LG Revolution has been Rooted, Good Bye Bing.

For those of you that picked up an LG Revolution yesterday, you should know that our boys over at RootzWiki have already rooted it.  It looks like LG left this one pretty wide open to that old rageagainstthecage exploit, making it easily rooted by pushing a couple of files in adb.  Time to remove that Bing!

Cheers Andy!

yeah.. like i’m dumb enough to get this phone in the first place.. 8mp to five.. all set, i’ll stick to my rooted TB

  • Calesdroid

phone is nice, havent searched with bing yet and already planning to root and set my search button to google.

  • Steve Hillshire

If I want BING I’d buy a WP7 device.  WHAT PART OF THIS DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND VERIZON?!?!?!

it’s no different than T-mobile logging Google in on my HTC HD7
that i used to have even though it’s a WINDOWS PHONE.

Bing is not that bad and actually better than Google Search to me.
It’s just a part of a “Fad” like someone stated earlier
that is hating anything that is not google(like apple fanboys) who sees to hate
anything that is not apple….which is funny when Apple/Android users argue
because they are just the same)

Not a big deal nor a dealbreaker but some do tend to make big deals
      out of small situaitons

    • eddieonofre

      yes sir we are.

both the htc sensation and SGS2 would mop tear this apart so y would I want this?

I have this, and I love it! The Snapdragon is actually dual-core, and LG-specific apps work well. Except FB for LG. I promptly downed the actual FB app! Auto screen brightness is seamless and saves a lot of battery, especially if your a night person. Batt needs to be a little heaftier, but no worries. HDMI is super sweet. Netflix takes a minute to load, but streaming is perfect, though only slightly choppy on HD content. All in all, great little device. I recommend Quick USB Tethering app to bypass built in lock, for those without root. Still no way to tether wifi yet, but soon.

Priceless…a blog post trashing BING with a large BING add in the right hand column next to the post.  Nothing like pulling in the add revenue and trashing the product at the same time.

    Nice work Kellex!!

    • Steve Hillshire

How about when Android blogs (no one in particular) put apple iphone ads on the same page as your Android news?

    • Anonymous

i dont have a bing ad, i have a google chrome ad, and an ad for Dice: job search for techs…other than that its all android related stuff

    • Anonymous

I have no problem with bing on the desktop. but the moblie verison isn’t nearly as good as google’s

    • Rvh

mtkregs… It sounds like you have been googling “bing” LOL. Ads are generated from cookies on your computer. Go look at chainsaws from harbor freight and then come back and see adds for table saws and hammers, etc.

  • Andy Stetson

Woo!  I got a cheers!  Picked up my Revo earlier, and i’m loving it, cant wait to root it!

Was it really necessary to root it to get rid of bing?  it was un-uninstallable? Terrible.

Well here is where it gets really bad… Verizon is going to Bing everything they can and “PEOPLE” are making content that cannot be utilized on rooted phones.

That is a BAD scenario for Verizon, Google, and mostly… US!

  • http://twitter.com/gardobus Juan

Unless I am mistaken, there is currently no way to get into recovery and do backups so messing with system files could cause trouble if you don’t know what you’re doing.

  • Greg

As i have said in the past, after talking to an LG rep they will not be looking their phones at all. So cheers to LG :)

this is a win now i may consider this phone when i get my new one :) hello moto on lg

Still don’t know why anyone would get this over the Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt has more RAM, higher MP camera and I’m sure a much better dev community all for the same price.

    • Anonymous

Because this one does not seem to have the same issues as the Thunderbolt. I for one would pick this up over the TB because of the screen, and build quality. If they get a custom recovery on it and it has an unlockable bootloader, LG will get my money.

    • Carmen Diva

lol why do people feel the need to post comments like
“Idk why anyone would get Device A over Device B”

People may not know about Ram or Developer’s community…
      tech geeks are a minority

Personally, i know about the Thunderbolt and Revolution’s RAM and all
that but I’d get the Revolution simply because

A)Form Factor is better…not as bulky as HTC
B)HTC camera’s are crap compared to other manufacturers
C)there have been issues with Battery life and other things with
      the thunderbolt

      • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

Thunderbolt camera is actually pretty good. Maybe a bit oversaturated, but has a good low light performance and very sharp. Face recognition and touch to focus works very well too.

  • http://twitter.com/Atst4 Steve J

Please fix “Roozwiki”….  Sorry, but I feel that is a must…

      Whoops :P

      • http://twitter.com/Atst4 Steve J

No prob. Cool to see that they rooted it. I saw “Birdman” post about the craziness of it earlier…

Wow, that was fast.  I wish this phone was more like the G2x though, ugh!

Why would they put Bing on any phone? Microsoft employees don’t even use Bing….

    • John

      $$$$$$

    • Mr. Joe

When I use Bing I get reward points that I can exchange for items!

In addition Bing really isn’t all THAT bad.  People just like following fads by being anti Bing.

Kind of like anti Microsoft/Google/DL.  People do it cause it’s what the cool kids are doing.

      • I’m Kick-Ass!

        Mr. Joe

You’re missing the point. Bing isn’t being offered as a choice. Its being locked to the phone. Use Bing if U want but Verizon shouldn’t force it down our throats just because MS paid them.

      • Anonymous

i’ve not used it on the mobile platform, but on computers microsoft installs things on your computer that you do not agree to them installing when you use bing, just like apple and their safari

Wonder if SuperOneClick will work for this.

      z4root ftw

      • Andy Stetson

z4root fails miserably, haven’t tried SuperOneClick.  Gingerbreak also fails.

Superoneclick works fine just select Gingerbreak as the exploit
