Verizon Appears to Have Closed the Unlimited Data Keeping Extravaganza

verizon logo 4g lte

Well, our weekend of upgrades with unlimited data appears to have come to a close. Within the last hour, we received word that Verizon systems in stores were no longer allowing reps to select unlimited data packages as options during upgrades. We are also now being forced off of unlimited data while walking through the upgrade process online that previously left our current plans intact. Was fun while it lasted.Β

verizon data fix

The question now remains – will Verizon honor all of these upgrades with unlimited data once phones arrive within the next couple of days? We know that many of you upgraded online, chose in-store pick-up, and then activated the phones with great success over the last two days. Good job on that move, folks. But what about those who upgraded and are having devices shipped to their homes?

Those phones will show up on doorsteps within the next day or so. Will Verizon do the right thing and allow them to keep their current plans, exactly as the checkout and online contract-signing process showed? If not, then they better get ready for a whole bunch of returns. Because if your phone shows up and attempts to change you off of unlimited data during activation, feel free to return the phone and get your old plan back.

Did you get in on the unlimited weekend bonanza?

Update: Some readers are still seeing the option to upgrade and keep unlimited data this morning. Not sure what Verizon is up to, but this deal (assuming it sticks) is probably worth looking into. Then again, we don’t know how this is going to play out yet. Will Verizon simply cancel all orders? Will they honor them? Will they switch you off of unlimited? We just don’t know.

Here’s a tip for Big Red, and it addresses the comments about Comcast and others as well. Service companies have a little secret department called Customer Retention. Their only job is to keep you as a customer. Skip Customer Service, FInancial Services and any other departments they try and screw you with. I now have the email address of a direct corporate rep that I can contact to arrange things for me without much effort at all.

Regarding Comcast, the process is basically the same. Never accept their little 3 or 6 or month promotional BS – we all know you get screwed. In my case, I actually requested a rep come to my home to discuss plans. Result: Top internet package with X1 router; literally EVERY television channel, package, event and all else you can think of – except TMC, which is funny. The full digital phone service with all the features they offer (which is beyond anything else offered in the marketplace once you do your research). 5 HD receivers plus HD DVR or main TV, taxes, BS fees and the full rectal exam, $120 a month – for 2 years. I said the phone companies insist on two year contracts, why should I accept anything less from you guys? 2 years, $120/m. When the two years is up, and they try and jack your fees, you simply reach Customer Retention and tell them you cannot afford a higher bill (perhaps a $10 increase is possible in your budget), otherwise you have to cancel. Done.

I will stick to Verizon. I trust them with fastest and most reliable and more coverage/networks/markets. Go Red(Verizon). I will Stick to the Big Red. Also because of their Call quality and reception, That is the best thing for Verizon.

That was just a wee bit longer than I intended. Hopefully someone finds it informational. πŸ™‚

I don’t understand how they’d remove an unlimited plan once the phone is active on that line. Prior to it being active and they catch it, sure, but not after. At this point, ‘at this point’ it’s still illegal to have you sign a legal binding contract then switch the terms because they didn’t like the final sealed deal. But who knows, companies don’t seem to respect any laws that do not benefit them nowadays. If it impedes making a buck then just disregard.

I had thought one of the easier ways to maintain unlimited was, if you have two lines or more and one is tiered, upgrade the second line. Once it’s active use Verizon’s ‘switch phones’ option to now use the phone on the unlimited plan. Obviously not as simple as a straight upgrade and you need someone on your plan who missed out on unlimited data but, if your plans are mixed like this it seems quite easy to continue the unlimited contract. A local company store (i.e. Verizon owned) said they are no longer allowed to do this ‘trick’ for customers in real time (while you’re at the store). They stopped short of saying it couldn’t be done any longer. Which means you can do it yourself or find an independent store who’s a little more open to tweaking. If you don’t know any better, they all try to move you from unlimited to tiered or especially a shared plan if you have multiple lines.

An additional topic I’d like to inform other Verizon users of is Verizon pushing hard to have the FCC thrown out of net neutrality regulating. Contrary to previous Verizon statements when consumers were concerned over the matter, Verizon does intend and wish to start charging content fees (Internet Tax). IOW, the highest bidder gets exposure and bandwidth. The ones that don’t pay a content premium may find their websites aren’t being accessed since they’ve been blocked for failure to pay the Verizon Tax. Welcome to cable Tele for the Internet.

If Verizon is successful at litigation, if they win, we will take one GIANT step backwards. This system, the modern day Internet was created by and for the people. Companies have flourished and given a level playing ground to compete. Verizon would not be who they are today without the Internet. No research and development monies were needed. We did the initial work for them.

They are trying to become Lord Verizon. In the old days the Lord’s would rule the land. They would tax and take as they please. If you didn’t comply with his rules there were consequences. This is what Verizon wishes. They want to tax anyone posting something on the Internet who then wishes the content to be seen, read, and/or watched by others. If they don’t pay, they don’t play. They wish to be private tax collectors where there aren’t exemptions and the prices are theirs to set. Again, they wish to turn your Internet into the antiquated cable system so it becomes an automatic, no one left behind taxing scheme with dire repercussions to your ability to enjoy free speech, access knowledge, or view any material of interest to you instead of only approved (i.e. paid for) content.

Think of going back to the AOL days. They controlled the whole network, everything, and when stacked up against a ‘free’ Internet it couldn’t survive with its business plan of closed systems. Verizon wishes to cut out the competition completely by laying claim to the Internet and forcing you to consume only what the wealthy are willing to pay Verizon to be seen.

The Internet should always be regulated which only means ‘we the people’ are ultimately in control. ‘We, the people’ and not ‘I, the company’ should dictate what happens with a national treasure.

Companies are and will forever be chasing the next dollar or billion. They neither care nor even think about what’s in you and yours best interest. It’s our responsibility to keep them in line and I think we’re a little overdue in giving out spankings.

Mark my words, if the judges hearing the case side with Verizon, Net Neutrality is dead and we’re basically giving ISP companies private taxing authority. Can you even remember Compuserv’s insane pricing back in the day? And nowadays, it’s pretty much a requirement to have an Internet connection. The same goes for a cell phone. With the big 2 controlling most of the country, it wouldn’t be hard for them, unchecked, to keep raising their tax over and over and over while also reducing content by requiring extra payment to view it. They can also get money both ways. Extra $ from you to view it (e.g. extended cable channels), and $ from the person posting the content and wanting it to be seen by Verizon customers. Each ISP company can pick and choose what they now offer. And you, the consumer, the person who’s taxes helped create the Internet, you’re screwed. If they can get their hands on it, Verizon will destroy the Internet as we know it and replace it with something that prioritizes making another dollar instead of innovation, information, education, openness, and free speech.

Like anything else, when you choose to completely deregulate, ‘the people’ seldom win. We’ve given up control with the hope the industry will have ‘normal person ethics’. What we forget is that money has no ethics. You have it or you don’t. Doesn’t matter how you got it as long as you don’t have to give it back.

Now if the FCC is overruled, legislation would be needed to fix another (or several) ‘run away company’. This Congress certainly won’t care enough about it. And Verizon is more than happy to sit back and collect everything they can in the meantime.

  • Sundeep S

I’ve ordered an iPhone 5s 32gig and the delivery date showed 10/28. Right now, my order status shows “We received your order and it is in process.”. Any one else that can share their order status for an iPhone 5s? just to keep track?

  • alwaysconfused

So I got a question… if you receive your phone, but cancel your upgrade within the 14 days, do you have to return your phone?

    • Sundeep S

of course you have to return the phone if you cancel the contract. alternatively, keep the phone and pay full price.

  • Daniel Flores

I wanna know if just putting in your old SIM in the newly shipped phone will change anything. It shouldn’t, right? The fact they sold me a phone at the upgrade price and changed my contract date, is on them. I gotta believe that me using the same SIM will not change anything further.

  • kevinh52

Moving to New DL Post http://www.droid-life.com/2013/09/30/so-is-verizon-going-to-let-you-keep-unlimited-data-and-upgrade/… Comments– I hope to keep unlimited….

  • Dustin Foreman

Ha I just realized that it dropped my unlimited data price from $29.99 to $24.59 lol. Unless that was always like that from my employee discount.

  • marcus

how are they seeing htis? when i go to upgrade it’s not asking me to switch to share everything, but its not allowing me to keep unlimited data… it’s saying it recommends switching to 2GB for 30$

  • chuck

i went on verizon wireless and activated to my new upgrade, without having the new phone in hand. verizon now has my new sim card activated on a unlimited plan, and i have screen shots to prove it now. the site says my new plan wont expire until 9/30/15. however, my account is kinda frozen now, my current phone doesn’t work, but i’ll see in two days if my strategy works. i found the glitch to their glitch.

    • chuck

or maybe they were intending to honor the new plans all along

    • Ben Baird

      This is classic…Nicely done sir

    • chris13417

I did this as well by mistake on the myverizon website. Had to call support and have the activation terminated so I could use my current phone until my Moto X is delivered.

  • Alexander Garcia

It’s a TRAP!!! If you have Unlimited Data and would like to keep it, do NOT renew your contract with this glitch. They will force you to a tiered plan once you activate your new phone.

    • DailyPlunge

      That’s an OPINION!!!! haha

    • Nathaniel_G

…And you can just return the phone within 14 days and get your plan back.

  • Scott

Well the shipment notification came. I was honestly waiting for a cancellation from Verizon. The downside is, I want to take the phone in and exchange it for something different. If that causes me to lose unlimited, then fine. Deep down, I’m wanting to make the switch to T-Mobile anyway.

    • Marco De Paulis

What phone did u order and what do u want to switch it to and why??

  • Lee Mclaurin

    My Droid Maxx Shipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ratamacue2

Why do you guys think that it will make any difference in the contract if we activate a new sim? The contract we signed up for will be included in the package that comes with the phone, and it’s already signed. Are you just thinking using an existing card may avoid a potential hassle?

    • jrbmed08

We’re not sure if they will somehow make us switch to tiered plans upon activation of the new SIM.

      • Ratamacue2

Gotcha. I should have a new Moto X in hand tomorrow, and I’m just going to use the sim they send me. I’ll honestly be surprised if there’s a problem, given how previous glitches have panned out.

        • moelsen8

yeah it’s gonna be interesting to see how this plays out. if you think about it, for all of us whose orders shipped – right now, we have a brand new phone that we paid veriuzon $1xx-$2xx for. hypothetically, what happens if we don’t activate it and just go on about our business? my contract end date is in 2015 and i still have unlimited data on my account. they’d basically have to reach out and ask for the phone back. i’m not sure there’s much they can do here once these things have shipped..

  • JustAGuess

I imagine that several Android sites have reached out to their PR contacts at Big Red to get an official statement, but I’m guessing they’re formulating the response to be clear so there’s no legal complications about it. πŸ˜‰

  • jrbmed08

My moto X has shipped! Contract end says 2015 and it still says unlimited. Now the question is whether I should try to activate the sim card they’re sending me or just get a cutter and cut mine…

    • Nathaniel_G

If my iPhone 5S ships I plan on using a nano SIM cutter on my current SIM

  • Ben Baird

My G2 has shipped and (I know, don’t trust customer service) two different reps have told me the same thing, My account still shows unlimited and I shouldn’t get prompted to change to tiered when I activate the phone. Should arrive on Oct 3, So I guess on the 4th I will activate and see what happens.

Edit: My contract has been extended to 2015 and unlimited is showing intact.

  • Daniel Flores

OK….Update here for people… I got shipping info and my contract date has been extended. But I wanted to point out. In device/SIM info. It only shows that they’re sending me the phone with no SIM. My other order that I used to upgrade my feature line show them shipping a device AND SIM. Maybe that’s how they’ll try to get people…when they activate a new SIM. Which is not necessary, just use old SIM…FYI

    • jrbmed08

They’re sending me a SIM, but perhaps it’s because I’m going from GNex to Moto X and they use different SIMs.

      • Daniel Flores

        Oh…OK cool.

    • Eric Soriano

When I was at the store, the CSR pulled the phone out of the box. I pulled the SIM from my ONE and when I pulled the tray from the Ultra there was a sim in there. I just put mine in. After it activated, i checked the verizon app and it showed the new phone and unlimited data. I would suggest using your old SIM if you have one.

      • moelsen8

does it still “activate” or some kind of process when you swap sims, or do you just swap them and turn it on and start using it?

        • Eric Soriano

The new phone fired right up and was showing 4G as soon as it got past the animation screen. Of course the CSR had to push all the damn buttons until it got to the GMAIL part of it then asked me to log in.

          • moelsen8

i hate that sh*t. just scan the box and hand it to me and don’t touch my new phone. and no, i don’t want verizon backup assist and all the other redundant BS.

  • James Cliff

Since people are getting their orders shipped and being charged (verbal contract), I would have to think Verizon will have to honor it. I wouldn’t trust any information coming from any of the brick-and-mortar stores.

  • Helpful citizen

i just tried to do the upgrade and it automatically told me that unlimited data is not available anymore. they closed the loop hole

  • moelsen8

i’m just really surprised this hasn’t been picked up by many site, if any at all, after yesterday. you’d think there would be another article today and it’d be stickied at the top of the site and developing..

    • truthful

I too have been surprised by that as well.

  • Isaiah Machiz

    sgs4 just shipped out :DDDDD

    • truthful

I ordered the sgs4 as well The reason I wanted it opposed to the LG g2 was because the volume button on the back. I am a runner and having no access to volume with a button on the side in running arm band is a big problem

      • Isaiah Machiz

im actually regretting it. Wish I’d gone with a g2. Picked the s4 for rom support.
The g2 you could probably change the volume while running just as easily. (just leave the volume button facing out from your arm)

        • truthful

But then i wouldn’t be able to change songs =)

  • Phil

Just an update from this morning. My order has been processed have a tracking number and already picked up by fedex. My contract has been extended until 2015 and the device has showed up on bill as i asked for that option. From what I can tell my plan has not changed

  • Jay F

My phone just shipped!!! It feels like a holiday with all this DL chatter. I’m glad to be apart of it. “I’m very happy to be hear!” (Prince Akeem voice) – HTC one.

  • lane

Bam! Shipped! tracking number and all.

    • lane

I paid extra for overnight shipping too

  • truthful

GOOD TO GO, received my shipping confirmation and unlimited data is still showing. Also my contract end date is now 2015! What a great day!

  • Mariah

i can never get the option to keep unlimited show up – i just keep missing it! But i’ve also never been given the option to sign up for Max either…so who knows.

  • rmh5280

So I got nervous and cancelled my original order which would have shipped my new G2 to my home, and then ordered again this morning (about 9:00 a.m. MST) with the option to pick it up at the Verizon store. The unlimited option was still active at that time. When I showed up at the Verizon store, they informed that my order had already shipped, and therefore I couldn’t pick the phone up and would have to wait for the other one to arrive. Weird since I had not received a shipping confirmation, and the rep on the phone told me she had cancelled the order. Anyway long story short, I just now received a shipping confirmation for Wednesday delivery. Checked my plan online, and it is still showing unlimited data, but my contract end date is now 2015, same as others have been reporting.

  • Jack

Okay, for some reason, I think the unlimited is working again. I tried last night at around 8 PM EST on an iphone 5s order and it didn’t work. I just tried like as of 2 PM EST today and it’s working.. WTF?

    • Sean

Do you have a single plan or family plan?

  • guest

so my phone has shipped and my contract online is showing new end date of 9/30/2015 with unlimited data still. Does anyone know if I will be forced to tiered data when I actually activate the device? Not surprisingly, the verizon rep i just chatted with gave me a completely different answer than the one I spoke to prior.

    • moelsen8

no, that’s what we’re all going to be waiting on whenever the first devices start to arrive. the consensus seems to be not to activate the new device, but to swap the sim from your old one. but who knows how this will go down yet.

  • Dustin Foreman
    • James Cliff

So it looks like if we are told otherwise, if we CALL into Verizon Customer Service (not walk into any brick-and-mortar store) they will honor the upgrade AND allow us to keep our unlimited data plans?

That’s what I’m getting from that Twitter post….

      • moelsen8

that twitter post was a few hours ago and who knows if it’s the official stance on this particular “glitch” or not. they seem to be as confused as we are about this. it’s kind of odd that verizon hasn’t acknowledged this situation yet. almost like they’re just gonna let this happen while denying it’s happening.

        • Dustin Foreman

Yah I’m just as lost as everyone else. Was just posting that cause that’s what I came across. I know lots of people have screen shots of orders showing unlimited data still intact and chat records of vzw stating you would not lose unlimited data upon activating the device.

      • Travis Keany

What am I missing — where is there information in that Twitter post that leads you to believe calling CS will get them to honor it?

I wish I knew what to do, my G2 is in the mail and will be here on Wednesday.

  • Angry&Upset

I have a feeling I’m going to get screwed and loose my unlim. data. Upon placing new orders (new every 2yr) they don’t let you know of the new plans. I was told and it was notated I could keep my 450 plan no problems what so ever. Which has now escalated into, yes we never talked you about the data. Now a supervisor is going to contact me to find a resolution. I whole heartedly said so your system works to pull the wool over customers eyes…..now the resolution?? (I don’t have a contract and can cancel) I always say they are wasting my time and now I’m wasting there’s.

    • Jacwhite22

HUH? What are you saying exactly?

  • Jeremy Wray

I haven’t heard a thing from Verizon outside of congrats on your new phone

  • Shaunwin

Verizon just needs to man up and honor these orders. They probably got somewhere around 1000 upgrades. That is nothing compared to the millions of other contracts. If they made a mistake, live and learn. They lost nothing on the extreme minimal amount of orders. Or they could use it to their advantage and use it as marketing. Look what we did for these good consumers.

  • truthful

Do you have to have a SIM cutter to cut Droid Bionic SIM to Galaxy S4 SIM?

  • Suralin

Just checked my order status. I have a fedex tracking number and my contract end date has been updated to 9/30/2015. I checked my features and it still says Unlimited Data. I guess that’s the first hurdle…

Edit: And before people ask – Moto-X, 9AM EST, 9/29.

    • Just for the sake of information overload… have they charged your creditcard yet? …supposedly that’s when the contract becomes binding. I’ve heard payment goes through immediately upon shipping.

      • Suralin

My credit card has been charged. On the receipt, there is the following notation that says returns must be made within 14 days, a restocking fee of $35, and credit for the activation fee if returned in 3 days.

  • James Cliff

    If it was a MISTAKE….that’s Verizon’s fault.

A contact is binding and everyone had to have signed a contract when placing their order.

I have a feeling the only ones that will keep their phones are the ones who are willing to spend the time and trouble to argue, fight, complain to Verizon’s management team.

I will be fighting to for my two upgrades….

    • Which is exactly what Verizon is counting on. …I’m there fighting with you though!

  • James Cliff

    CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

If you are told no…do not give up!

    • mec

after lawyers fees you might get $12/ea!

  • truthful

Does the droid bionic have the same SIM as Galaxy S4?

    • primarchlion

It’s larger. But it can be cut. Droid 4 and RAZR and the like have the same size SIM as GS4. My sister has a GS4, my mom a Droid 4, and myself a Bionic so I’m in the know =P

  • DailyPlunge

    Question about SIM

I noticed that the MOTO X is shipping with a SIM. I have a SIM in my Galaxy Nexus. Should I just use the GN SIM if it fits? What’s the drawback with using the SIM VZW shipped?

  • James Cliff

If money exchanges hands…meaning you were charged….that’s a contract.

    • mec

if you are fully reimbursed and restored to status quo, there are no damages.

      • James Cliff

Once the money exchanges hands the receiving party must honor the “verbal contract”.

If they don’t it will come down to whether the opposite party is willing to spend the time and money to legal pursue the matter…most people don’t.

        • mec

and when you pursue legal recourse, money was already refunded, what damages are you claiming? contracts exist to establish terms through which damages will be calculated.

          • James Cliff

You can’t opt out of a contract by simply providing a refund. If it were that simple people and corporations would do it all the time. There may have been a clerical mistake on Verizon’s end…but if money exchanged hands, that is a contract.

    • Tim242

They can change the terms of the contract. They just have to give you a get out of jail free card.

  • Daniel Flores

OK…awesome….I got a new contract date, and have the shipping info. Unlimited Data is still there. I will not try to activate the new SIM. I’m just gonna put in the one I have now in my Nexus.

    • Marco De Paulis

So, you’re saying, if you use the SIM u currently have they won’t mess around with the plan. Otherwise, if you use the new SIM, they will try and change your plan to tiered?

      • Daniel Flores

I don’t know for sure…But I’m not gonna try and find out till all this blows over. I’m just gonna use my current SIM and see what happens. Later after say 6 months to a year, I’ll ask to have my new SIM activated. Then I’ll see what they say.

        • Marco De Paulis

Good idea. Any benefits to using a new SIM?

          • Tim242

No. A SIM is a SIM.

        • Tim242

Why would you ever want to activate the other SIM? A SIM is a SIM. The Note 3 will be my 4th phone, using the same SIM.

          • Daniel Flores

Good Point…Guess I’ll just use this one forever…LOL

          • moelsen8

i’m curious, do you always order your new phones and have them shipped to you? or do you go in-store and tell them to use your old sim?

          • Tim242

I normally buy in store and just tell them I’ll use my current SIM..

    • Daniel Flores

This is so awesome…I have a feature line with an upgrade available…I can now upgrade my wife’s like too…when she’s ready…

  • Diar

DAMMIT. Verizon put my order on hold and told me to call in. I did and they said it’s on hold because I’d have to choose a new data plan. No debate. They weren’t budging. So I just canceled the order. I should have at least escalated it to see if I could keep it but oh well. It was a good try. Y’all lucky fools who picked up in store or who got tracking numbers today, enjoy.

    • mec

      when did you order?

    • Isaiah Machiz

What phone when did you order.

    • Question:

Could you give some updates on your situation? Family plan? Transferred upgrade? Eligible for an upgrade on single line?

    • Diar

I’m not on a family plan. I’m still under contract and am eligible for an upgrade on a single line with a Galaxy Nexus. I ordered late Saturday night, probably 11 pm. I’m not sure why I was flagged and others got tracking numbers this morning.

      • moelsen8

are you by chance one of those people using 100+gb / month? kind of serious question, i guess. they could be cherry picking based on who’s using what amount.

        • mec

thats a curious thing to consider. this might expalin why some see and some dont. let low users upgrade and build good will, under a “glitch”. and let heavy users slide to month to month and either boot them or keep their subsidies. I was able to order and I use about 3GB/month on average. my peak was a shade over 4.

        • Jacwhite22

Good thought. I use 5-8 and got a tracking number today…..hmm. I am on a single line.

        • Diar

I used to use an average of 15 gigs a month last year. But I’m on mostly wifi this year so my usage is about 2 to 4 gigs a month. I theorized above that maybe that started with folks like me who chose “bill to account” since we weren’t charged anything and our orders were the easiest to cancel.

          • moelsen8

i billed to account and ordered it yesterday morning. shipped at 11:30 today. there may be no reason at all, just them scrambling to cancel as many as possible before they ship out..

    • Diar

Oh, and I chose “bill to account” so maybe they just started with the easiest to cancel since I wasn’t charged anything.

  • truthful

I just received my order confirmation on the page, and it has the tracking number!!! IT IS CHRISTMAS Thank you Verizon IT DEPT!

  • mendy817

Just tried to pick up my phone in store and they refused to keep my unlimited, told me there was nothing they could do and were pretty rude about it. I called customer service and was told the same thing, I am waiting on the manager’s manager to call me back within 24-48 hours.

    • chris_johns

lol nobody is calling you back

  • DailyPlunge

Just received my shipment notification for the Moto X order from 5:51 pm yesterday.

    • Suralin

Nice. I ordered mine at 9 AM Est. I still haven’t gotten a notification. Maybe I’m screwed?

      • moelsen8

they’re probably just bombarded. i just got mine from 11AM EST about an hour, hour and a half ago. the notification email didn’t come until about 20 minutes ago. have you checked the order status directly? that’s how i knew at first.

        • Suralin

I have. It’s just saying check again.

          • moelsen8

            well, keep the faith.

          • Michael Tate

Why aren’t people selecting “in store pick-up” and getting it the same day they place their order online? That way it ensures you’re getting your device without any chance of VZW not sending your device or holding up your activation process.

I picked my new MAXXs up in store yesterday. Got a print out from the counter as well showing my plans were still “Unlimited Data”!

          • rune

I selected in-store pickup and they said there was no way they could do the transaction with me retaining unlimited data. Despite the fact I ordered online, had the new “contract” agreed to, when I went to the store they ignored all that. Store manager was involved as well. They would not budge from the “no way to keep unlimited data with a subsidized phone”, even with my printout. Very rude about the whole thing as well.

          • Michael Tate

Did you mention anything about it to the store clerk/manager? I didn’t say a word … just walked in and said I was there to pick up my new phones. No questions asked. I even asked for a copy of my new agreement before I left (see below). No problems at all for me.

          • mec

i actually did not have an option to do in store pickup.

          • Michael Tate

It’s sort of hidden if you’re not looking for it. It’s not at the “shipping” line … it’s above in the top of the page when checking out. There’s a link for in store pick up.

          • moelsen8

i’d rather deal with an automated system than chance getting some store manager loyal to the company who’s on a power trip.

          • Tim242

A lot of stores are refusing.

  • Notloggedin

I’m betting there are going to be some subtle differences that will cause problems for some people. Consider just a few of the combinations…. 1) single line, eligible for upgrade, using same SIM 2) older family plan, transfering upgrade, using same SIM 3) older family plan, eligible for upgrade, need new SIM due to size (old thunderbolt)..

    • mec

I’m older family plan, eligible for upgrade, and need a new sim. one was in the box that was shipped… i guess we will see what happens.

  • truthful

Has anyone spoken to an agent or customer rep today after their order has already been placed for any info?

    • moelsen8

i think we’ve established that they’re just as clueless as us. probably more clueless.

  • Jacwhite22

Mine just shipped……Guess I’ll see what happens.

    • Isaiah Machiz

what phone and when did you order haha…

      • Jacwhite22

        Moto X – Yesterday Morning.

  • jack

My order is marked as shipped, checked contract end date and upgrade date both set at 9/30/2015, Plan info still shows unlimited data. Fingers crossed.

    • Isaiah Machiz

      device/order time?

      • jack

White Moto X on Sunday slightly after midnight

    • truthful

      Yes when did you order?

    • Disneyland27

Same here but I’m not opening it until I hear official word from Verizon. I ordered a SIM cutter too (same one from the article post here a while back). and it comes the day as the phone. Droid Maxx ordered yesterday 9:45 AM. I was going to save up money and buy the developer edition but when I saw this yesterday I had to look into it. Been eligible for an upgrade for like a year and a half. I’m so happy but freaking out at the same time. This goes out to Verizon and only needs two words. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGJgyuAu6eo

This is Verizon’s reason for this “glitch”
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8LXiHg-rBc

  • Soccerplayer

Is the Unlimited option still available on the website or in the store? My parents need new phones and want them to keep their Unlimited data but would hate for them to get duped by VZW.

Can anyone confirm the Unlimited option is still available?

    • truthful

It is not available anymore. It ended last night around 6pm ET

      • Scott

It was working again this morning. Have you not read?

        • truthful

I ordered my phone yesterday so I wasn’t too concerned =)

  • mec

So, in my package is a new Sim. Do I get pinched when I try to activate that? Should I just cut mine down and toss the new one?

    • Manuel Alvarado

      that’s the general consensus, yes.

    • moelsen8

i think this might be the million dollar question

    • Isaac

try and activate the new one and report back your results.

      • moelsen8

or be smart and wait for another sucker to play guinea pig.

        • mec

          i like this guy.

      • JDotAdam

They activated the SIM that was in my Moto X in the store yesterday. Everything worked fine. New contract end year is 2015 and I’m still holding on to unlimited data.

    • Rich Robinson

I had a Galaxy Nexus and yesterday bought a G2. There is no removable SIM (so I was told) and they activated a new SIM inside. I still show unlimited data today on my Verizon Wireless Account!

      • Daniel Flores

That’s not true…You can remove the SIM on the G2. IT is that size as the one on the Nexus. Check the side of your G2…Left side…SIM is there…FYI.

        • Isaac

I thought the nexus has a micro, and the G2 has a nano

          • Daniel Flores

            No…G2 is a Micro…saw this myself.

        • Rich Robinson

This is true – found it out after I purchased it. I’ve read though that the SIM is meaningless to the account details/plan…

          • mec

and this is the important part! thanks for the info.

    • Suralin

That’s my question. I have a Razr and I want to know if cutting the sim didn’t work, would I be able to get a new sim with unlimited data for my razr. My friend said they give them for free so I think that’s a half-hearted “yes”.

  • truthful

This to me proves I have the right to order this without worry.

    • truthful

I have more screen shots too of the entire conversation and check out process from each page.

      • Sean

When did you order it? Or are you ordering it through customer service?

        • truthful

I ordered it yesterday at 5pm

    • Guest

The first part of the convo

  • VZW Trap

I didn’t try the upgrade to see if it let me keep my unlimited, but if I did and VZW canceled it, then I would charge them an ETF. How you like them apples?

  • r4nd0m

Ok so, here are my results on ordering a G2: No shipping confirmation email, but checked my account and it just shipped today (delivery Wednesday). My contract end date now shows as 9/30/2015, and my plan doesn’t appear to have been touched from what I can see online.

I’m not familiar with the online activation process, but if you go through it does it prompt you to do anything with your plan? It actually lets me go through the process but I don’t want to accidentally keep clicking “Next” and then be stuck with my current phone being inactive since I don’t have the new one in hand yet.

    • moelsen8

i’m guessing the safest way is to take the sim out of your old phone and put it into the new one, bypassing the whole activation process itself. at least that’s what i take it others will be doing, and until we hear otherwise that activating it may be safe. i’m just gonna sit back and watch this play out until I even open the box.

      • r4nd0m

Ok thanks. And yeah, same here… Not touching the box until we hear some results.

  • truthful

It’s like Christmas in September right now! I hope this all works out!

  • Manuel Alvarado

Well, looks like my order shipped (LG G2 Saturday night). Never received the email others are claiming about agreeing to a 2gb data term. No change so far to data (still showing unlimited), but the contract end date has been changed to 9/30/2015.

    • Dustin Foreman

Same for me here. Shows updated contract date. Never got anything about changing my data plan.

  • chuck

My status went from being shipped yesterday back to processing. I am not the account owner, I hope my dad didn’t change any features without telling me if those emails go directly to him.

    • chuck

*the status earlier this morning was the phone was shipped on 9/29/2013, however no tracking number was given. a few minutes afterwards, the status changed back to processing

  • truthful

I still have not received a shipping confirmation and I ordered yesterday at 5pm

    • Suralin

Likewise. I wonder how many orders are backlogged… I know I’m checking religiously.

      • Daniel Flores

Same here…I keep checking to see status…nothing…

  • Daniel Flores

What happens if/when I get the new phone that I ordered, I just put in my current SIM. That won’t mess with my plan, and I still would have purchased the phone at upgrade price…No need to activate new SIM…just a thought.

  • Sean

Someone please let me know when the glitch happens again!

  • Preach2k

I am not willing to take a chance with my Unlimited. I am cancelling.

    • Tim242

      You scared bro?

      • Preach2k

Yes I do not want to lose my unlimited plan. I will wait until the end of the day to see what happens. I will call Verizon Rep if I don’t like what I hear I will cancel. Verizon is going all out to get our unlimited plans. I never got so many emails and calls to upgrade my phone.

    • DailyPlunge

Just return the phone. You have 14 days.

    • Suralin

They can revert you back to your old plan within those 14 days. You have that option to get out of the contract and the new phone.

  • DJyoSNOW

And the rep notated my account I could stay on the 450 unlimited data & text plan. Also I used the verizon30 which worked. So I guess upon activation will be the true test…deal so far but have to see it to believe it just yet.

  • Preach2k
    • Suralin

What does it say for those of us who don’t care to have a login for Android Central?

      • Preach2k

Verizon is going to push all to the 2GB plan.

    • grumpypants

Link is not working for me but I assume you are referring to this:

      https://twitter.com/VZWSupport/status/384681847533232129

Hope our orders go through still but I’m getting nervous about loosing my unlimited – I may chicken out and cancel this afternoon just to be sure.

    • sadfas

That could just be another canned response from the drone managing the twitter feed at that time… look how many people have gotten conflicting responses from various CSR’s. One guy said he went to do a store pick up and they said no way, did another store and walked out fine.

    • Tim242

Not buying it. Too many people have been successful.

      • Scott

I agree. Until there’s an official statement on Verizon’s website anything their reps or twitter accounts say don’t mean anything.

        • Agreed. Even if they do come out with an official statement, they’ll be careful in their wording. There’s still a good chance they’ll honor unlimited for some of us from. Just posting this to save face.

    • Eikast

FYI, VZW support deleted that tweet. I don’t see it on their twitter account.

  • ranlil

So many people think they are screwing VZW by taking advantage of this. Just think how many people are paying $30 for 2 Gig and are not even using half of it.

  • fritzo

anyone else get this email after upgrading?: “Your feature change is complete. Your feature(s) and/or promotions change request for wireless number ending in #### is now complete.

    Feature Effective Date: 09/29/13

Thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.”

checked my plan, still unlimited. and my phone order hasn’t shipped yet.

    • moelsen8

      negative

  • chris_johns

Im depressed…whyyy didnt i check droid-life this weekend :(…i woulda bagged a black moto x(even though i truly want motomaker made x) to keep unlimited data ina second

    • Omar Amer

it is entirely possible that these people may end up getting prompts when activating their line to change their data plan. we dont know really til people start receiving them.

      • Tim242

A prompt? Thrvplan is tied to the SIM. Swap SIM, and go.

        • moelsen8

can’t wait til people confirm this. then i can’t wait for my nano sim cutter to arrive!

  • moelsen8

and just like that, mine switched from processing to shipped.. been checking it feverishly. ordered sunday morning probably around 11.

    • rwp5028

mine just shipped as well. Contract end data with unlmited 9/30/2015

      • Isaiah Machiz

        what phones?! haha

        • rwp5028

G2, just gonna swap in my Gnex sim when it arrives, shouldn’t have to activate and nothing should change

          • moelsen8

i was wondering about that. i thought someone today said you can’t just do that, it *has* to be activated

          • Isaiah Machiz

            nope

        • moelsen8

moto x for wifey. i got a moto X GSM DE coming in mail soon for myself. if this happens, we’re going to be huge dorks together with the same phone.

  • Edwin M

Am I still able to transfer my upgrade to another line and keep my unlimited?

  • chris_johns

People be careful because it may look like its working n may not be…few times i tried only half did it do a pop up promt id lose my unlimited…other times they added it sneakily on the bottom

  • Scott

I just checked my order online and it says it is still being processed. Check back tomorrow. My credit card is charged so Big Red needs to make up the mind on whether or not they are shipping this and honoring the “glitch”

  • Droid_Junky

Received an email that requires me to agree to the new terms (included the 2gb plan) before they shipped the phone. So order declined. I pay $23 a month for unlimited and use 8 to 10gb a month. No way I’m going to pay 7 bucks more for only 2gb and constantly have to worry about going over. Bye–bye Verizon……

    • Scott

What phone did you order and when did you order it?

      • Droid_Junky

LG G2. Ordered it when there was less that 100 replies on the first article.

        • Charles Hobbs

LG G2 here, ordered at 9pm saturday night, and just got the email saying IT SHIPPED!!!!!

    • moelsen8

can you post a screenshot? i’ve heard a bunch of people referring to this but no one has shown the email itself.

      • Droid_Junky

Reply is above. Wish this site had an app!

    • Droid_Junky

I’m at work. Hard enough typing this in the phone browser. It’s basically the same screen that you see at checkout except now the 2gb plan is checked. Then a approve or deny button. Email said deny will cancel the order.

  • Daniel Flores

OMG…this is such crap…A rep just told me that my order seemed to go through and I’ll keep unlimited data. This Better Be True! Such inconsistencies.. I’m gonna wait till I get both devices, and activate my unlimited. Also…there shows no change in ‘My Verizon’ still have same contract dates for both lines I updated…I’ll check later today.

  • DailyPlunge

Can people quit posting “what my sales rep said” stuff. They’re clueless. There’s no official word.

  • Jay

A SAles rep is saying I will be switched to 2GB upon activating the phone

  • mec

device has shipped… new contract date, account still shows unlimited.

    • Scott

What device did you order? I’m wondering how the Note 3 pre-orders are going to play out.

      • mec

        moto x. braces for flaming.

        • Isaiah Machiz

          when did you order?

          • mec

            9/28, about 8:30pm or so…

          • Isaiah Machiz

cool. I ordered at about 11 but no ship notice yet. SGS4

why doesn’t the moto x have a rom community? Too new?

            Congrats!!!!

          • mec

too new? more like too locked, amiright.

            order confirmation is 8:13pm…

i never received shipping notice, i hopped online and checked my orders. tracking says picked up by fedex at 9:39 AM today

          • Isaiah Machiz

lmao. That’s actually why I went sgs4. Gotta have the aokpness
            Kinda wishing I’d gone G2

    • Isaiah Machiz

      which device?

      • mec

        see below

    • fritzo

when did you make your order?

    • chris_johns

the real question is when u go to activate it…they gonna be like ok your gonna be signing up for our AMAZING NEW SHARE EVERYTHING PLAN! ONLY 30 A MONTH AND U HAVE UNLIMITED CALLING AND TEXTING…..and a 2gig data cap

      • mec

maybe, but i dont see how… unless i’m provided with a piece of paper that says that in the box… they cant bind me to that term without altering my contract. Its not shown on-line, and i dont really need to do anything to activate the device…

      • Tim242

Enough with the “activating.”. It’s the SIM that activates. If you already have a SIM, plug it in and done.

        • xrzx

Again, what if you don’t have a SIM phone currently? I’m coming from an iPhone 4…

  • Lewis Erbe

I just tried this at 10:52am Eastern and it is no longer availabe. Goes right to the screen that says “Unlimited is no longer an option choose a terrible new Share Plan”.

  • Preach2k

Those that are going to wait and see after placing orders doing the loophole. be careful some are going in to cancel right now because Verizon is telling some of those that placed their order will only get 2gb of data. So some are canceling. Just be careful…

    • Tim242

They, like you are just trying to scare people. ,

    • Nathaniel_G

Even if they do switch your plan you still have 14 days to return the phone and get your plan switched back.

      • Preach2k

I know but I do not want to go through restocking fees. I will just do it the right way and keep my unlimited. I will pay full price.

  • Bassdj

My dad pre ordered a Note 3 with unlimited data!

    • Scott

I did too. Hope this pans out.

  • rmh5280

I just place an order today (9/30) and the option to upgrade with unlimited is still available at Verizon online. I am picking up a new G2 at the store this morning and will ask them to verify the unlimited data before I take it home. I will let you know how that goes πŸ™‚

  • DailyPlunge

My order went through on 5:51pm EST yesterday. I received a confirmation yesterday, and the just sent another confirmation at 10:06 with basically the same information. Unlimited is still good.

    • tyguy829

      was yours a pre-order?

    • DailyPlunge

Just noticed that my order number has changed in the 2nd email. Is that standard? I ordered the Moto X.

  • guyinmass

Looks like the loophole is closed again. I wasn’t prompted to change my ULD plan online at 10:30 AM EDT. It is not 10:45 AM EDT and the website is now saying that I will have to choose a tiered data plan

it means they closed it again. if you look at the bottom of the screen that says that, notice it says REMOVED FEATURES: then lists your unlimited. don’t do it.

      • chris420o

        figured…thanks

    • ToddAwesome

Mind if I call you so we can discuss this?

      • James Heyneman

        haha

      • chris420o

and i thought i could trust my fellow droid life community members to be mature and respectful to each other….tisk tisk

        • ToddAwesome

Seriously, my sarcastic one liner was very immature, unlike your username.

          • chris_johns

i was joking buddy…and I just realized you can change ur user name…was my old aol email from when i was 12 i use for all online junk so dont get sensitive because u see a 420 there ooooh noooo must be a pothead…i dont smoke

      • chris420o

Was a good one though…nice catch lol and ty for pointing it out

  • John Arnst

I can still upgrade and keep my unlimited data but I’m a little weary of it.

  • James Heyneman

It’s still showing unlimited data for me, where the hell do I enter the discount code? I don’t see any sort of discount box.

    • It’s not available for all models… not for pre-orders for example.

      • James Heyneman

I was trying the Galaxy S4. I just now tried to go through on the Moto X and now it says the ordering page is unavailable. I hope they aren’t fixing it.

    • moelsen8

      look for “promo code”

  • chris420o

When i upgrade…i dont see a data plan listed at all…i redid the whole thing on the bottom it says removing items(unlimited data/email) bc not compatable….so be careful i dont know if its really back

  • Ted

Just upgraded and never asked to pick a data plan. Appears to have kept the old one.

    • chris420o

yeah but i didnt complete my order because i saw NO dataplan listed at all…scared me like it removed it but didnt add another one

  • pappy53

For those wondering when the 14 day period begins, it starts when you receive the phone. It plainly states that in the red “book” that comes with the shipment.

    • It may say that, but the actual date is calculated from when the shipment started… not when you open the box. Easier for Vzw to track it that way.

So beware if you receive it 3 days after it shipped… you may only have 11 days.

      • TheOneGuy

the good thing about that though is you should be able to return it to and Verizon wireless retailer

      • pappy53

It does say that, and the date is actually calculated from the receipt date. You will not get penalized for shipping time, as the phone is not in your possession. It doesn’t matter when you “open the box”, it’s when you receive it. Why else would they put that in the brochure? How can you try it for 14 days if it is not in your hands?

  • nelson

    Is back at 9:31 CT

  • moelsen8
  • fritzo

yeah, this “glitch” seems to be back. Yesterday i checked it and it went straight to the data picking page, today, nope. Simulated order of a Moto X. Try it and see.

  • I’m dying for an update to this story…

I pulled the trigger on a Note3 and status just shows ship date 10/10… no change to my unlimited so far…

I’ve been following XDA also, but no updates as far as I can see.

  • Daniel Flores

Verizon was very helpful…NO UNLIMITED UPGRADES WILL BE HONORED…just spoke with them. Now, if you have your phone already with receipt of contract, you’re good. But if you did it online and have not received it, your upgrade will not be honored. This is a glitch that they are aware of, and are going through the orders placed. Spoke with a very nice lady that found out all the info and asked around. She was with me in saying that there will be a lot of angry people about this.

    • TheOneGuy

supposedly the glitch is working again. I’m starting to think its not really a glitch at all.

    • Jacwhite22

You do realize every rep is singing a different story correct?

    • Shaunwin

I think this is going to be one of those deals where some get upgraded and some will not.

    • Sundeep S

She may be right, or may be not! and like others have mentioned, Reps may know nothing of this yet, and are trying to play it safe by not encouraging you to get on board with this. Well, i guess time will tell.

    • Daniel Flores

I went through the upgrade process. It did not list a data plan in the final checkout. Stated my line would cost $15. With $10 access, and $5 insurance…no data listed. I’m on hold now with a Rep to cancel my order. She is seeing if I can still update and keep UDP. Last rep told me no after checking and sent me to ‘Online Orders’ to cancel. This rep is helping.

    • Sean F.

So just to be clear I picked up my droid maxx yesterday, I should be ok then… Since I have my renewal and phone.

      • Scott

If you have your device in hand, I’d say you’re in the clear.

    • Smeckle

Hopefully this is true…but we will all find out soon enough, I’m guessing. Unless VZW decide to be total dicks and wait until after the 14-day return period to announce contract nullification.

    • Tim242

That means nothing. They all say something different. What they say is not official word.

  • Brock fletcher

I think the verizon guy screwed me went to cancel order on other phone and I think he canceled the glitch one πŸ™

  • Joshua Bailey

Glad I stayed away from the temptations…TMo here I come with new Nexus 4 for me and Moto X for the wife.

    • Tim242

Nexus 4 is sold out. Maybe you can get a new Nexus 5 instead.

      • Joshua Bailey

“New” Nexus 4…as in the new model Nexus 4. Not convinced it will be called the Nexus 5 yet.

        • Tim242

The Nexus 4 was named on generation #, not its almost 5″ display. They certainly won’t call the new Nexus, Nexus 4, with its 5″ display.

          • Joshua Bailey

Don’t care what its called…it shall be mine. Lol.

  • moelsen8

this is all really weird. wifey’s order is still processing. nothing’s changed here yet. very suspenseful!

  • Sundeep S

Yeah, didn’t think so! Verizon cancelled my order too!

    • Daniel Flores

Just wondering how you found out about your order being canceled? Did they email you? Can others post that if/when they got their order canceled?

      • Sundeep S

Sorry Daniel, i just double checked, and my order hasn’t been cancelled yet. Yesterday I placed an order (order a) and i haven’t received a confirmation email for this order. I called them and had them cancel this order and placed another order (order b) on the internet. interestingly, I got an email this morning about cancelling order “a” not order “b”. I got both an email and a text message. I was quick to jump to conclusion that Verizion did it!!! πŸ˜€

        • Daniel Flores

Ok…I updated a line on Saturday…wondering if I should cancel that order and upgrade my unlimited line….ugh!

          • Sundeep S

if the system still lets you do it, i think you should. there’s nothing you can lose! they may honor it, or cancel and revert your changes. at which point you can do as you would have done if glitch hadn’t occurred.

          • Daniel Flores

How do I cancel an order I put in on Saturday…

          • Sundeep S

Call them. The rep cancelled it for me in a heart beat. Just tell them you’ve changed your mind about the phone you’re getting and you need him to cancel the order so that you can go online to place a new order.

  • Graham Wilson

Its showing up for working for me this morning. Said I was still keeping unlimited data.

  • msokad

Looks like the unlimited data package is still available if you try to upgrade on-line.

  • Preach2k

Some people on some of the forums orders are being canceled by Verizon after the glitz got fixed.

  • Brock fletcher

    And Verizon cancelled my order:(

    • Scott

Did you get an email or something?

  • Kyle

Has anyone that Upgraded gotten a text/email stating you needed to accept new terms before your device would ship? I did, and it shows I still have unlimited…. I’m concerned about getting moved to tier by accepting this.

  • David Benson

Still showing up for me. I tried at 7am this morning and it was gone. Just tried again at work at 9:25am and it is not there again. Weird

  • Armus

I agree, it was a trap. When the new phone comes in they will axe the unlimited data. “Sorry we don’t offer that any more”. Then try to return the phone and they still don’t let you go back to your unlimited plan. Only safe option is buy it out right.

  • DailyPlunge

So apparently the glitch is up an running again?

    • Scott

Mine worked first try this morning. I was bummed because I knew I should have jumped on this last night.

  • Scott

Yeah I waited until last night and missed it. Tried it this morning and BOOM! 9:03 AM EST

  • Suralin

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Verizon is rebranding their 6GB data plan for us unlimited users as the “Unlimited” data plan?

  • fitzgerald52

I just did it a few minutes ago

  • Phil

next question is where I can purchase the motorola skip pack at?

  • Phil

Its 830am on 9/30/2013 on the east coast i was just able to order a moto x with the verizon 30 discount code and was ABLE TO KEEP MY UNLIMITED DATA. it did not ask me to choose a new plan.

  • Super Shep

Ordered online, Picked up in store, Now have unlimited on a Moto X

  • tabsaz

Can someone actually confirm for certain when exactly the 14 day period to refund and revert to your old plan / phone starts? I saw someone on a different site tonight saying that it’s from the time you place the order. If that’s true then that period’s going to be up before a lot of people even get their phones. It says Ships by 10/10 for the Note 3 I ordered, but that’s cutting it pretty close assuming the shipping takes 2 days etc.

    • Tim242

It’s from time of shipment, which is when the contract is extended.

  • Erin

Verizon customers can they still upgrade their phones and keep unlimited data plan or did they fix the glitch?

    • Tony Kuligowski

you realize your asking this on a story that says they fixed the “glitch”

      • Erin

I wanted to know the answer if it was fixed or not lol

        • ToddAwesome

  • M3D1T8R

I placed my Moto X order nearly 24 hours ago, got the immediate email confirming my order (was able to charge it to my account), which is supposed to be shipped to me free 2-day, but when I check my order status I get:

    Order Status:

The status of your order is not available yet.
    Please check again later.

Hopefully it’s just because it’s Sunday and it will go through tomorrow. Anyone else have the same situation?

    • Sean F.

Well I picked up my Droid Maxx today from store and it was all good. The receipt even shows unlimited on the plan details.

      • M3D1T8R

Yeah I’ve read all the comments. I’m wondering about people who chose to have the device shipped to them instead of to the store, if they’ve received any update on their order status yet.

        • Suralin

Yeah, I had it shipped because there were stories of some stores not honoring the online orders. I figured it was safer to just have it shipped with the nanosim. Maybe I was wrong? :

    • Tim242

Yes. Orders will process Monday, order will ship, and your contract will renew at that time. That’s if they don’t cancel the orders instead : /

  • StandardXI

Intact. How could I take any of this seriously after that?

  • Sean F.

So I picked up my Droid Maxx and discovered that because of the change to the new phone and new SIM they had to activate my phone and cancel out my old one upon pickup. Was a real PITA as I intended to just pickup and swap SIM’s from my Droid Razr Maxx. I’ve checked my account and it is still showing with an “Unlimited” data plan, so it appears to be working just fine, but I’m REALLY conflicted. I’d rather return the phone and save my plan than fight with verizon over it, since i’m still within the 14 day grace period.

Additionally, I have a chat log and confirmation screens of the order and I’ve also verified on my bill it shows “Unlimited Data” on the receipt. So I think I’m well within my rights to make a stink if I want to. However here’s my question… lets say they resolve this and decide everyone has to switch. Do they do the switch to tiered at the next billing date? In which case we will be screwed as we’re past the 14 days return. How do they typically handle the swap from Unlimited to Tiered currently? Just invalidate the old and activate the new?

I’d really like to know their current process with the regular switches they do, as it might give some idea of what VZW will do.

    • JDotAdam

People did this well over a week ago and are in the clear. I think we’re likely fine. It’s a small handful of customers. I doubt Verizon will raise a stink.

  • outgoingbot

I upgraded 5 times somehow. so i have 5 phones being shipped to me this week. LOL. paid 180$ each. wonder if i actually get any. funny thing, I only have 1 line. either way i dont really care. I received 3 emails (of 5 purchases) that my order will be processed within 3 days, i got 5 emails with purchase confirmation numbers. my guess is they are gonna cancel 3 of my orders or all 5.

I kept buying them and it kept saying eligible for upgrade. thanks for that verizon

did anyone else try buying more then one upgrade?

If you didnt jump on this then you have no sense of adventure. who knows where this will go, vice president of the continental united states of america??

    joebidenphone.com – 250 minutes!!! for EMERGENCY(see drug deals)

    • Tim242

They will cancel all but one of them. They don’t set the contract or charge your card until it ships.

  • JanetMiller88

my best frends brother just got a 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Coupe only from working online… visit this site eΒΒΒxΒiΒtΒ3Β5Β.ΒcΒoΒm

  • jrbmed08

Here’s what I don’t understand…I placed my initial order today for in-store pickup of a Moto X, but got shot down by the VZW rep, so I reordered online to have it shipped. I got an order confirmation with an order number via email, but my contract end date did not change online, and my phone is still showing up as upgrade eligible when I log in. I presume the contract and upgrade eligibility will change when I activate the new phone. Once they send me my phone, people are saying I can just put the old SIM card into the new phone and start using it. But supposedly Verizon hasn’t charged my credit card yet or put my new contract into effect (as it had not the first time when I had chosen the pickup option). So unless I go through some sort of online activation, how does Verizon know I’ve received the phone and started using it, so it can set a contract end date? Maybe someone here can clarify this for me, because I guess I’m just not getting something.

    • Tim242

They will charge your card and set your contract at time of shipment. When you get it, you just put your SIM in.

      • jrbmed08

OK, so the real moment of truth happens when they ship. Thanks…now that I know when they actually charge and do the contract extension, what people are saying about the SIM exchange makes a lot more sense now. I’ve never actually ordered a phone online, so I’m new to this whole thing. I’ve activated a warranty replacement phone, and that required going through an online process, but that’s the extent of my experience.

        • Tim242

That will certainly be the moment of truth. We all have our fingers crossed. Just an FYI, if your address has a line 2, it probably won’t be in your shipping address. It left my apt # off, even though it was on my account. If that is the case, you will have to have FedEx hold it for you to pick up.

          • jrbmed08

I always put my apartment number in the first line in case that happens! But sometimes it’s actually better to have Fedex hold packages than deliver it to my apartment building’s office, which closes at 6PM when I’m usually still at work. The local Fedex is open later. It’s nice that they sign for packages, but I’ve often had to wait until Saturday to get something that was supposed to be delivered earlier in the week. So hopefully that won’t happen since the phone has an ETA of Wednesday.

          • Tim242

Be sure to check your confirmation email if you don’t do a hold. I put the apartment number in the first line on my second upgrade. It was cut off. I put APT 603, the email says APT 6. Ugggh!

          • jrbmed08

Bummer! Hopefully it won’t be a big problem for you. Looks like it’s all there on my confirmation. Thanks for the tip though.

  • Ludwig Leota

I did. I did it today around 2pm. I was, supposedly, able to keep my unlimited plan and upgrade to an HTC One phone. However, I am paying a full price on it through the Verizon Edge program. I hope it works out. The worst case scenario is that I have to send it back. Oh well. Crossing my fingers.

  • tyguy829

What phone is that in the picture?

    • Josh Speed

looks like the rear end of a crackberry

  • JDH1969

Regarding suit; if you have enough money, you can sue anyone for anything. Mandatory arbitration does not stop all suits against Verizon, a Judge still has final say. Plus, if you trip up a rep on the phone and record it, it will hold up in a court of law. Good day all.

  • D Nice

This is one of the reasons why I left them suckers and went to T-mobile.

    • Scott

How’s the coverage? I travel all over, so I need it to work in more just the town I live in.

      • D Nice

Payup I won’t lie to you it can be better and it is getting better. I would have a rep look up the places you go to on a regular basis and see how the coverage is (research, research, research) this method is very accurate. I’m very pleased myself, the data coverage isn’t as impeccable as VZW but it’s on its way to being better.

  • PayUp

A slightly different perspective on the matter, say Verizon decides to honor this sudden flood of upgrades and deal with a whole bunch of people on newer, fancier devices who will be pulling down unlimited data from their network for 2 more years. Maybe they decide to introduce some other superfluous fee or raise prices on data or services to recoup their losses, and we’ll all just further vilify them as the big evil phone corporation.

For all the wrongs Verizon has done over the past few years I’m not saying I’m against a few people scoring an unlimited upgrade for themselves this weekend, but I kinda have mixed feelings seeing how ravenously the community all tried to jump on something that has widely been acknowledged as probably being a mistake or a glitch. You can justify it all you want or compare it to a mislabeled price on a store shelf, but in the end it all rolls down hill and maybe Verizon customers will end up paying the price for this mistake anyway.

And it’s been hilarious to see all the people acting so confident and defiant about how they have their screenshots and conversations printed out. For one thing it shows you’ve never read your contract. Verizon can change whatever they want, and the only out you have is that you’re allowed to leave the contract, but you’re not going to strong arm them into upholding the terms of what was offered to you just because you printed it out. They can change terms, and they will if they want to. Read your contract before acting all high and mighty about what you printed out or how much of a fight you’re going to put up with some poor Verizon employee come Monday, you come off like a real dbag.

Ultimately I’m just left with a creepy feeling about this sense of entitlement that consumers have these days. “I know this is wrong but I printed out this screenshot that says otherwise, so I’m good”. Such a simple tenet of life, treat others as you wish to be treated. Would you want a flood of hundreds of people taking advantage of you because you made a mistake? And this sure as hell wasn’t a “promotion” or it would have been advertised.

Good luck everyone. I might just laugh a little if it’s announced that they won’t be allowing these to go through.

    • SD

I was thinking the same thing last night. Think about it – if Verizon honors this ‘glitch’: while there were a ton of unlimited customers that took advantage of this, there are many more who did not. Verizon would be putting itself on a slippery slope, because what would stop other customers from demanding the same type of upgrade? I’m not saying that Verizon would have to honor it (for those who missed out this weekend), but still…it’ll make it even harder for them to do away with unlimited plans.

Ultimately, I see Verizon offer to accept returned phones, and allow customers to keep their unlimited plans. No inside information, just a guess.

I’ve been a customer for 13 years. Yeah, there’s good and bad. But from a quality standpoint, I feel like you get what you pay for. To date, I haven’t had an issue with customer service or quality of service. The only issue I ever had was the delaying of the GNex – but that was just me being impatient.

Either way, good luck everybody. I know that no matter what the answer is from Verizon, some group won’t be happy. It’ll be interesting to see who that group is…

      • It would really just be bad PR for Verizon at this point.
Imagine Verizon telling 10,000 customers that they need to return their new devices.

Companies make mistakes like this all the time. Remember when:
-BestBuy gave five iPads to the lady who ordered one
-Razer honored the half off coupon even though it was never supposed to be leaked to the public

People remember things like this. If Verizon honors the deal, they have to let a few more people stay on unlimited but it may positively influence public perception of the company. It may end up ultimately benefiting them.

        • Robert Macri

Also they would have a lot of Refurb devices on their hands.

        • Todd Brown

Yeah. but how many of those devices have actually even been shipped out? They won’t have to deal with the returns, unless you went and picked it up in the store.

          • Joe

Yes, like many of us did.

    • C-Law

I went through the process twice today, had my credit card entered and screenshots taken and just needed to hit submit. I could not get myself to pull the trigger though

    • Chris Hannan

      +∞

I mean, poor Verizon with all these people trying to take advantage of them. πŸ™

      • NemaCystX

yeah, poor verizon they can’t rip us off of all our money when this should still be available.

        • Chris Hannan

They’re only the second most profitable carrier in the world. They’ll never be first with all these greedy customers.

    • calculatorwatch

I agree with you that people who think they’re pulling a fast one on Verizon probably need a reality check, they’re either gonna be nice and let you keep unlimited data or they’re gonna make you choose between a tiered data plan or returning your phone, simple as that.

However, I think you got a little off-track when you suggested that Verizon would need to “recoup their losses”… there’s no such thing as losses when you’re Verizon, only fewer profits. What I really mean is I think there’s a reason why everyone is so defiant against Verizon which is that they feel they’re being systematically screwed over as it is. Most of us don’t think Verizon really cares about their customers well-being so we’re happy to take advantage of mistakes because we don’t really care about Verizon’s well-being, the golden rule in action.

      • MikeCiggy

The real problem I see with Verizon taking the return your phones and get a refund plan is for all of the people who have their phones already because of in store pick-up. Verizon can no longer sell those devices as brand new.

  • NexusMan

It’s been so long that I’ve been stuck on this damn phone…I forgot…Moving forward, is Verizon still allowing you to keep your Unlimited plan if you buy a phone off contract? Or will buying a phone at full retail not even save your unlimited plan anymore?

    • Omar Amer

no, verizon cant stop you from buying off contract and moving your service over. you can do that forever or until verizon forces you off unlimited data, whichever comes first.

      • its just a matter of time.

I have one line unlimited and two without. All three have upgrades, but i’m worried about locking any of them in for another two years and then they strong-arm me out of my unlimited line.

        • but man i’d love to uprade to a note three. the pain.

  • Josh Speed

I was one of those that got in under the ‘glitch’ wire and just canceled my pre-order. I smell a rat here- I called customer service and they said if I go to activate I’ll be pushed to the 2gb plan. Theres is a likelihood this was planned in hopes of shaving off some unlimited customers who will be so starry-eyed when they get their new phone theyll reluctantly give up unlimited in order to keep their shiny new toy

    • Jeremy Wray

I picked mine up in the store today and all my info still stays unlimited.

      • Josh Speed

I chickened out because once you’re back under contract it makes it easier for them to yank your unlimited…they have reserved the right to make any plan changes they want

        • tabsaz

They can do this anyway though – there’s no guarantee that you can sit on your current plan forever with unlimited. I think everyone’s under the impression that at least some day they’re going to just force everyone off it.

        • Nathaniel_G

You still have 14 days to return the phone and get your plan reverted back. Worst case scenario is that you return the phone and have to pay a $35 restocking fee.

          • Jeff

Used my amex card so the restock fee will be credited if it gets to that point

  • KH

They should honor it. That’s there fault not anyone else’s. This is the same thing as if a store employee tags a product with a lower price than the rest of the merch on the shelf. You are the lucky one who gets to walk out with paying less… and usually the store clerk who mis-priced the item gets left holding the bag (no pun intended). It is not your fault you have a good eye. This falls under the same category of “Buyer Beware,” except I don’t know the Latin for “Businesses double-check your inventory.” If vzw doesn’t honor it, it’s a problem.

  • Ben Baird

Just spoke with customer service, I know everyone’s story varies, but she seemed really confident when my g2 arrives and I activate it I will remain on unlimited.

    • Josh Speed

Definitely don’t bet on it. I canceled my pre-order just now because the rep told me when i go in to activate it the computer system wont even have unlimited as an option

      • Ben Baird

Not betting on it, I figure worst case scenario, use the 14 day grace period and return to where I am now.

        • Josh Speed

You’ve got tougher guts than me man lol

          • Ben Baird

Hopefully it will pay off, the phone is supposed to get here on the 3rd

          • truthful

I ordered mine as well and it still shows being processed…I saved all screen shots

      • Tim242

The plan is tied to your active SIM, not a phone You lost..

        • Josh Speed

Add another line on my account? no

          • Tim242

Add another line? Huh? You don’t add another line. You order the phone, and put your current SIM in it. All done.

  • ARDIE ILARDI

I upgraded a feature phone (no data) on one line to a GS3. I then transferred the GS3 to another line that had a Rezound with Ultd data, and then switched the feature phone back to the original line. I did it all with the help of a friend who worked at a verizon store and it all went off without a hitch.

  • Travis

I pulled the trigger on an iPhone 5S late last night and it worked without a hitch. I got screenshots of every step of my order. I also have an e-mail confirmation that clearly shows unlimited data. Right now, I have an iPhone 5 on my unlimited line, so when I get my new iPhone 5S (not scheduled until end of October), I’m hoping to just swap the sim from the iPhone 5 to the 5S. If it switches me to tiered data when I put in the sim, I will be taking the phone back and reverting my plan.

On the other hand, I’m expecting an official comment on this from Verizon Monday morning. At that time, they may to decide to cancel orders that are in progress or not shipped. In that case, no harm no foul and I’ll just keep what I have.

If Verizon was smart, they’d just let the orders go through and call it a limited promotion. This would give them a stroke of good will and really costs them nothing in the long run. We renew our contracts, and they look like the good guy for a change. On the other hand, if they force people into tiered plans or don’t honor it, then it’ll make them look even more anti-consumer, and could cost them some customers. I don’t see how Verizon gains anything by NOT honoring the deal. Paying the same amount either way, and it’s not like we would be giving up unlimited instead.

  • Hannibal

No more unlimited data plan? Is Verizon fxxxing with my head or are they just making another dumb corporate decisions again? I’ve been trying to get a new phone over a month but Verizon is trying really hard to convince me otherwise… Maybe I should get a new carrier.

  • MatthewSimmons

Only on Verizon are the most loyal customers the most hated.

    • Sporttster

True of Comcast customers as well…..

    • Android Spy 007

Funny a lot of people here complaint about VZW but yet every Q they have more customers than any other carrier. LOL I wonder why Sprint with so many ads about unl data still has not gain more customers than Tmobile? or why is it that between VZW and ATT both have 230 million customers but neither one offers unl data.

      • Quality and speed of service. And availability nationwide. In my area, everyone I know understands Vzw is the only way to go, unless you want super slow buggy service. We’re screwed.

        • LiterofCola

          Exactly

        • Rural resident checking in. VZW is pretty much the only choice here if you always want service and relatively good data speeds.

          • Terry

Same here where I live in a town of 7000 people. 3 bars on one side of town, 4 to 5 bars on the other. (and I’m not talking about places to drink!) AT&T and the others just can’t beat that.

      • MatthewSimmons

I personally don’t switch to Sprint or T-Mobile because the service is terrible around where I live and work. I feel most people on this site with unlimited data are in the same position as me. If T-Mobile’s service was good where I live I would switch in a second. I would love nothing more than to not give Verizon $150 a month.

      • nate

strength and reliability of the VZW network

  • NemaCystX

This is what happens when you publicize a loophole or glitch

    • Tim242

Yeah…how else would anybody be able to use it. Hush.

      • NemaCystX

Well its the same strategy iOS jailbreak hackers use. They don’t release a jailbreak unless the upcoming update still has that same bug because once they publicize the hole or glitch it will be patched, same goes for the android rooting community, rather than posting on a blog, its best put on a members forum or not as popular website, just sayin, i figured this would happen once it was made public for all to see. it sucks yes but its very true and sometimes they hope the public doesn’t know about these things and they let them slip by unscathed but in other situations like this one, they will close the loophole and make profit from it. its the sad world we live in

        • calculatorwatch

Verizon would have noticed it happening anyways and probably would have closed it in a week at most if no one had publicized it. Better to alert everyone and have a flood of people take advantage so at the very least there’s a lot more backlash and logistic problems when they try to take it back.

  • Iyvin Benjamin

I just finished talking to a manager from VZW customer services and he told me that once I receive my Note 3 I should take it to the store along with my receipt and confirmation order that shows I still have the unlimited data plan and they would activate it because it is a legal document.

    • Josh Speed

Its also legal for them to snatch away your unlimited data at any time when you’re under a new 2 year contract. They reserve the right to change anything they want…be careful!

      • JDotAdam

They can change anything already, two-year contract or not.

    • Omar Amer

technically, they only agreed to provide service for two years with the contract. the terms of the service can change whenever verizon feels like it, but they are only required to give you proper notice and time to exit the contract if you do not agree with the new terms.

they are legally allowed to switch you from unlimited to tiered data, as long as they tell you before the change happens and that you are given time to cancel your contract without the ETF.

    • Tim242

You just swap SIM and go. The plan is tied to the SIM

      • Iyvin Benjamin

But my current phone is iPhone 4s, I don’t have a SIM. What should I do? I have a sim card that I used before for my Samsung Galaxy S4 that I don’t use now, would that work?

        • Tim242

In that case, the SIM will be assigned to your account, you will just need to activate it. I believe that can be done online onceyou sign in. It would prompt you if there needs to be a plan change. You could just call and do it over the phone. I think these options need tobe tried first. The store reps may give you an issue. But, you can try it.

          • tabsaz

I’m in the same boat as he is and I’ll play guinea pig and report back on what happens once my Note 3 gets here.

        • CPUJediX

You cannot reactivate a 4G Sim card on Verizon. They keep the card active for ‘Up to 24 hrs’ once it has been removed from the account.

      • YourFriendlyNbrhoodVeRiZoNreP

Go onto your my verizon and do a device only change with the phone(s). you can also do this with amazon. If you buy the phone and do not activate it through amazon’s process and do a device only change you will keep unlimited data.. I know this because I have doe it for a few friends…I work at a Authorized retailer for verizon………………..

    • TylerCameron

Just ask for a SIM card and have them activate the SIM.
It should be no different than if you went in with a Note 3 you paid full price for or whatever. The SIM may be tied to your account, but they doesn’t mean activstingnit can or should change your account.

  • I’d laugh if Verizon decides to force us to tiered data, and instead of them thinking they’re being clever the majority of all those people just up and leave Verizon πŸ˜€

    • Dave M

yep I upgraded this morning w ULD. If Verizon turns around and screws me I’m jumping ship when Nexus 5 comes out and getting unlocked SIM care and going to Straight Talk.

    • Phillies3429

We would for sure leave if they didn’t at least put us back on the original plan.

    • Doan

A minority was aware of the issue, and only a portion of that minority took advantage. If every person who renewed their unlimited data left Verizon, it wouldn’t be noticeable.

      • LaughableAtBest

People on these blogs think if the .0001% that they are do something it will make a big impact and force a multi billion dollar company to bend to their will.

  • chippah

Glad i didn’t cancel my note 3 preorder.

I originally ordered it on my current mtm dumb phone line and will activate on my current gnex line, I’ll then tVerizon, current gnex upgrade move it back to the dumb phone line I. Order to get the old lady her note 3 and both keep unlimited,

This nets me 2 note 3s on unlimited for 1 launch day gnex and another we got for the wife 1 month later that Verizon took on the new ne2 pull scandal, (my wifes feb 2011 gnex was due to upgrade in febuary 2014 ffs!) fu verizon!

  • I can still do it

  • Dustin Casper

I’m so glad that I jumped in. That is all.

  • Phillies3429

When we were talking to the rep online she assured us that we wouldn’t lose anything on our current plan and that we could upgrade. I see that reps have said so many different things today. Hopefully Verizon will come out tomorrow with an official statement saying what they are doing. All hell will break loose if we lose our Unlimited Data.

  • yummy

    Oh. Heehee. So sorry. Just
a tenny mistake. No hard feelings?

  • Big Daddy

I’m glad that i have at&t and still able to upgrade my phone lines and keep my unlimited data plans.

    • Chris Hannan

I’m glad I’m on Verizon and don’t get throttled after 5GB of data.

    • Tim242

      Throttling after 3GB must suck…

  • bbrutcher

thank you droid life!! got my husband his G2 and my son his Commando 4G and kept our unlimited data!! ordered them online last night and picked up in the store today. Rep didn’t even blink an eye at the unlimited data!!

  • Anthony Bottari

Ok I may have missed it but does this apply to anyone that buys a phone outright too?

    • JDotAdam

No. That’s not considered an upgrade.

      • Anthony Bottari

ah right right..I was gonna say ..good bye VZW..hello anywhere I can get a Nexus 5!

  • JDotAdam

I’ve got my fingers crossed for everyone – especially me! I just sold my primary Moto X in hopes of keeping the one I bought today with my upgrade. Big thanks to Kellex and Droid-Life (and those behind the scenes) for breaking this news! It’s been a fun day. Tim242, until next time… πŸ™‚

  • ElecEngineer

I placed an order for an LG G2. Though I am not brave enough to activate first. I have a baby on the way and will need unlimited data for Netflix while on road trips.

    • SetNick

As a father if two under the age of 4…unlimited data and the ability to stream whatever has helped keep cat rides silent. Well I have to credit XDA for all the wonderful root methods too.

    • Tim242

Insert your current active SIM, done .

  • dude

I just tried to upgrade through best buy.com to a lg g2 and it didn’t say anything about changing my data plan and let me keep my existing plan with no changes. I went all the way to where I put in my credit card info before I stopped… still unsure about this. Anyone have any input?

  • Scott

I got in on it, but still waiting on the phone to arrive. I’ve been kicking around T-Mobile, but scared it won’t cover me as I travel back and forth across the country. If Verizon screws me on this, I guess I’ll risk it.

  • spin

I may be SOL. i upgraded to an iPhone 5S, and it wont ship until the 14th of october, plenty of time for them to screw me.

  • chris125

I wonder what they are going to do for those who picked up in store and have the phone? I could see them flagging the ones being shipped but the ones already activated seems like if they wait and do it it would kind of be super shady to do it a week or even longer after someone already activated the phone.

  • Henry_angel

    hi all

  • keith begeman

is there anyway to pull up your receipt to make sure you retained unlimited data?

    • Mike

they were shady and didn’t give me a receipt. Claimed they emailed it to me and it never showed up

      • Tim242

Log into your account, go to account documents .

    • Jeremy Wray

just log into your account on the website, and your data bar will say “xxxx of unlimited”

  • Marsg

I dint upgrade, I don’t trust Verizon and thought it was a trap to take away my unlimited.

    • BaconEater
      • Marsg

lol its a win win situation, if they do honor the upgrades then i can complain about it not being fair until they offer me the upgrade, if they don’t i dint lose anything.

        • Omar Amer

cant complain, waived all rights to complain when you signed your contract.

          • Marsg

i know but still worth a try, like i said nothing to lose. It all depends on the person you’re talking to, they can either be bitchy or extremely helpful. there’s plenty of people who have been upgraded through another line preferably a dumb phone than canceled the data and switched the new smartphone to theirs, some Verizon employees have even helped with the process.

          • Android Spy 007

Most of them are under a very stressful situation with their jobs. They have to make YOU end the call happy because if YOU happen to take a survey and rank them below #7 then they will go under a verbal for not doing their job right. Second they have to make sure the calls does not go over 10 minutes. Third, they have to offer you an accessory and ask you how is your service with them? I am sure about you but some IDIOTS just because they don’t get what they want they will go off on CS reps. Let me give you a tip. ASK FOR A SUPERVISOR. Those CS reps don’t make the rules. They don’t come as say let’s charge $30 fee. Trust me most of them hate that because only makes their job harder. You think they love to speak with idiots asking for credits just because they feel loyal to the company when in reality you have several of options but YOU decided to spay with Verizon.

            PS
Ask for a real sup. VZ has some reps as Customer Relations, they are just reps not making any extra money handling their escalations. If you get one of them be nice to them and ask for a Real Supervisor so them they can hear your comments. Maybe soon VZW vip’s will understand their customers.

          • michael arazan

The exec’s are too busy counting all the money to care

    • Ludwig Leota

I somewhat agree with you. I don’t trust any of them. Why would any of the reps want to help us when their bottom line is the making that money?

      • Marsg

they get paid commission on device sales/upgrades not your month to month bill. Going from unlimited to a tiered data plan costs nothing upfront. so their main objective is to sell you a device.

        • Omar Amer

they get dont any commision on new lines or upgrades, they get their commision from selling accessories. cases, screen protectors, bluetooth anything, car chargers, docks, batteries. anything you buy when you buy your phone they get some money. the more often they convince that the case is worth it, the more money they make. any money from phones and plans goes to verizon and not the rep/store.

          • Android Spy 007

@omaramer:disqus you are right and now VZW is changing the game. It’s does not matter how many cases they sell. Now they have to sell a certain amount of each of the accessories in order for them to keep their jobs. Does not matter if you sold 10K cases you also need to sell car charges, screen protectors and extra battery charge. And let’s not forget now, some stores are selling cable companies products like Comcast, TimeWarner or Cox.

          • michael arazan

            That is crazy.

          • Android Spy 007

you should see how many are leaving so don’t be surprise if you end up with some one new all the time

      • Marsg

they also get commission on signing you up for a new plan if you are a new customer or renewing your 2 year. Either way they make absolutely no money from taking away your unlimited.

        • Android Spy 007

Sorry @theking169:disqus but you have this one wrong. Employees DO NOT make any commission for you switching on a new plan or when getting you off the unl data plan. The only commission they get is IF you buy an accessory. They MUST get an amount of upgrades a month in order for them to keep their jobs. Those guys don’t have it easy so please don’t spread the bad rumors.

          • Can’t Wait to Drop VZW

@androidspy007:disqus :False. source: my buddy just made manager at a vzw store near me

          • Spider210

Android spy is correct. You sir are wrong

          • Android Spy 007

πŸ™‚ I am here to inform not to debate.. but if he wants to believe his manager friend I am ok.. I believe in unicorns lol

    • Android Spy 007

They have 14 WFG. If you have unlimited data and you switch to a share everything and you don’t like it but you wanted the phone as long as you bring back that beautiful phone back within the 14 days you can go back to your old phone and they will give you back your unlimited data.

But, you need to do it within 14 days after that sorry say good bye to your unl data.

    • CalAlum

I’m pretty sure it was just a move to bump Q3 earnings before the quarter closes.

    • C-Law

I didn’t either. I wanted to and almost clicked Submit on the checkout twice but was too worried about them somehow screwing me over. Now I’m left wondering if when they fixed this, they fixed the alternate upgrade loophole too

  • cg

I saw this coming and was too afraid to pull the trigger. I saw my own mock order, but I wasn’t going to fall for it and lose my unlimited. I’m just going to do the alternate upgrade and call it a day. I want to see if Verizon will honor those new orders….

    • SleepySensei

The impression I get is that this simply doesn’t work.

  • Michael Tate

HELLZ YEAH!! Picked up 2 new Motorola Maxxs for the wife and myself! Kept our unlimited plan too! Woo Hoo!!

  • DS

I might be one of the first guinea pigs. My phone should be coming by FedEx tomorrow. I was able to upgrade this way late last week. Fingers crossed!

    • moelsen8

Be sure to report. I won’t even be opening the box until we get a good sampling.

    • Jeremy Wray

Picked mine up today, everything shows unlimited data

  • Suralin

I bought a sim card cutter just in case the activation fails on my Moto-X. Fingers crossed everyone!

  • C-Law

Ahh! I went through checkout twice and just never hit submit bc I was worried it wouldn’t work. Now I’m all pissed off for not trying anyway!

  • jefbystereo

My wife did, but I’m still in contract on my gnex. I didn’t think of in store pickup, she got an iphone and it isn’t shipping till November…..that’s plenty of time for Verizon to try to back out

  • JoeTi

Upgraded to the Droid Maxx this morning. Do the right thing VZW and leave my unlim data ALONE!

  • fritzo

so what should us “shipped phone” customers do now? im getting my moto x on thursday i think. should i get a new sim and activate? use my old sim card (cutting it down), or what?

    • kevinh52

I think cutting it down will be the best plan…Others can chime in to make sure.

    • chris125

i think technically you would still have to activate it which is where they would get you. Will be interesting to see what they do though. id go into a store and have them walk you through it see if it keeps unlimited

  • DroidzFX

The dance with the devil continues.

  • cheese

is there any way to take advantage of this still?

  • David Caccavo

Going to be pretty upset. Especially since they expect us to honor our commitments. For once Verizon does the right thing? Then who knows, maybe they’ll even get the next nexus.

  • Ben Ninety-four Nunez

Okay…i have one question…With all this talk abut the new phones losing the unlimited when activated, when on tries it…how does it work then when one buys it at full retail then…doesn’t that phone to be activated also?..wouldnt that phone lose the unlimited…

    • P

There’s no activation you just switch the sim of the old phone into the new one

      • Ben Ninety-four Nunez

well is it the same?…i jumped on the bandwagon and preorder the Note 3…I have a Gnex, so just swapping the sim will do it?

        • P

Yea as long as it’s a 4g sim you’re good

    • chris125

full price doesnt trigger the upgrade/change of plan. Changing the plan is what loses unlimited not changing the phone.

      • Tim242

Exactly. So, an already active SIM is just put into the upgraded phone…done.

        • so if a phone is stolen and someone got an insurance replacement with a new sim would they be effed?

          • Tim242

Phones that use SIM cards have traditionally been very easy to swap between. The carriers are supposed to be implementing an IMEI block list, similar to the CDMA ESN block. But as of now, the person that steals it just has to put a new SIM in and go. It would not affect you when you get the replacement.

  • Michael Bean

So, I just talked to someone high up and here is what they say. The
revenue department will be flagging all the accounts and anyone who
activates it will be placed on to the tiered plan. You can return it and
go back on your unlimited data plan however within the 14 days.

    Also,
the courts have ruled that honest glitches and errors are not enforced
by the “Bait and Switch” laws. They will have to provide you with a
refund or allow you to terminate your contract. Remember people, the ToS
says they can change your contract anytime they want, but they have to
    offer you a way out.
My advice, cancel the orders and save the headache.

    • DailyPlunge

Do they really want to deal with all the returns and bad PR they’ll have to deal with? That would be a bad business decision.

      • Michael Bean

Well the internal memo going around is they are going to remove the unlimited data. Now that could be a knee jerk reaction and once they think about it change it. This is Verizon, I really don’t think they care.

        • chris125

Verizon has gotten too large for their own good. They no longer care about the customer and to many people are clueless to it and continue signing up

      • chris125

This is verizon we are talking about, the same ones who are in court arguing about net neutrality and how they can do what they want whenever they want

      • acras

Haha bad PR? They don’t care at all about the tiny amount of backlash they MIGHT get over this if they do switch those accounts/devices to tiered. The vast majority of customers either don’t pay attention , didn’t buy a device this weekend , or are stuck with Verizon being the only viable option for them.

    • DJ SPY

Good thing I got proof of a Verizon rep confirming that it was a current promotion.

      • Todd Brown

And what exactly are you going to do with that? Take them to court? They are going to say “Sorry, our Verizon rep made a mistake.” End of story.

    • D Nice

Right before I left Verizon (back in July) I took my iphone off my mainline at the time to sell it. The rep told me VZW changed the policy that stated that I had 24 hours to put a smartphone on the line with unlimited data or I would lose it. Where it use to be you had 14 days to do so. She said the same applied if you took your smartphone off the line with the unlimited and put a simple feature phone on the account. I dunno as you know sometime the right doesn’t know what the left is doing within big companies such as this. It is worth double checking to say the least.

    • Tim242

      No.

  • Andy Stetson

Did anyone have any luck moving from a tiered plan back to unlimited? If so, i’m super bummed that I got my G2 on release day!

  • Alex S
    • That person is seeing that info on his screen because the unlimited data upgrades are on longer open.

      • Alex S

        Oh hai Kellex!

He apparently spoke with a representative via chat as well? Everyone (as you know) seems to be getting mixed messages; some saying the representative they chatted with said they could keep unlimited data -and they got screenshots- others saying the same but vice versa.

It’s like you said, we’ll just have to see what happens right?

Btw any openings for a guest writer? πŸ˜€

  • Jeff

If VZW is smart they would follow suite with United Airlines. United gave away free airline tickets from their glitch.

  • Marc

Went to Best Buy this afternoon and they couldn’t pull up unlimited on their systems. They did however get me on the max 6gb plan for 29 bucks without having to do that stupid edge plan.

    • So you went from unlimited data to 6GB for the same price. Here’s a gold star! πŸ˜›

      • NemaCystX

        cheaper than AT&T, they want $50 for 5gb, here’s a PLATINUM star!!

    • Rob

How did you pull off getting the 6GB?

      • Marc

I made a stink about the unlimited thing on verizon’s website and went in with a printout of the screen showing the option to keep the unlimited data. They dug through the computer and found a way to get me on the 6gb plan. The funny thing is when they did the upgrade my line went to 6gb and my wife’s stayed unlimited. Thinking about trying to buy her number from her.

  • Chris Hannan

Just hoping my 5S gets here. Still haven’t decided which phone I want to buy with the profit after selling it. Hope I’ll still have that decision in a few weeks!

    • Captain Spaulding[1900+ posts]

      Nexus 5

      • Chris Hannan

Sticking with Verizon but I wish.

  • Joe

I wonder if this could happen again. Maybe this is a kind of tactic within Verizon to try and get unlimited users to upgrade while they have a chance. If they did something like this again (assuming it was on purpose), I’ll bet a lot of unlimited users who were on the fence this time around would upgrade.

  • Frank Malloy

Come come now, you didn’t think Big Red wasn’t going to plug that hole, did you?

A US wireless provider will never, ever make any change – or maintain an existing policy – that actually benefits their customer without directly also benefiting their bottom line. It’s like United Airlines ripping out rows from their airplanes to give everyone more legroom. ‘Aint gonna happen.

Wireless providers are in the bottom of the bottom feeders of business. They’re all in collusion with each other, price fixing plans and policies. Want to switch to AT&T? More of the same.

This practice is going to continue unless the US government steps in and starts regulating this highway robbery, which they of course will not, as our esteemed politicians are neatly in the wireless industry’s pocket.

    • jjl207

And our government is so benevolent and always does what’s in our interests…

  • David Tyler

I picked up my htc one from BestBuy this morning. I still have my unlimited data.

    • Andrew Davis

How did you know it’s still intact? Did you activate in store? Or own your own at home? What did it (the recording, i guess) say?

      • David Tyler

Best Buy activated it for me. I recieved a print out of my receipt that my plan was still intact. I then check edonline and saw I still had my unlimited data.

        • Andrew Davis

Hmm… you’re lucky. Signed up for in store pick up at a verizon. They said I’d lose unlimited. So I didn’t pick it up. Wish I had it shipped…dont think I can change it to have it shipped either.

          • Jeremy Wray

They lied. I picked mine up without an issue. The rep gave a puzzled look for a second but my receipt and account both say unlimited data

  • James Hill

I was going to do this, but I have the alternate live thing going for me, so I chose to wait it out till the black Friday sales. I may keep my DNA a while longer.

  • Andrew Davis

I might be screwed. Ordered a Moto X online last night and went to pick it up in store today. When I did, the lady said that when she scanned the phone, the only option she had to complete the order was the tiered plan. And if I tried to activate it on my own, it’ll kick me out of unlimited. I decided not to pick it up.

So, is there anyway I can change my in store pick up to having it shipped? Or should I just pick it up, activate it myself, and hope unlimited is still available?

    • Christopher A Ryan

just redo your order online and have it shipped
      you better hurry though

      • Andrew Davis

Tried at 7pm eastern time. Keeping unlimited is gone now. (I wonder if I call with my order number, they’ll ship it.) Anyway, there’s a warning that says, “You currently have an Unlimited Data package on one or more lines on your account. The Unlimited Data package is no longer available. To continue, please select a new Data Option for all of the lines on your plan. You will not be able to go back to your current Unlimited Data package.”

  • Patrick Bateman

no thanks… getting rid of unlimited for a nexus 5 on t mo….

    • Chris Hannan

You’d be wise to sell your plan on eBay when you leave. One plan right now is going for just over $300 with a little over 2 hours left.

      • Patrick Bateman

I would love too but need to keep my phone number due to work reasons…

        • Radgatt

Whoever you sell it to can get their own number and that frees up your number for you to port to t-mobile.

        • Or do the Google Voice port if it works in your area.

          • Droidzilla

Make sure your number is free before you port, though. Otherwise Verizon will hit you with the ETF.

    • Dean Milord

I will be doing the same and the will prob grab some Nexus 4s or GS4s from Swappa. Most likely Nexus 4s. AND OFF TO T-MOBILE I GO. THEY OFFERED TO PAY MY ETFs for me when I’m ready to leave. Dueces to you VZW, it wasn’t fun while it lasted.

    • NIGHTSCOUT

You’ll be hating yourself afterwards. I would say don’t drop your VzW account yet. Get T-Mobile, and try it. If you dislike their service, at least you can fall back onto your VzW account. Otherwise you’re dead in the water.

    • We left big red 6 months ago for T-MO, and we couldn’t be happier.

Half the price, great customer service, no nonsense in the billing, and best of all, no tracking data!

  • Christopher A Ryan

I’m on a alltel smartchoice plan with 4 lines and They are still letting me go through with the upgrades and keelping my smartchoice plan.

    • Christopher A Ryan

look at my time in the corner

  • LoweDown

I keep trying to do the pre-order for the Note 3, but I do not see anywhere through the ordering process where you can inoput the “Verizon30” code and get the 30% off. Am I missing something or have threy removed this now?

    • Tim242

      Not available on preorders.

    • TruEastSydeBoi

Read some of the near 1200 comments of the earlier post pertaining to this… You cannot use the coupon towards pre-orders.

    • rdcamero

Could not use coupon code or bill to account on preorder.I have been wanting to try the X, but I also thought about using it as a place holder for the Note 3.Once they are in stock you should be able to use the code.

    • chris125

you cant do it on preorders

  • Rick Comer

Purchased a G2 this morning online, used the 30% off coupon and chose in store pickup. I was there when they opened at 11am and made sure my Unlimited was still intact on my contract and then completed the purchase.

    • slainte

Did the same for my wife, got her the G2…that is a sweet phone for sure.

      • 1bad69z28

I agree the Lg G2 really surprised me. i was palying around with the demo at my my local Verizon store. the back buttons didn’t reeally bother me and I actually thought it was a little refreshing.

not a fano of the skin (Nothing a litlle root action can take care of πŸ™‚ ) But, the device itself felt nice. And, the performance was like “WOW” No lag as I compared it to the S3, Note 2 and HTC One. The HTC flet tinny to me for what that’s worth.

If the LG G2 is any sign of the Necus 5, I am in “BIG TIME” for the Nexus 5

        • EnX$$

HTC one is better you drank

          • 1bad69z28

Obviously your lack of knowledge is pretty impressive. πŸ™‚

      • TylerCameron

What’s with all the people on here buying G2’s?
The G2 is LG, so it sucks as bad as Samsung.
Wouldn’t be so bad if they actually updated their phones.
Even better, if they knew how to do on-screen buttons CORRECTLY

Because it’s a great phone? And d00d, ROMz ftw

        • 1bad69z28

LG has done a pretty good job with the G2. I do agree the skin is pretty bad and needs much polishing. But the performance on the G2 is really nice.

Sure the HTC One is better, but the G2 will give it a run for its money. As for LG sucking I am sure the Nexus 5 will be a beast.

    • Smeckle

Sorry, slightly off-topic, but are you able to access Google Now on yours? I just got mine a few hours ago and that is one thing that I cannot figure out. I just get errors when I try to go to it by swiping up.

      • Mine works fine

        • Smeckle

Okay. I’m assuming you didn’t have to tweak any settings or anything. Would rather not factory reset but now would be the time to do it i guess while it’s only a few hours old.

          • Nope, just slide up on the home button, released on Google Now, and off I was!

          • Smeckle

Alright, thanks. Mine just gives me a network error with a button to “get Google Now.” Nothing happens when i press it. Hopefully a reset will do it…

          • ranlil

Had the problem on my Moto X as well as the 50 Gig activation on Drive. Moto told me to reboot the phone and after I did, all was good.

          • Smeckle

LOL wtf I was just about to factory reset and decided to try one last time. This time it gave me the Google Now intro and now it works fine. I tried over and over before and got nothing! Funny…

    • roberthenderson

WTH! WHAT 30% PERCENT OFF COUPON!?!?

    • Jason Downing

      I did the same

    • Mike

Did the same today and the unlimited was intact. The rep there was a real jerk about it too. I called later to confirm again, but the rep said they quality assurance would be going through and revoking their mistake. Whoever did the cost analysis on this one has to be questioned. If they revoke mine, I’m going to another carrier. Making a mistake and honoring it is the cost of doing business. Seems stupid to revoke all of this when they have only a small percentage of people who took advantage and are locked in for 2 year contracts.

  • xrzx

I upgraded to an iPhone 5S. As I was doing it, I talked with a VZW rep via the chat system and she confirmed that I would be able to keep my unlimited plan. Took screen shots, etc. If they’re going to screw us all over for this, I think it would be a big mistake for them — but whatever. If worse comes to worse, I’m back where I started with my unlimited data plan and my old phone.

    • Michael Bean

Keep those, since she told you you would be able to, that is totally different than just doing it and taking advantage of a glitch. Since she said you could keep it, then she formed a sort of an agreement as a Verizon representative. Good luck.

      • chris125

eh they will say the rep had no authority and made an error, this type of thing happened before and they just said the rep was wrong it was a mistake sorry

  • rdcamero

Ordered the Moto x with Verizon30 coupon.Could not use coupon on Note 3 preorder.Once the Note 3 is available to purchase online i may try to swap the X for it and pay the difference.Should be able to use the coupon code then.

  • moelsen8

Wifey got a moto x! Wish I was smart enough to do in store pickup. Hopefully these ship!

  • ToddAwesome

    IBTL!

  • n900mixalot

Whoah what’s going on with the comment system?

  • I noticed quarter three ends tomorrow. This, with the quarter closing will be a great sales boost. I don’t expect them to take hundreds of thousands of dollars (maybe even million(s)) they just made and apologize and close orders. Not only that, you are giving them business for another two years and in return, let you keep something you love.

    • Agree, they would be foolish to not allow this all to happen. People just signed 2-year contracts like crazy. This news went all over the internet, with tons and tons of people taking advantage.

      • Exactly – customer is happy, and so is VZW’s pockets. If only the customer could be happy more often then just Verizon πŸ™‚

      • Jesse Blacklock

my dad just did an order with confirmation for upgrade with unlimited

      • Tim242

Over 1100 comments, and you had the original. You were a star today.

        • My favorite part about it all, has been the people on Twitter saying “It’s only closed now because of all you blogs writing about it!” Of course, these same ass clowns wouldn’t even know about it if it wasn’t for us.

          πŸ™‚

          • JoeTi

Dude. Thank you. Without that I would never have pulled the trigger and might have moved to T-mo or att. Well see when it arrives!

          • skylog

my (next) favorite part will be keeping that unlimited data on a new phone. thanks man! my next next favorite part will be the next droid life show hearing you all talk about this…

          • α•™(⇀‸↼•)α•—

I found it funny how Android Central always ran the unltd. data story right after Droid Life did. They did it right after you first broke the news and they did it again today after you ran this story. On both occasions they never cited you guys as a source.

          • Sporttster

With it being the weekend, and DL not usually this active on a weekend, don’t be surprised if tomorrow there’s a load of ‘what? I didn’t know a thing about this!!’ posts. I am SO glad I came when I did and checked it out. Saved me around $350 from having to buy outright!! Very grateful! Thank you!!!

          • Android Spy 007

I am sure some said I ready on Droid Life about keeping my unl data. is that true? LOL things my friends tell me about their job.

          • Android Spy 007
          • sc4fpse

            *sad face*

            Ahahahahahahaha!

          • Android Spy 007

lol I was not the one asking but like I said in a previous comment. i was sure that at least 1 was going to contact verizon about this issues. I there I was right. Some don’t get it? if you see something here don’t go and ask VZ just freaking upgrade and wait.

          • Michael Tate

I was able to upgrade yesterday and keep my unlimited data. Here’s a snapshot of my new contract showing I still have unlimited data! πŸ˜‰

      • bos

Hope you post a follow up in a couple of days after it becomes clear how this is going to shake out. If Verizon decides to take the low road and not honor these sales, it should be publicized.

        • Todd Brown

“If Verizon decides to take the low road”…. Look, the entitlement of you people is an absolute joke. Verizon never changed its policy, and anyone who used the system glitch knew good and darn well that. This thing happens quite often with online shopping. Amazon will accidentally have a computer listed for $10 for example… People jump all over it, knowing its a mistake, and Amazon cancels all the orders. They have that right. Stop acting like the world owes you something.

          • Joe

This is the cost of doing business pal, so quit your bitching. We can complain if they cancel us and personally, I’ll move to another carrier.

      • Ferny

Like someone posted before. You should make a poll to see how many people took advantage of this offer. Maybe verizon would notice just how many people would keep them for their unlimited.

        • Todd Brown

Lol.. all those same people haven’t left Verizon already, so what’s your point? They aren’t going anywhere regardless.

          • Joe

If they don’t honor this, I’m leaving, so count me as one.

      • Michael Tate

I took FULL advantage yesterday! My wife and I both got the new Motorola Maxx. Too bad the 30% coupon didn’t work on it, but I still paid half of what I would have if I was to buy them at full retail cost to keep our Unlimited plans.

I even made sure to screen shot the transaction online as well as have the VZW rep in the store give us copies of the new contracts showing we still have Unlimited data before leaving the store. No way is VZW coming back to the customers that jumped on this deal to ask for their devices back or loose their Unlimited data. It’s a done deal

Those of you that stalled on this INCREDIBLE event in history are going to be sorry you did.

Now I just need to get our old Razr Maxxs on eBay … looks like I should be able to nearly cover the cost of our new Maxxs for what I can get for our old Razr Maxxs. Wooo Hooo!!

Thanks again Kellen for posting this GEM!! I’m a very happy camper today!!

        • BlackFreefall

A couple of my friends upgraded their phone back in May when Verizon released the SIV. They were willing to give up their unlimited, but to their delight, Verizon did not remove unlimited data on their renewed contract.

The moment I saw this post on droid-life, I jumped on it. After all, there isn’t anything to lose.

    • Jeremy Gross

they should just give back unlimited data and than BAM everyone loves Verizon again

  • Luke Murray

Should they attempt to force customers who went through this process into a tiered data plan, this would qualify as 2 things: 1: Breech of contract, and 2: False Advertisement.

That can lead to a HEFTY lawsuit w/ the number of customers who have done this.

    • Tim242

Consumers can’t sue carriers. You sign an arbitration agreement. However, the FCC would probably get them.

      • Jason Bittner

Most clauses like that in a contract are not actually binding, they serve more as a deterrent.

    • xrzx

As a Verizon customer, you can NOT sue Verizon or start a lawsuit against them for ANY reason. In your contract that you signed, there is something called mandatory arbitration, meaning by signing that contract, you give up all your rights to take Verizon to civil court for ANYTHING.

If there is a breach of contract and you want to fight it, you have to go to mandatory arbitration — the arbitration is done in a secret court that is not a part of the federal or state government, and Verizon chooses the arbitrators. Everything is done in secret, and they pay the arbitrators, and you can’t talk about what happens there publically. If you think I’m BSing you, look into it.

      • Caleb Boerner

With the number of people who were able to upgrade, if Verizon were to not honor them it would likely be able to be advanced through a class action suit, which I don’t believe is subject to mandatory arbitration.

        • xrzx

You are correct; that’s one of the few instances where you can get around arbitration. The problem with a class action suit though is that it would take a hell of a long time to actually get any results, they would not be on an individual level / case, and there would have to be a firm willing to take up the cause.

      • JoeTi

No sense in researching that. I will simply return it and see what we do when the contract ends. πŸ™‚

        • chris125

I am doing the same thing. Will just return it and go nexus when my contract ends in a few weeks.

    • Spoken Wordβ„’

1st and foremost there is no breach of contract because you didn’t enter into a contract with Verizon for unlimited data. You entered into a contract to extend your service for 2 years and it is Verizon policy that you will be moved onto a tiered plan if you accept the discount price. 2nd there’s no false advertising as Verizon never advertised that you could keep your unlimited with a subsidized phone. The bottom line is that Verizon’s customer agreement will relieve them all culpability in this matter as it covers mistakes of this nature. More to the point, the law is on their side in this matter. There was an error in their system and once they discovered it they shut it down. They are under no legal obligation to let customers keep the unlimited data due to the error.

      • Alex S

It’s true unfortunately. You can still make an argument that they have to let you BACK to unlimited data, since you were signing up for a service that didn’t really exist.

        • xrzx

Absolutely. Worse case scenario: you are back to your original unlimited data plan with your old device. They can NOT take that away from you.

          • NemaCystX

Once your off it, i’m pretty sure they will force you to stay off it. because “that plan is no longer available” is what their speil will be… o_0

  • n900mixalot

How did all of these folks suddenly have upgrades?! πŸ™

I feel like I haven’t been eligible forever! Dang!

    • synplex

      Galaxy Nexus owners!

    • Chris Hannan

I’ve been eligible since March. Haven’t upgraded because of unlimited…until today.

    • i’ve had 2 upgrades for over a year. bought that note 2 at full retail.almost wish i had the balls to pull the triggger on this while it lasted, but i swear its trap.

  • And so it ends… lol

  • chris125

Not surprising especially with everyone and their mother contacting verizon about it. This is one thing you probably dont want to go run and contact verizon about next time. Just take advantage of it and let verizon be clueless for a little bit longer

    • Tim242

Yeah, they went rep shopping like they were really going to get real info.

  • Tim242

I got two preorders in for Note 3’s. The system did not include my line 2 address field in the shipping address, so my apt. # got left off. I hope they can fix it tomorrow without ccanceling the order

    • n900mixalot

      Two?!! Did you add lines?

      • Tim242

No. I have three lines, two of them out of contract. I don’t use them all haha

    • rwp5028

I imagine you could talk to the local ups store or apartment building manager, has to happen for other stuff all the time.

    • Coleworld22

@tim242:disqus I had the same problem ha-ha, If you paid for the pre-order they couldn’t update the address they had to cancel the pre-order and re-do it. Fortunately for me it worked redoing the pre-order and I got to keep my unlimited data!! Good luck..Worst option sales rep told me was that fed-ex would hold the package for pickup if it couldn’t be delivered.

      • Tim242

If they cancel the preorder, I’m sure it would mess up the data since they have fixed the issue. I hope FedEx will hold it.

    • That’s rough… I hope you can fix it without changing the order. What about calling FedEx to have them hold it at local facility for pickup? I do that all the time.

    • acras

Even if you can’t change it , it will go to the fed ex dist. center close to you and they will call you to tell you they can’t deliver. Then you have to call Verizon to have them update fed ex with the right address. Thats what they did when Verizon screwed up my address when I ordered the S3 way back , they input my address as “Apt. 1 ,Apt. 1” , with my city state and zip

  • rthvk

    NOO VERIZON!

WHYY? For one day I was living in a magical world where unlimited and Verizon would jive, but my hopes and dreams have been crushed… Again.

  • Jesse Blacklock

oh man i am glad i got my note 3 preorder in

    • Haroon Dar

      me too

    • Same here. If Verizon decides to f*** everyone over and make them go to tiered data or return the phones, at least our orders won’t be shipped until 10/10 so we can easily cancel the order without dealing with returns.

      • rumors are the vzw Note3 may ship today 9/29 Sunday from FedEx… XDA thread reliable source.

  • ßen Murphy

    I almost bit on the Note 3,but couldn’t justify a $300 hit.

  • Radgatt

I took advantage of the bonanza.

  • Pierito

    Party’s over….everyone go home!

  • Joe Lemaire

You know we did! So many did. Personally, I’m not worried. Worse case I return to what I have now (GNex with unlimited). Or call up and complain. Either way, I’m no worse off.

    • chaoslimits

From one GNexer to another, good luck.
Looking to sell my GNex to subsidize my Moto X DE.

  • Booyabobby

    womp womp

Good luck to those that remain! Godspeed!
