Verizon Appears to Have Closed the Unlimited Data Keeping Extravaganza

verizon logo 4g lte

Well, our weekend of upgrades with unlimited data appears to have come to a close. Within the last hour, we received word that Verizon systems in stores were no longer allowing reps to select unlimited data packages as options during upgrades. We are also now being forced off of unlimited data while walking through the upgrade process online that previously left our current plans intact. Was fun while it lasted.

verizon data fix

The question now remains – will Verizon honor all of these upgrades with unlimited data once phones arrive within the next couple of days? We know that many of you upgraded online, chose in-store pick-up, and then activated the phones with great success over the last two days. Good job on that move, folks. But what about those who upgraded and are having devices shipped to their homes?

Those phones will show up on doorsteps within the next day or so. Will Verizon do the right thing and allow them to keep their current plans, exactly as the checkout and online contract-signing process showed? If not, then they better get ready for a whole bunch of returns. Because if your phone shows up and attempts to change you off of unlimited data during activation, feel free to return the phone and get your old plan back.

Did you get in on the unlimited weekend bonanza?

Update: Some readers are still seeing the option to upgrade and keep unlimited data this morning. Not sure what Verizon is up to, but this deal (assuming it sticks) is probably worth looking into. Then again, we don’t know how this is going to play out yet. Will Verizon simply cancel all orders? Will they honor them? Will they switch you off of unlimited? We just don’t know.

Here’s a tip for Big Red, and it addresses the comments about Comcast and others as well. Service companies have a little secret department called Customer Retention. Their only job is to keep you as a customer. Skip Customer Service, FInancial Services and any other departments they try and screw you with. I now have the email address of a direct corporate rep that I can contact to arrange things for me without much effort at all.

Regarding Comcast, the process is basically the same. Never accept their little 3 or 6 or month promotional BS – we all know you get screwed. In my case, I actually requested a rep come to my home to discuss plans. Result: Top internet package with X1 router; literally EVERY television channel, package, event and all else you can think of – except TMC, which is funny. The full digital phone service with all the features they offer (which is beyond anything else offered in the marketplace once you do your research). 5 HD receivers plus HD DVR or main TV, taxes, BS fees and the full rectal exam, $120 a month – for 2 years. I said the phone companies insist on two year contracts, why should I accept anything less from you guys? 2 years, $120/m. When the two years is up, and they try and jack your fees, you simply reach Customer Retention and tell them you cannot afford a higher bill (perhaps a $10 increase is possible in your budget), otherwise you have to cancel. Done.

I will stick to Verizon. I trust them with fastest and most reliable and more coverage/networks/markets. Go Red(Verizon). I will Stick to the Big Red. Also because of their Call quality and reception, That is the best thing for Verizon.

  • Kelly Chasney

That was just a wee bit longer than I intended. Hopefully someone finds it informational. :-)

I don’t understand how they’d remove an unlimited plan once the phone is active on that line. Prior to it being active and they catch it, sure, but not after. At this point, ‘at this point’ it’s still illegal to have you sign a legal binding contract then switch the terms because they didn’t like the final sealed deal. But who knows, companies don’t seem to respect any laws that do not benefit them nowadays. If it impedes making a buck then just disregard.

I had thought one of the easier ways to maintain unlimited was, if you have two lines or more and one is tiered, upgrade the second line. Once it’s active use Verizon’s ‘switch phones’ option to now use the phone on the unlimited plan. Obviously not as simple as a straight upgrade and you need someone on your plan who missed out on unlimited data but, if your plans are mixed like this it seems quite easy to continue the unlimited contract. A local company store (i.e. Verizon owned) said they are no longer allowed to do this ‘trick’ for customers in real time (while you’re at the store). They stopped short of saying it couldn’t be done any longer. Which means you can do it yourself or find an independent store who’s a little more open to tweaking. If you don’t know any better, they all try to move you from unlimited to tiered or especially a shared plan if you have multiple lines.

An additional topic I’d like to inform other Verizon users of is Verizon pushing hard to have the FCC thrown out of net neutrality regulating. Contrary to previous Verizon statements when consumers were concerned over the matter, Verizon does intend and wish to start charging content fees (Internet Tax). IOW, the highest bidder gets exposure and bandwidth. The ones that don’t pay a content premium may find their websites aren’t being accessed since they’ve been blocked for failure to pay the Verizon Tax. Welcome to cable Tele for the Internet.

If Verizon is successful at litigation, if they win, we will take one GIANT step backwards. This system, the modern day Internet was created by and for the people. Companies have flourished and given a level playing ground to compete. Verizon would not be who they are today without the Internet. No research and development monies were needed. We did the initial work for them.

They are trying to become Lord Verizon. In the old days the Lord’s would rule the land. They would tax and take as they please. If you didn’t comply with his rules there were consequences. This is what Verizon wishes. They want to tax anyone posting something on the Internet who then wishes the content to be seen, read, and/or watched by others. If they don’t pay, they don’t play. They wish to be private tax collectors where there aren’t exemptions and the prices are theirs to set. Again, they wish to turn your Internet into the antiquated cable system so it becomes an automatic, no one left behind taxing scheme with dire repercussions to your ability to enjoy free speech, access knowledge, or view any material of interest to you instead of only approved (i.e. paid for) content.

Think of going back to the AOL days. They controlled the whole network, everything, and when stacked up against a ‘free’ Internet it couldn’t survive with its business plan of closed systems. Verizon wishes to cut out the competition completely by laying claim to the Internet and forcing you to consume only what the wealthy are willing to pay Verizon to be seen.

The Internet should always be regulated which only means ‘we the people’ are ultimately in control. ‘We, the people’ and not ‘I, the company’ should dictate what happens with a national treasure.

Companies are and will forever be chasing the next dollar or billion. They neither care nor even think about what’s in you and yours best interest. It’s our responsibility to keep them in line and I think we’re a little overdue in giving out spankings.

Mark my words, if the judges hearing the case side with Verizon, Net Neutrality is dead and we’re basically giving ISP companies private taxing authority. Can you even remember Compuserv’s insane pricing back in the day? And nowadays, it’s pretty much a requirement to have an Internet connection. The same goes for a cell phone. With the big 2 controlling most of the country, it wouldn’t be hard for them, unchecked, to keep raising their tax over and over and over while also reducing content by requiring extra payment to view it. They can also get money both ways. Extra $ from you to view it (e.g. extended cable channels), and $ from the person posting the content and wanting it to be seen by Verizon customers. Each ISP company can pick and choose what they now offer. And you, the consumer, the person who’s taxes helped create the Internet, you’re screwed. If they can get their hands on it, Verizon will destroy the Internet as we know it and replace it with something that prioritizes making another dollar instead of innovation, information, education, openness, and free speech.

Like anything else, when you choose to completely deregulate, ‘the people’ seldom win. We’ve given up control with the hope the industry will have ‘normal person ethics’. What we forget is that money has no ethics. You have it or you don’t. Doesn’t matter how you got it as long as you don’t have to give it back.

Now if the FCC is overruled, legislation would be needed to fix another (or several) ‘run away company’. This Congress certainly won’t care enough about it. And Verizon is more than happy to sit back and collect everything they can in the meantime.

  • Sundeep S

I’ve ordered an iPhone 5s 32gig and the delivery date showed 10/28. Right now, my order status shows “We received your order and it is in process.”. Any one else that can share their order status for an iPhone 5s? just to keep track?

  • alwaysconfused

So I got a question… if you receive your phone, but cancel your upgrade within the 14 days, do you have to return your phone?

    • Sundeep S

of course you have to return the phone if you cancel the contract. alternatively, keep the phone and pay full price.

  • Daniel Flores

I wanna know if just putting in your old SIM in the newly shipped phone will change anything. It shouldn’t, right? The fact they sold me a phone at the upgrade price and changed my contract date, is on them. I gotta believe that me using the same SIM will not change anything further.

  • kevinh52

Moving to New DL Post http://www.droid-life.com/2013/09/30/so-is-verizon-going-to-let-you-keep-unlimited-data-and-upgrade/… Comments– I hope to keep unlimited….

  • Dustin Foreman

Ha I just realized that it dropped my unlimited data price from $29.99 to $24.59 lol. Unless that was always like that from my employee discount.

  • marcus

how are they seeing htis? when i go to upgrade it’s not asking me to switch to share everything, but its not allowing me to keep unlimited data… it’s saying it recommends switching to 2GB for 30$

  • chuck

i went on verizon wireless and activated to my new upgrade, without having the new phone in hand. verizon now has my new sim card activated on a unlimited plan, and i have screen shots to prove it now. the site says my new plan wont expire until 9/30/15. however, my account is kinda frozen now, my current phone doesn’t work, but i’ll see in two days if my strategy works. i found the glitch to their glitch.

    • chuck

or maybe they were intending to honor the new plans all along

    • Ben Baird

      This is classic…Nicely done sir

    • chris13417

I did this as well by mistake on the myverizon website. Had to call support and have the activation terminated so I could use my current phone until my Moto X is delivered.

  • Alexander Garcia

It’s a TRAP!!! If you have Unlimited Data and would like to keep it, do NOT renew your contract with this glitch. They will force you to a tiered plan once you activate your new phone.

    • DailyPlunge

      That’s an OPINION!!!! haha

    • Nathaniel_G

…And you can just return the phone within 14 days and get your plan back.

  • Scott

Well the shipment notification came. I was honestly waiting for a cancellation from Verizon. The downside is, I want to take the phone in and exchange it for something different. If that causes me to lose unlimited, then fine. Deep down, I’m wanting to make the switch to T-Mobile anyway.

    • Marco De Paulis

What phone did u order and what do u want to switch it to and why??

  • Lee Mclaurin

    My Droid Maxx Shipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ratamacue2

Why do you guys think that it will make any difference in the contract if we activate a new sim? The contract we signed up for will be included in the package that comes with the phone, and it’s already signed. Are you just thinking using an existing card may avoid a potential hassle?

    • jrbmed08

We’re not sure if they will somehow make us switch to tiered plans upon activation of the new SIM.

      • Ratamacue2

Gotcha. I should have a new Moto X in hand tomorrow, and I’m just going to use the sim they send me. I’ll honestly be surprised if there’s a problem, given how previous glitches have panned out.

        • moelsen8

yeah it’s gonna be interesting to see how this plays out. if you think about it, for all of us whose orders shipped – right now, we have a brand new phone that we paid veriuzon $1xx-$2xx for. hypothetically, what happens if we don’t activate it and just go on about our business? my contract end date is in 2015 and i still have unlimited data on my account. they’d basically have to reach out and ask for the phone back. i’m not sure there’s much they can do here once these things have shipped..

  • JustAGuess

I imagine that several Android sites have reached out to their PR contacts at Big Red to get an official statement, but I’m guessing they’re formulating the response to be clear so there’s no legal complications about it. ;)

  • jrbmed08

My moto X has shipped! Contract end says 2015 and it still says unlimited. Now the question is whether I should try to activate the sim card they’re sending me or just get a cutter and cut mine…

    • Nathaniel_G

If my iPhone 5S ships I plan on using a nano SIM cutter on my current SIM

  • Ben Baird

My G2 has shipped and (I know, don’t trust customer service) two different reps have told me the same thing, My account still shows unlimited and I shouldn’t get prompted to change to tiered when I activate the phone. Should arrive on Oct 3, So I guess on the 4th I will activate and see what happens.

Edit: My contract has been extended to 2015 and unlimited is showing intact.

  • Daniel Flores

OK….Update here for people… I got shipping info and my contract date has been extended. But I wanted to point out. In device/SIM info. It only shows that they’re sending me the phone with no SIM. My other order that I used to upgrade my feature line show them shipping a device AND SIM. Maybe that’s how they’ll try to get people…when they activate a new SIM. Which is not necessary, just use old SIM…FYI

    • jrbmed08

They’re sending me a SIM, but perhaps it’s because I’m going from GNex to Moto X and they use different SIMs.

      • Daniel Flores

        Oh…OK cool.

    • Eric Soriano

When I was at the store, the CSR pulled the phone out of the box. I pulled the SIM from my ONE and when I pulled the tray from the Ultra there was a sim in there. I just put mine in. After it activated, i checked the verizon app and it showed the new phone and unlimited data. I would suggest using your old SIM if you have one.

      • moelsen8

does it still “activate” or some kind of process when you swap sims, or do you just swap them and turn it on and start using it?

        • Eric Soriano

The new phone fired right up and was showing 4G as soon as it got past the animation screen. Of course the CSR had to push all the damn buttons until it got to the GMAIL part of it then asked me to log in.

          • moelsen8

i hate that sh*t. just scan the box and hand it to me and don’t touch my new phone. and no, i don’t want verizon backup assist and all the other redundant BS.

  • James Cliff

Since people are getting their orders shipped and being charged (verbal contract), I would have to think Verizon will have to honor it. I wouldn’t trust any information coming from any of the brick-and-mortar stores.

  • Helpful citizen

i just tried to do the upgrade and it automatically told me that unlimited data is not available anymore. they closed the loop hole

  • moelsen8

i’m just really surprised this hasn’t been picked up by many site, if any at all, after yesterday. you’d think there would be another article today and it’d be stickied at the top of the site and developing..

    • truthful

I too have been surprised by that as well.

  • Isaiah Machiz

    sgs4 just shipped out :DDDDD

    • truthful

I ordered the sgs4 as well The reason I wanted it opposed to the LG g2 was because the volume button on the back. I am a runner and having no access to volume with a button on the side in running arm band is a big problem

      • Isaiah Machiz

im actually regretting it. Wish I’d gone with a g2. Picked the s4 for rom support.
The g2 you could probably change the volume while running just as easily. (just leave the volume button facing out from your arm)

        • truthful

But then i wouldn’t be able to change songs =)

  • Phil

Just an update from this morning. My order has been processed have a tracking number and already picked up by fedex. My contract has been extended until 2015 and the device has showed up on bill as i asked for that option. From what I can tell my plan has not changed

  • Jay F

My phone just shipped!!! It feels like a holiday with all this DL chatter. I’m glad to be apart of it. “I’m very happy to be hear!” (Prince Akeem voice) – HTC one.

  • lane

Bam! Shipped! tracking number and all.

    • lane

I paid extra for overnight shipping too

  • truthful

GOOD TO GO, received my shipping confirmation and unlimited data is still showing. Also my contract end date is now 2015! What a great day!

  • Mariah

i can never get the option to keep unlimited show up – i just keep missing it! But i’ve also never been given the option to sign up for Max either…so who knows.

  • rmh5280

So I got nervous and cancelled my original order which would have shipped my new G2 to my home, and then ordered again this morning (about 9:00 a.m. MST) with the option to pick it up at the Verizon store. The unlimited option was still active at that time. When I showed up at the Verizon store, they informed that my order had already shipped, and therefore I couldn’t pick the phone up and would have to wait for the other one to arrive. Weird since I had not received a shipping confirmation, and the rep on the phone told me she had cancelled the order. Anyway long story short, I just now received a shipping confirmation for Wednesday delivery. Checked my plan online, and it is still showing unlimited data, but my contract end date is now 2015, same as others have been reporting.

  • Jack

Okay, for some reason, I think the unlimited is working again. I tried last night at around 8 PM EST on an iphone 5s order and it didn’t work. I just tried like as of 2 PM EST today and it’s working.. WTF?

    • Sean

Do you have a single plan or family plan?

  • guest

so my phone has shipped and my contract online is showing new end date of 9/30/2015 with unlimited data still. Does anyone know if I will be forced to tiered data when I actually activate the device? Not surprisingly, the verizon rep i just chatted with gave me a completely different answer than the one I spoke to prior.

    • moelsen8

no, that’s what we’re all going to be waiting on whenever the first devices start to arrive. the consensus seems to be not to activate the new device, but to swap the sim from your old one. but who knows how this will go down yet.

  • Dustin Foreman
    • James Cliff

So it looks like if we are told otherwise, if we CALL into Verizon Customer Service (not walk into any brick-and-mortar store) they will honor the upgrade AND allow us to keep our unlimited data plans?

That’s what I’m getting from that Twitter post….

      • moelsen8

that twitter post was a few hours ago and who knows if it’s the official stance on this particular “glitch” or not. they seem to be as confused as we are about this. it’s kind of odd that verizon hasn’t acknowledged this situation yet. almost like they’re just gonna let this happen while denying it’s happening.

        • Dustin Foreman

Yah I’m just as lost as everyone else. Was just posting that cause that’s what I came across. I know lots of people have screen shots of orders showing unlimited data still intact and chat records of vzw stating you would not lose unlimited data upon activating the device.

      • Travis Keany

What am I missing — where is there information in that Twitter post that leads you to believe calling CS will get them to honor it?

I wish I knew what to do, my G2 is in the mail and will be here on Wednesday.

  • Angry&Upset

I have a feeling I’m going to get screwed and loose my unlim. data. Upon placing new orders (new every 2yr) they don’t let you know of the new plans. I was told and it was notated I could keep my 450 plan no problems what so ever. Which has now escalated into, yes we never talked you about the data. Now a supervisor is going to contact me to find a resolution. I whole heartedly said so your system works to pull the wool over customers eyes…..now the resolution?? (I don’t have a contract and can cancel) I always say they are wasting my time and now I’m wasting there’s.

    • Jacwhite22

HUH? What are you saying exactly?

  • Jeremy Wray

I haven’t heard a thing from Verizon outside of congrats on your new phone

  • Shaunwin

Verizon just needs to man up and honor these orders. They probably got somewhere around 1000 upgrades. That is nothing compared to the millions of other contracts. If they made a mistake, live and learn. They lost nothing on the extreme minimal amount of orders. Or they could use it to their advantage and use it as marketing. Look what we did for these good consumers.

  • truthful

Do you have to have a SIM cutter to cut Droid Bionic SIM to Galaxy S4 SIM?

  • Suralin

Just checked my order status. I have a fedex tracking number and my contract end date has been updated to 9/30/2015. I checked my features and it still says Unlimited Data. I guess that’s the first hurdle…

Edit: And before people ask – Moto-X, 9AM EST, 9/29.

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Just for the sake of information overload… have they charged your creditcard yet? …supposedly that’s when the contract becomes binding. I’ve heard payment goes through immediately upon shipping.

      • Suralin

My credit card has been charged. On the receipt, there is the following notation that says returns must be made within 14 days, a restocking fee of $35, and credit for the activation fee if returned in 3 days.

  • James Cliff

    If it was a MISTAKE….that’s Verizon’s fault.

A contact is binding and everyone had to have signed a contract when placing their order.

I have a feeling the only ones that will keep their phones are the ones who are willing to spend the time and trouble to argue, fight, complain to Verizon’s management team.

I will be fighting to for my two upgrades….

    • http://www.ashevilletechnologyservices.com Dan Brown

Which is exactly what Verizon is counting on. …I’m there fighting with you though!

  • James Cliff

    CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

If you are told no…do not give up!

    • mec

after lawyers fees you might get $12/ea!

  • truthful

Does the droid bionic have the same SIM as Galaxy S4?

    • primarchlion

It’s larger. But it can be cut. Droid 4 and RAZR and the like have the same size SIM as GS4. My sister has a GS4, my mom a Droid 4, and myself a Bionic so I’m in the know =P

  • DailyPlunge

    Question about SIM

I noticed that the MOTO X is shipping with a SIM. I have a SIM in my Galaxy Nexus. Should I just use the GN SIM if it fits? What’s the drawback with using the SIM VZW shipped?

  • James Cliff

If money exchanges hands…meaning you were charged….that’s a contract.

    • mec

if you are fully reimbursed and restored to status quo, there are no damages.

      • James Cliff

Once the money exchanges hands the receiving party must honor the “verbal contract”.

If they don’t it will come down to whether the opposite party is willing to spend the time and money to legal pursue the matter…most people don’t.

        • mec

and when you pursue legal recourse, money was already refunded, what damages are you claiming? contracts exist to establish terms through which damages will be calculated.

          • James Cliff

You can’t opt out of a contract by simply providing a refund. If it were that simple people and corporations would do it all the time. There may have been a clerical mistake on Verizon’s end…but if money exchanged hands, that is a contract.

    • Tim242

They can change the terms of the contract. They just have to give you a get out of jail free card.

  • Daniel Flores

OK…awesome….I got a new contract date, and have the shipping info. Unlimited Data is still there. I will not try to activate the new SIM. I’m just gonna put in the one I have now in my Nexus.

    • Marco De Paulis

So, you’re saying, if you use the SIM u currently have they won’t mess around with the plan. Otherwise, if you use the new SIM, they will try and change your plan to tiered?

      • Daniel Flores

I don’t know for sure…But I’m not gonna try and find out till all this blows over. I’m just gonna use my current SIM and see what happens. Later after say 6 months to a year, I’ll ask to have my new SIM activated. Then I’ll see what they say.

        • Marco De Paulis

Good idea. Any benefits to using a new SIM?

          • Tim242

No. A SIM is a SIM.

        • Tim242

Why would you ever want to activate the other SIM? A SIM is a SIM. The Note 3 will be my 4th phone, using the same SIM.

          • Daniel Flores

Good Point…Guess I’ll just use this one forever…LOL

          • moelsen8

i’m curious, do you always order your new phones and have them shipped to you? or do you go in-store and tell them to use your old sim?

          • Tim242

I normally buy in store and just tell them I’ll use my current SIM..

    • Daniel Flores

This is so awesome…I have a feature line with an upgrade available…I can now upgrade my wife’s like too…when she’s ready…

  • Diar

DAMMIT. Verizon put my order on hold and told me to call in. I did and they said it’s on hold because I’d have to choose a new data plan. No debate. They weren’t budging. So I just canceled the order. I should have at least escalated it to see if I could keep it but oh well. It was a good try. Y’all lucky fools who picked up in store or who got tracking numbers today, enjoy.

    • mec

      when did you order?

    • Isaiah Machiz

What phone when did you order.

    • Question:

Could you give some updates on your situation? Family plan? Transferred upgrade? Eligible for an upgrade on single line?

    • Diar

I’m not on a family plan. I’m still under contract and am eligible for an upgrade on a single line with a Galaxy Nexus. I ordered late Saturday night, probably 11 pm. I’m not sure why I was flagged and others got tracking numbers this morning.

      • moelsen8

are you by chance one of those people using 100+gb / month? kind of serious question, i guess. they could be cherry picking based on who’s using what amount.

        • mec

thats a curious thing to consider. this might expalin why some see and some dont. let low users upgrade and build good will, under a “glitch”. and let heavy users slide to month to month and either boot them or keep their subsidies. I was able to order and I use about 3GB/month on average. my peak was a shade over 4.

        • Jacwhite22

Good thought. I use 5-8 and got a tracking number today…..hmm. I am on a single line.

        • Diar

I used to use an average of 15 gigs a month last year. But I’m on mostly wifi this year so my usage is about 2 to 4 gigs a month. I theorized above that maybe that started with folks like me who chose “bill to account” since we weren’t charged anything and our orders were the easiest to cancel.

          • moelsen8

i billed to account and ordered it yesterday morning. shipped at 11:30 today. there may be no reason at all, just them scrambling to cancel as many as possible before they ship out..

    • Diar

Oh, and I chose “bill to account” so maybe they just started with the easiest to cancel since I wasn’t charged anything.

  • truthful

I just received my order confirmation on the page, and it has the tracking number!!! IT IS CHRISTMAS Thank you Verizon IT DEPT!

  • mendy817

Just tried to pick up my phone in store and they refused to keep my unlimited, told me there was nothing they could do and were pretty rude about it. I called customer service and was told the same thing, I am waiting on the manager’s manager to call me back within 24-48 hours.

    • chris_johns

lol nobody is calling you back

  • DailyPlunge

Just received my shipment notification for the Moto X order from 5:51 pm yesterday.

Nice. I ordered mine at 9 AM Est. I still haven’t gotten a notification. Maybe I’m screwed?

      • moelsen8

they’re probably just bombarded. i just got mine from 11AM EST about an hour, hour and a half ago. the notification email didn’t come until about 20 minutes ago. have you checked the order status directly? that’s how i knew at first.

        • Suralin

I have. It’s just saying check again.

          • moelsen8

            well, keep the faith.

Why aren’t people selecting “in store pick-up” and getting it the same day they place their order online? That way it ensures you’re getting your device without any chance of VZW not sending your device or holding up your activation process.

I picked my new MAXXs up in store yesterday. Got a print out from the counter as well showing my plans were still “Unlimited Data”!

          • rune

I selected in-store pickup and they said there was no way they could do the transaction with me retaining unlimited data. Despite the fact I ordered online, had the new “contract” agreed to, when I went to the store they ignored all that. Store manager was involved as well. They would not budge from the “no way to keep unlimited data with a subsidized phone”, even with my printout. Very rude about the whole thing as well.

          • Michael Tate

Did you mention anything about it to the store clerk/manager? I didn’t say a word … just walked in and said I was there to pick up my new phones. No questions asked. I even asked for a copy of my new agreement before I left (see below). No problems at all for me.

          • mec

i actually did not have an option to do in store pickup.

          • Michael Tate

It’s sort of hidden if you’re not looking for it. It’s not at the “shipping” line … it’s above in the top of the page when checking out. There’s a link for in store pick up.

          • moelsen8

i’d rather deal with an automated system than chance getting some store manager loyal to the company who’s on a power trip.

          • Tim242

A lot of stores are refusing.

I’m betting there are going to be some subtle differences that will cause problems for some people. Consider just a few of the combinations…. 1) single line, eligible for upgrade, using same SIM 2) older family plan, transfering upgrade, using same SIM 3) older family plan, eligible for upgrade, need new SIM due to size (old thunderbolt)..

    • mec

I’m older family plan, eligible for upgrade, and need a new sim. one was in the box that was shipped… i guess we will see what happens.

Has anyone spoken to an agent or customer rep today after their order has already been placed for any info?

    • moelsen8

i think we’ve established that they’re just as clueless as us. probably more clueless.
