Android 2.2 Dominates iOS4 in Browser Battle?

News came out earlier today confirming what we had heard back at Google I/O, that the new Froyo browser would crush any mobile browser that Apple could create.  Ars Technica took the new iPhone 4, placed it against a Nexus One with Android 2.2 and then ran some javascript speed tests.  As you can see from the chart above, the results were pretty one-sided.

But are they accurate?  Engadget attempted a visual test which produced much more competitive results with the Nexus One still coming out on top as long as Flash 10.1 was disabled.  With Flash enabled, they essentially tied with load times.

While we’re not surprised by these results, it is interesting to see a smartphone which has been on the market for 7 months outperform one that is as new as they come.  Oh, and only comes out once per year.  Yay Android!

Let’s hope that our July 13th Froyo info for the Droid 1 holds up.  Can’t wait.
