Google is preparing an update for their search app on Android that should make life much easier for those of us that rely so much on it. They posted the news in a blog post just minutes ago, but have for some reason pulled it. Thanks to our trusty feed reader and Mr. Alfonso who told us weeks ago that this new search that was coming, we have all of the dirty details on it. You can see the new look for search results above, along with the bullet points from Google below:
- Suggestions grouped by type, with web suggestions at the top.
- Country-specific suggestions and search results for all countries with Google domains.
- Long press to remove history items.
- Faster, smoother performance, with an updated and simplified user interface.
And a few other tips for this new Search:
- Tap the arrow to the right of a search suggestion or history item to edit it before searching.
- Get suggestions from other apps on your phone – check out searchable items in Search settings.
- Long press on homescreen to add the Google Search widget if you don’t have it already.
Hopefully they will publish the post again soon and also prep the update for launch. Once it goes live, it should be available to all phones running Android 2.2 and higher.
Cheers Pete!

Wow. This is super snazzy looking. I know it’s only a search app, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.
I paid $22.85 for an iPhone 4-32GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com
Did they get rid of that worthless search widget, yet? Whhhhhhhy would anybody waste 4×1 on their homescreen for a text box that is literally impossible to type text into?
The search widget is useless when we already have a search button.
I want apps at the top, my primary way of opening an app I haven’t used in awhile and don’t have a shortcut for it.
Nice, haven’t seen an update for this app in a while.
Geez Kellex, Droid-Life must be doing real good if your searching for your own hovercraft 😉
Just realized how little do I use the Google Search app, widget, or button.
wow. i’d be lost w/o the button. if you hold it down, its powers are endless.
Wow I’ve never done that

^explains what all you can do with it
My google app search always crashes on me. 🙁
YESSS!!
We need theme support for the widget 😉
Also, let us see how the widget looks on the home screen!
Hopefully the widget is black. Currently hate the white one.
There are themed ones and in the market I believe
They really need to update the UI on Google voice.
+1
see what i did there? 😉

Anybody notice “R” in the status bar? What is it supposed to be, Googles secret wireless internet method?
R for Roaming, perhaps?
it means Roaming…
Ah. *slaps forehead*
*slaps your forehead with a bat*
Roaming?
Downloaded and it force closes every time I try and search. Nice.
Hows the new “grouping”?
I like the way they are reworking the new UI’s of their programs.
I want this. Right now. I hate how Droid Life teases us. :p
Finally shedding the Froyo look
