  • Am I the only one here that thinks this, or don’t u think that since its the year 2015, that all carriers should offer bootloader unlocking for a nominal fee? There arent that many people that would do it, in comparison to people who dont modify. Plus, they’d get extra money. People end up rooting, bootloader unlocking, or switching phones, so that they can do what they need to regardless…sooo…verizon…get with it!

  • Personally, I had the Turbo and N6 side by side, in the same lighting conditions. Taking the same picture on both, there was not a visible enough inprovement with OIS to justify using a phone that was physically uncomfortable to hold and losing precious battery. The new update for the Turbo could have the Bootloader unlock checkbox enabled in developer settings, and it would be easier as it is already written in to N6 software. i encourage all of you that are happy to see root to new mission? convince carriers to tell Moto to allow bootloader unlock. off contract, there is no justifiable argument #unlockthedroids

  • FINALLY! dont want the g3 dont want the n6. sure as hell want the turbo now!

so this would be good new for moto x 2014?

  • I remember when I was torn between a turbo and N6… And now the N6 looks like a no brainer

  • This just in, Lollipop will soon be coming to the Turbo to patch whatever exploit was used.

  • Not sure why people buy a locked down phone and wait months just for root when they can buy Nexus and have full freedom to root and unlock boot loader right away.

    • Verizon is the reason. Until the N6 we didn’t have a Nexus since Galaxy Nexus that got service on VZW. And for some of us, we have to have Verizon to even have a signal. In Flagstaff Arizona if you have Verizon you have service everywhere. If you don’t you have service in a very small area in down town and nothing else. With Verizon you can be in the middle of the forest 50 miles from town and have service.

      • If i remember correctly both N6 and Turbo released around same time, you could have bought N6 from Moto/Play and use on Verizon.

        • Not everyone had & 700 to buy an off contract N6. Especially when best buy was selling the Turbo for a dollar on contract.

    • because battery life, screen size, and moto voice.

and because there is no such thing as unexploitable. But really if they had a Turbo developer version I would’ve bought it instead :p

  • Can’t we just all advocate for phones to be just like computers. Could you imagine if Comcast said sorry, your computer has to be boot loader locked to use our service… If only, sigh……

    • Yes. Although it isn’t as common as before, there are still nice things that can be had with root. I still like having Xposed with Gravity Box on my rooted devices.

      • Yup. I’m fine with my Moto X 2014, but I’d love to be able to install adaway and GELXposed to tweak the launcher. I don’t want to do anything crazy and work already pays for tethering, so I don’t care about that. Just little things.

      • My understanding is that Xposed isn’t (yet) compatible with ART, won’t the latter be the default runtime setting for Lollipop?

    • There are only two reasons to root for me, titanium backup and ad away. I think some day Google will give android the ability to back up app data natively, but I don’t ever see them adding an ad blocker. In which case, there will always be the need for root.

    • With root, you can disable most of the Verizon services running in the background that slow down the phone.

  • While this is great news I don’t know if I will bother. I have not had root on my last 3 phones and while I miss a couple things, I have been doing well without it. A bootloader unlock would be better for me. Especially with lollipop close which will break it.

  • remember when everyone was excited for the turbo? feels like the turbo has no shot with the n6 g6 and other 2015 sets on verizon. we are spoiled

    • You say that now but I would trade it all for better battery. The S6 is to appeal to Apple users. The turbo is fast enough.

      • better battery for hardcore people matters. 4 the rest of the world they want an i-like device.

as a manufacturer of devices i wouldn’t care as long as people bought it by the millions. that said, we don’t even know how the S6 batter will perform in the real world.

      • maybe, but depending what the exploit is you’d have to see if it survives root. old school apps like root keeper barely work anymore. usually the exploit will be patched with a new release, depending on where the exploit is

        • If they don’t release the root method publicly, moto devs won’t know what they need to fix. The exploit isn’t what survives an OTA (I’m assuming that’s what you meant), but yeah su has no way to survive an OTA from KK -> LP right now. They would simply run their exploit again on lollipop, unless google/moto randomly fixed the bug they are exploiting to gain root.

          • Exactly… Hopefully these guys keep the exploit unreleased to the oublic until the Turbo gets ota’d to 5.1!

    • If you have root you can add this line to build.prop for tethering.
      net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

  • I really hope this helps get the VZW Moto X 2014 root as well. There is a nice size bounty growing for the Devs!

        • I want to be able to tweak the Google Now launcher. I use the swipe left to Google now a lot, but other launchers can’t do it. I like the simplicity/etc. I just don’t like the persistent google search bar. I don’t need it there. I can just TALK to my phone, I can swipe left to Google Now to search, I can search from the Chrome address bar. Its a waste of space.

          • I don’t see anything special about google now launcher.. don’t even like but that’s just me. Using action 3 and happy with it 🙂

          • Get rid of the persistent Google search bar by using Nova Launcher or similar.

          • You have to live with the much more difficult swiping up:) I have it programmed to open Google Now with a double tap.

        • Also for AppRadio Unchained. I have a Pioneer touchscreen in my car and there’s like 3 phones that support screen mirroring by default. With ARU I can mirror any Android Phone fully with touch support.

  • well if this works then it can be hacked to unlock all of the radios that live inside that snapdragon chip…Making it good for LTE on every carrier! May have to pick one up for some testing…

  • Never thought this day would come….! Also never thought Nexus 6 would come to Verizon.

      • No, It’s just that Google Caved into Verizon getting it’s Greedy@ss cut of money

        • No it’s because Google’s 6 is really expensive, as is told by the sales numbers, and most people don’t want to shell out 600 for it

          • But they’ll shell out 850 for the smaller note 4, or 950 for the 6 plus? Make any sense?

          • In comparison to before when it was off contract, no one would pay for it when it’s only 150 for a note 4 on contract. It’s a fact I’m not speculating.
