Reports initially suggested that Google would hold its Pixel 2 event on October 5, but according to the picture of a billboard in Boston that was just sent to us, they may double down and do it again on October 4. The billboard (pictured above), tells us to “Ask more of your phone,” followed by the “G” logo from Google and an “Oct. 4” date.
Of course, the billboard could mean something else, but the timing certainly matches up well to an expected Q4 Google product event. And again, last year’s Pixel event took place on October 4, so this would make a lot of sense. The billboard is also talking about asking more of your phone, rather than promoting a special Boston-specific Google event of some sort.
We’ve reached out to Google for confirmation on October 4 being the correct date for their next big event and will update this post if we hear back.
UPDATE: Google confirmed the date this morning.
Cheers Brian!

On Oct 4 I’ll be in my “hot tub, sipping bubbly!”
Please google just have a phone that will destroy I Phone clowns!!
If that’s your #1 request from a device then you’re part of the problem.
So does Google’s video! 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etmUU1bs41s
Not interested until HTC builds the big Pixel again. Perhaps Pixel 3 XL.
What time? Will I be stuck at work where I have no mobile signal or WiFi so I won’t be able to order? Then it’ll be out of stock until after Christmas. Well that nonsense would send me straight over to Apple with the iPhone 8.
No word that orders will take place then.
I’ll ask more of my phone, like for it to have a headphone jack
Google sure knows how to save a buck on advertising. Make the event the same date and use the same billboards posters from last year.
Any chances this picture is from last year? What’s the exact location of this billboard, so I can confirm? They do advertise Google product here. Allo has been advertised all over the green line for que some time now.
Took this photo today, at the intersection of Stuart & Arlington in downtown Boston.
Great. Thanks! Then let’s wait until that date comes and see if the Pixel 2 is worth it, otherwise I’ll stay with my Pixel XL for another year.
That’s Back Bay, not Downtown!
Meh, I gave the intersection… close enough. Not from here – just in town for a conference
I’ll ask more of my phone, like dual cameras, wireless charging, better battery life and better price. Will you be able to do that google?
Hint: they won’t answer you until October 4.
It’s to announce that Allo finally supports full SMS fallback. That would definitely allow us to do more.
:-
Clearly this means they’re broadcasting the event from Tokyo, Japan on October 5th which will be October 4th in Boston at that time because obviously they’re announcing a third mystery pixel made by Sony (inspired off the XZ1).

“Ask more of your phone” I take this as another push for Assistant. Greeaaaat.
Finally! Got the date circled. I’m ready for this beast.
Good! I am tired of hearing about the iPhone X! I am ready for this phone. I hope they make it available for preorder the same day and available for purchase within 10 days of the announcement.
But… But facial recognition and wireless charging…. EMOJIIIISSSS!!!
any idea if google will give out free daydream headsets or anything else at launch, they seem to have done this every year, give out some freebies with the new phones. When I got my 5X, I got $50 in google play credit.
I’ll be happy if they continue with what they started last year, and give Pixel 2 buyers free full-res picture/video storage.
so OCT. 5 is pretty much the time I can upgrade my Nexus 5X. It has been good to me for a long time, but it’s time to upgrade

I cant wait to ditch my Moto X Pure and jump to a Pixel2!
In before the “ask more from your phone like a headphone jack maybe lol” comments. ????

Good find. I’m excited!
Take my Bitcoins!!!
My wallet is ready!
Pixel stock will not be ready 😛
That’s the true issue we’re approaching
I’ve never had a problem ordering on day one before, so i don’t anticipate one next month, either.
Maybe it will be better this time since they are splitting the manufacturing between 2 companies. We’ll see.
You know, I never even looked at it that way, but that could very well be a big reason for the split.
Mine is not!
Maybe for a refurbished Pixel XL it is.
Fine by me. For the most part I’ve got no problem with paying flagship prices, though once a phone gets close to $1000 I’ll start to think twice. I mean, it’s still just a phone, and a $1k pricetag is pretty ridiculous.
Do you know how much research and tech goes into Animojis? And how much money is being shelled out to Samsung for “Super Retina” displays?!
Assistant – you mean your advertising ID assembler?
Pixel by Google (HTC) = pay twice:
ONCE: for a phone
ALWAYS: with your privacy/watching advertising
Google’s phones should be FREE.

Selling data to advertisers makes the experience free, no the phone.
And yet here you are… tin foil hat and all!
