Developers rejoice, as Google launched Google Play Services version 4.2 this morning, which brings the full Google Cast SDK inside. With the new SDK, developers can start throwing a cast button right into their apps and then publish them to Google Play for users to download.
Google has worked hard to make the process fast and simple, so we should start seeing apps getting updated with Cast support pretty soon.
For developers, this is great news. For users, now we play the waiting game.
The Google Cast SDK makes it easy to bring your content to the TV. There’s no need to create a new app — just incorporate the SDK into your existing mobile and web apps. You are in control of how and when you publish your Cast-ready app to users through the Google Cast developer console.
Developers can head to their Google Services area in the Developers site to start working.

Soundcloud please!
Vimeo is on my watch list
Hoping WatchESPN and xFinityGo and maybe some other sports and news stations add compatibility quickly. It would make life much easier…
come on Spotify!
finally, google, yay.
btw, anyone in need of moto x $30 off codes, enjoy. i was just sent an email reminding me that they expire today:
VDayX-BBDW-PLC6-WFZH-TAGY

Oh! so that explains why my Nexus 4 was hot enough to fry an egg this morning…
personally can’t wait for this. should be interesting. I have a list of apps that i believe will never get the cast button.
my main want is BTN2GO app. outside of that, “Photos” iHeartRadio, daily motion,MX player, pocket casts, spotify, and maybe some simple games like badlands or into the dead would be pretty cool/easy on the ol’ tele

1,000,000,000 – 705,032,704
Please add this to some Gallery App. QuickPic or whatever. and Twitch. plz plz plz
First Google needs to reinvent the Gallery App so that it is modern, can be customized with personal galleries, and then conform to the HOLO look and feel.
Twitch very much so. But I already bought a Xbox one and it’s natively built in…
I’m just waiting for Vudu to get Cast abilities. Or Flixster. Either one!
This google play services is still eating 20-25% of my battery.
Uninstall update then update. Works for me
I uninstalled/reinstalled it and I’ll give that a shot. Thanks.
sheesh, i havent checked before, but my G2 (vzw) says 27%. i assume that’s on the excessive end?
Yea, I think it should be around 2-3% or so. I have the VS980 VZW G2 as well.
tried the uninstall and reinstall and now today it’s at 32%…did you have any luck?
Yea, i think it helped. However, I installed the google play services 4.2 update to work with allcast, so that might of helped as well.
Thanks, that worked for me. For anyone else, I uninstalled play services with titanium backup, rebooted, then re-installed the 4.1.32 apk. No more battery drain.
I want to see my screen on my TV.
Since the SDK is out, I’m sure it won’t be long before some crafty developer makes that magic happen!
Its out but not obtainable yet. I can only get Google Play services version 14 atm.
Just add the SDK to Nova Launcher???
I’d be down for that since I swear by Nova Launcher, but some people prefer the stock launcher.
I switch between the two, but love Nova for the gestures and customization.
Unless you have the source code or are hacking it in, it seems to me that you won’t be doing that.
Lol, whoops meant it to mean that the developer could possibly add it to the launcher.
yeah, if you just want to see your home screens, this would work….lol. anything outside of that its worthless….we just need google to enable the “cast” option in settings to work with chromecast for screen mirroring.
THIS

Yes I know but he said he wanted his screen on his TV, that would do it. right? As for controlling your entire phone, that would have to come from the system level, correct?
Hopefully Koush updates his allcast app soon and includes such functionality if possible.
Given his rep with updating his apps, he most likely won’t.
He already specifically said he was waiting for this for him to update his allcast app.
Any One know why the EFF Chromecast won’t just mirror the entire phone?
Think Google would of been smart enough to have the foresight to see that’s what most people would want.
i feel like they aren’t pushing that because of the strain it will put on the phone and battery and the negative experience most users will have. what makes chromecast so great is that you start streams with your phone and then your phone is removed from the equation.
look at that… he updated it already.
Whoops. He did already. Nice try.
He said he was waiting for this to happen in order to update allcast, so I am super excited.
Oops. I didn’t mean to vote it down but happened by accident. I just wanted to peak at who down voted it… Nevermind. Up voting cancelled it out for me.
and one day later, Koush has already updated his app.
and one day later, he already updated his app. that was quick.
only problem is that like 2 second delay
Yay chromecast!
Who cares…Broncos lost. But seriously this is great news. Tbh, my Chromecast has been collecting dust for awhile. Will be really nice to be able to use it with its full potential.
Who cares that the Broncos lost?
Broncos fans that watched the super bowl? Besides that, no one. 😉
I care…because I’m a Seahawk.
I don’t care about NFL football. However, I did watch the game. The better team won. The Broncos did not come to play.
It was pretty sad. I was hoping for a game of epic proportions, but sadly the Broncs laid a huge turd.
It happens. Broncos kicked more asss during the regular season to make up for it.
There’s always a positive way to spin things.
I’m just saying. The amount of Seahawks bandwagoners, people hating on Denver and Peyton, it’s ridiculous.
True story. I’m a Seahawk fan of 32 years, so this was a sweet victory for me, made even better by the fact that this proved all the idiots wrong who said the Broncos were going to blow us out.
I don’t see why people would say it would be a blowout. It probably would have been great, but the clear miscommunication in the first play proved otherwise.
I didn’t get it either. I was expecting a 31-28 type of game. Instead we got a massacre right out of the gate. The Hawks are really good, but something with the Broncos was off last night.
I’m still happy Peyton has his ring and headed to the Hall of Fame.
Is there not enough pot in Denver for you. It shouldn’t be an issue.
Google cast is different from chrome cast, right?
Chromecast uses the Google Cast API. Chromecast is merely an endpoint/receiving device.
Thanks for the clarification. Great news!!
This was my question as well. Thanks for asking and Thank You Trent for answering 🙂
