HTC Flyer Online Pre-sale Begins, Shipping May 22?

The HTC Flyer has been available on pre-sale since April 24 in Best Buy stores, but as of this weekend, also became available online for $499.  We still have no word on an actual release date, but its new landing page does offer up at estimated arrival date of 5/22-5/27, so we’ll surely be marking that week on our calendars.

Now, I don’t about you guys, but after having a XOOM for 2 months, I’m starting to really look forward to this 7″ entry from HTC.  It should have Honeycomb shortly after launch, will be ultra-portable, and again, is sexy as hell.  Anyone skipping the Tegra 2 wave and going with the smaller Sense-filled Flyer?

Pre-order.

“It should have Honeycomb shortly after launch”

I’ll believe it when I see it. Considering that Xoom still can’t get sdcard slot to work, it is not cool to put your money on a promise.

I’ve got mine pre-ordered. Now I just need to sell my G-tab and Xoom to pay for it. I’m looking forward to the scribe technology for meetings. The Xoom’s too heavy and certainly not something you’d use for note taking. The G-tab’s resolution is too low, I’m hoping the Flyer hits the sweet spot between the two. I just wish it was coming out on Verizon first with LTE instead of wi-fi only. But I figure I can always use the hotspot feature on my phone if needed.

“Nothing the flyer can do that the tab can’t” – except use a real stylus?

I am. (I am Chris/found the info for the article) I am in school and am in a situation where computers are allowed, but some teachers don’t like an upright screen, because they think some peeps go on facebook. I don’t (I am on Droid-Life, :D). The stylus is great, I love to type, but sometimes you have to write it – draw lines to stuff. It’s functional, compared to tablets like the XOOM. Don’t get me wrong, I almost bought the XOOM, great device. It doesn’t really bring anything to the table in my opinion though. It is really nice, but it doesn’t have a functionality – I already have a ThunderBolt, and a 17in *acBook Pro. It is 7 or 8 pounds, and not easy to whip out.
    Just a thought :D.
That’s my situation, and I used my money accordingly. :P

MacBook is allowed. Anything with i in it is not. I mean, Google used MacBooks for the Honeycomb presentation.

meh. still doesn’t bring in the right crowd. :)

I was looking forward to this until I realized it’s not “Virtual Ink.” Anything you draw is drawn as a picture, not something that is attempted to be transcribed to written text that can be manipulated.

I’m waiting on the Transformer and hoping the stylus functionality is more software than hardware.

2 year protection plan for $239.99 lol you almost can replace it with something new in 6 months.

Pre-ordered it already…got it for my daughter, I think it will be a good tool for school. They don’t allow them at her school (?) but it will still be good for her studies at home, her own research tool, etc. Funny thing is, she’s my guinea pig…after “we” test drive it, I’ll decide if I want one for myself :)

I will wait until it hits Woot later this summer, and then only if the discount is steep enough and i can get (presuably through XDA) Sense off of it while maintaining the Scribe software.

Not buying another HTC product and certainly not buying another tablet unless its got fireworks coming out of it’s ass. This game stops here for me.

  • TheVoiceOfReason

There is literally NOTHING about this table that entices me.

for me personally, its the most promissing tablet to come out this year

if I can get a Transformer for $399 that already comes with Honeycomb, why would I want a smaller one that still runs FroYo for at least $100 more??

      Who said anything about FroYo?

    • Anonymous

Because nothing says really big Palm Pilot quite like a Stylus. All it needs is a graffiti clone for handwriting recognition.

      • EC8CH

Palm Pilot… lame. I had a iPaq, which reminds me… Compaq should sue *pple :-P

I already pre-ordered mine. I am looking forward to the stylus functionality.

you mean the same functionality I had on my palm pilot VII? I wonder if the flyer has the flipout antenna too :P

A lot of hating going on for this product. The scribe technology is actually bringing some function to tablets that so far have no function other than playing games or watching a movie.

People are sheep. They see that it is not dual core and 10 inch and automatically hate it.

I have mine pre-ordered. I cannot wait to make use of the scribe technology.

To me that’s like saying, “A steering wheel? I had one of those on my 1972 Dodge Dart.I wonder if it has crank down windows too. :P”
If it works, why knock it?
