Owners of the Pixel or Pixel XL and Nexus devices should be seeing an update this morning for an app called Device Health Services. I’d imagine the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will see updates to this as well, once they launch.

What is Device Health Services? Google describes it as a service/app that “predicts how long your phone’s battery will last based on your usage.” As the screenshots indicate, this is the battery section inside of your phone’s settings that relays to you your usage. On your usage chart, you should see two numbers, one that indicates how long your phone has been unplugged, along with another that estimates how much longer your battery will last. This app, Device Health Services, apparently helps with that number. There is likely some other magic going on under there, but those are the basics that Google is sharing with us.

In terms of this update, the changelog says that there are “model & infrastructure improvements,” as well as “more models” and bug fixes. OK, then!
