Google Makes Finding Parking Easier and Social

Social parking baby.  Google’s next application attempts to save you some gas, the environment and from breaking things.  Yep, their Open Spot Android app is your way to find parking easier and help others do so as well while earning points along the way.

This will need to catch on in cities before it can truly be effective and appreciated, so everyone download it now!

    gr8. i tested the new local app and it´s really good. now google have to port the same kind of experience and easy to find UI to the Local tab on the google search mobile page.

    This application is great, this would save a lot of time for many people who will use this application.I wonder how much does it cost.

    Total rip from SpotScout.

  • ChrisJ

    How about zipcar locations? Is there a way to find those?

  • trumpet444

    kind of reminds me of trapster

  • RJM

    I live so far out in the sticks that I have to pass a fishing camp to get IN to town. Parking is never an issue. Now of they come up with an app that lets me avoid driving behind a cotton baler for 5 miles……

    Interesting.

  • timarnette

    Anyone else having trouble with google maps. They seem not in the market.

  • Hank Spank

    This is a stupid app. In any metropolitan setting where this app might be useful, the spots will go too quickly for any posted alerts to be of any use unless the person taking the spot is a user of the app, AND posts that it's been taken.

    Friggin' pointless.

    Great idea. Although I think it would be much better integrated into Google Maps, especially in Navigation. {{-_-}}

    • Spencer

      Definitely agreed. I also think they somehow need to tie in Google Earth and Google Sky Map in Maps as well. Maybe as a layer, or labs? Idk but it seems like all these apps should at least be integrated with one another

        Very much so. That would save a lot of space and make each item easier to use. It would be just another one of those small ways in which Android kills iPhony. {{-_-}}

    I can see this pissing me off even more than parking without help… I can see it now: On my way to the towne center (where there's NEVER parking spots). I fire up Google Open Spot and see a couple of open spots near each other. I head over to those spots just to find out that a soccer mom and sports car driving d-bag who have no idea about the app, let alone have an Android phone, are pulling into my open spots… FAIL :/

  • Stephen

    Seems to work ok for me. You've got an awesome/well deserved following Kellex–Thanks again for all you do. I'm sure all those comments on android market will gain a few new readers :)

  • Yada__Yada

    Gonna give it a try.
