Pre-order a Thunderbolt Today, Leave the Store Without a Confirmed Pick-up Date

I feel like I should apologize for all of the talk about the release date of a single phone, but it’s the first 4G LTE device from Verizon, is a beast, and can’t be helped.  So what’s new?  Well, the screenshot above confirms that the pre-order starts today and mentions the 14th as being the launch date, except that same date is followed by the words “date is subject to change.”  Comforting.  Anyone up for dropping $50 on a phone with an open-ended date for pick-up?

Maybe a Super Bowl announcement is coming?  The situation is beyond silly at this point.

Cheers Fajnor92!

I don’t suppose you can also use your NE2 discount at Best Buy can you? That’s $50 I was hoping to be able to use towards this phone…

    • Danford884

I’m using my new every 2 at BB. They pulled up my account saw that I had an upgrade available and quoted me the $249. You do get to use the $50 towards the phone. The $50 gives you a $50 BB Mobile gift card to use towards your phone.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PJ7OWXZQWASRO37ZN5SDNFS7UM Mark Baker

Right, but did you get the $50 from VZW as your NE2 discount? Meaning, the phone is only $200 vs. $250. I understand you get the $50 gift card from BB, but you are paying $50 for that, so the phone is still $250.

        • Danford884

I actually didn’t ask. I was in a hurry yesterday when I ordered it. Good question though.

I pre-ordered mine yesterday and the reps at BB said it would be released on 2/13. I’m thinking he was just mistaking it with the Inspire, but there’s always hope. He said he would call me when it was ready to be picked up.

  • Jpadidas198

Best buy is taking sales away from all the stores. They pay there employees nothing and I always have to deal with issues that happen to customers.

  • Cchorner1975

pre ordered mine around 1pm and i was first to do so in annapolis, md, love my Dinc and this is bigger and faster so whats to loose. I to have no need for a tablet, already have a 24″ sony all in one touch screen that i love, so who cares about xoom…..

  • Greenbay32

your a fag!!! what the hell else is better iphone5, lg bionic???? go to hell!!

  • Scea67

I dont want a Verizon Evo , Ill wait for something far better !!

  • Scea67

    UHHH No Thanks !!!!

  • Tumausmc

this is just maybe a thought and maybe wishful thinking, but with today being superbowl sunday and always a huge day for commercials and such, maybe we will get some sort of confirmation out of some over the top commercial from verizon…

  • Hpradford

There has been no word from verizon wireless on the release date of the HTC Thunderbolt.

  • Tumausmc

I just called my local store and according to the below average intelligence customer service rep that i spoke to verizon is telling them that it will be available as of right now on the 24th, but expect an update by tuesday to change that date to the 14th

  • Hpradford

Working for VZW i cannot pre order the phone so i cant wait to get my hands on the thunderbolt. it is probably not a dual processor but after playing with it its the phone for me. so thats why i am getting it. YEEEE!!!

  • Jake

I just got back from pre ordering, the lady tried to lie to me saying that they don’t have pre ordering. She didn’t even know what the thunderbolt was. I wouldn’t take no for an answer so they finally said okay. I think I was the only one in my town pre ordering that phone, pretty stupid.

  • http://www.agrstech.com Zephaniah

So, pre order only in store? Because that means I would have to be leaving the game party. When your boss is holding it, you don’t leave till its over.

    • mario7

The party started at 10 AM?

      • http://www.agrstech.com Zephaniah

No, its a party after church. I am director of media arts for Turning Point Church so I could not leave. The party was at the end of church for church staff at our pastors house.

  • Motta2003

I just pre-ordered mine this morning. Ya, the open ended date is a bother but at least when it comes out I’ll have it first. I know, I know… it’s not dual core, balh blah blah… whatever…my wife’s phone (she has an OG) is due in October, so I figure I’d pick mine up now and give it to her when some quad core goodness is out. Win-win for me. Plus if I change my mine the Best Buy buy back is free to join so I can go that route as well.

IMO, ANY device that brings people to Android is worthy.

  • Calidog50

What happened to the comment about Kellex and his iPhone…???

  • http://TurntableTendencies.com Yz

Pre ordered mine, Verizon didn’t give a release date so whatever anyone is saying is all speculative. Not sure why y’all are so hung on the 14th when VZ hasn’t said a word yet. My BB said they didn’t know when it was coming out either. Just sayn’.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OKYTWWUBIITXL7JXTBQQPR76QE Chuck

Just pre-ordered the Thunderbolt at BB. Not sure if I am alone, but they gave me a $50 gift card for pre-ordering the phone. It negates the $50 pre-order fee. They also told me the phone should be ready to pick up on the 14th.

nice, can’t wait to go do mine tommorow? so what 600 off contract with that 50 dollars or 550 ?

      • Ortegac27

Yeah you are right… Assuming you aren’t do for an upgrade.

        • Anonymous

who me? yah i want to sell my dx….so i can buy this, sick of blur….trying to make htc sense with launchers, and my laginess and unsupportive motorola….so what 550 or 600 with the 50 pre-order?

like if the preorder is extra its going to be 600 right?…hope its 550…. :)

          • Ortegac27

            Yep. $600.

          • Alvinm 77

Just sold my Droid X on Ebay for $400 plus accessories so I’ll be picking up mine off contract for $200. Im sick of blur, stock roms, and locked boot loaders…

  • Alvinm 77

Pre ordered mine today. Best Buy told me to come pick it up on the 14th at 7 am!!!!!! So I’ll be there and hopefully they dont tell me to go home lol. Specs are ok but but I really miss Sense UI and my city is on the list for 4G first half this year.

I really wanted a Dual Core device but I’ll have one in my Xoom so I’m not too bummed out. I hate Blur (the new Blur doesnt do it for me either) and I’m tired of stock ROMs on my Droid X and locked boot loaders. Its time for me to return to the reason I fell in love with Android in the first place, Sense UI and no locked boot loaders.

The more updates the better. That’s why we all visit the site.
I just came back from best buy in West Hollywood. I preordered which required $50 gift card purchase. Rep says release v-day and if comes in sooner he will call the number I gave him.

  • Two_cents

I just preordered mine cause it included the buy back program for free… after 2 years it will be worth 120 they say… I could easily stay with my incredible for another 12 months which made me sure I would enjoy the htc thunderbolt for 2 years easily

    • dracos

Thats really why i’m thinking of prerdering because the buy back program is free for this week.

  • jason g

Still no lte pricing? This suggests to me same pricing as 3g. Who would preorder a 4g phone without data pricing ?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=655131773 Charlie Nesh

I preorderd they told me the 17th it comes out. I was the second person to preorder and i was there when they opened.

  • mario7

I signed up for on an hour agao and was told ‘2/14′

  • Anonymous

I am ready for a release date and 4G LTE pricing. Is that too much to ask? There are plenty of us interested in the upcoming Android phones, can’t they see that?

    • http://twitter.com/MarkyD311 MarkyD

LTE pricing will be the same as 3G smartphone data plans. $30.

  • Anonymous

Going to reserve this for the wife and Best Buy said it releases on Feb 14. She is excited.

  • Tankhieucomagain

Why do much hype? Why did it take do long to be released? Its the evo isn’t it? Same specs just more internal memory

    • Alvinm 77

Its a better Evo. The processor and chipset is better. Has the Thunderbolt running 50% more faster then Evo and Incredible with Quadrant scores in the 1900out the box. Imagine overclocked. Dolby and SRS surround sound, better kickstand for sitting up or side view, 8GB internal memory, 32GB sd card pre-installed (saves me $70) first LTE 4G and from what I’ve heard and read, it’s faster then WiMax, HTC Sense 2.0 User Interface with new features like Fast Boot, sync with HTCsense. com, mobile hot spot for up to 8 device, integrated Skype mobile and DLNA Wireless Media Connectivity….. It’s like an Evo 2.0

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NEOS2HO2ITOC6GKUN2Q4DZHZCA Daniel

    1) i’m actually getting really interested in a xoom, probably my next big purchase but most likely only want a wifi one. Really have my phone (or can tether it) if i’m somewhere else.
    2) 1st 4G LTE device is big news to me, and I wonder if they are concerned about A) getting enough pre-orders to hype up the phone or B) having enough stock which is why release date is subject to change

  • Anonymous

My mouth is watering, but I must stay patient and see what the other devices coming will bring. I am definitely happy about the Thunderbolt a great dvice. Can’t wait to see whats coming out as well within the upcoming months as well as the new phone devices.

  • jboy06

Verizon is only going to advertise for the iPhone. Steve Jobs demands it and Verizon will do as its told.

  • http://twitter.com/Gnodmena Gino DiMenna

i just left best buy and was told that pre-orders haven’t started and they don’t know when they will. Did I misread something i was under the impression that pre-orders have started?

    • Anonymous

Yeah you should go back and tell them to read their internal memos heh. People have been pre-ordering all over the country.

      • http://twitter.com/Gnodmena Gino DiMenna

I guess they didn’t get the memo. i will have to print it out and bring it with me. but i did call another best buy in the area and they also told me pre-orders are not today. maybe not all best buy’s participate in pre-orders.

  • Lakerzz

Maybe Verizon will feel obligated to put the Droid brand on this phone by “popular demand”. (One can only wish) :P

    • Anonymous

I may be remembering incorrectly, but didn’t the droid incredible get a last minute DROID branding right before or shortly after its launch?

      • Lakerzz

I believe it was Droid branded from the get go, but received the Droid boot animation later on. Not really sure though.

        • Anonymous

I remember seeing unboxing videos where the packaging simply said htc incredible. Later the packaging was changed. Wasn’t there a post about that on here

          • Lakerzz

            That does sound very familiar.

        • Anonymous

hmmm, nah pretty sure this isn’t droid…..but its not nothing, its the first 4g….hence its own boot animation……its an origional……unlike sprints 4g thing or the droid eyes…

          • Lakerzz

I know, I was just referring to the Droid incredible…

      • Lakerzz

I believe it was Droid branded from the get go, but received the Droid boot animation later on. Not really sure though.

  • Mr_Snrub

Dropping $50 to preorder without knowing the confirmed release date isn’t quite as crazy as dropping $50 to preorder without knowing the price of the phone without a contract.

  • Anonymous
    • http://twitter.com/jbernard703 Jeff Bernard

I have no clue if it is true but it makes a lot of sense. Why would Verizon release a phone that could disrupt in any way what is turning out to be a gold mine with iPhone4. They claim they sold more iPhone4 between 3am and 5am than any other phone in their history had in 24hrs. Releasing their first 4g phone 4 days after the general public can walk in a store and pick up an Apple makes Zero sense.

      • Anonymous

Which is why the 24th made so much sense and why they won’t hammer down a date. It’s sad to see one phone take over a carrier like this. It’s not like they aren’t making money from the Thunderbolt. In fact, they’ll make more on 4G contracts than iPhone 3G contracts. It comes down to them not wanting to piss of Apple and that’s a sad sight to see.

        • Lakerzz

You hit the nail on the head.

    • Anonymous

Well if you read on further in the post your will see that this Miami guy has been wrong tons of times. So this means nothing to me.. Let’s move along and hope for the 14th!

On a side note, I’m up for my new every two. I’m not sure how much money it will save me. I’ve heard buying at BB I won’t be able to use that credit. If it’s 50 bucks vs potentially getting it sooner, then I would opt for getting it sooner. Any feedback on its availability from VZW?

    • Anonymous

Yeah I don’t believe anything that comes out of there. And yes, that guy told the world that the Thunderbolt was going to be out by Thanksgiving.

      • http://twitter.com/MarkyD311 MarkyD

Yeah, that Miami guy is no more an insider than I am a tranny. He’s wrong.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

Miami has a very good track record with this sort of thing. You and Kellex obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.

          • Anonymous

Was that a joke? That entire thread has now been removed as it was a complete trainwreck of a rumor.

    • Ccpardue

Miami means well and seems very confident on this date. I hope he is wrong but what’s another two weeks? The reason so many people believe him is because he “nailed” the date for the Dinc last year. But yes, the whole Thanksgiving release was a fail!

  • Thesquid2d

I think ill hold out until software comes out that supports dual core phones. Other than that, my fascinate with froyo definitely gets the job done. The thunderbolt is the same old phone, except 4g which for me just doesn’t matter too much. Also, the battery life on this thing is going to be atrocious.

    • Anonymous

second gen snapdragon. More efficient and and way better gpu. 40 gigs outta the box. Get you sht straight before you start commenting.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

whne dual core comes out it will be supported by 2.2 moto already stated that they made tweaks to the software to take advantage of the dual core goodness

  • Coaster36

Verizon is just having a ball watching all this hype about the release date. I bet theyre all going to be like this from now on.

If you dont think all the big companys arent reading these sites your living under a rock.

  • Anonymous

    cool

  • Bknox3

Kellex what phone will be you upgrading too this year?

    • Mrpicolas

Ill be getting a thunderbolt and maybe the LG revolution

    • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

      I’ll guess the Bionic :)

    • http://twitter.com/jbernard703 Jeff Bernard

Kellex told me to promise and not tell everyone but I caught him ordering an iPhone4 from Verizon. He doesn’t want everyone to get mad and stop coming to this site but he loves the beautiful styling and iTunes integration he gets with iPhone.

I for one am following this, since it will be my next phone. The Xoom won’t be mine until a wifi version is released. So, the more coverage on this the better.

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

    It’s not really a beast…

I think I speak collectively for most of the DL community when I say we are more excited for the XOOM launch.

That being said, we still appreciate the reporting! :)

    • ..::CorCor::..

Completely disagreed, moto lost me as a long time customer with their anti-dev community approach. Considering this is still a single core device it may not be the most advanced device hitting the shelves this year, but its definately a beast. 2nd gen snapdragon means more improved than the original, less bugs & more efficiant. Plus you can’t beat that much ram in a smartphone.

Its definately a capable device, there are more poweful comming but it looks like a great device.

      Just my 2 cents :)

      • Lakerzz

Haha, and don’t forget 40 gigs of mermory out of the box. Maybe some people don’t care, but it also does voice and data simultaneously. (I actually REALLY care about that).

        • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

I’m still waiting to see that work WELL.

          • http://twitter.com/MarkyD311 MarkyD

it’s going to be slow…think 200-300kbps while on a call. still better than nothing.

      • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

Thats why I said most of the community :P. The TBolt will be a nice device and I’ll recommend it to some of my upgrading friends, but I can see many other DL peeps waiting.

Enjoy the TBolt though. I’m definitely checking it out at my local VZW store when it hits.

    • Coaster36

Dont group me in with those waiting for the xoom. I couldnt care less about a tablet. I have no need for one. Im more excited about the next get of 3g phones. (D3, Incd2, DX2)
