The latest foldable devices from Samsung are now official, after what feels like eons of teasers and leaks. We now have the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
As you will notice, we have the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is a completely new form factor from Samsung. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is very similar to last year’s Z Fold 7, but now with the Ultra tag. Then, of course, the Z Flip 8 which continues its modest year-to-year changes.
Galaxy Z Fold 8: Samsung says it wants to have a foldable for everyone. The Z Fold 8 is for content consumers, with an aspect ratio (4:3 when unfolded) that is perfect for watching videos and capturing your own content. It sports a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with an adaptive refresh rate of up 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. The cover display measures in at 5.5-inches. It is Samsung’s lightest Fold, coming it at just 201 grams, while still providing a 4,800mAh battery with improved charging speeds. Samsung bumped speeds up to 45W when wired and 20W when wireless.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: This year, Samsung took its already incredibly thin Z Fold from last year and somehow made it thinner, while also easier to use. It slimmed down the outside bezels, making it easier to get a finger between the two displays to unfold the device. I can confirm after a brief hands on, it’s awesome. It features an 8-inch main display with the same screen specs as the Z Fold 8 and 6.5-inch cover display. Battery size is listed at 5,000mAh, with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging.
One of the main differences between the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra is the 200MP shooter on the backside. Samsung highlights that HDR capability is now available when shooting in 200MP mode, plus the ultra wide camera has been bumped up to 50MP. Improved Nightography is on board, allowing for brighter videos when shot in dark environments. 8K video recording through the new APV codec is also available, while Cine LUT brings cinematic color and tone control directly to your mobile phone.
Both Z Fold 8 models for 2026 sport the new Titanium Flex components, which essentially eliminate the dreaded indentation and glare found on previous generations of Fold devices. Other shared specs include the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset and a base of 12GB RAM. Full specifications can be viewed below.
Galaxy Z Flip 8: As I said earlier, the Z Fold 8 received more modest changes. It did not receive the new Titanium Flex treatment, which is unfortunate, but it did get a more useable cover screen compared to past iterations. Samsung is investing heavily into its Now Nudge AI thing, which will help users get tasks done more quickly while also being somewhat automatic.
For specs, it features a 6.9-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 4.1-inch cover display (also tops at 120Hz), dual camera system (50MP wide + 12MP ultra wide), Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, 12GB RAM, and 4,300mAh battery. Again, full specs can be viewed below.
Software (One UI 9) Changes: Each of the new Galaxy foldables ships with Android 17 (One UI 9), along with a few fresh touches. Samsung says that Now Brief will now surface security and privacy insights, while Gemini Intelligence and Gemini Notebook ship on the devices. Gemini Intelligence was highlighted by Google earlier this year. It can utilize apps/services on your phone to order you food or transportation. It currently works across 40+ apps and services, with plenty more to come.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 is priced at $1,899 and comes in Lavender, Cream, Graphite, or Pistachio (online exclusive). Galaxy Z Flip 8 is priced at $1,199 and can be purchased in either Pink, Cream, Graphite, or Mint (online exclusive).

If you want to hear my take on the new lineup, the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 is bae. Previous renders did not do it justice. It feels fantastic in hand, plus the new aspect ratio when open is so sweet for consuming YouTube videos. This will be my next and my daily driver for the foreseeable future.
