#TBT: Google Unveils Kit Kat, Googler Accidentally Leaks Nexus 5

Back in September of 2013, the Android community was bracing itself for the next Nexus smartphone. Funny enough, during the unveiling of Android 4.4 “Kit Kat” at Google HQ, a Googler (an employee of Google) accidentally revealed Google’s upcoming smartphone. Whoops!

In a video clip which was centered around the new Kit Kat statue, all attention was on the mysterious “Nexus” smartphone this certain gentleman was holding. Naturally, every tech site on Earth posted about it, with Google quickly pulling the clip. Was the clip posted on purpose, maybe to get the hypetrain rolling? Anything’s possible. (more…)

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S3 Gets Kit Kat Update Today, Galaxy S4 Mini Too

Today, is apparently Samsung Kit Kat update day for a couple of carriers. Joining Sprint, Verizon has now approved Android 4.4.2 updates for both the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 mini.

Both updates bring that Kit Kat fire, which includes a revamped lock screen, restyled notification areas, expanded emoji support, wireless printing, default SMS chooser, and Samsung KNOX 2.0. Isis Wallet is also now pre-loaded on the Galaxy S3 and a bunch of bugs have hopefully been squashed for both phones.

Sprints’ Galaxy S4 Mini Also Receiving Kit Kat Today

Sprint’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is joining the Galaxy Mega today at the Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat” party. According to both Sprint and Samsung, the device is due for the update, as build L520VPUABNE3.

The update, like all of the other Samsung updates that have been released over the last couple of months, introduces an updated lock screen, default SMS chooser, restyled notification bar, expanded emoji support, wireless printing, and more. (more…)

Sprint’s Galaxy Mega Gets Updated to Android 4.4.2

Samsung’s Galaxy Mega on Sprint is the latest device to receive Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat,” software version L600VPUANE4. AT&T’s was the first Mega variant to see the love, but Sprint has been leading the charge for the most part when it comes to Kit Kat and Samsung devices. The fact that they were a step slow on a device that is probably a little lower on the importance meter is OK.

Sprint didn’t list a changelog, but they are all the same for Samsung devices at this point. The changelog from AT&T’s Mega update will probably give us a pretty good feel for it. (more…)

AT&T’s Galaxy S3 is Getting Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat” Today

According to Samsung, the Galaxy S3 on AT&T is receiving its update to Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat” starting today as build I747UCUFNE4.

The update is quite large, bringing with it a restyled lock screen with new media controls and camera shortcut, updated notification bar, Beats Music, expanded emoji support, wireless printing, Bluetooth enhancements, Immersive mode, and all sorts of other little goodies. (more…)

Verizon’s Kit Kat Update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is Live

Yesterday, Verizon approved the Android 4.4 “Kit Kat” update for its variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Today, that update has gone live and is available for download.

The update is build VRUFND7 and jumps the phone up to Android 4.4.2. It includes Samsung KNOX 2.0, restyled notification bar, the option to choose a default SMS app, emoji, a new keyboard, and all sorts of bug fixes. You can see the full details here. (more…)

Did Google Really Tease Android 5.0 in These Screenshots?

The screenshots including above may look like Google is sharing info on how you can keep up with the World Cup through Google Now. And you know what? They are. But, there is something else that the hypebeasts in the building will have a field day with, and that’s the clock. What does “5:00” in a series of screenshots have to do with anything? Verizon Galaxy Note 2 Gets Kit Kat!

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on Verizon is receiving Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2)! If you can believe it, after the extremely long waiting period that plagued the VZW Note 3’s Kit Kat, today’s update actually brings the 4.4 love to Verizon’s Note 2 before both AT&T and T-Mobile variants.

The update adds support for Samsung KNOX 2.0, which includes features like Dual Persona, real time kernel protection, VPN framework, and a universal MDM client. (more…)
