Almost a Month Late, the 4G LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 on Verizon Can Finally be Pre-ordered

The 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that’s headed to Verizon in “4-6 weeks” was originally supposed to be available for pre-order back on June 8, but for whatever reason couldn’t quite make it.  Big Red decided that this month long delay wasn’t worth a mention (we did) and has now made the device available starting at the announced prices of $529 for the 16GB and $629 for the 32GB models on 2-year contract.  Yep, it’s more expensive at 32GB than the Motorola XOOM – it will ship with 4G though!

I will say though, that this could be my favorite tablet when it comes to size and weight.  The device is extremely light, thin, and also comes packed with one heck of a screen.  With it’s dual-core processor (Tegra 2), 1GB of RAM, and dual cameras (although the rear one is garbage), it matches up spec-wise to everyone, but again, the weight and thickness make it easily the top dog right now.  You can check our our hands-on with the I/O version here.

Pre-order.

Cheers Gustafson!

I just want to know from the Xoom buyers, if hey’re feeling cheated from Moto.  It looks like Samsung can just jump into the fray of tablets/devices and start making hits!!!

Moto has been horrible with all of there issues and software problems trying to get a single device out with all of their problems. .

A hit? We’ll see. It is true that Samsung did well with the Galaxy S like by shoving it at every carrier that would take it, and they are garnering some good wil with the hardcore crowd by giving a couple of phones to XDA… but, the Galaxy Tab ( original) didn’t light the world on fire, and don’t forgot to remember the Moment, Behold and Behold II were decidedly junk, and neither the Charge nor the Infuse seem to be lighting the world on fire. Yes, Samsung certain has a bit of a darling status right now in the Android community, but other than the Galaxy S line, it doesn’t necessarily translate into sales “hits” for Samsung, since once y the products actually hit the market, that cheap plastic feel (and poor update history) turn people off.

        Jaymonster,

I agree that Samsung has a cheap feel and is the darling of the Android
Community right know because they gave XDA a couple of thier devices to
tinker with. All I am saying is that if Samsung can come out with have way
decent devices and play to the Android community, then why not Moto???

They only device that Moto did right is the OGDroid!!!! Moto needs to come
out with a hit and the Bionic neds to wow us My question is wha has Moto
        done lately???

        • Anonymous

In 2009 you had the OG Droid. In 2010, despite the later whining, the Droid X was a winner and sold quite well. We still have to wait to see if the Bionic is “all that” but if it is… that is 3 hits in 3 years. That is not bad at all.

Thank you so much for giving everyone a very pleasant opportunity to read in detail from this website. It’s always very brilliant plus full of fun for me personally and my office mates to search your blog minimum 3 times per week to read through the new stuff you have got. And lastly, I am certainly satisfied with the impressive things served by you. Certain 2 tips in this posting are rather the most efficient I have ever had.

I needed to write you that little observation to be able to give thanks yet again over the splendid guidelines you’ve provided in this article. It was so wonderfully generous with people like you to make unhampered all that a lot of folks could possibly have distributed for an e book to get some money for themselves, mostly considering that you might well have done it in the event you wanted. Those basics also served to provide a great way to be aware that other people online have similar dreams like my own to know the truth more and more regarding this issue. I’m sure there are some more enjoyable situations ahead for individuals who check out your blog post.

I played with one of these, as well as a Xoom. They’re nice, don’t get me wrong, but too big for my tastes. I don’t want to hold something the size of a magazine plus have to type on it. Call me cheap, but I just bought a “certified pre-owned” (read: refurb) Tab through verizon for $150. For what’s going to amount as a toy or secondary device, i certainly didn’t want to pay 500 or 600 for one. Already have a Droid X, but I want something with a bigger screen. Got the 1GB data plan, i’m gonna wind up using it mostly on wifi anyway!

Locked in to a tablet for two years that will be replaced by another (twice as fast) in just a few short months? Nah.

(yeah yeah…I know this happens with everything. But I think the tablet space is going to be moving a slight bit quicker than phones as the carriers cant “control” it as much)

  • Me

No thanks. Just got an iPad2, love it!

      Cool story

  • Jeres88

This tablet is great if you want to pay more for less features… no sd card, only a single proprietary plug, I’ll pass. There are more important features than thickness and weight.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Agree with what you say I like having a lil weight to my xoom feels sturdy

  • Stelv81

So they can put dual core and 4g lte into a tablet but not a phone?

    • Anonymous

Could have a lot to do with the fact that you can shove a much bigger battery into a tablet to get decent life without having to be tethered to the wall like Thunderbolt users ( who don’t even have the benefit of a dual core)

Not sure how you decided it was a month late since at the presser they said the Wi-Fi would be available on June 8th and the LTE version would be “later this summer.”

This gives the Xoom a now definitive window to get the LTE issues fixed and still ne the 1st since the Galaxy is still a month or better away.

    • tjhrulz

the preorder is a month late

      • Anonymous

Nothing I read says that pre-orders would start on that date, only that the Wi-Fi edition would come out on that date (in select locations). From there, everything else about the LTE is a supposition.

  • Stelv81

I just do not understand tablets. I had one got rid of it, because my computer is 10x more capable. Why not just by a laptop for the same price as this?

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

My laptop is a PITA to lug around my house, or to my friends or too the store etc….plus battery life lasts a lot longer than a laptop well at least mine….and obviously your laptop will be more powerful guess you just don’t get it

Gives hope of an LTE Galaxy S II.

  • Asdf

no one cares, keep this website about SMARTPHONES not TABLETS.  tablets are completely stupid if you already have a smartphone.
god, you post so much junk about tablets why not make another website
called tab.droid-life.com.  just separate all this stuff because i bet
90% of the people here no not care about tablets.

The pharmacy called, your overdue Xanax prescription is ready.

    • SD Scott

      I care…

    • Fanboy1

I agree. Tablets IMO are worthless if you have a laptop computer or smartphone. I know this because I used to have one. They are very limited and just novelty internet gadgets. They do not have to ability to do andy real work like programming, design, etc. People should go buy a laptop for $500 instead of buying a limited tablets and hooking a keyboard to it, just senseless.

      • Anonymous

Hehe…well thanks for sharing what people should do…on the same token, most people should get rid of their cars. You know with carpooling and car sharing, public transportation, there really isn’t a need to own a personal car anymore, they’re worthless too.? Ya see, its just a matter of choice and preference.

Its probably safe to say that most people that want a tablet already have a laptop (I do), yes it is extra and well, our society is already so use to having extra stuff. Have fun with the “stuff” you have! :-)

I care too and I’m sure many other readers do as well. Don’t like a post? Don’t read it it…it’s that simple.

I personally like that this site has branched out. I come here first to read about android, then hit up other sites for reference. Hell most other sites are linking back to this very site for reference. Keep up the good work guys, it does not bother me that the name is “Droid-Life” and you regularly discuss things other android things. “Droid” is so 2009, it does not define the flasgship phone anymore. The OG was great, the DX is still great, but new great phones are coming without the “Droid” tag and we have to accept that. Times are changing, and I am happy.

    • Anonymous

A year ago you might have more weight to your argument but now Android has evolved from phones that were mostly on VZ to other networks and now Tablets. This website started about Droid branded phones. But, what if there was a Droid branded Tablet? Should they not cover it b/c its not a phone? As Android evolves to other platforms so must Droid-life to cover it. By the way, there was a second website. Didn’t make much sense with android exploding everywhere. Its best to have it all in one place.

Then don’t click on it? It’s the simple things.

      I care as well

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

90% of people do care about tablets….you need to relax bro taking this a little to seriously

  • GraffitiKnight

    Preordered! Thanks Kellex.

  • Monkeydazed

Do verizon tablets get unlimited data or cap at 5gig? And do new customers get the same treatment since july 7th isnt here yet?

    • Anonymous

There have been tiered plans for tablets since they came out

    • Anonymous

I believe its capped like all mobile broadband cards are modems through VZ. As for the second part, if you sign up before July 7th you will lock in unlimited phone 3g or 4g data.

    • Anonymous

The new plans do not affect tablets or mi-fi cards as they are already tiered and do not offer an “unlimited” option.

  • http://maxtechnewz.blogspot.com/ Max

i think its a waste of money to get a data plan if you root and use wireless tether you can tether via Bluetooth and it uses less battery.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Tethering is going to come to an end so might as well just pay….I don’t like having to tether my phone to devices it makes my phone hot as hell and its just not as convienent as to just turn it on and it work

      • Anonymous

Agreed. After using my gTablet tethered for a while, I started to wish for a tablet with a built in radio.

If you are on the go itt burns through you phones battery quite quickly, and if you have the phone plugged in… well that isn’t exactly “Mobile” now is it?

  • FortitudineVincimus

    Thanks.. but I’ll pass

I thought my Xoom was the first 4G tablet? Thanks for the lies and/or broken promises on that advertising campaign, Verizon. You’re back in the doghouse.

    • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

I don’t think it’s Verizon to blame this time. I suspect Moto blew it.

      • Anonymous

You are probably right, but Verizon should have known better than to advertise the Xoom as the first 4G tablet then.

        • Anonymous

Moto has been blowing alot of things lately!!! Why are we so used to the half baked devices not able to get out the door from Moto??? My support for them is just about DONE!!!!

    • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

Actually the XOOM might end up beating it. Its rumored for Mid-July. This isn’t coming out until end of July.

  • Anonymous

and my Xoom still doesn’t have 4g LTE, i’m going to be really pissed if they never bring LTE to the Xoom.

    • Anonymous

time to start organizing for the inevitable class action ;-)

  • Rob Meyer

At what point does paying for Data for both smartphones and tablets become excessive? The industry is going in the wrong direction… Good for their pockets, bad for the consumer. I refuse to jump into the tablet market until there is a proper affordable solution to my mobile tech desires.

    • Granted

      Very smart post.

    • Anonymous

maybe it’s be part of the new family plan stuff.

      • Mr. Joe

        Bingo!

  • http://twitter.com/Realdude Haz

“the weight and thickness make it easily the top dog right now”   – How is that a big factor? I’d say wait another year or buy an Ipad if you’re thinking about getting a tablet right now. No question.

  • Tie 22

at least this had 4G LTE unlike xoom

    • Anonymous

The Xoom has turned out to be a big disappointment.

I don’t understand Motorola. After the D1 instead of riding the wave with awesome products they release locked down hardware with substandard screens.  Sad

      • Mr. Joe

I like how screens where never an issue till Kellex brought it up.

      • Anonymous

The xoom isn’t locked down.  Go buy an inferior and even more expensive tab 10.1 dipshit.

        • Anonymous

LOL  I wrote my post a little too quickly… I know the Xoom isn’t locked down, I was speaking about their products as a whole. Oh by the way I saw your movie on tv tonight… :)  (Die Hard) And speaking of dipshits, your acting was terrible.

          • Anonymous

Please list what makes the xoom bad or what makes the tab 10 better. Motorola’s execution is bad but their actual products are among the best. There is no tablet currently out that is better than the Xoom, the only aspect you could list is the screen but it’s not like the Xoom’s is terrible, it’s just not the top quality.

What does acting have to do with dipshits? I don’t follow. Why don’t we meet, you can get acquainted with my old pal Hans.

  • Mr. Joe

    YAY?
