DROID X ROM: Apex 1.3.0 with Gingerbread by Fabolous

We already gave you a Gingerbread theme for the original Droid, so now it’s time to take care of the Droid X users out there looking for some Android 2.3 loveliness to take them into the weekend.  Fabolous, who’s Apex ROM has always been a top choice, has released version 1.3.0 which is based off of the new 2.3.340 DX update and has pieces of Gingerbread sprinkled all over it.  It’s a mostly-Blurless ROM, but has just enough of the good parts that we love.  Tough to beat this one.

Download:  Apex_1.3.0.zip

Instructions:

*DROID X ONLY

1.  YOU HAVE TO BE RUNNING official 2.2.1 (system 2.3.340) (2.3.320 could work too).
2.  Do I need to say it again?  YOU HAVE TO BE RUNNING official 2.2.1.
3.  You obviously have to be rooted.  (Instructions)
4.  You need to have Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery.
5.  Open the DX Bootstrap and “boostrap” the recovery.
6.  When that finishes, “reboot recovery.”
7.  Once your phone boots to Clockwork Recovery, scroll down to “backup and restore.”
8.  Choose “backup” to make a clean backup of your phone.
9.  After that choose “wipe data/factory reset” to wipe your phone.

*I was able to come from stock rooted 2.3.340 without having to wipe.

10.  When that finishes choose “install zip from SD card.”
11.  Then “choose zip from SD card” and find the Apex_1.3.0.zip, select it and hit “yes.”
12.  Your phone will apply the ROM. When it finishes, reboot and enjoy!

  • vic

Verizon backup assistant isn't working after flashing with this ROM. Basically backup assistant is installed but cannot pull down contacts. I believe its because its not added as an account. I tried to add it but the option isn't there like other ROMs. Any ideas as how to fix this?

  • Tombo890

After applying this ROM I have not been able to play music. I tried the stock player as well as mixZing and pandora will not load music either. It will load the album cover then give an error and exit. Can someone please help me with this?
    Thanks

  • Drew

anyone know the wallpaper in the pic?

Official as in not manually updated from this site official?

  • HowDoIShotWeb

This is my first DX rom and I have to say that this is the most awesome rom of all the roms I've ever had (OG included)

  • Jacob

When I downloaded the Droid X Bootstrap from the market, I opened it and clicked on the first one such as you, Kellex, said. However, when it said done, I then clicked on the second one, also as you said, but nothing happened. I'm definitely a noob, and haven't found anything when I looked for it in the forum. Help is much appreciated!

  • Davidukfl

First time installing an actual full ROM and went with this. It's absolutely brilliant. Close to flawless, the only bugs it has are almost not worth mentioning.
Also noticed a massive increase in battery life

  • http://twitter.com/musicandnumbers Marlena Cahill

Anyone know where I can get my hands on the polka-dot wallpaper?

  • Towelie420

Been using this rom a couple days now and it is so awesome

  • http://www.facebook.com/Big.Daddy.Nathan Nathanael Carrier

also for all the D2 people out there, there is this Rom (with other options) for D2 in Rom Manager. I downloaded it and wipe data and so far it is working pretty good. did not put a theme over this just the way it came. just to let you all know. I have the rooted R2D2 Edition and like i said it seem to be working good.

  • Lakerzz

    The-best-rom-ever…thanks Fab…you did it again…

(I must admit that I was kind of worried of the “fly in” effects of different transitions, but it doesn't slow it down at all. My eyes are gobbling up all this eye candy, and loving it. Definitely donating again…)

    • Towelie420

I feel like im getting over the fly-in flips in some areas like for example, the new market app. But then on other things like for example droidx overclock, the little flipping popups look so sweet. What to do

  • Retrn2rapture

This is by far the best rom I have put on my X!!! Just the right amount of blur and runs fast!!! Great job fab!!

  • Higher_Ground

Wow good bye phone numbers… any idea on how to get them back?

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Stupid question but did you back up your contacts to google before you hooked up the new ROM? If you did then they should sync back up when you set up your google email on the phone.. Otherwise you may have to return to your back up of your original ROM

      • Higher_Ground

Thanks, I ended going back and sure enough they hadn't been synced in quite a while. I'm going back to apex and will see if it syncs back up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.alfonso Kyle Alfonso

The keyboard seems a lot smaller than the normal droid x keyboard. My only issue with it.

  • Left4deadinvegas

it eats the battery like crazy

    • Lakerzz

I was thiking just the opposite…

  • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

    Just missing voice mail..

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000219095779 Tony Thompson

    CAUTION!
I bricked my DX attempting this.

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

      Yes

anyone else notice an inability to use custom ringtones? all of the stock ones work fine but any that i have downloaded dont work…?

    • DROIDMANX

Download whoisit from the market allows for custom ringtones u have downloaded

    • -=SPUG=-

Has anyone else found a fix for this?

    • -=SPUG=-

Has anyone else found a fix for this?

  • DROIDMANX

YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE YOUR VOICEMAIL IS MISSING BEFORE INSTALLING USE TITANIUM BACK UP SO U CAN RESTORE YOUR VOICEMAIL APP

  • DROIDMANX

**DROIDMANX** IF U ACCIDENTLY DRAG AN APP TO THE APP DRAW IT TO REMOVE AN APP IT WILL REPLACE THE APP DRAW GI TO MARKET AND OPEN BOOTSTRAP AND BOOT INTO RECOVERY TO REINSTALL ZIP *TO REMOVE AN APP DRAG TO THE TOP OF THE HOMESCREEN INSTEAD OF USING THE APP DRAW/GARBAGE TO REMOVE*

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Dude just create a new short cut (ie short cut for APP DRAWER activity) and drag it down.. Also stop yelling at us..

      • DROIDMANX

Lol my fault bro I always type in caps from all my posts until now I didn't know I was yelling indirectly I was actually giving advice sir.

        • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Either way, I did the same thing as you and you simply have to create a short cut to to an activity which is “App Drawer” then once the shortcut is created drag it down into the dock to replace

  • Higher_Ground

Having some trouble waking the screen while using winamp – had to battery pull 2x

  • NeoTheOne

Where can I get that wallpaper and that clock widget from?

    • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

Clock is clockr on the market

      • NeoTheOne

Cool, can you post the wallpaper? It looks like its from flikie, but that app no longer works.

        • http://twitter.com/pcriz Perry Meg

I dont have the wallpaper myself, I didnt even try to find it on the market cuz if it costs I can't pay for it till I get my darned new check card…

          • NeoTheOne

Ah, ok. Yeah, there is no charge for it, but the app where everyone gets that wallpaper from no longer works.

  • Mike

Is there an installing custom roms class for dummies? Seems like I'm not the only newbie seeking help. Basically looking for the 101 class that explains the basics.

    • Cgmartin33

Mike don't feel bad…I've been doing this since the beginning and I still have to second guess myself.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000219095779 Tony Thompson

Would you like me to explain everything?

    • http://www.facebook.com/Big.Daddy.Nathan Nathanael Carrier

      it is all right here.

    • Mike

Well I'm rooted and understand the general idea of a custom rom. I'd like to try some and basically want to know any ramifications like losing pictures contacts apps etc. Or can I go back to sq one with a backup if I screw up? The whole wipe data and reset part of the install is what worries me. Thanks

      • Anonymous

When you make a backup of your phone it pretty much takes a picture of it.. your phone will be EXACTLY like it was when you made a backup when you restore it. pictures, apps, messages, it will all be there except, obviously, things saved on your SD card

    • Anonymous

      http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/91760-droid-2-hacking-rom-install-class.html

Here you go! Even though it says Droid 2 it will give you everything you need to know even if you have the X. Check it out!

  • jerlinxit

    Just wow! Donating…

Didn't wipe from 2.2.1… working great, super fast!

  • Chris

What happens if I do the software update while rooted in the old apex rom?
