ZTE Axon 7 Now Up for Pre-Order in the US at $399

zte axon 7

The ZTE Axon 7, the latest affordable flagship from the Chinese manufacturer, is now available for pre-order in the US at a variety of retailers. With a starting price of $399, you certainly get a lot of bang for your buck here.

As a recap, the Axon 7 was announced back in May with a somewhat mysterious launch time frame here in the States. It made headlines because not only did it offer a bunch of great specs at what we assumed would be an affordable price, but ZTE also made sure we knew that it was one of the first Daydream-ready phones.

In terms of specs, the Axon 7 basically has it all. You get a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 20MP f/1.8 rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), 8MP f/2.2 front camera, 3250mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, USB Type-C port, dual speaker setup with a dual Hi-Fi chipset (Dolby Atmos surround sound), and a fingerprint reader. As for storage and RAM, ZTE is releasing two models, but the US is getting the version with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage with a microSD slot.

The phone should work fine on GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile.

While the pre-order is open today, the phone won’t ship until July 27.

I love this phone. Looks legit but I’m gona wait for the note 7 and the nexus phones to see what they bring on the table before jumping to grab this one. On paper this phone is brilliant especially the audio system.

Better than the One Plus 3?

This is what I’m trying to quantify. From what little I’ve read, the OnePlus 3 edges this out a little bit. I’m a sucker for the front-facing stereo speakers, though, so I ordered this.

Is there any way to get a good case for one of these? I doubt Otterbox will make one.

How bad is ZTE about updating their phones? Are their custom skins alright?

Why can’t they make just ONE model? Unless you’re an android geek and know the difference between RAM AND GB, you confuse the crap out of the avg consumer.

Already pre-ordered mine. Perfect size, specs, B12, and good front speakers (a must for me). Too bad I have to wait until late August for the grey.

I was going to wait for the grey version but just got the gold. Whatever i guess.

I did the same thing. It sucks to have to wait, but I’ve been doing so this long. I guess I’ll have to suffer through my HTC One M8 a little longer…

I’m so glad there is still someone who is putting front facing speakers in their phone after moto, HTC and Google gave up.

Those are some awesome specs. Would like to see a camera review since that is what the affordable phones usually fall short of. Oh & still no Zenfone 3 post. Is it because there no US availability yet?

Why, oh why can this not be a Nexus phone running stock Android, with the same battery capacity as my 6P (or higher)? I would sell it in a heartbeat, just to experience the killer audio on this phone in person. I would then be set for the next 3 years. :/

With the minimal bezels, it’s really not much bigger than a 5.2 inch screen phone.

How do you know this?? I hope you’re right. I havent been able to find any specs in regards to how tall or how wide the phone is…

hoping for a 2016 nexus similar in size to lg g2, moto x 2014, or s7. 5x was lacking in specs and battery was too small.

As usual, unfortunately it is not supported by Verizon. I just finished a chat session with someone from ZTE and he has no ETA or even IF it will be supported.

Also for clarity, the 7/27 ship date is only for the gold – if you want the grey, it’s 8/17.

In regards to software, people will be able to choose between running stock Android or ZTE’s skinned version.

Ended up being false info from my end. I heard it being talked about and even cnet mentioned it in one of their videos. I barely did some fact checking and found this https://community.zteusa.com/message/13946. No wonder I spent a few years away from cnet. Never again.

So it’s pretty much just a choice between launchers they were hyping up.

ah…stink. No worries. I wonder what the developer support will be. I usually just stick with stock but been on a CM13 flashing craze with my N6. Plus once N finally drops, I’ll go directly to that.

What did the original comment say? Should have just edited it to say “never mind” so this thread isn’t useless/confusing now.

That link doesn’t give any context either, just prompts me to register/log into ZTE’s site.

I stated that people would have the option of choosing between stock Android and ZTE’s skin. I did do an edit to the original post, but decide to just delete it.

It has the hardware to support it, but ZTE will be holding a webinar later today and they plan on clarifying Verizon compatibility. If it doesnt support it officially, it could be like the unlocked HTC 10, which has the necessary radios, but doesn’t connect to Verizon.

Do any of these phones have the USB Type-C 3.1 port, or are they all still putting in the 2.0?

It’s funny how no one mentions the USB version number when the phone has Type C.
