Motorola Milestone 2 Becomes Official, Actually Does Shoot HD Video

After a video of the Milestone 2 appeared yesterday on Youtube, you got the feeling that Motorola was about to announce it.  Well today, that happened.  And yes, the non-US version apparently has the ability to shoot HD 720p video while the “Droid 2” doesn’t…

Further enhancements to the original MILESTONE include 720p HD video capture and playback allowing you to capture life’s moments in crystal clear detail…

You can view the entire press release here.

This one could be even great if it has a front-facing cam! Moto Milestone 2 Early Impression

  • Motoblah

It'll be interesting to see if the D2 gets an OTA update that allows for HD video sometime soon if the camera is the same as the Milestones…I sure hope so!

  • GlitchZero

Good, about time the Milestone got SOMETHING over the Droid.

    • lakerzz

Sorry. I think the “full” motoblur experience on the milestone 2 just might out weigh that feature…imo at least.

it still doesnt have an HDMI out to playback that nice 720p video.. lol.. 😛 besides the quality from DVD quality video to 720p isnt that much of a difference, Atleast when you play it within the phones display. And I'm sure one of our fabulous Devs will crack the code to give you all 720p delish!! 🙂

    • Sigmundroid

So what happens when I decide to playback my HD shot video
on a widescreen plasma or LCD monitor at home? (Exactly)

      Besides….the supposed 720P video shot on the Droid X isn't actually 720P.
      It's more like 540p.

  • I'm still curious as to why the D2 wasn't released with the capability of shooting HD video in the first place.

  • Frstsaxman

why would an american company give the better version of a product to people other than americans. or at least give everyone the same thing. I got to say though i dont like apple, at least thats something they do.

    • The350zWolf

I'll bet that the D2 world edition will have this enhancement

  • NorCalGuy

Well can't they (moto) release an update similar to the one the incridible received to enable them to shoot hd video as well??

  • Gardner24

Why would they leave that out! I got the incredible but if I was a D2 owner I would be pissed!!

  • RacecarBMW

how come they didnt announce a release date

  • EC8CH

    Shoots “Blurry” HD Video 😛

  • RumbaCembe

YES, hopefully this world edition gets better reception in my village in the jungle

  • JohnPA2006

They updated the software on the Droid Incredible to allow 720p, so its only logical
(makes spock-like eyebrow movement) that they enable 720p on the Droid 2 in a later software update.
I wouldnt worry to much about this, it will come, just gotta be patient.

    • Rizzidy

Given Motorola's track record with updates…

    • kellex

Just seems odd that it would be left off from the beginning. That was one of the reasons for people to not purchase the device.

      • J. T.

could it have been left off to offer a balance of options with people deciding between the Droid X and Droid 2? They seem to be pretty similar with the exception of the keyboard, camera, and screen size.

Since there's no overseas equivalent to the Droid X, they didn't need to “dumb down” the phone to increase competition with other models. another conspiracy theory to play with?

      • Motoblah

Maybe they felt since it was released with 2.2 that they could leave off HD video without much notice…and secretly update it once people started realizing. Who knows

    • Im not too worried. Being rooted has it advantages. Hehe. As soon as this “update” where to be leaked, us rooted users will tell ya'll know how it goes.

  • dshizzel

Interesting — I have a D2 and, yep, it's identical to MS2. I wonder if the same rooting instructions will work with it. I'd also like to understand how the camera is different from D2…

    • BAoxymoron

They just switched it out… actually if I remember correctly the 8mp camera in the Dx is actually smaller than the one in the Droid due to the components shrinking after a over a years development… but easier to change one machine(molding machine) in your factory instead of one machine AND replacing a part on another machine(aka putting the new camera in the bin instead of the old camera)…. that's just asking too much of a company for their “new release”

  • i want 720p. maybe they will charge to activate these features on a phone that already has the ability…oh wait…this isnt apple..

  • JT

Okay, the wait begins – how long will it take for a dev to figure out how to activate 720p HD video on the Droid 2 (or Droid 1 if possible)?

    • especially since they figured out how to get fm radio on the D2

  • FIRST!
