Over the last few months, we learned Samsung was readying a new DeX product, one that could turn your smartphone, namely the upcoming Galaxy S9, into a touchpad for whatever monitor you have hooked up to the dock. Thanks to @evleaks, we’re now getting our first good look at the DeX Pad, along with another look at what appears to be the Galaxy S9.
As we can see, the phone sits in the dock flat, with a USB Type-C port on the bottom, plus ports on the top side of the dock. We see ports for power, a full size HDMI port, plus two standard size USB ports.
If you are unfamiliar with the original Samsung DeX dock, you’d hook your phone up to the dock, plug a desktop monitor into the dock, then you essentially have a desktop version of Android ready to go. Of course, you’d also need a mouse to interact with the UI, but with DeX Pad, your phone will act as the touchpad, allowing you to eliminate the need for a mouse.
Pretty clever, Samsung.
Maybe more importantly, we can at least rest easy and say that the Galaxy S9 will indeed sport a 3.5mm headphone jack, according to this image at least.
Expect the DeX Pad to be announced alongside the Galaxy S9 later this month.

“Pretty clever, Samsung.”
What’s so clever about it? Stealing the idea from Huawei last year’s phone?
I swore I wasn’t going back to samsung after the S7 because I just couldn’t take the software anymore and I don’t care about the dock. But I have to admit I’m kind of liking the look of this phone. Just don’t know if I can do sammy again. If HTC, LG, Moto all drop the ball and have something uninspiring, I may have to go back. LG pretty much already waved the white flag anyway. And if there is one thing that drives me crazy on my G6 is the headphone jack being on the top instead of on the bottom and its in the right place here.
Long live 3.5mm
Working on using the Dex with Note 8 for officers in car using Horizon Client as a proof of concept.. It looks promising so far..
So still not serious about it. I’ve been hoping they’d do a laptop dock or at least something similar to Asus’ Padfone tablet dock.
1. Make it adjustable so all their phones and future phones fit in one universal unit.
2. Make it a tablet with magnetic keyboard or at least have it so the keyboard can be flipped back and it could be used like a tablet.
3. Profit!
So speaker on the top front of the phone and speaker at the bottom to make the stereo sound?
That’s the rumor…of course that was also a rumor before the S8 and Note 8 came around and we all know what happened there.
I can already tell by this picture Samsung’s still not ready to address the finer details in their design like misaligned ports. Nice to see the headjack there doe.
