff like this coming.

  • haackers

Canada gets screwed again! It seems like this is a US release and not a couple of countries. Google messed up big time.

  • Well just got my tracking number and apparently I’ve been upgraded to over night shipping whoo hooo

  • angermeans

This is turning into a nightmare for Google. They should have stated this a week ago so people would know what is going on. I luckily ordered mine as 8gb without a case so I got mine today (just so happens I a, writing this, my first Droid Life post, on it now.

  • Angus

Preordered an 8GB model 07/04, shipped on 07/17. Estimated delivery

Now I’m kicking myself for paying $20 for “two day” shipping that takes
more than twice that long, when I could potentially have gone to a
brick-and-mortar store and saved myself the trouble.

  • Frank

Just picked up a 16g at staples. I live in a rural small town too.

  • tCub

Ordered 2 8GB models. One on Saturday, one on Sunday. Got them both today and one was upgraded to overnight. Kudos to UPS and Google for getting BOTH to me so fast!!! Amazing!!!

    • Good for you. UPS gave me the run-around today. There’s always tomorrow.

  • super sad

I ordered mine thy day they went up for sale. Received it today. Hardware is defective (screen is separating from the casing on the left side). TOTAL BUMMER.

Lord knows when I’ll get to actually use the thing for the first time. When all is said and done, I’m betting on a solid month from now, at least.

    • super sad

Now it’ll be a race to see what happens first for me: a new Nexus 7 comes or my crappy galaxy tab 10.1 finally gets ICS.

  • Bill

I got mine today! 16 GB version. Ordered on the June 27th. Already rooted it

  • alberto aparicio

If anyone is in the McAllen, TX area, there are some in stock at Sam’s Club. I walked in a bought myself a 16 GB for $242, I will be staying up late today!

  • Shane Hollin

I preordered on June 28th and received mine today July 17th. I ordered the 16 gig and it came pre-loaded with my google account. The wait time definitely sucks. I could not wait for mine so I bought an additional one as soon as gamestop had them available July 13 without a pre-order. Purchasing through a retailer is better because you avoid the shipping and you receive the $25 Google Play store credit as well. I have heard many of the retail stores are sold out now and will not be receiving more shipments until August. You should be able place orders through retailers.

After using the device for few days now it is well worth the price. It is very easy to use and setup. Way to go Google on making such an excellent and affordable device.

  • [rant]
Good to know, but Google should have emailed this, with to everyone that pre-ordered through the Play store. They have our email addresses. I do not appreciate Google’s passive interaction with its customers. We deserve timely, and helpful, information. I’ve spent far less money on products and received better communication and customer service than this.

UPS got my hopes up today, but no shipment. My tracking page has been updated to show tomorrow is my delivery day. We’ll see. UPS seriously toyed with my emotions today. I’m taking notes for my Nexus 7 First Impressions blog piece — which is all, sadly, still in draft. 🙁

  • Bill Gates

Ordered July 8th, came in today. suckers!

  • Jim

I ordered my unit and a case on June 27. I get mine after someone on July 12 orders the unit only? Who came up with that priority scheme?

    • ztw1217

since you order before the July 11, you whirlpool get your nexus 7 (alone) either Friday or early next week. Your case with ship the end of next week. Just got off the phone with google supervisor and I had the same order as you

  • ztw1217

just got off the phone with the google supervisor and she said the 16 gb will ship Thursday and you will have it either Friday orrrrr Monday. Original the first guy told me the end of next week. So as long as you preorder before the 11th you’ll have it Friday or the first of next week! FINALLY… And she said they have gotten a lot of negative feed back on the whole “gamestop gets it before play store preorders” and said next time it won’t happen

  • alpine2g

Mine came today! Unlocked and rooted in 5 mins lol.

  • Gregg

This boned me. Hard. I pre ordered as a Bday gift for the girlfriend. Her birthday is tomorrow. I wind up going to two different Staples (first one showed they had it in stock but they didn’t) and picked up one retail. 20 bucks cheaper too! Now I must wrestle with keeping the pre order unit for myself, sending it back, or throwing up on the bay that is E.

  • Jbirdus

Wrong. I’m in the US and I placed my 8gb order (standalone Nexus 7, no charger, case or Q) on July 5th and I’ve received no shipping notification and no CC charges. I call BS.

  • ddevito

got mine. 4.1.1 installed, unlocked, rooted and now wirelessly tethered to my GNex.

  • Anthony_Armando

i use to think that a pre-order number meant something, then i took an arrow to the knee.

    • TimInAtl

I hear you. I won’t say Google cut all of the pre-order faithful off at the knees. The ankles, maybe, but not the knees.

This was a complete and utter fail on Google’s part. Not only in the haphazard way the shipping has/hasn’t occurred but in the ‘cone of silence’ Google’s been in by keeping those of us who ordered early totally in the dark. Oh yes, we are owed an apology. Without question I have learned my lesson and can say that this is the first and last preorder I do with Google, or anyone else. And no one at Google will pay the price for this cluster, only those of us who were suckered into pre-ordering. Wish I could have cancelled my order. The Kindle Fire continues to serve me just fine once I take a good look at the situation and having my $290 back would be cool as well. Then there is eBay….

  • napppppppz

Ordered mine on July 1st and just got conformation via ups it was delivered, only problem I’m out of town for a few more days 🙁

    • Gary Oak

Don’t worry I’ll go pick it up for you..

      • napppppppz

Well had one of my friends who is a big android guy pick it up so it wasn’t just sitting outside and just got a msg from him saying he unlocked the bootloader and rooted it for me and some other small things…

  • john monsalve

received mine today!!! both an 8gb and a 16gb!!

  • Fuzz427

I had been checking at a few Gamestop stores since last Thursday to no avail. I checked at Staples on Monday at noon time and was able to pick one up at 3:30pm when they had put out their order. 16 gb model at 249.00 plus tax.
I have a question that I would like to ask if possible, how long is the password field for WIFI on the Nexus 7, what is the maximum number of characters I can enter. I use WPA2 PSK on my home network with a long password. I couldn’t set my galaxy nexus phone up on my network under WIFI because the maximum # of characters in the password field was only 32. Thanks in advance for any info you might provide. What is the best way to learn how to use CWM and learn about unlocking my bootloader?

  • Gary Oak

Finally just received this email updating me.. It’s about time.

  • Gary Oak

Hey Google, give me $100 credit on the Play store and we’ll forget the whole thing ever happened…

  • My Nexus 16GB was sitting on the ground when I got home from work today at a little after 5:00pm. It’s charging now. Cheers!

  • Oscar De La Rosa

Watch them send another email in the morning saying “sorry we fell asleep and forgot to ship all the overnighters we’ll try again tomorrow”

  • Oscar De La Rosa

does this mean that if i ordered july6 that i should get it tomorrow?

    • Not necessarily, but it means you WILL MOST LIKELY get it by Friday. I ordered July 7th and still no word of conformation yet. But there’s hope that we both might get it tomorrow if Google ships them today. Google sends out emails of shipping at 2 AM (EST), so you may have a surprise at your door tomorrow!!!

      • Oscar De La Rosa

        I sure hope so!

  • anezarati

i dont see why everyone is upset. Google is just learning from the masters of product releases – Apple.

  • Kevin Olson

I walked into my local staples yesterday and asked if they had any. 5 minutes later I was walking out with my shiny new 16gb nexus 7. I feel for you guys who preordered day one an at still waiting. Once yo get it, you won’t be dissapointed.

    • capecodcarl

I did the same thing. I just called up a local Staples and asked if they had any and they said they hadn’t put them out on display yet, but they had 5 of them in stock if I wanted to swing by and pick one up. I even waited until after work and had no problem buying one. In fact, my only problem is I’m not even sure I like it. It’s too awkward to hold while lying down in bed trying to read a book without touching the screen. There’s just no good way to hold it. 🙁

  • TheDrunkenClam

Does the Nexus 7 have the stock browser (NOT Chrome) on it? Some of us still care about flash . . I know adobe doesn’t officially support flash anymore, but it clearly still works. And let’s not forget That the stock browser was featured on that leaked build from I/o.

    • It doesn’t officially, but you can install another browser like Firefox, Dolphin HD etc and download flash as well and it should work.

      • TheDrunkenClam

What a step backwards for android… for example, I just went to GameSpot.com. usi g chrome and where there are videos, is simply an empty space saying g you need flash… now I have heard all the talk that HTML is the future, I get it. (And frankly it sounds like something apple fans would say).. butmany of my ffavorite sites use flash content, and not including the stock browser is stupid. I’ve always used bug less beast on my gnex, but Pete took out the stock browser on his jellybean builds, so I’ve had to go with a different ROM. So disappointing.

        • TheDrunkenClam

          HTML5 ******

    • Kevin Olson

The only stock browser on the n7 is chrome.

    • Tyler Chappell

Though if I am not mistaken I think you can install “Browser” separately. If not, just use Dolphin Browser if you really need flash, it does pretty good.

    • Shane Hollin

The Nexus 7 comes with Ice cream sandwich which runs flash. After a few moments of ICS it will ask you to upgrade to Jelly Bean which is better and supports Google Now. However flash is not supported in Jelly Bean, HTML5 will be.

      • Shane Hollin

You can install additional browsers like dolphin or opera. The 7 comes with chrome.

  • Craig

I’m as happy as can be. Mine arrived today – ordered June 27.

  • Lauren

I’m happy that Google is finally communicating whats up. I’ve been watching my gmail like a hawk to see when this thing will ship. While I’m not too happy on how Google handled this whole situation I’m not going to complain about the free overnight shipping.

    • Anthony_Armando

i feel that an upgrade to one day shipping is a joke and insulting. with amazon if i want to change my two day shipping to one day shipping it is only another $4. whoop-de-doo, google.

i want google to give the loyalists that pre-ordered directly from google something exclusive. maybe a free exclusive case of some sort.

      • Gary Oak

      • TimInAtl

“I pre-ordered a Nexus 7 from Google and all I got was this lousy case…”

  • MikeG

Pre-ordered on 6/27 and no shipping yet. I waited on hold for 35 minutes last night to be able to talk to “Alex”, she told me that mine should ship today. Her reasoning for it not shipping earlier is because I ordered a case also and that added an extra step to the process. We’ll see what happens today with shipping……I can only hope at this point………….

***** Update***** I just got an Email from Google stating what this article is saying. All will be shipped by the 19th and free upgrade to overnight shipping…..let’s hope it’s right this time.

  • Red Gryphon

got the following email on 2 different email account.

We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had
incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as
possible. If you placed your order by July 11, it will ship this week
and we’ve upgraded to overnight shipping so it arrives sooner. Orders
placed after July 11, will ship next week with overnight shipping.

If you’d like more detailed information on device shipments, please reference our online Help Center http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2667319

Thanks for your patience. Your Nexus 7 will be on its way soon.

    The Google Play Team

© 2012 Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043

You have received this mandatory email service announcement to update you on your Nexus 7 product pre-order.

  • EC8CH

Works for me… thanks for the update Google.

Remember people this is after all an Asus tablet, and while they do some things amazingly well, we should all know by now they do tablet launches amazingly bad.

  • Such a useless company and it seems like us Canadians are getting screwed the most when it comes to the 16GB model. Good to see that 20 dollars in shipping was a fee to be screwed. Thanks Google.

First and last order from these morons and I will make sure nobody I know ever orders directly from them.

  • Got my 16GB Nexus 7 today! JELLY BEAN!!!!

  • Why do Canadians have to wait 1-2 weeks? WTF this is messed up! Why couldn’t they have just shipped them all at one time! Google overnight shipping isnt going to make me any happier.

  • Jason

Aus orders fullfilled by tomorrow, and will still take 3-5 days for delivery! That’s harsh since the US orders are being upgraded to overnight delivery.
I should have just waited until next week to walk into a shop and by it instead of ordering on the day it was announced!

  • paul_cus

Hope everyone gets it really soon, it’s awesome. It’s weird that the 8GB versions went out already, but the 16GB versions are dragging.

  • Got mine this morning!

  • thefullritz

Got mine in my hands…:-) 🙂

  • jsz3us

Why not send this update.out in an E-mail to everyone the pre-ordered?? DL ftw!

    • They did- check your e-mail, I just got mine.

      • jsz3us

        No E-mail yet.

      • I haven’t received any such email.

The next scandal will be the order in which Google delivers the update emails.

        • EC8CH

          • Hadoukyuu

Just got the e-mail, ordered 6/27.

  • willie

    i order mine on
Jun 30 and got mine today. 🙂

  • Bionic

Got mine at 8am this morning. They must have heard all my bitching and watned to get it to me as early as possible today, LOL.

    • EvanTheGamer

      Yep, that’s surely it.

    • Tyler Chappell

lucky you! I just got my email about 10minutes ago. But I also had ordered the cover with my 16GB N7

  • Honestly I’m just happy to finally hear from Google… I’ve been waiting- first patiently, then impatiently, for any type of communication or confirmation and this answers some of my questions. It does hurt to be lied to that all orders would have shipped by Wednesday (third business day after the 13th), But again, it’s just nice to finally get some information. Hey, if it ships 1 day later and with overnight shipping, I’ll be getting it the same day as I would have anyways. We’re still all also getting these before in-stock orders and retailers(non pre-order), so be happy. Enjoy your Nexus 7s as I will mine.

  • migamix

going to stop at a gamestop , i know ill get it faster without pre ordering, so much for the wife’s birthday prez, bet i could order stuff from think geek AND amazon tonight and they will get here faster… google, step it up on more notch, remove and refund ALL shipping charges, but overnight all items anyway

  • C. Legg

Can’t wait for my Nexus 7, a couple more days won’t kill me. Everybody acts like they are gonna die if they don’t have this in their hands by today. Whoosaw!! Just be glad you’re getting one because they are all gonna be sold out in the next few days if they aren’t already.

    • I was super angry at first and felt like the others, but honestly just getting this information has calmed my nerves and I’m OK waiting an extra couple days. It’s not the end of the world and is still mid-July as originally promised.

      • C. Legg

My thoughts exactly. To me, I haven’t really been lied to or anything. Yeah I would have liked to have had it earlier but it is what it is and they are doing all they can to get it here as soon as possible.

      • JD Atlanta

Exactly right. Google should have been making honest & detailed posts like this one for the last two weeks. Even if they can’t give a firm answer, it would be better than silence & letting people worry and guess.

  • jjrudey

How about the ones that showed up with dead pixels? I’d like them to answer me that

    • David

Mine showed up with a dead pixel as well. Once I got a hold of a rep he said I would get a brand new replacement asap. Two days at most. Give them a call.

      • how did you get ahold of a rep. I’ve called 6 times today!!! 2 times I waited over an hour on the phone and never spoke to anyone.

  • At least they are attempting to communicate!
A step in the right direction.
*crosses fingers* in hopes of my N7 actually shipping on Friday!

  • Still doesn’t cover the fact that they are shipping these willy nilly based on some kind of “name drawn out of the hat” shipping system…

    • William Warwick II

      No kidding.

On a side note, I’m so glad I resisted the urge and didn’t add the case to my preorder. I really feel for those poor sops that did.

      • Jwhap

like me……lol. I ordered right after the announcement……still no tablet…..

        • Lol. I ordered one from Staples and one from Office Depot, thinking I’d just wait until one arrived and cancel the other order. They both arrived today.

          • Gary Oak

            Give me one.

        • ztw1217

you will get the tablet Friday or Monday and the case will be sent the end of next week. I did the same thing as you (nexus plus case)

    • Gary Oak

Yeah what the hell is with that. So much for first-in first-out….

  • duoexo

“By the end of day on July 19 (PDT), we will have shipped all standalone Nexus 7 16GB orders placed through July 11”
I fall in this category, hopefully if they ship soon that they don’t deliver on Monday cus i have a concert to attend.

    • willie

I put a note one the door with the tracking number my name and said leave it in the door and singed it and it was left there for me when I got home from work

  • anyone noticed that now you can save maps on google maps, but you can not use them on wifi tablets for navigation ,even though you have gps on the tablet

    • EvanTheGamer

Use a Tether app. Tried it with my G-Nex and Nexus 7 and it worked surprisingly well for being free.

      • duoexo

One of the great things about having Unlimited Date.

        • EvanTheGamer

  • Nice to finally hear from The Goog! I ordered on the 2nd of July and it was going to ship Friday (the 13th) but the card got rejected so I’ve been waiting for it to ship since I guess I got moved to the back of the line. Still, nice to know that it’ll at least be shipped by the 19th!

    • Andrew Wegand

I had this same issue and was curious as to where we apply in the the pre-order launch now before the 19th because we pre-ordered before the 11th or after the 19th because we updated card status after the 11th?

  • kevinc

This is complete BS. I placed an order the day they were available, on June 27th, and still have received no shipping notification. Furthermore, today was supposed to be the day EVERY preorder would be shipped by, and now it’s pushed to the 19th? I could’ve just ordered it from GameStop and had it in my hands already, for 20 bucks cheaper since no shipping.

    • duoexo

They’re trying to make up with over night shipping. which i have no problem with.

      • You paid for shipping, so an upgrade is the least they could do. Staples and Office Depot both had free shipping, and have already shipped and arrived.

    • I completely agree… Upgrading us all to overnight shipping isn’t doing much of anything. I bet on Thursday, they’ll release another update saying that they will be shipped out in another 3 days, and we’ll never get our Nexus 7s

      • kevinc

yep exactly. how can we have faith the 19th is the day when they said the exact same thing last week about the 17th? that’s not how you handle customer service. don’t come out with these definite dates if they can’t be met.

    • William Warwick II

This is such an utter fail by Google that I am surprised DL has taken so long to say anything about it. If it was the “Nexus 7 brought to you by Verizon”, DL would be leading the charge.

      • They are relaying information as soon as they get it. They posted this thread before I even received my e-mail from Google. I don’t honestly know what you are complaining about. Unless you mean they are not bitching out Google.. Then I somewhat agree. But be happy that the information is unbiased.

        • William Warwick II

Not complaining at all. Merely stating that DL and pretty much all android/tech blogs in my opinion, have not called Google to task for the shoddy launch of their flagship tablet

    • Anthony_Armando

agree. i pre-ordered within an hour or two after the announce (was asleep!) and still have not received my shipment notification. i am incredibly disappointed with google seeing as people are walking into gamestop/staples and walking out with a N7 while mine is yet to even ship.

i am not going to pre-order anything from google until they have had a couple successful launches under their belt. unfortunately, i am guessing many other people will do the same thing and when magical release comes around everyone will pre-order from them and it will be a complete cluster… again…

    • Manny

I agree. I ordered it from the Play Store on the 13th and got it on the 17th. I’m not complaining about getting a fast delivery, but I also don’t think it’s fair that people who bought it weeks before me are not getting theirs yet. For future Nexii purchases, I don’t think I’ll be using the Play Store anymore.

      • Mack

Agreed. I walked out of staples this morning with a 16gb nexus 7 but I’m surprised that everyone who pre-ordered didn’t get theirs before me.
