Only back in June of this year, we learned that OnePlus would provide regular software OTA updates to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T through November, though, it wasn’t exactly known if that meant total Android P support, considering the timing. This morning, the company has clarified its position, stating unequivocally, “We have decided to focus our development resources on the Android P project instead of upgrading the device to Android 8.1.”
For those who have yet to upgrade from a OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T, this is major news.
Here’s how OnePlus broke the news in its forum.
Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Google on the Android P Beta program. Thanks to everyone’s participation and continued feedback, the progress we have made together has been greatly accelerated. The Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order. We will keep you all updated in the coming months.
Now, not only will the OnePlus 3 and 3T receive Android P, but it’s still scheduled to receive an additional year of security updates following November, 2018. Basically, these phones will have support until November, 2019, which is great for current owners.
