Download: Official DROID Bionic Boot Animation

If anyone is interested in flashing the official DROID Bionic boot animation to their phone, we have it for you below.  We have seen this puppy pop up in video and through a reader re-creation, but this is the real deal for those that are itching for more.

Download:  bootanimation.zip | sound file

You do not need to be rooted in order to apply this file, but it certainly helps.  Depending on your device, you will want to either look in the “Media” folder to replace your old bootanimation.zip or you can try sticking it in /data/local like we did back in the day.  I’d try to walk you through instructions, but each phone seems to be different these days.  Oh, and these sound files tend to be hit or miss when flashing.

Cheers ___!

Excellent, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. Thank for this imformation.

Well, good news for me, thanks!

Here’s how to get it working (with sound!) on a Droid2 Global:

    1. Copy the Bionic.ogg and bootanimation.zip files to your SD card.
    2. Using your favorite root capable file manager (RootExplorer, Total Commander, I used TC), copy the bootanimation.zip to /data/local (this allows you to keep the stock boot animation, allowing you to unroot/accept updates/whatever)
    3. Copy the Bionic.ogg file to /system/media/audio/notifications
    4. Reboot and enjoy the sights and sounds!

This also works for Droid X. I had to reboot twice for some reason, got stuck at the Motorola M the first time, did a battery pull (which may be what made it work?), booted again and everything is as it should be.

Does anyone know how i can get the boot animation on my Atrix 4g? I am non rooted so i want to know how to apply it without being rooted.

  • Kylch

Will this work on my OG Droid and is there any chance of bricking my phone when applying this?

    • Mark

I’m running CM7 on an OG Droid and could only get a sound file to work by following the directions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096068 (in the “How to add sound:” section). I found a bionic.mp3 file to use instead of the bionic.ogg file and replaced the android_audio.mp3 file mentioned in the xda forum.

If using es file explorer you have to go into setting and check the boxes next to root and mount system

It wont download to my DX :(

  • McD

Really love this animation. So much so that I actually dropped it in my custom rom for the Incredible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232557 hope my peeps like it. Don’t see how they couldn’t lol.

  • Nerdslogic

works great on rooted X2 running Eclipse 2.2. Both sound and animation work flawlessly.

Following these directions did the trick.

Used ES File Explorer to rename my original bootanimation.zip then copied both files into the following directories. Rebooted my phone and confirmed working animation and sound.
    As posted by fa3sr011

    bootanimation.zip > system/media Bionic.ogg > system/media/audio/notifications

Make sure you do this as well.

As posted by Van Hicks, Jr

If your using Rootexplorer, tap the top of the screen where it says “Mount R/W”, you want it to say “Mount R/O”. Then rename your original animation with “.Bak” at the end of it and then paste the new one in.

Now this is the kind of story/info I like from DL. Nice job.

  • Mneighbo

It won’t let me rename, move, delete my original boot animation :(

I am using ES File Expl or Astro Manager. Trying anything…

I can’t get the sound file to work on CyanogenMod for DX. Tried putting the sound file in every folder in  System/Media, no go for me. Will be waiting to see if anyone gets it on CM7 for DX.

    • Adam Elghor

Doesn’t work on Droid X running MIUI put boot animation in both places and rebooted and nothing happened same miui boot animation any ideas…?

    • Malonzo85

Use root explorer, make sure you delete the old boot animation after clicking the mount R/w button

    • No

DX MIUI animation working fine (didn’t try sound). Must mount R/W and overwrite bootanimation.zip in system/media.

i had no luck, but i will give it another try.

Animation works on 2.3.340 2.2 rooted Froyo but sound did not. Booted with same old ‘Droid’ sound.

I think I might get it.. Ill wait to test it in store first.  I already have a Droid 2 Global, and a Droid Charge, 2 upgrades available and my new every two discounts. Whaaat..  I’ll Sell my D2G & Charge, Take that money an buy the Bionic off contract, and still have my Upgrades for Vigor, Prime, or Droid HD/Dinara, Etc..  Gonna be a lovely next few months!!

  • Dominick

How does one get this working on a non rooted Droid X?

    • Anonymous

      One doesn’t. Root is required.

      • Billyrouth2000

It clearly says in the article that root is not required

        • Anonymous

My mistake, must’ve read right over that. I’ve always been rooted and have always just figured you needed root to change boot animations/sounds.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Bellotti/100000517847732 Anthony Bellotti

tried putting sound file in every folder of /system/media with no luck. Sound just doesn’t want to play on DINC2.

  • Anonymous

Just so happens that I will be state-side for a couple weeks in sept. It would be PERFECT if the Bionic hits stores while I am there so I can play with it. C,mon release date!

  • 11knives

Anyone know where I can find the wallpaper from that last bionic video that was posted?

  • fartbubbler

love this boot animation, but I think I’m going to wait to have it on my Bionic.

If I have it now on my DX, it would seem less exciting when I buy my Bionic in a couple weeks  :)

  • Teevo0108

Where is the directions for DROID x2 none rooted?

  • Silverpony2001

Anyone get the sound to work on a Droid X?  The desc.txt in the bootanimation says this:

    # s defines a sound for a part# sounds will be loaded from /system/media# oggs with loop points will loop automatically# only one sound will play at a time# timing is driven by the part, not the sounds# if you want no sound, leave blank

Tried putting the sound in system/media with the bootanimation.zip, no luck.  Also tried leaving the sound in system/media and moving the bootanimation.zip to data/local.  Still no luck.  The boot animation plays fine though, in either of those spots.

    • Anonymous

Sound doesn’t seem to work on my X either, but I actually prefer a silent boot anyway

    • Milkweed25

Sound works for me. Place the Bootanimation.zip in System/media Folder. Place Sound file in System/media/audio Folder.
      Hope that helps.

      • Milkweed25

Sorry forgot a folder. Sound file goes in System/media/audio/notifications

        • Silverpony2001

          Thanks, that worked!

    Wow, you’re up early @Kellex:disqus , haha

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10215724 Raj Bhatt

My D1 isn’t handling this bootanim very well… Then again my D1 doesn’t handle almost anything well anymore. Need the Bionic, but I’ll be pissed if the Prime comes out right after it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1535935658 Morgan Boyle

do what i’m going to do.  Buy the Bionic and a case and sell it when (if) the Prime comes out.  I am sure you will be able to get $400 for it.  un-contracted phones in mint condition sell very well.

      • Anonymous

and i will be willing to buy it for ~$400

      • Mrhug3

        My plan exactly.

      • Trooper

I will probably do the same.

    • OG Droid

Hey check this out Bionic boot video, with wallpapers, widgets, etc.

  • Kixofmyg0t

    I love this boot animation!

Think I’ll replace my X’s one with this riiiiight now…

  • Teevo0108

Have anyone seen or heard of the laptop dock price? I hope it’s not really expensive with the phone being so high

  • Anonymous

This will be one of the toughest decisions I will make this year. I’m up for an upgrade this month, but I need to be certain that the Prime is coming to verizon. Since the SGSII fell through, it’s hard to put stock on any rumor at this point with the big red, and their devices.
