Verizon Support: DROIDX2 Gingerbread Update Starts Rolling Out Today

According to Verizon support and contrary to reports yesterday, the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update for the DROIDX2 should start rolling out today in batches and will continue on until everyone has it.  We just checked ours and it’s not there yet, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be checking like mad.  The update, at least in pictures, appears to include the brand new version of Blur that can be seen on the DROID3 and Bionic, along with a whole batch of bug fixes.

We’ve been told that the soak test for Motorola’s private group has begun today, so it wouldn’t surprise us if the mass rollout did not start until Friday.  You can view the entire changelog for this update here.

To check to see if the update is available to you, do the following:

Menu>Settings>About phone>System updates

*Note – If you are rooted and a DX2 owner, accepting this update might not be the best idea if you plan on being rooted ever again.  So far, 2.3 on the DX and D3 have not been rooted. (Cheers for the reminder Lonnie!)

Cheers Dylan!

Consumer Reports has the Thunderbolt as Verizon’s best smart phone.  Smart people there.

Where the heck is my TB update?

    • Anonymous

IDK. Where did you last see it? Kitchen counter?

In case all you TB people haven’t figured it out yet, this is a DX2 post. The DX2 is made by Motorola. The TB is made by HTC. They are different companies. The DX2 GB update is therefore unrelated to the TB getting an update.

Live and learn from your mistakes and continue to enjoy your Froyo.

      • Anonymous

Our mistakes?! What did we do to not have Gingerbread, huh? If it is our mistake, I would have rectified it by shoving your X2 somewhere you don’t like, so don’t start that, “Live and learn from your mistakes,” crap!

  • I have to get across my appreciation for your generosity giving support to those individuals that really need help on this important study. Your personal commitment to getting the solution throughout was surprisingly important and has constantly encouraged girls much like me to realize their endeavors. Your helpful help signifies so much a person like me and a whole lot more to my peers. Thank you; from each one of us.

  • I not to mention my guys came studying the great procedures from your web page and then all of a sudden I got a terrible suspicion I had not expressed respect to the web blog owner for those tips. Those guys are already excited to read them and have in effect certainly been making the most of these things. Thanks for really being indeed thoughtful as well as for utilizing such nice tips millions of individuals are really desperate to understand about. My honest regret for not saying thanks to you sooner.

  • I had a rooted GB on my DX. Why they can’t get rooted GB for the X2 is beyond me.

    • Anonymous

You do realize that the hardware is entirely different, right? Different CPU, different GPU, different drivers.

I want the ThunderBolt GingerBread update!

    • Anonymous

      That’s nice. I want a Porsche 911 turbo.

      • Anonymous

That’s nice. You can go drive it into a tree, troll.

  • no GB on my DX2 yet

  • GregatManKindPC

Sweet!  You used my Twitter name!

  • Jester4281

    Dear VZW,

My HTC Thunderbolt says “SCREW YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    EVERY HTC Thunderbolt Owner

    • Jarod Sigmund

You realize this is an HTC issue, right? If VZW had the update they’d push it out.

    • Anonymous

Poor pissed off TB owners. You all knew you were buying a 1st gen LTE phone, with terrible battery life and Froyo, but you had to get it anyway. You’ve got nobody to blame but yourselves.

      • Anonymous

How’d we know if was a problematic phone, huh? So stfu, go eat a twinkie, because the more u get on ppl, the more I get on u.

  • Anonymous

I have yet to hear of anyone getting this update…

    • Jkh746

You’re right.  I was accepted into the soak test and I don’t have it yet.  Not sure where they get this information sometimes.  If anyone has this update let us know.

      • Lordtbo

I was too but still no soak test or emails from Motorola.

  • Talk About Hype And Going Bonkers, Ahhh I Love It.

  • Flip74k

Nice. Im mashing my update button even more today lol!!!

  • Jason

Too bad the official GB update has made GPS useless on my DX. Slow to find a satellite and inaccurate location. If anyone has a fix please reply!

    • Anonymous

      Got Root? 🙂

  • This is amazing news. Will be mashing my system update button 🙂

  • Faust’s_Lament

My wife just got this phone, and when the update comes through, I’d like to install it.  But I’ve never done this before, and so I was hoping if someone could tell me what would happen to the apps, widgets, and media that so far has been installed on her phone? I realize I should take out the SD card, but what about everything that’s on the phone itself? Thanks for the help!

    • Unknown4100

U don’t have to remove the sd card, just update and ur phone will have everything u installed and added before the update.

      • Faust’s_Lament

        Great — thanks!!

    • Anonymous

Just let the phone do it’s thing, no need to remove the SD card either.

Still waiting for GB update for the Thunderbolt

    • MD69

ME TOO, i guess we will be waiting forever.  by the time we get it ICS or jellybean will be out

    • Jarod Sigmund

great, but no one is listening.

    • Anonymous

  • If you want to keep root, I wouldn’t accept that update. If it’s 2.3.4, which it likely is, there are no current root methods for that with a locked bootloader.

  • Knightcrusader

I was going to say, and the D2, D2G GB updates are where? Oh yeah, they are at cyanogenmod.com, that’s where.

I trust a CM7 nightly more than I do any software from Motorola.

    • Adam Elghor

      TRUE THAT!!!

  • Anonymous

Motorola soak test cycle is 2 weeks.  If it started today as mentioned in the article then figure out when it will hit the devices.

    • Anonymous

it was 2 days for the DX.  Over memorial day weekend no less.

Which is probably why the GB update for the DX Is a steaming pile off poo.

  • Anonymous

Ahhh, good ‘ol ^AH… you always bring us the truth.  Unlike that lying bastard ^LM :X

  • Anonymous

This is coming from the Verizon Support Twitter account?  Are we sure they didn’t mean to post something about the Xoom and they got confused?

  • Mctypething

Does anyone actually own this phone?

    • SugaShane

Only because assurion replaced my DX with it.

      • beanboy

True that!…. lol same here :’-(

    • Ryan

I own it simply because 4g won’t be in my area until sometime in 2012 or 2013 and I updated from the droid eris. So for my current needs and what I upgraded from it’s a great phone.

      • Adam Elghor

oooh how i remember my eris…good times

    • Nkmett15

Not as many as the original…but the people that do, myself included, will have Gingerbread before the Thunderbolt and some other older phones so that makes me happy!!!

    • VK

Stop complaining folks its a nice stable phone that works well as a phone, for emails, as a gps and web browser and good battery life does everything well nothing exceptional and nothing bad. Tried the Droid Charge returned it. 4G and screen were great but issues with 3G, gps and battery life. A mini van is not exciting but when its time for soccer you really wish you had one

  • Anonymous

I hope the Gingerbread update for the Dx2 doesn’t turn it into a giant piece of floating excrement like it made my Dx.

    Good luck!

    • Yeah, what happened to the GB for Droid 2 Global?

      • mtad

        • hkklife

Don’t forget the Droid Pro GB update that was quietly pulled after being sent out to testers.
It ran decently (fewer bugs than the DX update) but destroyed the Pro’s battery life.

    • Yeah, what happened to the GB for Droid 2 Global?

  • Guest

still waiting for gingerbread on droid2

  • What the Frack?!

UPDATE: They meant Galaxy Tab 10.1.

    • Anonymous

No no no, they mean the Droid X with 2 GB sd card.

      • DAN

I thought they ment the LG Dare……. :/ maybe next time

        • Adam Elghor

          no they meant the i*hone

  • Anonymous

Still waiting on that Droid 2 update.

  • DX2HappyOwner

It’s about time!  I have had no major issues with my X2.  But I certainly hope that Gingerbread fixes the “lagginess” in the home screen swipes.  That choppy switching of home screens is unacceptable for a dual-core machine.  And yes, I’ve tried other home launchers, and they work fine – but I uninstalled them in anticipation of getting Gingerbread.

  • Mario Lo

    I don’t trust anybody

  • Brent Farago

Is this new version of Blur also on the Droid X 1 Gingerbread update?

  • BJ P.

when do droid targa(?) coming out?

  • Anonymous

@VZWSupport: Oh sorry we meant the phones that already have Gingerbread will have it, there are no updates on the DroidX2 on our site sorry.

  • daniel walsh

    don’t trust motorola or verizon

  • MFG

I no longer trust Verizon Support tweeters since the GSII LTE mishap 🙁

    • EC8CH

I have chosen to stubbornly believe their original tweet was accurate:

The Verizon Samasung Galaxy SII will have 4G.

I read it on the internet, so it’s gotsta be true.
