After yesterday’s Google Pixel 8 Pro reveal in render form, you knew the Pixel 8 couldn’t be far behind. And here we are. The Pixel 8, also in render form, is here to show design changes over the Pixel 7 and leave us wondering what Google can improve upon.
Like the Pixel 8 Pro, Google is apparently going with a rounder set of corners on the Pixel 8, according to @onleaks who created the imagery here. The overall size of the phone might not change much from the Pixel 7, but that roundness is evident if you look at the image above and then compare it to this shot of the Pixel 7. It’s not a huge adjustment, but does look a bit bubblier or like it could be gentler on the hand.
There aren’t many other details in this render reveal, but the display is supposed to weigh in at 6.2″. That’s a small drop from the 6.3″ display in the Pixel 7. I think there was an early morning mistake that suggested it might be as small as 5.8″, but that error has been corrected.
On the back of the Pixel 8, we still have that metal camera bar with dual camera setup. Google still isn’t willing to give us the telephoto lens of the Pro version nor are they giving us whatever that weird sensor was in the Pixel 8 Pro renders.
Overall dimensions are 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9mm for the Pixel 8. You can compare that to 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7mm in the Pixel 7. I guess it is a good chunk smaller even if the display isn’t. That’s great news.
Google is expected to use its Tensor 3 chip in the Pixel 8 series and potentially change up the camera setup, but that’s all mostly speculation. While these designs are now out in the wild, the rest of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro story remains a mystery. I kind of like it that way.
Will we see these on the tease at Google I/O in a couple of months? Sure, why not.

love this new design, me and my boyfriend steve love playing with pixel phones together 🙂
I hate how better features = bigger phone. I’m okay with the slight size up from the 5 on the regular 8 but I’d love to have that telephoto lens. Come on Google!
This! Samsung does the same thing just for the flagship models the same specs but different sizes/battery smh
It looks more rounded to me
The rumored dimensions are smaller than the Pixel 6a which feels great in the hand.
I’m glad there is a more distinct size different between the two devices next year. I’ve love to see a Pro (Ultra?) version of the 8 in the smaller footprint (my hands just aren’t big enough for the normal Pro size) but I’ll take what I can get.
It’s crazy to me how so many people complained about wanting Google to make a smaller Pixel again, then they finally do and they complain it doesn’t have the periscope zoom of the larger phone. Look at the teardowns of the Pixel 7 Pro to see the size of this sensor, there was no way they could have shrunk the non-Pro this much and found room to add it. I just hope that these slimmer bezels mean Google is finally doing away with the terrible rigid OLED panel from the Pixel 6/7 and moving to a superior LTPO flexible OLED panel.
Also, while it might only be 2X don’t underestimate how good the 2X crop in zoom is on the Pixel 7 series. At least for me, I’d rather have a lossless 2X zoom from the primary sensor than a 3X zoom using a much inferior sensor.
Looks beautiful and I figured Google would keep the periscope lens for its bigger brother.
nice to see they going a tad smaller for easier handling
Looks nice. But one thing I really miss from the 7Pro is the 5x telephoto. Not sure I’ll ever go back to a phone without a telephoto even though I want a smaller phone. Currently on the baby S23
Same here. And this brightness and kinda small phone is almost perfect! Missing the call screening and spam blocking features a lot
Yea I didn’t think it’d miss the Googly features but I do. Especially being able to copy text from the Recent Apps View.
Yes! That is the easiest was to copy text in a lot of different scenarios.
Bixby call screening is a baby step in the right direction , I do miss the better copy paste feature though
