Verizon Lights Up 4G LTE in 21+ New Markets on October 21

Verizon powered on 26 new 4G LTE markets on September 15, yet are back again to announce the next wave that are expected to go live on October 21.  The list is just starting to trickle out, but we are hearing that 21 spots are expected to see the LTE love.  As always, we will do our best to update the list below as we see them get the nod…

New cities:

  • Sioux City, IA
  • South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, and Goshen, IN
  • Bloomington, Bedford, Evansville, and Terre Haute, IN
  • Green Bay, WI
  • Buffalo/Niagra, NY
  • Birmingham, AL
  • Albuquerque, NM
  • Sante Fe, NM
  • Fort Myers, FL
  • Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News and Richmond, VA

  • San Diego and Los Angeles, CA

Cheers Tony!

  • Any update on Oceanside, CA? Wow the San Diego area is being built so slowly! What a debacle.

  • Chad

4G is live in Ft Myers as of this morning

  • Wingrant

Many parts of Richmond are showing 4 G as of October 1.  Cell site behind WCVE transmitter came up Friday as 4G.  Bon Air, Midlothian, most of downtown are solid 4 G signals now, but speeds vary greatly.  Looks like some work yet to be done, but hopefully kinks will be worked out by October 20, the official launch date.

  • Linda

Just got a call from my husband who works in downtown Richmond, VA.  He’s had 4g on his Mifi for over an hour now.  Didn’t have it yesterday.  Yay!

  • Bajabug58

Right now, Verizon’s 4G LTE run good speed in Oceanside,CA.
Look like Verizon just started it first time today.
Pretty blaze speed like 36 mbps download and 8mbps upload. No kidding.

    • Still no 4G LTE in Oceanside. they must have been testing it or you caught a signal from south of the 78. No 4G LTE in 92056, 92057, 92058, 92055 and most of 92054 in Oceanside. There isnt anything north of the 78 for Oceanside or Vista or Fallbrook or Camp Pendleton. Verizon is really messing up the San Diego roll out.

  • Cliffw1975

Its about time Richmond Va got 4gLTE.  I see it from time to time on my phone now.  Turn it on full time.

  • Asmcnair

Evansville, Indiana Represent!! Cant wait to use my Bionic on LTE!

  • Se7en

    SAN DIEGO!!!!!

chargers got that lighting this year and now my Bionic is charged up to!

    • I live in san diego and there was already some expanded coverage a couple months ago.  I was getting 4g on the drive from San Diego to Escondido

  • yeeeeeeeeeah

Just an FYI that it’s spelled Niagara.

  • Wunderwaffe

Oh yeah!!!!! Expanding coverage for Los Angeles.

  • How about expanding Miami, FL!!

  • Bionic

Woohoo!  South bend, indiana!!  Now I can use my bionic to its full potential.

  • Give Asheville, NC some love please!

  • Anonymous

  • LionStone

Awright! FourGee for the familia in New Mexico! Didn’t think NM would get it for a while…

  • Schnaj27

4G has been going strong, around Lambeau Field, in Green Bay since the end of the August.  Can’t believe that it would take until October 20th for an official announcement

    • Bionic

Same here for Notre Dame.  I dont get signal at my house but hopefully that changes.  Its supposed to be a 25mile radius.

  • Jigga_Z

Notice they’re adding Buffalo/Niagra, NY, which isn’t even indicated with a star on the map. VZW is further then they planned!

  • One Rad Dude

I’m 100% sure no one in Central AR will be in for October 21 launch, since it appears that they’re just starting to install LTE antennas. Maybe Nov or Dec.

  • Anonymous

still no VA love.  guess we’re commonly unwealthy.

  • Cmorty72

STILL no love for the Hampton Roads area of VA.

  • William Clark

I expect to see Lexington, KY on this list. It has been rumored for October for months now. Plus I did see 4G active on my friends Thunderbolt for a brief period of 10minutes on a Sunday evening a few weeks ago.

  • Anonymous

When will they expand to my village in Zimbabwe by the river?

  • Finally, something worthwhile in Fort Myers!

  • Walter Sobchak

Still nothing in Rhode Island.  But Worcester gets it first.  Really?  Weak.

  • Jason Purp

Still no Putnam County, NY? Alright, eff you too.

  • Davros

WOO HOO! We’ll finally be able to check out 4G in South Bend Indiana 🙂 It must be fate with the Vigor coming out 😉

  • Finally…Buffalo! Oh and it’s Niagara…you forgot an “a”

    • Fucco

The delay was becauase of the “A” .  We have no 4G in buffalo because it interferes with canadas analog tv. Canada shut down their analog tv sept 1.  Therefore buffalo can finally get 4g!!!

  • Kierra

Loving all this east coast 4G love.

  • Strapharp

I have been getting 4G LTE in Colonial Heights VA all day. It is truly amazing. Also I went to three VZW stores and they all said LTE will go live in Richmond/Petersburg area on October 1st.

  • Anonymous

Good to see verizon continues to expand their lte network it seems like every month or so.

  • Anonymous

Sweet! I might be the only one here in southern Indiana. Surprised to see my city getting hooked up with 4g already.

    • Tony Allen

I’m down in North Vernon, was hoping maybe Seymour or Columbus would get it, dag nabbit 🙁

  • aventador779

Just a question, has San Diego CA 4G service already been “expanded”?

    • One Rad Dude

It has, but places like Oceanside, Encinitas, and Carlsbad did not get officially into the LTE zone, yet. The last expansion was for places, like Escondido.

  • Anonymous

    ,.. awesomee ..
I just got a $827.89 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HTV for only $251.92, they are both coming tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prîces at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.
    I use http://alturl.com/vuz3b

  • Booboolala2000

Fort Walton Beach Florida would be awesome..

  • Joshua Dudash

YESSS! I live just north of Fort Myers… maybe I’ll have a reason to pick up the bionic now!

  • DL3

I have 4G in downtown Kansas City Missouri on my new Bionic !

  • Anonymous

Ft. Meyers ok….bring it to Naples now…

  • Tony Allen

really? Bedford is getting LTE before Columbus? ugh..

  • fartbubbler

    southern Indiana in da HOUSE!!!!

  • Wunderwaffe

Verizon has told me that in october, Antelope Valley, CA is getting the LTE goodness

    • Lakerzz

Wow…just googled “when is antelope valley gonna get 4g”, and your comment on good ‘ol droid life popped up!! Man I can’t wait ’til we get it!! Knowing my luck though, it will not make it to quartz hill…

  • I hate that Sprint has to be a bunch of dicks and keep LTE from launching in Kansas City.  Just because their home office is in overland park doesn’t mean they have to punish everyone who doesnt want their crap service. GRRR  i want my Verizon 4G.  The towers are even up and ready to go, but OHH NOOO

    • Anonymous

Why!? Tell the media! WTF does Sprint have to do /w VZW not launching 4G LTE!?

  • Scottyb112

Kellex you better make sure Myrtle Beach, SC thru Georgetown, SC is on the list when you update it, or else… 80)

  • Evansville, YEAH! about time.

    • NerveBag

Agreed! I’m an E’villian who recently got a Bionic and can’t wait to see what browsing and streaming are like with an extra G. 😉

  • Telephoneteck

Come on North Oregon Coast, yeah probably going to be last on the list. Although I did install an additional T3 at one of there sites here a few months ago.

  • Hodgewdm

How about the capital of Iowa…Des Moines….Come on Verizon I just got the bionic and I want my 4G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Anonymous

Sucks that Sewer City is getting it before Des Moines.  I can understand why Iowa City would get it first being a college town.  But I don’t understand Sioux City over Des Moines.

      • babadush

lol did your auto correct make it say sewer or is that a nick name for Sioux City?

        • Anonymous

That is an accurate description of Sioux City in my opinion.

      • Why not?  The I-29 corridor buildout is mostly done and Sioux City is along that, between SF & Omaha.   You don’t have a clue about telecom infrastructure do you?   It’s not based on population as much as it is based on setting up the backbones.   Poor little Des Moines.

      • yeahboyy!!

The towers are ready in Des Moines and have been for a little while now. They are just waiting for the “OK” to turn it on. I know they have had 4G turned on at the state fair grounds since the State Fair started, but why they are activating 4G in every city EXCEPT Des Moines is beyond me! Council Bluffs, Iowa City, Quad Cities, and soon, Souix City will all have it before Des Moines, the most populated City in IA, gets it. IT makes absolutely no sense to me but all I know is we are “supposed” to have it by the end of the year!

    • guest

I agree that Des Moines needs the 4G.

  • Anonymous

Would love to get some 4G in my area before i get my 4G phone, i live on the border and so it will wreck my battery life im sure.

  • Anonymous

Kansas City lolcats are screaming “I can haz no LTE love.”

    • Nvious1

I hear ya loud and clear….I get pissed every time I see Witchita, KS on the map and not KC

  • Jmkelly66

Dyersburg, TN and Martin, TN is up and going.

    • Tferrell7368

Dyer is already up aren’t they? And how do they get it before Jackson? We’re twice the size with 3 times more industry?!?!

      • Tferrell7368

oops just read that again. D-burg is up…..but how they got it before J-Town. Can’t figure Big Red out…

  • Anonymous

    Rhode Island please…..

  • Frankydroid

Finally 4g in Evansville! Finally I can use my Tbolt to it’s full potential. Then a week later buy the galaxy nexus 🙂 this is a great wk for news

  • Dcj438

what kind of range does the the 4G actually reach? i live about 25 mi from terre haute…any chances of picking it up from that far?

  • Double D

Still waiting for Green Bay, WI. All NFL cities my ass, VZW. Even the temporary towers weren’t good enough to handle the amount of devices for the super bowl celebration at Lambeau.

  • up2bcrazy

To bad the areas they show as covered don’t actually have LTE in half of them from my travels. My entire area is blanketed according to the map. I realize it is not perfect blah blah blah, but it is nowhere even close where they show service versus where you actually get it. My office is displayed in solid dark red ( not lighter for extended LTE) and you dont get anything what so ever. Mind you a corp store is just down the road and they try to sales pitch it yet they don’t have it in there own dam building…..lol. Pretty sad if you ask me but it is what it is I guess

    • Anonymous

      Protip: The red represents 3G.

      • EC8CH

        why does 3G hate WV?

        • Anonymous

Crap!  That sucks!  I never noticed that before.  I sincerely hope you don’t live there.

        • Anonymous

          Blackout “Quiet zones”

  • Dan

Keep refreshing http://news.vzw.com for the cities as they are released.

  • Rich

Would love to see and extended coverage in Maryland for some 4g Love… All these damn luck phone holders get 4g service and free offerings for such… Like the NFL mobile… Which is f* up…  Telling me even though I have a 4g phone, and I only get 3g coverage, I have to pay to watch NFL mobile… F* That…

    • Ssplawson

      You mad?

    • John

Pretty much Frederick to Baltimore to DC has good coverage and I think they probably won’t add anymore in the next few months since most of the high density places are covered.

  • Guest

when is new hampshire going to get some love…

  • Illinipoke98

Whats the diff between the green stars and yeller dots?

    • EC8CH

I think the stars are markets with LTE already, whereas the yellow dots are markets where LTE is scheduled to be active.

forget that…. that doesn’t make any sense

    • Anonymous

Dots = Currently has 4G LTE coverage
Star = Expected to have 4G LTE by end of the year

      • EC8CH

That’s it, but its a bit outdated.  Fargo for one already has LTE.

  • Anonymous

Please be coming to my area finally…. that GREEN star over PA/MD is what i’m waiting for. Not only is that an area without Verizon data coverage, its within distance of my coverage area, from the looks of the map, the area in PA is going to have a ripple effect of coverage, so they don’t have to light up all the “beacons” lol

  • Anonymous

    Verizon should be worried!
ATT now has covered around 2% of America with LTE even though they don’t have a phone to support it yet!

    LOL  @ ATT
     Bravo VZW.

  • Corporate Verizon Wireless stores in Richmond, VA say 4G LTE is getting turned on on October 1st.

    • Anonymous

If that is true, might be time to trade in this DROID 3. Hopefully the coverage extends to further south in the Hampton Roads area.

      • TommyGrubz

I was told by a sales rep in VB a few months ago that Hampton Roads would get it sometime in October.

        • Anonymous

Here’s hoping. I asked about LTE sometime last month and was told there wasn’t any information.

        • Scott

I have it in VB as we speak.

      • Justin Glass

When I got my bionic a couple of weeks ago the, the verizon rep in Williamsburg said 4G would be getting turned on in October.  They’re testing in Yorktown and I’ve been seeing a lot of intermittent 4G popping up on my phone.

      • I get 4G LTE in a few spots around Richmond. Near the Diamond and a few spots downtown.

        • babadush

it seems the testing happens with colleges first. VCU has 4G. I haven’t seen it around the Diamond but I’ll take your word for it. I did get it around VCU but it made my battery die so freaking fast it was insane. I spent 15 min down by VCU and my battery went from 20% to 5% in 15 min. I hope it doesn’t always do that when it goes live. It’ll be very disappointing

    • Jbarb

I’ll believe it when I see it! LTE coming to Richmond is like all these cults giving the date of when the world will end. They throw a date out there and then that date passes and nothing! Next thing you know they throw out another date and another…………..

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

Richmond/Petersburg is on the list, and Bristol… as are the 4 cities in the Hampton Roads area.

They’re all listed on the network4g dot verizonwireless.com/#/coverage

The pressers aren’t all compiled yet, but Buffalo has also been announced.  Sorry for not including this link originally Kellex!

        • Anonymous

Awesome. Glad the 64 corridor is finally getting lit up. I’m down in Chesapeake pretty often so it’d be nice to have it there.

        • Bullet Tooth Tony

My bust on this too… network4g is part of the overall link… I meant to de-link it.  Should be network4g DOT verizonwirelss DOT com/#/coverage …. oh well.  The road to hell is paved with good intentions.. 😉

      • jjt

I already get LTE on the east side of Richmond, on E. Main past the train station.  So yeah, it’s coming online in Richmond as we speak.  By the way, it’s fast as lightning.  So far, (even without the whole LTE network up and running),  I got speeds up to 17.71Mbps downloads.  That’s as fast as my Comcast broadband connection.  I can only expect that it will be better and faster once they flip the switch on the network throughout Richmond.

    • Ferrhis892

I happen to have a pretty strong 4g signal this very second at VCU across the street from the siegel center. So im hopeful oct. 1st is the day. Ive also heard that from a couple other ppl, but verizon goons are notorious for unfounded hype.

      • babadush

It’s true I drove over by Broad and Harrison and got 4g. I did a speed test and the download and upload was backwards though. 4mb download 20 upload. I’m guessing they are still working on it

    • I live in colonial heights and they have been working on the 4g today.  The icon has popped up on my tbolt all day.  Saaaaaaaaweet!

    • JB

A coworker in downtown Richmond VA has the 4G indicator on his Verizon device today.  They may be testing.  He said it was on for a while yesterday (9/20/2011) too.

    • Juststevenva

I know I was in the VA Beach area this weekend and it was the first time I recieved 4G service also was able to get it a lil in Northen Suffolk
