Asus to Introduce Quad-Core Tegra 3 Transformer by October?

File this one away under gigantic rumor, but word in the component shipping world pegs Asus as preparing their first Kal-El (quad-core) Tegra 3 version of the Transformer for an October release.  While our first reaction is to say that this seems highly unlikely, we do know that NVIDIA is expecting tablets with their new Tegra chip to start shipping some time around the end of the Summer.  We’re only calling it “unlikely” because of the lack of internet buzz surrounding any manufacturer’s quad-core tablets.

It would make sense for Asus to rush to be the first, especially after seeing the success of their Tegra 2 Transformer which DigiTimes is calling the number one non-Apple tablet in the U.S.  Why not capitalize on all of the buzz that has surrounded one of the hardest tablets on the market to find?  Hell, even we struggled to find one to give away.  OK, that’s an exaggeration, but it was the hottest of all of the tablets that we gave away.

To our Transformer readers out there – are you ready for what’s next?  Is Asus now your tablet brand of choice?

Can Asus make a quadcore (Nvidia tegra 3 full HD(1080p) Display with integrated phone set

  • Daniel J

Ok, I have a Transformer, and yes they do live up to the hype. I have had mine since June and plan up getting the 2 (got my original sold). I suggest you get one if you have a chance, it will blow you away. The speed, sound, graphics.. amazing

  • Anonymous

You can buy one at Harvey Norman Australia. Been looking at it this very afternoon. Very nice, will wait for the Tegra 3 or go Apple Nazi and buy the new Ipad 3 if it comes out before Christmas. Given up on Sammy.

  • Daniel7443

returning the Iconia for my Transformer was the greatest decision I ever made. I cant wait until 2 comes out in a month. (I already have a buyer for this model) it has blown me away.

to bad the build quality sucks. the trim around the bezel looks like they hammered it in then slathered glue all over it…… the glass creaks around the edges…the speakers are weak and crack… half the time you can only see half of the temperature… the list goes on. yet for some reason i still love it.b

    • Anonymous

yikes maybe they will improve on the build quality with the newer tablet

    • Ed

Either I am blind or lucky but my TF lacks the quality flaws you described.

Motorola better step it up & fast because if this is true & i’m still waiting for sd card slot & 4g on the xoom by the time the Asus tablet comes out then it’s bye bye Xoom!!!!

  • Watchatalknboutwillis

transformer owner and I love mine more and more every day, a very smooth and capable experience with a great price tag… I’ve already got my money outta this one!

I just got the Transformer I’m using right now YESTERDAY. Fml

  • Travislufsey

I’m thinking I’m going to get the toshiba thrive.
    10 inch LED screen
    User replicable battery
    Fully functional usb port
    expandable memory
Supposedly 23 hours of working battery life
    Dual core.

    • Calculatorwatch

I believe that’s a 23 watt-hour battery, which I think is pretty standard for tablets so it should probably have merely average battery life, too bad cause 23 hours would be awesome

  • Calculatorwatch

Yay! so much for getting a Transformer, the Transformer 2 is now what I want

At least until September or so when we hear rumors of the Transformer 3 with Tegra 4 octo-core processor to be out by Christmas 😛

  • gimlet72

I am still waiting to see what Amazon is coming out with as the “hollywood” tablet will be a quad core. Although the latest is that it will be a TI OMAP processor. If amazon can come out with a solid hardware tablet they will be tough to beat as they can offer a lot of peripheral support and options. I have 500$ waiting to buy a tablet, just waiting for the right one. I would have picked up the Samsung if it had a SD slot.

    • Guest

why would amazon be able to offer a lot of peripheral support and options while another manufacturer wouldn’t be able to?

      your logic doesn’t hold up

  • d-roids

    im glad i waited

  • Slllllyyy

    The Asus Tegra 3 Transformer!
Now with 5 minutes of battery life!!

    2 mintes when using 3G.
And around 15 seconds with 4G.

    • Guest

you sir have no idea how multiprocessor cores work and how they consume battery.

go get an education before you type stupid posts like this.

    • Watchatalknboutwillis

Battery life will be improved, but thanks for the ignorant comment.

    • Jovian

One of the benefits of quadcore devices is the extended battery life.

  • BigRed4X15

Although I love my acer iconia I am admittedly jealous of the galaxy tab 10.1

  • Djenks24

I wish there was news about the PadFone, that’s going to be mine.

  • George Chahinian

i was holding off on grabbing a transformer so i could get a quad-core version….pretty pumped to hear this news, and as far as im concerned it cant come soon enough 😀

  • JMKentington

As long as they don’t try to add a custom UI.

Exciting news! I just got my OG Transformer this week. LOVE IT! I’ll be excited for Asus to lead the Android tablet charge. Good for them!

  • SprottheDestroyer

If this is true, ill have to break down and get a tablet. Havent wanted one. Didn’t know why anyone else wanted one, but that ones going to be a BEAST!

    • Interstellarmind

being a smartphone user (tbolt) i found having a tablet redundant.

      • Ed

Not if you want to take Evernote notes at seminars (keyboard dock) or show off your photography portfolio on a decent-size screen (I am a pro photographer).

  • It would be great if they would introduce the original transformer first…..

  • SHINY THINGS!!! I would like this for my birthday please

  • FortitudineVincimus

I think the Amazon Hollywood is a Quad-Core and is trying to beat this release date, no?

Anyway.. it is stuff like this – and the recent knock on the display quality – that further shows the Xoom was a bad joke bought into by a small (since it hardly sold) sect of the population.

    • Anonymous

I’m actually glad it was so expensive.  If it had came out at the same price as the Asus Transformer, I would have been all over it (and consequently all over this board complaining about the lack of sdcard support and no 4G…)

    • Granted

Yeah but if you’re a reader here you have Kleenex pumping the Xoom like it’s the only tablet you’ll ever need, then the day after it’s out, he jumps on the whining train and starts bashing it and telling you, you need to by the latest and greatest crap that is coming out and that the companies that pay him to advertise want you to buy. It’s like that with every new phone or tablet. It’s like the boy who cried i have no integrity!

  • Anonymous

I’m glad I’m to broke to afford the original, now I can save for this.

    • Deusinvictus

I’m in the same boat…well maybe I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford the next one either.

      • Anonymous

Either will I. Plus, I’d rather spend the money on a muti-core LTE phone.

  • Interstellarmind

very cool… but unless it doubles as a phone (or has a attachable/ detachable phone) i’m not interested.

…and by “not interested,” i mean, will force myself to not buy it, wven though i will want to really, really badly.

Vizio’s upcoming looks pretty good to me…. IR feature (controlling your TV) it is very appealing to me

With Gingerbread and likely never to see honeycomb…hmmmm

I saw that but like shdowman said it only comes with Android 2.3. Might want to pass on it.

    • Calvin Williams

The dual core 1.5ghz $349(?) 10″ Archos tablet looks much better than the Vizio.

I trust DigiTimes as far as I can throw em.

If true, I may have just found a worthy upgrade from my HC Nook Color.  🙂

    • I’m running CM7 on my nook color – can you point me to the method you used to get to HC? How is it working?

  • Anonymous

If thats the case, they seriously need to up production big time.

What would be amazing if they made a “nexus” tablet.
~Thin as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
~2560×1600 Resolution display~Tergra 3 (as stated as above)
    ~up to 256GB option
    ~MicroHDMI,SD(XC), USB
and don’t forget the keyboard dock as well.  🙂

Needs to be thinner and lighter than the current Tranformer. My Tab 10.1 is spoiling me.

    • Anonymous

I would have to agree. Though I haven’t held a transformer I assume that its something like a cross between the Xoom and the Acer Icona. However, I went and played with the Samsung 10.1 recently and its thinness is a huge plus.

      • I messed with a transformer the other day… only gripe (and a small one at that) was the plastic-y back cover; it felt cheap-ish and was a bit thick.  Otherwise… a slick device.

  • I hope it does not need accessories!

  • Anonymous

I hope that all the accessories are compatible when it does come out.

Oh, and I hope that the accessories are even available when it comes out…
