google earth for 2.0.1 and non-rooted users

wasn’t that nice of google to release google earth yesterday to all 2.1 users? all i have to say is, “nice try big g.” this is android we’re talking about remember? did you really think that this community of android machines and amazing developers would not conquer all? well it has. again!

instructions for installation…

1. go into settings -> applications and check the “unknown sources” box.
2. make sure you have “astro file manager” installed on your phone.
2. visit this post from your phone’s browser.
3. tap and download this file onto your phone: google_earth.apk (alt link) (alt link2)
4. when finished downloading, open up astro file manager.
5. find your “downloads” folder and and tap the “google earth” file.
6. tap “open app manger” and then “install”.
7. bam.

Followed instructions and installed with Astro, but nothing happens when I click the Earth icon.

i have the motorola Devour, got the astro app. followed directions, and when i try to install the app, i get the message : Application not installed- earth could not be installed on this phone.

Please help!

No issues on Moto Milestone! I was surprised that the file was a mere 5.7 mb whereas the file for android 2.1 is said to be more than twenty. Super good work, many thanks!

hey kellex thanks for the reply, so far ive tried android native install option "didnt work" andexplorer file explorer "didnt work" and as for astro file manager i could even find an option to install a file…….so still no googearth for me :'(

If bandwidth has been reached, use one of the "alt links" next to the main one.

Why do you need to use the Astro File Manager? It installed fine on my unrooted Droid without it.. :/

Installed fine and works great on my Droid. When looding at the Settings screen I clicked on Terms of Service it asked form my Country/Region and then i downloaded a new file of the same size as the first but instead of being named google_earth.apk it's named google_earth-1.apk. I did not know what is was so I did not open it. Any idea?
