I’ve only had to find a notary once or twice in my life, but each time, it felt like such a hassle. I was younger and the process of finding a random person to watch me sign a document and then pay them for doing so felt like a very odd thing. Regardless, it’s something that needs to be done from to time, and I’m happy to report that a newly launched app for Android, called Notarize, should make the process extremely simplistic.
The way it works is pretty straightforward. You create an account on the app, upload or scan your documents, edit and annotate the documents, validate your identity through the app, connect with a live notary with video, pay for the service, then download your legally notarized documents.
See, there’s no going anywhere or meeting anyone. It’s painless.
For pricing, Notarize charges a fee starting at $25 for documents, with additional seals costing $7 a pop. Most documents should only need one seal, though. Considering the convenience of not having to leave the house, $25 is solid for a notary.
The app is usable in all 50 US states, so if you think this app could help you out, follow the Google Play link below.

Nice idea but I will stick with my 5 dollar or whatever it is fee
I agree that you should be able to find a Notary for free everywhere. But, I think the premise behind this app is for the “emergency” situations. My kids ride dirt bikes, they want to bring their friends without their parents. Their parents have to sign a waiver and have it notarized before the track will let them ride. We usually think of this at 7pm the night before we ride, or on a Sunday morning. This app would all for “after-hours” notarization.
UPS store charges $5 and there’s one right around the corner from my house. Can’t justify $25.
In California, The Secretary of State states that you can charge a Maximum of $15 per signature. This app violates the law in California.
Also, the purpose of Notarizing a Document, be it Real Estate or any other legal document or child travel consent letter is that You Personally Appeared before the Notary Public so he/she can witness your signature in PERSON! This app does it by video
Don’t most people know you can just go to your bank and get anything notarized for free in most cases? I don’t think I’ve ever paid to get a document notarized.
At some banks you don’t even have to be a member to have it done for free. I randomly walked into a M&T bank last summer and expected to pay and they just did it, I said thank you and walked out.
its free or paid?
It was free.
Thanks
Gotta love that photo with the Samsung Galaxy (S6?) rocking the on screen buttons!
S5, not 6.
Lol. Dude, notary is $5 at any state office, tag office. Free at your bank. Why would u go through all the trouble setting up and pay 25 for this? Especially considering this is a once every year or two type thing.
I was a little surprised at the cost as well but I’m guessing it is just purely on the convenience of it. That said, a lot of banks have stopped offering notary services because of liability etc. (Just found this out this week when I tried to go in to get something notarized for the first time in 2-3 years.) I’m in a fairly small town and ended up going to the local UPS store which did it for $15, hence why I was expecting this app to be around $10.
Yeah I went to UPS last time and it was I think $10 before taxes. Just a waste
$10 USD? totally waste.
I’m all down for people using what’s best for them. The closest notary to me charges $30 and I’m not going downtown (total pain in the butt), even if they’re $5. Gotta pay for that convenience!
In California, we can only charge $15 per the Secretary of State.
I work for a bank, free service. If not free to you, find a new bank! I agree, for some this may be great and I like innovation, just check your bank first and save some green.
