Liberty ROM 1.5 Released for DROID X/2

I’ve been running Liberty ROM 1.0 since day one, so when JRummy, Kejar and the boys dropped 1.5 last night our week became instantly awesome.  They’ve added the ability to overclock through the toolbox, fixed all bugs, and removed even more Blur.  This version is as clean as it gets, so jump on it now DX users.  Oh, you can finally have that new Liberty wallpaper that I’ve been sporting for the last couple of weeks courtesy of davekover.

Download DROID X:  LibertyX-1.5.zip (alt link)

Download DROID 2:  Liberty2-1.5.zip (alt link)

Instructions:

*Wiping data/cache recommended even if coming from 1.0.

1.  You obviously have to be rooted.  (Instructions)
2.  You need to have Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery.
3.  Open the DX Bootstrap and “boostrap” the recovery.
4.  When that finishes, “reboot recovery.”
5.  Once your phone boots to Clockwork Recovery, scroll down to “backup and restore.”
6.  Choose “backup” to make a clean backup of your phone.
7.  After that choose “wipe data/factory reset” to wipe your phone.
8.  When that finishes choose “install zip from SD card.”
9.  Then “choose zip from SD card” and find the LibertyX-1.5.zip, select it and hit “yes.”
10.  Your phone will apply the ROM. When it finishes, reboot and enjoy!

  • Anonymous

i know this is an older post…but i just rooted my husbands droid x(flashed it back to rooted froyo to do away with the connectivity issues) and i’ve heard nothing but good about liberty…but its not on rom manager(the jrummy list errors when it tries to load) can he download liberty from here and use rom manager to flash it?…also, if not, what rom would you recommend?

  • RJ

anyone know how to fix this.  Thanks  RJ

  • RJ

when i added this rom everything works great but my camera and camcorder. It acts like im taking a picture but then it shows a black screen.

  • Generalkenobi_2

The link is dead. Where can I find the liberty rom?

  • Colton Roberts

I have a droidx and i just rooted after a long time of trying to decide but now i don’t understand the whole rom thing can this liberty rom brick my phone and also im not sure of how to do it a video would be nice to watch but i can’t find any Help would be nice thanks

    • This ROM aint any more likely to brick your phone than other ROMS. Actually, it aint ROMs that brick phones, its the whole rooting process. But at this point, and for Droid 2s and Xs; bricking is NOT likely.
PM me (thats my Twitter account) if you need any help (you probably should try out the latest Liberty release, 2.0.1; or if youre willing to go Beta; the new Liberty GingerBread 0.5

  • Jason

I did everything right and seemed to all go as planned and now its stuck on the liberty symbol with the spinning bird, I can’t get it to do anything else….. what do I do now?

    • Chrisyeager12

      Same problem

  • hillbillfill

i cant install the themes … help!!!

  • Epic. Worked perfectly, super clean, really fast on Droid 2. @FLATBED you have to do as the instructions say. Unless it says you can use ROM Manager, DONT. I learned that the hard way with my Droid 1. Firs try a wipe, if that does not work, SBF back to stock (or stable 2.2) remove the Liberty ROM from SD and try again, just follow the instructions to the T ok.

  • FLATBED

i downloaded this rom and installed it with rom manager but i cant get past the bootscreen, i need help.

Anyone have battery issues with liberty 1.5 on a DX? Spare parts is reporting that wi-fi is just bleeding the battery.

    • Silentrunner05

Not that I am aware of…I was getting 2 days on one charge….

      • spatak

yeah, today was bad. my battery was down to 30% by lunch time. Checked facebook and twitter a few times, read an email or 2, few texts. nothing out of the ordinary with my routine.

        • I used the Liberty ROMs Application Manager to manage my memory and tasks that were running. I also had a few other app managers running too…The best one I have used so is called, Automatic Task Killer. I also set something that I was able to manage how much RAM was free..I was always in the 300mb range..Sorry I cannot remember to much, I have the Thunderbolt know and have a new set of challenges…

  • Tekno1

HELP!!! I AM STUCK AT THE LIBERTY LOGO AND IT WON’T GO ANY FURTHER! 🙁 ANY WAY TO FIX?

    • Kuboo99

I had the same problem, I think it was caused by not wiping the phone first. To quote deeteknyc “Or hold lock butto, camera and zoom down at once to start boot mgr.” I did that and then turned off the phone and turned it back on. It went to ClockWork Recovery. From there I wiped the phone and the cache and reinstalled the liberty zip. Hopefully this works for you.

  • Motoxer

Is it possible to download and install roms strait from the DX browser. I have no external internet connection. So I rooted to have free mobile wifi hotspot.

  • Kuboo99

I forgot to wipe my phone before install. Now I get stuck at the liberty boot logo. Is there any way to fix this?

    • Kuboo99

      Never mind. I fixed it.

Force reboot by holding lock button. And reinstall zip. Or hold lock butto, camera and zoom down at once to start boot mgr.

    • Fetusjerky

Holding lock and camera down doesnt do anything what are you calling the zoom button. The place where you turn the sound up

  • Deeteknyc

USB your phone to your computer. Download the zip file to the computer. Drag it to your SD card. Disconnect usb. Then find the zip on your phone with astro, etc and run.

  • Black68gtx

  • JustinmCox

I’ve just rooted my Droid 2 global and i download the bootstrap recovery but when i wiped data and installed the zip it loaded fine but it wouldn’t connect to the verizon network. any thoughts on what to do. I backed up my phone so i went back but i would like to give Liberty another shot down the road but it wouldn’t let me activate the phone saying that the airplane mode was on but it wouldn’t let me turn the airplane mode off. so i’m confused.

    • Mcneilmoe

okay. I have this problem all the time. If you made a backup in bootstrap then restore it. If you didnt make a backup in clockworkmod then try wipe. If that doesnt work then flash an sbf file

  • Mcneilmoe

Great rom! better than apex!! im glad i made a backup after i flashed it because I got that dumb no service thing so i restored my phone and the batterylife and speed is amazing

  • Myfast06

Just installed Liberty 1.5 for dx now im getting a preparing sd card message every few seconds. I can’t view pictures in my gallery as it says sd card unmounted or not present….. any ideas on how to fix? Thanks!

  • desperate_Azn_T-T

    i reflashed from liberty 1.0 to 1.5.
i wiped data/cache. installed successfully…but, i still cant install ANY of the themes…
    can anyone help?? T-T

  • Shawn Roberts

Crazy noob question: I just flashed 1.5 from running Apex 1.3.1 and so far loving Liberty. I’m not a huge fan on the yellow though (no offense) and installed the OG GB theme [black and green]. However, the notification progress bars and menu sliders are still yellow. Can I change this in the toolbox to make it compliment the rest of the theme? Am I missing something?

  • Regnarp

Man am I glade I don’t have the droid2global ….oh wait I do 🙁 one day I will make it bak to auntie am.

  • Kyfry85

So I just went through all the steps, rebooted and now it says Liberty with the Symbol on my screen…How long is this suppose to last?

    • Christian

I have that same thing on my screen, How long did it last???

  • When I click to install from SD card, it freezes on ‘Installing update….’ but does nothing else. Anyone else getting this problem?

  • Anonymous

This rom is so nice. It’s fast too

  • Tnfan2k12

This is all that and a bag of chips. My first ROM and it went as smooth as possible. I used Z4 to root, Koush Boot Recovery for backup. I am using the Watermarked theme and it is amazing. The only thing I have found that doesn’t work is “No Speed Dial” and the display doesn’t rotate when making a phone call in car dock. Do not hesitate to get this you will not be sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Holmesrr79

The only negative is a big one for me. You can’t push video through the HDMI 🙁

  • Javier

Hi, I’m very new to Android and I’ll like to know if the Droid 2 ROM can be used on D2 Global? I think it should, but I don’t want to assume things 😛

    Thanks in advance

  • Warren Peace

I’ve been wanting to run Liberty from the beginning but since it’s blur-less there is NO HDMI capabilities. My girlfriend would be a very unhappy camper if I lost the ability to bring home movies!

    • You can add blur elements back to the phone via the Liberty Tool Box, I cant speak specifically towards the HDMI capability though.

      • Warren Peace

As far as my research goes, HDMI cannot be added back. I’m sure someone will develop it tho!

        • Anonymous

I think the HDMI functionality is dependent on having the Blur gallery. I’m running apex right now so I can’t really say for sure, but if you reinstall the blur gallery (is this possible via the toolbox?) then you should be able to use HDMI out.

  • Vinzky

can i flash the thunderbold boot animation on this rom…thanks for any info.

    • Yes you can flash the thunderbolt boot animation if you have the file.

      • Vinzky

it does work and also I flashed the honeycomb boot logo and works just fine too.

  • Droidchevere

I wouldnt say all of the bugs but face it…… Way better than MOTOBLOAT!!!

  • Mehoo

I know I’m probably alone on this.. but I was running 30.04 and when i installed this and rebooted my phone i was stuck at the “Liberty” logo and all access to clockwork was gone. I had to SBF. I did everything to a T, and made sure the zip file wasn’t corrupted (because the first download was)

  • Jdjdjd

    Wont download … Why?????

  • Dan

I lost my swype keyboard after I flashed the ROM and I can’t seem to change back…is this normal for Liberty?

    • Dan

Never mind found out its installed…went to a text field, long press, input method, and selected swype.

    • RickX93277

Nope, You just have to turn it back on. Long press on the text area and it should give you the option to select input method (ie reg keyboard, swype, gingerbread keyboard)

  • Ozyman666

Made the switch and I’m loving it so far, except two issues:
    – I can now not take pictures with the stock camera. The camera indicates a picture was taken, but there is a blank in the gallery where it should be.
    – The ringtones I created and had previously used now don’t work.

Any help on either of there issues would be appreciated.

    • Ozyman666

Anybody? The pictures are writing as 0 kilobytes.

  • Dangineering

Quick question for the group…I am running FlyX 0.1 Final (as I have been since September because it is simple and stable) and I am ready to move on. I understand I’m a few versions behind, but I really want to get this ROM. What would be the best way to get there… unroot and OTA update or use leaks and other ROMs to update to where I need to be to have Liberty?

    THANKS!

    • I would say your safest bet is to unroot and OTA. But your OTA might not work if you deleted any bloatware. But if you just backed it up to another folder then I would say put it back in the APPS folder and attempt to initiate the OTA after unrooting. Truthfully I was able to OTA update with root.

There is also a flash-able zip that can return you to a stock 2.2.1(340) with no root and all bloatware.

With that though you would have to actually reactivate your phone (no biggie really)

  • Anonymous

Market is no longer showing my downloaded apps….anyone?

    • You entered in your gmail when you first got into the liberty Rom?

  • Dklinko3

Does this fix the the talk to txt

  • BrianK16

Go to the Liberty toolbox and download the blur camera and you will get the blur camera back. Awesome!

  • Skeetch79

I have never loaded ROMs on my phone before and I want to try the Liberty 1.5 ROM. I am rooted and Running stock 2.2.1 on my DX. I will use Titanium Backup to backup all my app and system data, then bootstrap recovery and boot into Clockwork Recovery. From there I know how to backup my phone, wipe data and cache and install the Liberty from the ZIP on my SD card. But if I wish to revert back to stock 2.2.1 how would I go about doing this? What is the step-wise process? Thanks!

  • Anyone had the issue of Liberty setting in your Main settings causing a FC?

    • John

      nope not yet

      • yeah if you didnt get it right off the back your good, Im gonna go completely stock, re-root, and try liberty 1.5 (a bit drastic but I just realized I deleted some bloatware and didnt back it up)

    • I went completely no root stock with maderstcok – OTA 2.3.340. zRoot-Bootstrap-Backup-Wipe. Then I flashed Liberty 1.5 and it works like a charm.

    • I went completely no root stock with maderstcok – OTA 2.3.340. zRoot-Bootstrap-Backup-Wipe. Then I flashed Liberty 1.5 and it works like a charm.

    • Grr I didn’t have this at the beginning, but then I goofed around, restored to my previous ROM and back to Liberty 1.5 and now I’m getting FC every time.

Guess I’ll try wiping it clean again…

  • Chadwick17

OMG! Why was I so hesitant to root before?!! This is amazing! First time rooting/flashing ROM ever – it was pretty simple after spending an hour or so online reading up on it. I’m never going back!

  • Dakiidalvii

when i install the rom does it delete all my contacta and stuff?

    • Make sure before you wipe you have your contacts automatically backed up to google. Should be an option in accounts. Also you may want to invest in a backup app. One that will not only back up apps but their individual settings..

  • John

in this Libery ROM, is there any way to toggle color of top right notification bar indicators? or is it always yellow?

    • antintyty

look in the tooolbox for the themes…it changes everything that is yellow.

      • John

        thx man

      • Depends on your theme

  • RonsterWVU

JRummy16, great job! 😀 The added picture previews for the theme’s, and the battery 10% ability… They are great!

  • maciquatl

Awesome rom except for camera function, it is using droid 1 template…dont like it please give us an alternate

    • Briank16

Go to the Liberty toolbox and download the blur camera and you will get the blur camera back.

    MOTOROLA SHOULD HIRE THESE GUYS!!

I’ve been talking about DARKSLIDE 4.2 ROM for Quite awhile and hope people have heard me. I think THE ULTIMATE ROM WOULD BE IF THE LIBERTY TEAM AND THE DARKSLIDE TEAM MERGE. Believe if they did… and made the ulitmate rom featuring complete functionality it would be PRO.

The biggest thing I HATE ABOUT LIBERTY IS: Notification bar, NO BATTERY %, and the Notification is yellow…. CAN WE PLEASE SEE AN OPTION TO CUSTOMIZE THE NOTIFICATION BAR? Darkslide Team+Liberty team = THE ULTIMATE ROM!

    • Djspikezz

I change my mind, just saw that Liberty even has a built in theme changer that’s PRO!! GO Liberty!! 🙂

  • fkntwizted

    Where is dlna?

  • Anonymous

Updated to 1.5… even faster. Motorola should hire these guys.

  • Went super smoothly for me – started from 1.0, wiped everything and loaded 1.5 just beautifully. Titanium is a lifesaver, too. All set up how I want it again already….this may have actually been the simplest ROM flash I’ve ever had…it booted right up without me holding my breath and corssing my fingers for five minutes, etc.

  • Flashed the ROM, apps and data restored with TB, running smooth! Thanks JRummy, Kejar and Team Liberty!!

  • Anonymous

This is the best thing I ever did to my X.

  • Wmsco51

    Wipe removes everything

    • Yes, so you will want to run a full ‘backup apps and data’ in Titanium Backup (PRO) to backup everything to SD before you go wipe the data and install the ROM.

      • Balagiwithak

    • Rdkustoms4710

You need to be on the right system version. 2.3.15 will not work.

  • Justin Hollender

Anyone know if this can be installed on a Droid 2 Global? We need some love too.

      • Tarnette

Thanks Chris, Works great now. You are the best

        • Chris Nimon

          Awesome 🙂

    • Rebith75

might be a no brainer but if you dont hit bootstrap recovery before reboot recovery it will just reboot the phone

  • SethLion

I didn’t wipe data/factory reset before I installed this rom and now im stuck in boot loop. Had the same issue with liberty 1.0 and had to use RSDLite to restore it. I already did a bat pull and i’m just watching the eagle spin around… need help please.

    • Chris Nimon

Did you try rebooting into recovery? You could then restore, then reload Liberty (after factory reset)
(When phone is powered off) Hold down the Home button and press power until the moto logo comes up. Let go of the power button but still hold the Home button until the exclamation mark comes up. Release it then hit the search button. you should now be rebooted into recovery. Then volume buttons to move and camera button to choose.

      • SethLion

Im stuck in bootloader… I tried to factory reset in recovery before but it glitched out. Could someone please post a legit sbf I keep gettin error a5

  • droiddoesftw

Will there be any problems if I download this on my mac? I always download these zip files on my pc

  • Socal_jnunez

how does this compare to Lexington 2.8

    • Djspikezz

I love Lexington 2.8 a lot! Liberty X is extremely stable and soo customizable, it’s truly as ROM as it gets without unlocking the bootloader. My latest love WAS DarkSlide4.2, but this ROM really is as extreme and awesome as it gets for DX right now! Make a back up of LEX and try it out, you won’t be disappointed!

  • Gottheguds112

Wow. I went RubiX –> TranQ –> Liberty and holy crow am I happy.

Can anyone point me to where the Liberty wallpapers are stored? I must gingermod them!

  • Does it take forever to get into the Android OS? Mine is just sitting at the Liberty Logo that spins around. Been there for like 5 min. at least.

    • Chris Nimon

      Yes, took several minutes also.

    • Chris Nimon

      Yes, took several minutes also.

    • Chris Nimon

      Yes, took several minutes also.

    • Kafka

Mine took forever, I eventually rebooted into recover and did a factory wipe, which spat me out on Liberty, but wiped.. Running smooth now.

  • Perfectparadox

Hey guys root/flashing noob here. I have had my droid x since july and have flirted with the idea of rooting and roming it. Needless to say I haven’t done either for fear of bricking the phone. Ever since liberty came out though I have been tempted more and more to take the plunge. the only thing stopping me at this point is that fact that i may lose all of my contacts during the factory wipe. so my question is, is the system back up used to restore contacts and other data once the new rom is flashed? If not is there a program that I can do this with? Thanks fellow droid-lifers

root with z4root(google it), go in android market buy droid x bootstrap(bootstrap recovery), back up with my backup root, then follow directions….always do a full back up

      • Chris Nimon

Excellent advice. z4root makes the rooting process a 1 minute, 2 touch process. Sooooo much easier than when I rooted my Droid lol And absolutely, MAKE A BACK UP 🙂

        • Anonymous

yea gott find z4root apk makes things easy!!! idk why it aint in the market nomore that sucks

          • Aaronchambers0903

Do you need to clear cache before installing liberty 1.5?

    • Chris Nimon

When you sign in with your google account it will automatically reload your contacts.

      • Irish22022

okay… a slew of advice you didn’t ask for, although it was all good. As 2 others pointed out, you need to get your contacts into google. I didn’t already have that. So I had to do it like this: using verizons backup assistant, export contacts to .vcf card. Put on desktop (computer not phone). Open up gmail, go to contacts, import that .vcf card. This will get all of your contacts into google.

I, for some reason, didn’t get any of the numbers in the number field, but instead the notes field (which you can’t dial from), so I had to copy and paste all of the numbers one by one to the phone field, it took about 5 minutes (hundreds of contacts). Other, however, didn’t have that issue and the import was complete.

Either way, once you have them in gmail, they will sync within minutes after loading a ROM, and you’ll never worry again.

To backup your apps and their data (ex. Angry Birds scores….), text messages, and settings use Titanium Backup after you have rooted w/ z4root

  • how do i get all my apps and such back on my phone after i follow your instructions to install this. I did my 1st rom installation over the weekend and was screwed because i didnt have any of my old apps i downloaded.

    • Chris Nimon

Some of the apps will reload on their own after a half hour or so but most of us use either MyBackUp Pro or Titanium to restore apps and the data we put into them.

And I thought apex was an awesome rom. But this one is sweet. I love that I can put the blur droid x keyboard back on. I feel that the blur multi touch keyboard is so quick. Anyone agree? Gosh what a great rom this is.

  • Edgar

Ran the 1.0 version and it was just awesome to use. The customizing is crazy awesome. The only caveat I’ve seen with this and other custom ROMs are the lack of HDMI support. It’s not the developers fault at all but Moto’s for not releasing their source so these geniuses can identify what makes HDMI work. Another issue I had with 1.0 was my VPN connections wouldn’t go. I wish these two items worked otherwise I wouldn’t have to run a blurry ROM so in the meantime I’m running the rubixBlurry ROM.

  • gyeagley

This ROM is amazing! Hats off to the developers for the amazing job that they are doing. Awesome……..

  • Irish22022

i mean… are there any roms even close? the toolbox alone is the best in the biz, but all the code and small details are perfect.

  • FogLock

This ROM is very nice got it earlier today. Like the toolbox and the new added features.

  • Edward Bell

It says “content not supported on this phone”? Help please!!!

    • Chris Nimon

What phone? What have you done so far?

    • Chris Nimon

Sounds like you downloaded this from your phone, if so check to see if you have Browser Downloads enabled in Astro – open Astro, click Menu button, More, Preferences, check the box for Enable Browser Downloads. (uncheck after your done if you want to view attachments in Gmail).
Could also try checking the box for allowing Unknown sources – from homescreen hit Menu, Settings, Applications, Unknown Sources

  • Edward Bell

For some reason when I go to download from the link below, it says that the page was not found….? Any help?

  • rfranken

have it up and running. very nice.
    some nice new features

  • KEchs

Thanks Kejar and Jrummy! You guys are the best!!!

  • Roberto Taylor

Is yellow the only color available on this ROM? I’m using Rubix and I love the black & green Gingerbread look.

    • Chris Nimon

there are several themes and you can easily switch between them from the toolbox. cant remember them all but I think there was a red, blue, green, and purple gingerbread themes. Watermark’d, Revoulution, and Ultimate Droid.

      • Roberto Taylor

Thanks, I may have to give this a try then…

        • Roberto Taylor

ROM is loaded. Applied the Gingerbread Green theme which made it a breeze and everything is running smoothly. Very impressed so far!

          • Pizzlewizzle504

Where did you find the green gingerbread theme?

      • Anonymous

Themes don’t change the launcher web and phone buttons from yellow though. I tend to use launcer pro, but what if one wanted to use this launcher with gingerbread theme? It is pretty nice I must say

        • Chris Nimon

I hadn’t noticed. I use custom icons w/ LP. I havn’t checked it out to see what it is but there’s something about an “Icon Chooser” in the toolbox. I wonder if that lets you change them?

  • DX links broken

+1 for the new added wallpaper!!!

  • SsjnimmaX

  • What can the DX be overclocked to?

    • Chris Nimon

I havent played with it to much but I have gotten it up to 1.3 on ultralow and it was completely stable. Uh, this just didnt sound right lol

    • Varies from device to device, but I usually run mine at a top end of about 1.4GHz. If you have a DX (or D2, G2G, D1, etc for that matter) you can figure out your max speed and minimum voltages using my app QuickClock.

  • What can Dx be oced to???

  • Miked

Love this rom!!! Only thing is there’s no speed dial for the phone. Anybody know of a way to get it back?

  • Chris Nimon

For those who want to see screenshots of the available themes, you can now view them through the included Liberty Toolbox.

Looks like great work JRummy, But i must say us OG droid owners really really miss you!!!!!

    • mtbhk44

Thank you JRummy – your ROMs are sick

    • CountChocula

hey, do you know why it says “installation unsuccessful” every time I try to download Angry birds or various other games?

      • surf02

take out your sd card n it will download… idk why but it works

  • Chris Nimon
  • Firelight

I’ve had it since early this morning: runs like a dream. What’s the testament to a really good ROM? It just works. Simple as that.

Add in the purty – the nifty features – custom battery icons and in-ROM theming – and it’s a winner for certain!

    • Yep, haven’t installed a ROM yet because I’ve been waiting for one like Liberty…it would be an injustice not to install a great ROM like that.

I’m planning on installing it this weekend as the Killzone 3 MP Open Beta just went live so will be spending time on that for awhile. But definitely looking forward to finally installing my first ROM though!

    • Agreed. Also it’s important for me to point out that I get exceptional battery life on Liberty, like none I’ve had on other ROMs for my D2.

  • Spiderman_00

Just updated to this last nite…Between this and Rubix Im having a hard time choosing which one to use.

    • Ozyman666

I’m using RubiX 1.5.0. What are the advantages of Liberty that you’ve noticed?

  • Mr Carteratl

why not post the droid 2 version? here is the link for both D2/DX……..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939595

I have version one running on my dx right now. What do I have to do to get to v1.5? can I just follow the instructions above?

    • Chris Nimon

      Yes.

  • Mth2134

    Links down?

  • Chris Nimon

    Jrummys toolbox is absolutely awesome.

  • fartbubbler

will I need to discard my beloved QuickClock?? Or can I disable the jrummy version included in 1.5?

  • For awhile now, I’ve been trying to find a decent enough ROM to finally install on my Droid X, but haven’t found one yet..that’s until I first seen Liberty ROM.

It really stands out and looks cool enough to go through the trouble of installing it.

Few questions though…when I “wipe/factory restore” my device, then install the ROM, I can restore everything, correct(yes, a stupid question, I know..)? When restoring, all apps will work with said ROM, right?

    • Anonymous

Yes. They’ll restore automatically once you sign in to your Google account (presuming you have restore enabled right now).

      • Is that right? Actually, I meant was…I would backup everything using Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery, then I would wipe data/factory reset my device, then would install the ROM and finally, restart everything..

        • Anonymous

Right. Always do a backup before installing a new rom, and especially before wiping.

          • So after doing all the steps, and once I do a restore, everything goes back to normal, except for the new ROM?

          • Anonymous

If you do a backup and then install the new rom, the new rom will boot. If you perform a restore everything will be exactly as it was when you did the backup.

          • So just to clarify, after restoring my device back to normal, the new ROM will still be there, correct?

Sorry…just new to the whole ROM scene…:)

          • Chris Nimon

Yes, because you drop the file onto your SD card it will not be erased when you do the factory reset.

          • Anonymous

No. If you restore, your phone will be how it was when you did the backup – with version 1 or whatever you have running. If you have certain apps that you want to keep the settings for (games, etc.), I’d suggest backing them up with My Backup Pro.

          • Okay…excellent.

Thanks, ronoffringa and Chris! Very helpful!

          • Anonymous

            No problem. Good luck!

Nono, Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery is to backup the entire system, in case things are pooched.

Look at Titanium Backup. You can get it from the market. Do a batch backup of your user apps. After reinstalling, just restore using Titanium. It will restore the programs and settings associated with them.

          • Ahh, okay, good to know!

All apps will still work, correct? As in…will there be app compatibility issues once I successfully install the Liberty ROM?

          • Irish22022

yeah, all apps will work fine. Rooting doesn’t change any files that are needed to run apps. The apps won’t even know that you’re rooted, if that makes sense.

I can see you’re concerned about this, and believe me, I was HUGELY concerned (just rooted last month). Don’t hesitate to hit the forums, if not here then on android central under the dx or d2 section (you can even scroll a page or two, someone inevitably will have asked for step by step instructions). Don’t use z4 root from the market, type in z4 root xda in google to get the correct apk. bootstrap first, and you’ll be fine.

        • Irish22022

nandroids wont restore the way you want. get titanium backup. the free version can backup and restore for free. you can even do batch backup and restore.

also, please, make sure you have your contacts through google.

          • Irish22022

no, its not automatic. after getting the rom, go to the market and redownload titanium backup to restore (obv, backup with titanium backup before wiping).

          • Anonymous

good point with the contacts. I lost mine the first ROM I flashed and it took hours of going back and forth with the back up to get it right.

You can actually export them to the sdcard as well, just in case you have trouble syncing them with your google account.

  • Michaeladamsgators456

i cant get adobe flash to work…. tried everything, anyone got any suggestions?

  • Anonymous

There is also a version for the Droid 2. It’d be nice if you guys made that clear for all of the D2 users.

  • mtbhk44

Oh sh*t – I JUST got finished customzing 1.0 – damn it! And YAY
