The sleeper announcement out of Samsung’s Unpacked event has got to be the fact that the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ not only feature fast charging, but they are also the first devices on the planet to feature fast wireless charging. Yes, you read that correctly. (more…)
With the introduction of more technology over the past few years, it seems that our desks are becoming more cluttered than they have ever been. We simultaneously need smartwatch chargers, chargers for phones, tablets, and heck, maybe even a charger for Google Glass. The point is, it’s a messy situation. However, thanks to the introduction of a new desktop monitor from Samsung with built-in Qi Wireless Charging, you can begin to fight the clutter. (more…)
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced this morning that a new Qi wireless power standard specification “paves the way for fast charging of mobile phones.” In other words, wireless charging will soon have fast charging capabilities, similar to what is found in devices currently equipped with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology. I’ll say that again – wireless charging is about to be fast, just like turbo or fast charging is. (more…)
Just before Google I/O, we told you that IKEA had begun selling their series of wireless charging pads, lamps, and other accessories in the US. We also told you that we may or may not have a few to giveaway, which as you can tell from this post, is about to happen.
After a quick trip out to the Portland IKEA, we came back with three extra single-spot charging plates (Nordmarke), along with a bigger three-spot charging plate. All will work just fine with your wireless charging-capable device, like a Galaxy S6, Nexus 6, or Nexus 5. They should look quite snazzy in your home as well, since IKEA built these to blend in with furniture, not look like a piece of cheap technology, which I would argue is the approach most wireless charger makers take. Included in the series of announcements surrounding the launch of the Galaxy S6 from Samsung, was word from IKEA that they had partnered with the Korean electronics giant to build out furniture that would include embedded wireless chargers. The thought was to help increase wireless charging adoption, but also to add functionality to your bedside table or lamp that would allow you to ditch the ugly chargers sold to you by Samsung and a variety of other accessory makers. The result, unveiled in April, was a series of lamps, tables, and stand-alone wireless chargers that added some style to something as geeky as wireless charging. (more…)
Looking for a whole bunch of electronics to blow last Friday’s paycheck on? We’ve got you covered, thanks to a 2-day sale over at Groupon. By using coupon code “SALE3” at checkout, you can save 10% on your orders, up to $50 off. After cruising through their pages and pages of deals, we actually found a handful that are worth considering.
Items like the official Samsung Galaxy S6 wireless charger can be had for $35 (normally $50). The 1st gen Moto X on Verizon is also as cheap as $180 after the discount. But maybe the best deal of all, if you are in the market for home Hi-Fi speakers, is the discount on Sonos’ entire line-up. You can grab a Sonos Play:5 for just $342 (usually $399) or the Play:1 for $171 (usually $199). Sonos products are almost never discounted, and if they are, never to these levels.
There are other deals as well, all quick-linked below.

Ever since IKEA and Samsung announced that they were teaming up to introduce a line of furniture with embedded wireless charging, we have been dying to get a look at the options, prices, and opportunities to buy them. With the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, along with a handful of other devices showing love to wireless charging these days, the thought of having furniture in our lives with built-in wireless charging sounds pretty incredible. It may not be fast charging, but it’s certainly quite convenient, especially if the technology can live seamlessly in our day-to-day lives.
This morning, IKEA finally announced pricing and availability of the new line for the US, with the first pieces of furniture becoming available in “late Spring.” (more…)
