Given Sony’s film pedigree, it’s a bit surprising the company hasn’t released more Android-powered shooter accessories – it’s mostly stuck to conservative offerings like the QX10 and QX100. Luckily, the QX1, an interesting take on smartphone attachments, is right around the corner. (more…)
Samsung announced this morning that its Galaxy NX will officially launch in the U.S. during the month of October at a starting price of $1599 (body only). The interchangeable “professional” grade smart-camera that runs Android 4.2, which Samsung is calling the “first connected Compact System Camera,” can also be bundled with a 18-55mm lens for $1699. These prices are for the WiFi model. And no, I’m not making these prices up. (more…)
Yesterday morning, Samsung unveiled a bevy of products at a Premiere event in London, some of which were brand new, others that were previously announced just unseen publicly. We got to see new tablets, phones and even a new mirrorless-Android-powered camera. I wouldn’t blame you if you were unable to list all of them. I was, however, able to play with a few of the new devices and see if Samsung has delivered any innovATIV products. Here are some quick thoughts on the Galaxy NX and the Galaxy S4 Mini.
Shortly after today’s Samsung Galaxy Premiere event, our man Dave had a chance to spend a few minutes with some of the devices they featured on stage, most notably the Galaxy NX mirrorless-Android-powered camera. The Galaxy NX is Samsung’s new top-tier camera with interchangeable lenses that also runs a full version of Android through a 4.8-inch HD LCD display. This is no low-end camera like the original Galaxy Camera of last year, that also happens to have Android along for the ride – this may be the real deal.
The NX wasn’t all that Samsung had on display, though. We’ve got pictures of the Galaxy S4 Zoom (the phone-camera) and Galaxy S4 Mini down below as well. We didn’t have a chance to fondle the Galaxy S4 Active or ATIV Q, so coverage of those will have to continue another day.
For now, enjoy the pics! We’ll be back with more in a bit. (more…)
Samsung announced the Galaxy NX this morning as the world’s first interchangeable-lens camera with LTE and WiFi connectivity. Sporting a 20.3MP APS-C sensor with Android 4.2 and a 4.8-inch HD LCD display, the Galaxy NX brings both professional-level photography and a mobile operating system with apps and connectivity together as one. This is most definitely a product on its own, breaking new ground. (more…)
Shortly after we wrote up the Samsung CEO JK Shin’s comments on their intention to introduce a “mirrorless” camera, we now have our official answer as to what they are going for. The Samsung Galaxy NX looks to be a beast of a device, sporting a 4.3″ high-res display along its backside, complete support for interchangeable lenses, the full TouchWiz-themed Android OS onboard, 20.3MP sensor and probably a very long list of other photography hotness that I am unfamiliar with.
