  • Yes,they don’t change my plan.i told them I am unemployed and I don’t know if I could work awhile because of my mom’s health.I want a new plan for $29.99 per month with the .5 to 1mps with free id caller with phone and no downloading video stop and go every two seconds,I want a smooth buffering video. It wasn’t like that before ,like  six months  ago! What going on with verizon?!It seem to me that they won’t do anything for the unemployed who been out of work for a long time and paying health insurance out of my pocket and asking for help to reduced my payment. At first she was happy to help out and all sudden, she find out thatI was a current verizon customer.”She said sorry to hear that but can’t help”.I don’t get it! $63 per month  is a LOT OF MONEY FOR ME! • I just talked to a “Kelly” at Verizon this morning to find out for sure.   I have 3 phones on my account.  2 original Droids and a Knack.  My plan has unlimited data and doesn’t expire until 11-16-11.   I asked her if I were eligible for being grandfathered in if I were to upgrade to a Bionic.  She confirmed it and said YES, I was.  So, I can upgrade and still have unlimited data on the 4g network.  You just have to have a smartphone for it to work.  Any upgrading from non-smartphone phones, and you will be tiered, since you didn’t have a data plan in the first place.  She also said I didn’t have to do an upgrade before my contract ran out.  I could wait till even after 11-16-11 if I wanted to.  So, longer battery life, lighter phone, better picture taking, etc, etc….  HERE I COME!!

  • I have a family plan with unlimited data, just tried to get a new phone and they say my plan does not support.  I have a samsung rogue, it has web, data, etc……why then cant I support a smart phone?  Sounds like they intend to force you into paying more for two separate lines.  I think I need to find a new company.

  • This is complete greed….I have been with Verizon for quite some time now and  did not yet upgrade to a smartphone so now they want to try that tier garbage with me.  Existing customers should not have to pay the same price for a limited amount of data as those who get unlimited data.  This is not right nor fair.  Existing customers if they’re going to be limited should pay less.   I hope Verizon starts to lose more and more customers because of this.  I would like to see Sprint who now offers unlimited data build more towers and grow cause I’m looking to switch.

  • So much for me finally upgrading to a smartphone. Do you think Verizon will ever offer unlimited data plans again?

  • im a verizon customer i dont have the unlimited data plan since im a customer can i still get it

  • Well, my contract was up last month. Can you just purchase a phone, like the new iphone(currently have an LG Env Touch) off like Ebay and just have them move everything to the new phone without having to sign for a whole new contract?

  • Not completely true.  I have a “multimedia” phone with an unlimited plan and was told that if I wanted a smartphone I would have to move to the new data plans.

  • So if I add the unlimited data plan now and hang on till the new Iphone is released and upgrade in September, can I still use the unlimited data plan? Could someone verify so that I can change the plan before July 7th?? 🙂

  • well brothers on this.  But he’s had his for almost a year.  Switched from AT&T because of the crappy reception near the Mississippi in the midwest.

  • So if i am due for an upgrade and have the unlimited data do I need to upgrade now? I want to wait for the Droid 3 but that comes out the 7th. So if I wait to upgrade will i lose my plan or no?

  • If you are an existing customer but are looking to get a smartphone for the first time are you still grandfathered in?

  • Fine by me, I get a 4G phone which also has 3G, keep 3G unlimited and be happy until this $hit passes, that is if I even stay with Verizon.

Got to figure what they’ll do, we have two phones, if they don’t want us, then we’ll leave.

I’m not losing my unlimited switching, and it will be after the 7th because there hasn’t been aDroid yet worthy enough IMHO to go to from ym CM7’d OG.

    VZ deals – we stay.

VZ doesn’t – you lose two accounts.

Repeat this on a large scale and figure the math, there is going to be an exodus to Sprint.

  • I’m confused. I don’t have a smartphone but am planning on getting a Droid 3 which is rumored to be released on, you guessed it, July 7. I’ve been in a family plan for a long time. Do you only get to keep unlimited if you already have it? And does this sound like a good idea: buy a Droid x2 (probably same pricing as Droid 3) under 2 year contract (I’m eligible for an upgrade) on July 6 and trade it in (can you trade in a phone within 14 days for free if it’s equal price?) when the Droid 3 is released. Help please! I hate my LG dare ssssoooooooooo much 🙁

  • Droid-life mentioned on Fox 8 news Cleveland this morning! They used your tiered data pricing for version.

  • Thank you a lot for providing individuals with an extraordinarily memorable chance to read from this website. It really is so nice and also packed with a great time for me and my office mates to visit the blog at least 3 times in 7 days to study the latest items you will have. And of course, we are always astounded with your outstanding pointers served by you. Certain 3 points in this post are in truth the most effective we have all ever had.

Read more on my site does hydrocodone have codine in it!

  • If you have an unlimited data plan for a feature phone, can you keep that plan if you wanted to upgrade to a smartphone?

  • If people are getting different answers from the reps, phone calls etc then it’s pretty obvious that nobody knows. Just because you talk to Ben on the 24th and he says you’re grandfathered in it doesn’t mean you won’t talk to Edna on the 9th and she’ll tell you you’re S.O.L.

  • Does anyone know if the Droid3 will be 4G?
    I’ve been waiting for a 4G w/physical qwerty keys.
If it won’t be 4G, then I’ll just have to get a 3G so I can have unlimited before the pricing plan changes.
    Plz reply, thanks all!!

      • Thanks Bewara2009,
That changes everything for me.  I only wanted 4G so I could be on the phone & using the GPS simultaneously.  I’ll probably have to go w/Droid2Global to get the qwerty keys & the unlimited plan before it runs out.
        Guess I’ll have to wait 2 yrs for a 4G w/qwerty keys.
Such a disappointment since Sprint has what I need–except for the coverage area. :/

  • I just used the Verizon chat on their website and th rep was practically yelling at me (using ALL CAPS at times, yes seriously) and swearing that they don’t know anything about any new plans and wont until the actual day that happens. useless rep.

  • Your all inquiring about verizons upcomming data rates in the wrong place. Try calling verizon or walking into a store. Prior to 7/7, all verizon sales clerks should be trained on the new data plans along with who is effected. These leaked/ PS’d images do not reflect what I was told by a store employee nor phone center employee. Better get lockede in on 7/6 at the latest

  • Sounds good, my brother and my father have the envy 2 with unlimited data for feature phones I believe so I may have to force them to upgrade before the 7th

  • I went to a. Verizon store today to inquire about the new data planes slated for 7/7. Since my current contract ends on 7/6. If I do not get locked into a 4g/3g plan on 7/6, I will be forced into the teired data plans since my contract ended. Your info for being grandfathered is incorrect. Your ony grandfathered if your currently on a 4g plan or 3g plan. Once you try to go from a 3g plan to a 4g plan after 7/7 your going to be forced into the new data structure.

  • So wait… I’m up for upgrade NOW. Do I have to upgrade before 7/7 or not to keep my unlimited?  Or as a current customer do I get unlimited *whenever* I upgrade? I’m confused by the verbiage in this story.

    • I am confused too but from what I gather, as long as you are not a new customer or adding a new line, you should still be able to get the unlimited. At least that’s how I understand it.

    • ok you know how you can upgrade after 20 months? if you hit 24 months, i think you’re done cause you have to sign a new contract. they give you 4 months to renew and upgrade the phone.

  • We need some hero on the inside to tell us what happens if we upgrade our phone to a 4G phone after 7/7 if we are already an unlimited 3G customer.

  • I bit the big one and called Verizon. The rep told me that current customers would be grandfathered in and that they would not force me to change my data plan. He also said that upgrading would not affect it either. He said the only way my data plan would change was if I called them and told them I wanted the new plan. 🙂 im not freaking out as much now 🙂

  • Sprint is calling my name now all version had to do is say go with your fahther!

  • So, to clarify, even though I’m currently on a family plan (I have no data, although my parents do) I will be able to upgrade to an unlimited plan with the current pricing?

    • Yes, to clarify you can’t not continue with your current pricing and plan. You can upgrade to unlimited as long as its not after 7/7

  • so even if you upgrade your plan you can keep the unlimited? with 4g too? if thats the case, SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 HOPE YOU COME WITH LTE CAPABILITIES!!!!

    • it won’t be out by the 7th… i’m getting the charge on the 6th and praying the galaxy 2 comes out b4 my 14days is up so i can switch up…if its 4G if not i’ll stick to the charge

  • Looks like ill stick with Verizon. Ive used 300 gigabytes of data and i do not want tiered data!!

  • just spoke to vzw cs and was told i’d have to upgrade to a 4G phone b4 the 7th to get unlimited 4G forever.

i realllly wanted to wait but looks like i will get the samsung charge in 2 weeks. i can get it for 249 now but i can get it for 199 if i wait until the 6th of july…damn vzw y couldn’t u make the droid3 4G….only good thing is that phones will have lower prices so if i want to i can buy a phone i really want and sell the 4G one i get in 2 weeks.

    • I spoke to one too and decided that they are still clueless.  I suggest you not put much stock in what you heard from a CSR.

My plan is to wait until the 6th to make my decision.  Hopefully Verizon will clarify this issue by then.

    • Hi Droiduser27,
Are you saying that the Droid 3 won’t be 4G??  :O

I hope not, because I’ve been waiting for it thinking it will be 4G.
      Thank you.

  • I sure hope this is true.  I OG Droid is desperately clinging to life.  I was to the point of buying a Thunderbolt this morning until I saw this article.  Now I think i might try to keep my old Droid breathing till the GSII or Bionic surfaces.

    • I was in the same boat. My plan was to upgrade on 7/6 and get the Droid Charge, then sell it on eBay when the Bionic comes out and buy the Bionic outright.

  • I don’t have data or a smartphone now but If I were to buy a smartphone now (out of contract) and get data, would I be able to keep unlimited data after 7/7?

Also I have a feature phone now because I’m waiting on something like the D3. Would I go to tiered data if I got unlimited data for my feature phone now then bought a smartphone later?

    • you would have to get into a smartphone out of contract before 7/7 to maintain the unlimited data on your next upgrade.  Whether or not you have to go with an LTE device now for that that to be true, or if you can just stick with a 3g device is still unknown

    • I mentioned this to someone else: get upgrade pricing on a Droid Charge now to lock in a data plan, then flip it on eBay for $500-$600 and buy the phone you want outright when it comes out.

  • I wonder if this mean you will be able to keep you unlimited plan even if you switch between from a droid to an iphone and maybe back to a droid… Who knows?

  • I wonder if this mean you will be able to keep you unlimited plan even if you switch between from a droid to an iphone and maybe back to a droid… Who knows?

  • I was told the same thing, that current customers keep unlimited data plan even when upgrading, from a VZW customer service rep a couple months ago. I was had called in about something different, but the VZW CFO has just started talking about tiered data plans coming this summer.

  • Gee, was waiting to get wife an iPhone 5 this Fall, but maybe I should pull the trigger now on an iPhone 4 to lock in the unlimited data plan.

    • if she’s not on a smart phone plan then i would look into getting a cheap/free on contract smartphone to hold her over.  That way you still get the unlimited data but you don’t have to fork over $200 for a phone you’ll only use a couple of months (and you’ll still have to buy the ip5 off contract).

  • if you’re in the “I have 3G unlimited right now and am eligible for an upgrade” boat, try this:

buy a 4G phone week or a few days before the 7th.  Verizon has a 14 day return policy (at least the rep that I talked to told me that).  Once the 7th rolls around, you should have the definitive answer as to whether or not not the 3G and 4G plans are the same or not (ie, whether people with an unlimited 3G plan can upgrade to a 4G handset and keep their unlimited data).  If the 3G and 4G plans are different, you’re good cause you’ve already got the 4G unlimited (but you’ll have to keep your handset for awhile before you can upgrade OR upgrade at full price – the price you pay for unlimited 4G data).  If 3G & 4G plans are the same, just return the 4G handset that you just got, go back to your old phone, and upgrade when you find a 4G phone you want.

    • This makes sense! I’m in the exact same boat

       – I am currently out of a contract (been resisting upgrading for 3+ years) and i have unlimited data- I can either upgrade to a 3g or 4g phone

      – upgrading to 3g phone guarantees i keep my unlimited data  – official confirmation

      – upgrading to 4g could make me lose my unlimited data option – no confirmation

      • It’s been confirmed by one of my friends who works support for Verizon that moving from 3G to 4G AFTER the 7th will cause you to lose your Unlimited Data Plan.

  • It’s a business…and like any OTHER business…you do NOT have to buy their services.  Seeing as this APPEARS to be an American company…people won’t do a thing about it.  Just like gas prices. You continue to pay the price instead of staying home and shutting down the country.  Stop using Verizon’s services and they will drop their prices.  Actually, it’s quite simple economics…charge what the populace will bear………

  • How about if you upgrade before the 7th and use the 30 day return policy…. and return the Thunderbolt for the Droid 3?

  • So, question, say I have an EnV3 and am a Verizon customer and plan to buy a Droid3 on July 7th, will I have unlimited or not?  I don’t currently have a data plan but I am a Verizon customer.

  • I talked to Verizon yesterday and had this question escalated.  The answer I received from Verizon was exactly the opposite of what this article is purporting to be the truth.

      • I never said it was gospel truth, I’m just telling you that there is evidence that contradicts the rumor in this article.

        • What IS the evidence?  You are providing nothing except some story.  I woujld tend to think that the printed material provided here at DL presents enough actual evidence….especially as opposed to someone “saying” they heard domething.

          • lolu

The story is the evidence.  Choose to believe it, or don’t.  That’s your prerogative.  Just as it’s your prerogative to choose to believe this article.  I’m just telling you what I’ve heard.  Sure, it may be false.  You are free to weigh it however you want.

    • Did you get that in writing sir?  lol
Because if you didn’t?  Hearsay doesn’t hold up.

And before you even think of replying with, “well, why would be lie to me?”
The answer is:  he was misinformed OR Verizon’s actual policy has not been amended officially.

Speculation is where we are at, but I’m inclined to agree with Clempka.
If a system has 3G and 4G plans as “different” plans, then up until July 7th you will have
      “unlimited” 3 ans 4g data….Makes sense, right?

      After the switch?
Changing your plan means changing your plan especially IF you have a 3G phone NOW
and before July 7th, or thereafter.

        • I’ve got it in writing that Verizon is treating these two Unlimited Data Plans differently and that moving to 4G from your grandfathered Unlimited 3G Data Plan after the 7th WILL bump you off your Unlimited Plan.

      • I tend to think that isn’t true.

I’ll tell you why, 4G does not have even close to a national footprint right now. I know Sprint charges the $10 fee for their “4G” wether you are covered or not, but VZW is still not covered enough, I think, to make that distinction just yet on pricing between 3G and 4G. I think we are a little way off from seeing something like that happen.

Alas though, no need for everyone to get snippy with each other here. It’s all COMPLETE RUMOR until we hear it directly from Verizon. Discussion and speculation are good things, so long as they stay relatively positive 😉

      • verizon does not differentiate between 3g and 4g. they are both the same when it comes to pricing and plans.

  • according to my rep switching from a 3g to a 4g will not change your unlimited data plan.  I asked him directly.  regardless of feature codes he said this was accounted for

  • “Existing customers can keep their current pricing when renewing or upgrading.”

Until they decide not to let you keep your plan.  I have a family plan that I got 2 years ago that includes unlimited data.  However, despite the fact that it includes unlimited data, if I want to upgrade my wife’s and my phone to smartphones, I have to change plans.  So, I have to change plans so each phone has its own data plan.. all told its going to be an extra $60/month for me.  So this may or may not be true.

    • Completely different situation than the above.  Family plans currently do not allow data to be shared.  You have to purchase data for each line that’s part of a family plan.  There’s no unlimited data for the entire plan.  So, if you or your wife currently don’t have a smartphone, then those lines don’t have unlimited data associated with them directly.  You have to pay for data for each line, so of course you have to adjust your plan.  What’s being discussed in the article is renewing a contract and keeping the plan for that line exactly as it is – with data already included on the line.

There have been rumors that Verizon will introduce data sharing on family plans, but that will very likely be capped data and not unlimited data.

  • My guess is they saw the reactions of several thousand posters going ape-s$#t about how they were going to cancel and made a quick revision to the plan.

This is a good compromise by VZW. I guess loyalty counts for at least a little something after all.

  • okay so say i get the thunderbolt this weekend as a new line to a family plan. do i still get unlimited data since it is before 7/7? or will this require the new pricing?

  • I called about this earlier this morning and was surprised.  I can confirm that if you upgrade a year from now, you’ll still have unlimited data at current price grandfathered in (their words) so long as you don’t cancel service or change your line in such a way where the smartphone data package has been removed.

  • don’t forget those weather widgets etc take up major megabytes (HTC Sense UI moto mother*****ing blur etc).

  • I know this is a beaten down question but there are contradicting answers. If you have unlimited data currently and renew after july 7th then you do or dont get to keep your unlimited data plan?

I know people that have renewed their contracts with verizon and were able to keep their grandfathered plans that are no longer available(text and voice)

    • You get to keep your current plan when upgrading. Simplest explanation is that if you are a new customer or adding a NEW data line to your account, those lines will be subject to the new and “improved” pricing models.

      Clear?

  • The only thing to do is to write angry letters and emails, and when that doesnt work just grumble every month when you get your bill.

  • So they differentiate between a package with 3G and one with 4G? So if I were to create a new line with an older phone as a placeholder it wouldn’t count towards a 4G phone (Bionic or S2) when they eventually come out?

  • I’m on Verizon and have a voice only plan. If I want to upgrade to data (a smartphone) at a later date, would I get unlimited or tiered?

  • Verizon rep confirmed on the phone that if you’re on contract you get to keep whatever data plan you have already selected. Made him confirm it 3 times.

Thunderbolt users rocking unlimited 4G rejoice.

    • Does that mean if I upgrade from a 3G to a 4G phone I no longer get unlimited data?

  • Seems as though Verizon foresaw a mass exodus if they didn’t put in this provision.

    •  verizon does not differentiate between 3g and 4g. they are both same when it comes to pricing and plans.

      • For now… I find it hard to believe that once there is full LTE then there will be no difference in price.  Really makes me nervous about this tiered system.  I really want the Bionic, but am seriously considering using my upgrade on Charge and then when the Bionic drops selling and paying retail.  I have seen and heard that although it is the same price, in the system it is different coding.  This is what makes me want to lock in a 4G phone now.

      • They do differentiate internally how the plan is handled. It shows up on your bill and everything as the same plan right now, but they ARE different plans.

  • Great news. hope its true. Now, to see if Root will come to the Droid3 and Verizon can gladly lock me in for another 2 years.

  • We smartphone users must really be sucking down some data. 8MB/s on 3G when tethering for free to the xbox360, can’t complain.

  • So if i switch to VZW before July 7th and get the DINC2 (which I dont want, but really want the galaxy s2) can I return that after 30 days an say I don’t like it?  Just keep doing that until the galaxy s2 comes out?  I was going to switch as soon as that came out,  but i want the unlimited data

  • I am not budging right for a new phone, 3G or 4G, or a new contract until the jibberish starts flowing directly from Verizon. I already have unlimited data on all 3 lines, so who gives a rats a-s-s.

  • Isn’t this similar to AT&T?  I think they let you keep your unlimited usage even when you renewed or upgraded (to a new phone).  I left AT&T for Verizon before I could renew to know for sure, but I think that was/is the policy there.

  • My wife doesn’t have data on our family plan for budgetary reasons. Does this mean I need to sign her now if she ever wants unlimited data? We are Verizon customers, but do you already have to be in the data plan to keep the old pricing?

  • Can someone please answer my question..
I am in a family plan right now, but with no smartphone at all. We all are ready for an upgrade As two of the members in the plan are waiting for droid bionic and iphone 5 to come out, can we still get the unlimited data plan? Or do we have to a have a smartphone  with the unlimited data plan to take on this action?

    • You need a smartphone for the data plan to be added. I’m not sure that’s a feature you can add to a dumbphone. Get a Palm Pix for $49 at newegg, get your unlimited data locked in. When the new phones come out, use your upgrades.

    • To answer your question, I believe each line is separate. So if you upgrade only one phone tomorrow and got unlimited, I don’t believe you can do the same to another phone if you upgrade a month from tomorrow.  That’s part of the reason why I believe they’re doing this whole family data plan thing to share all the data.

    • 1. no… you have to get the unlimited before july 7… and 2…. there is no ijunk 5 coming out this year 😀

  • I just renewed and got a thunderbolt, what happens in two years if I simply buy what ever phone is out then at full price. Would my contract stay the same since I didn’t renew?

  • I have a plan grandfathered in from Alltel that I am STILL on…it’s much better than one of Verizon’s plans so I am not worried…just keep grandfathering me in and I will be fine 🙂

  • I sell cell phones. Currently in Verizon’s systems the unlimited 3g plan is different than the unlimited 4g plan in the computer. When someone upgrades from a 3g phone to a 4g phone the computer automatically drops the 3g plan and adds the 4g plan. What this means is if you upgrade to a 4g device after the 7th, the computer will drop you 3g unlimited plan and add one of the tiered 4g plans. 4g devices are completely incompatible with 3g data plans, the computer wont allow them on the same line. I upgraded to a 4g phone so I’ll be grandfathered into the 4g plan and not the 3g plan.

    • What your computer says now is not necessarily relevant. When the new pricing structure goes into effect, the pricing databases will be revised.

    • i don’t think the plan itself is different.  when I went through the upgrade process to see what the difference would be, the unlimited data plan stayed the same, but they added and removed a few features.  but the key to me was that there was no 4G data package – it was simply referred to as “Unlimited Email & Web for Smartphones”.

The items that were removed were national access roaming, NE2, general IP nat address pda, and 3G device – each of which was listed as $0.00.

      see attached.

      • I have had my Samsung Galaxy Tab since way before 7/7 and never had the option for “unlimited”. Any thoughts and what should be next course of action? Thanks, Charles.

        • Tablets never EVER had a unlimited plan especially since at that time companies were already starting to shine away from unlimited data plans (blame AT&T for that)

    • If true, this is the most important post on this thread.  So Do I use my upgrade on a Thunderbolt or Charge that I don’t really like that much to get 4G locked in or just hope that unlimited 3g will be transferable to unlimited 4g

      • The fact that it says existing customers will keep the same “pricing” when “upgrading” is positive though.  As well as the fact that they say new “lines” will get the new pricing.

On the other hand this is probably just misinformation by Verizon so we don’t all upgrade to unlimited 4g before 7/7  🙂

    • It’s funny how you guys guess at what Verizon’s business plan is…none of you have any idea what their plan is. Verizon wants to keep their customers, not lose them. If you are grandfathered into an unlimited data package, it doesn’t matter if it’s 3g or 4g. But you guys keep guessing – it’s fun to watch.

  • This is gonna sound really stupid but since my brother’s line is suspended and he never had data if he comes back after July 7th he would be subject to tiers?  Verizon wouldn’t be nice and make unlimited a thing for anyone that’s been a customer before July 7th whether you had data or not?

    • Its pretty clear – you have to have the unlimited data plan before 7/7. You need to reactivate your brother’s line and add a data plan if you want in.

    • I would think you have to be a current unlimited data customer in good standing to be grandfathered in.

    • I would think you have to be a current unlimited data customer in good standing to be grandfathered in.

  • File it away as a rumor along with the prices and allowances you posted about with no physical evidence. You post this PICTURE and seem more skeptical about it than you do with the heresay you’ve been presented previously about the cost of plans. For shame.

  • What if you are a current customer without a smartphone, but buy one after July 7.   What if you have a 3g phone with unlimited and then buy a 4g phone?

  • Hahaha, next thing you know Verizon deliberately leaked this to get their sales up before July 7 and then on July 8th they’ll be like “NOT! You’re next upgrade will be to a tiered plan”. But I guess an additional two years to ride out wouldn’t be bad.

    • They’ll give details before they launch the plans and all of our questions should be answered within a week of its deployment.

    • They’ll give details before they launch the plans and all of our questions should be answered within a week of its deployment.

  • It is not photo shopped.  I work at a retailer and I just recieved that same picture as an email attachment from the owner of our store.

  • well don’t be bamboozle because VZW will say that upgrading or new for 2 or what ever will be considered a new phone I.E. a new contract… so in essence you will be on the tiered data in then end…

Question: How can anyone be so dumb to think other wise, when VZW has done what they have in the past to squeeze every cent from you… They even made policy that says if you have a scratch on your phone they can charge you to trade it in or to replace it or do a factory warranty on it… Its all about money and I for one won’t take it anymore… I will be switching  from big red to the other carriers who don’t lock their phones and who don’t rape you in the end because they want to thank me as a customer…

If, at&t and t-mobile join forces which i think was the idea (i may be off with the company merger but there is one in the works between 2 carriers to merge) they will be better than big red because they will own 40% of the international market of cell phones…

My thoughts were, that VWZ can’t base plans on bandwidth usage as they say they are doing here, which is why their in a lawsuit over what the FCC says can or cant be done…

    • Wow.

We don’t know EXACTLY how all this is going to work yet. Until “VZW” announces something official it is all rumor and speculation.

But, let me get this straight, instead of evil VZW, you will go running to AT&T/T-Mobile? You clearly have done your exhaustive research. Because, you would know AT&T has had this sort of pricing structure in place for a while now and T-Mobile will throttle your data after 2gb. But, I’m sure you knew that. Of course, you are also right that when any company becomes larger and swallows up the competition, it is always better for the consumer because that company is now bigger.

And thank god AT&T doesn’t lock their phones. Unless your speaking of the Atrix or the ability to sideload apps. Yup, AT&T is your friend and they want to thank you!! They don’t want your money.

The FCC argument is spot on, oh, wait, the one where they will be fighting the FCC over charging for tethering due to the agreement with the FCC on not limiting how the end user can USE the data or they are paying for or blocking apps in the marketplace?? That must be what you meant as your previous statements were so solidly rooted in fact.

Thank you for your enlightening contribution to the discussion.

  • So I have 2 lines right now that are upgradeable… do I need yo renew my contact on these 2: lines to keep my unlimited on those lines?

  • hmm…anyone want to send me an OG droid for free so I can lock the wife in at the current rates since she’s not due for an upgrade until December?

  • I reassess my previous position that this new pricing structure is why they were holding off on the SGS2 and the Bionic..no, no….this is a direct effect of the upcoming iPhone 5. I still do not like this pricing and it doesn’t change my opinion of Verizon in any way. But if I am still covered (on month to month right now) for when I upgrade, then all good.

  • If they ever do try to move you to tiered-pricing when upgrading, especially if your contract is up, you can do what I always do and express interest in another company’s deals. I got them to honor the 2-for-1 deal that they had on the OGDs back in last March even though I was only eligible for one upgrade by saying, “Oh, when is my contract up? September? Ok, well, nevermind on this, I’ll just wait til then and get an iPhone.”  Suddenly I was eligible for the BOGO deal. So they’ll bend/break rules to keep customers.

Apparently they can’t detect bullshit very well, like I’d ever get an iPhone!

  • So as long as I’m on contract I’m fine? Sounds too good to be true and I get my last NE2 on 7/9/11 so if I upgrade after do I still get to keep my unlimited data? Also if phones on my exsisting plan want a smartphone at a later date will they have to get tiered data if they’re upgrading from a feature phone? Sorry just curious about my situation. I as well will be on my mom and dad’s plan FOOR-EV-VER! (Squince voice from sandlot)

      • Some More what? how can i have more of something if i haven’t had nothing? .
on a serious note i hope sgs comes with lte so i can upgrade.

  • I just got off the phone w/ a CSR who was at least able to put a “Log entry” in confirming that I’ll keep the Unlimited plan w/ the Sam GII when it comes out.  after that, honestly, we’ll see.  not sure it will stick, but it’s better then nothing, and politely tells them how thrilled we are with the new pricing structure.

  • My question: I have a droid x but am currently contact- free( ended, haven’t renewed/ upgraded since waiting for Bionic). I have family plan with my.1 smartphone. Do i have to renew now to keep unlimited? Or since I am current but off- contract will oit remain when I upgrade? My. brain is not wrapping around this well….

    • i believe if your contract has ended, you have to buy a new contract, kicking you off. you have to renew. thats why you have that 4 month grace period.

  • So What will happen if my contract ends but I dont renew because I am waiting on the late summer releases of handsets? Technically I will be on a month to month basis with no more obligation contract wise….. will this count against me as far as being able to keep my unlimited data plan or will I have to renew my two year contract prior to 7/7/11?????

  • AT&T let you grandfather in unlimited plans right?  So what’s the big deal.  Makes more sense to let you keep your plan than having a huge clusterfuck of backlash since that would be the inevitable result.

  • july 6th my n2 becomes active, if i buy the thunderbolt for example and pick 4G i can stay with it 4ever? great…but what if i pick the DX2 and 20 months from now pick a 4G phone? will i still get a 4G unlimited or do have to pick a 4G phone on the 6th? if so does anyone know if the galaxy 2 comes out b4 july 6th and if it will be 4G?

  • I wonder how this will affect their Enterprise Data Plan which I am already paying $45 to use Good Mail?  Also, I am out of contract so I wonder if I will have to renew a 2 year contract before July to keep unlmited or is it only if you are a paying current customer?

  • this new pricing is to make as much money possible off of people jumping over for the iphone 5

  • So if I’m not on a 4g Data plan by then I’ll have to get the “tiered” data plan when I go to 4g?

    • 3G or 4G doesn’t matter.. what matters is if you have a data plan before 7/7. If yes, you’re fine. If no, then you’ll be on the new tiered data plan. If you add a new line that needs a data plan after 7/7, you’ll also be on the new tiered data plan.

      • tiered data also applies to 3g phones? I had just ignorantly assumed this tiered data was only applying to 4g

      • Thanks. That’s what I got from the article but someone’s comment made me think about it b/c 4g is a different type of data then 3g. And VZ might try to pull a bait and switch on me.

  • So does anyone know if its possible to add a unlimited data plan on a dumbphone (LG VX8600)?

    • No, different rate plans. I tried switching my current plan to a dumb phone when I traveled overseas and Verizon said I’d have to switch my data plan entirely else it wouldn’t activate.

  • As an ex vzw employee thats how i thought it would go.  There were still people on retired plans all the time.

    • I’m a tech (contract non-emp) in a VZW store, I knew about this for 2wks now.. As long as they keep those of us unlimited when we upgrade, I’m fine with that. Just want a new LTE phone to come out so I can upgrade again.

  • Still thinking about jumping ship to sprint. It all depends on how this. Plays out. I wanna get a new phone in a couple months but i dont wanna be on a contract, basically so i can leave anytime i want.

  • I’m thinking that if this is true, then at some point in the future (say.. the end of your 2-year contract if you sign this year) they will have revised this and everyone will be on the tiered plan.

  • but my main concern is if i upgrade from a 3g to a 4g phone after my 7/7. Will we get unlimited 4g? that is the question. I could care less about 3g anymore. I have an original droid and im ready to upgrade to a 4g phone. But  i dont want to have to get onto tiered data plans for switching from a 3g to a 4g phone. Or i might have to jump ship now to a 4g phone or stick with a 3g phone. Both are pretty much lose lose for me. As a. i want a 4g phone. B. i want the bionic or SGS ll(which i pray is 4g).

    • I’m in the EXACT situation as you.  I have a Droid 1 and I hate it and want to upgrade somewhat soon.  Plus, the battery is starting to go, I’ve had the same battery since I got the phone which was like 3 days after it was first released.  The only problem for me is the day I’m eligible for an upgrade is the 7th.  It effing SUCKS!  So for me, my question is if I’d be able to keep my unlimited plan while upgrading to a 4G phone.  If so, I’d prob wait a couple months or until my phone’s battery completely goes to see what’s out there eg. Bionic or Galaxy II or whatever.  If I can only upgrade to a 3G unlimited plan then I’d prob get the Pre 3 which isn’t horrible imo.

      • Just think about it…There are reasons why we all have “dates” with which to upgrade our lines…
Everyone can’t just upgrade because _______.

You want a 4g Phone, ok cool.
Up until the 7th you can get ANY 4G phone that is available and have unlimited 4G data.

But you want the Bionic or Galazy S II.  Now, if they are both 4G phones that come out AFTER
July 7th, care to take a guess which type of plan you’d have?  Enter tiered data pricing…

You will NOT have unlimited 4G data period. Verizon may let accounts do it anyway so you can take
a chance and talk to a shot caller who can make the appropriate changes to allow you to have an unlimited 4G data plan BUT I suspect they will look at your prior data usage before letting you do so.

They will not take the hit financially just to make you happy.
I’m a businessman and if you racked up between 10-30GB/month of usage you would never
get unlimited data!  It doesn’t make business sense to do so.

If I were you I would personify perseverance and speak to every CSR you can
UNTIL you get an early upgrade….Just so you know….I was not eligible for an upgrade until
September (on BOTH of my family lines) and guess what?  I was given 2 early upgrades.

When all was said + done I was able to “adjust” my bill (not discount the phones) and get 2 thunderbolts, both for $199.99 (even though tax is applicable and sux!)  I have yet to activate my T-Bolt because I’m not sure what the crap I’m gonna do!!!  It works very well and the battery life survives the entire day for my girl.

It feels like a quality device.

  • SIAP…I currently have a dumbphone, im waiting for the bionic or SGS2. should i add a unlimited data plan to my Dumbphone (if thats even possible) before 7/7 so that when i upgrade to a smartphone i have unlimted data?

    • If they will let you add unlimited data to your dumbphone, then go for it…otherwise you’ll be stuck with the new tiered data plans.

    • I would do that I was going to do: buy the Droid Charge now, then flip it on eBay when the SGS2 or Bionic comes out and buy the Bionic outright. The Charge is currently fetching $600 on eBay, but obviously it will go down a little bit by the time those phones come out.

      • This is my thought as well.  Checking out wirefly.com, amazon.com and letstalk.com to get the best price.  Just missed out on a wirefly.com coupon that would give you the Charge for 149!  Bummer….

    • actually by the sounds of things that sounds genius provided your willing to shell out 10 dollars a month extra. But heck if you can afford it sounds like good plan get a cheap or free smartphone on unlimited data. Then upgrade your dumbphone to a smartphone you want switch the lines and viola!!!! unlimited data. Again provided they dont make people take tiered data plans for 4g phones. But again everyone remember this like kellex said semi rumor right now. waiting on official info

  • Ok…. So my wife has a DInc  with the unlimited, I’ve got my old EnV2 still without a dataplan, and my daughter has an LG Cosmos, also dataless. We are all on one family plan. When/if I upgrade, am I eligible for the unlimited data, or just my wifes line?

    • Seems like only your wife’s line would qualify to keep the unlimited data plan.  The others would probably only be able to add data from the new packages if you add it after 7/6.

    • Going to assume probably just your wife’s line, I highly doubt Verizon would make it that lenient. You might want to hustle into a Verizon store and upgrade your/your daughters phone if you want unlimited.

      • Yeah, pretty much what I figured. I’m due for an upgrade (actually, my contract expired in feb) but my daughters only 9 months in. But we’re cutting costs, not adding an extra $30/month.

  • I certainly hope this is true.  It’s what AT&T did when they switched to tiered pricing, but I think most people assumed contract renewals would be on the new pricing scheme because it is so much worse than the old $30 unlimited option.  AT&T actually offered cheaper plans for less data hungry users, while Verizon’s are just worse for the consumer across the board.

If we remain grandfathered in even after renewals I’m going to just sit tight.  I have an upgrade now, but I’m not impressed with any of Verizon’s phones right now.  My contract expires in the middle of July, so I’m just gonna go month to month until they release a phone worth buying (Bionic or SGS2).  I assume going month to month wont kill my eligibility for unlimited data as I’m still an existing customer with that package.

  • My contract is up, and I haven’t yet signed a new agreement. So I guess I won’t be grandfathered?

      • I do, I have unlimited plan on my Dinc, but my contract has been up since last fall as i bought the phone at retail price. I hope you are correct.

  • If that is the case, then sweet! Hopefully that’s all true. I’ve been a Verizon subscriber for over 10 years, probably more, and would hate to lose what I have going.

Sucks for new contract holders though…this isn’t exactly a great way to attract new people.

  • One of the times ill be glad to be wrong. Keep an eye on your plan though. Don’t be surprised if they try to sneak you into a tiered place.

  • so wait.. where are all the 500 haters yesterday about to jump ship??? should you all not be jumping for joy and posting up??

  • Sooo,
I got an OG droid at launch. I’m due for an upgrade but if I wait until after 7/7 will I still keep unlimited data?

    • It’s real easy: if you’re a VZW customer already with a data plan, you keep your unlimited data plan. If you become a new customer after 7/7 or you add a new line that needs a data plan, you’ll be on the new tiered data plans.

  • Ok so hear me out on this one: I am on my parents family plan right now, but if this is true then it would make sense for me to bail on it and get my own to lock myself in. If the Droid 3 doesn’t come out until after the 7th, could I upgrade now (and just get like an X2 or something) and then use the 15 day return thing and hope the 3 comes out within those 15 days. Or would returning the phone after the 7th count as upgrading and I would lose my unlimited? Hope that makes sense.

    • actually that makes complete sense. The only thing im not sure of is if it will count as upgrading after but it shouldnt as you are not satisfied with the phone. Idk. Like it said makes since in theory and logically but then again carriers arent the most logical people in world now are they

      • Haha true, like anything Verizon has ever done “makes sense”. I will probably just go into my local store and have a little chat with someone. Because I was going to be ready to get off my parents plan in the next year or so anyways, so it would make sense to get locked into unlimited now. Just wish the Droid 3 would hurry up already!

  • “existing customers may be able to keep their current pricing and data plan when renewing or upgrading as long as they are locked in prior to 7/7.  And from what we’ve been told, that’s a forever type of thing – as in, you can upgrade a year from now and still hang out with your best friend, the unlimited data plan.”Kellex can you help me understand. It seems im understanding conflicting info in this comment. It says first you wont be affected if you upgrade only before 7/7 but then the next statement seems to be saying that if for example my full 2 year upgrade is on 7/20 i wont be affected and can keep unlimited data. sooooooooooooo will i be affected or not. again it feels like both are being said in the comment posted above. I know its a semi rumor but i would like to know which is it? or am i just reading it wrong?

    • The truth is nobody knows how long they’ll let you keep the unlimited data plan. My bet is the next time you go to upgrade in a couple years (if you signed a new contract this year), they’ll say you have to move to a tiered plan. Nothing is forever in business.

  • This would be great if it’s in fact true.  Now I just need to get my fiancee over on my plan before the 7th so we can both be locked in!

  • If I got a Droid on 09/09/09 (unlimited data) and renew my contract on 11/09/11 (2 months after my first contract expired) but while still been on VZW on a month to month basis, am I considered a new customer or an existing one?

  • Don’t worry, they’ll make you do a “voluntary upgrade” when you get the bionic (or any other new advanced phone in a few months), because your current plan is not Dual-Core-LTE-ICECREAMSAMMICH ready.

They’ve done this before, they’ll do it again.

You’re safe if you are willing to stick with a mid 2011 or earlier phone for the rest of your life, but once you decide for something greater “Oh youre on our old smartphone plan. This new phone doesn’t work with our old smartphone plan, but you can upgrade to our new smartphone plan today with structured pricing!”

    • I know this will happen. I worked at T-Mobile for a long while, and this was one of the things we had to learn. And learn fast.

20$ a month data was legacy, and typically only available to former SunCom customers. And T-Mobile told a LOT of those customers to bend over, just like Verizon is going to do to us.

    • You are incorrect. I just upgraded to the Bionic and was able to keep my unlimited data.

  • I think you will still need to be on an LTE device before July 7th to be grandfathered onto the unlimited data for future upgrades into other LTE phones.  I would imagine that if you are on a 3g plan with unlimited data currently, that if you go to upgrade to an LTE device later down the road they will most likely have to process a change to the new plans.  It will all depend on how 3g unlimited data and LTE unlimited data are coded in their system.

    • I tend to agree with you.  I would believe Verizon would look for any angle to get you to the new data plans!

    • while i dont doubt it i sincerely hope your wrong because honestly unless anyone shelled out over 500 dollars for an unsubsidized 4g phone, the 4g service and 4g phones have not been out anywhere near 2 years in fact just the beginning of this year so im pretty sure it would be impossible for anyone to have a 4g      phone and 4g unlimited service without having bought an unsubsidized phone.

    • Second picture from second source added…but thanks for the insightful comment.

      • Seriously. Someone should ban that guy. Also, send him a cookie for his most appreciate comment.

      • Kellex how about if you on an unlimited 3g plan.  An upgrade after July 7, to a 4G phone.  Does that put you to unlimited 4G or Tiered 4G?

        • I don’t think anyone knows the answer for sure, but currently 3G and 4G are just 2 different ways to receive data and your phone will do what it is capable of.

Just like today, if you went and got a Thunderbolt and activated it you will have to do nothing else and your phone will start using 4G.

I feel the only way they can take this option away from you is if they separate 3G and 4G pricing.

        • I have the same concern. Do I need to dump my droid X for a charge before July 7th?

        • I have the same concern. Do I need to dump my droid X for a charge before July 7th?

          • I am wondering this too.. is it worth it to shell out a few hundred bucks to buy a phone (with no upgrade) before the 7th to ensure that I’ll get unlimited 4G?

          • crazy as it sounds I am thinking about doing the same thing. That’s just a lot of money to put out, only to use the upgrade a month or 2 later when Bionic or SG 2 comes out.

          • I’m in the same boat as you guys. I am eligible now but was waiting for Bionic or SG2. Do I go get a charge or a T-Bolt now just in case?

        • Even the tiered pricing plans don’t differentiate between 3G and 4G, so I’m hopeful this will not matter in upgrading from 3G phone to 4G phone (I’m in the same situation). They probably do this because the 4G phones will still operate on 3G when necessary/no 4G signal available. Verizon’s never been known to save the consumer money, but there might be ethical/legal issues about charging people 4G prices when a 4G signal can’t be guaranteed 100% of the time. Maybe not, but it’s all I can think of in rationalizing why Verizon would do this….

          • cell phone companies haven’t been know for being ethical or legal.  in regards to charging for 4G prices when there is no 4G available, sprint has been doing it for awhile now.  $10 surcharge for 4G handsets regardless of if 4G is available in the area.

        • This document says that if you’re an existing customer, you would be provisioned under the old plan.. however, when I upgraded to the tbolt from droid x, they had to “add” 4G provisioning to my plan.. tricky tricky.

        • This document says that if you’re an existing customer, you would be provisioned under the old plan.. however, when I upgraded to the tbolt from droid x, they had to “add” 4G provisioning to my plan.. tricky tricky.

        • Probably won’t let you do that, that’s what someone said above… they are going to only let you keep your unlimited data plan with the 3G phones, once you jump to 4G they will tell you it’s not possible, and youll have to pay up to $50 more a month.  ABSURD.

  • Really, really good if it’s true. I’ll have to go to a Verizon store to make sure my plan is eligible since my data plan was added on midway through my contract.

    • If you take your phone onto its own plan you keep your contract dates with verizon, I’ve done this twice so no need to worry.

      • If you do a transfer of billing responsibility you change account numbers. You will NOT be eligible to keep unlimited data if it’s no longer available / being offered. So if you want to keep unlimited data you will have to stay in that account.

    • I’m sure Verizon will let you break off of the family plan but keep your unlimited data.  You are just giving them more money by not being on a family plan and if these new plans teach us anything, Verizon can and will do anything for more money.

      • I can verify this. Just did it today, as a matter of fact. I broke off from my parents’ line and Verizon let me keep my unlimited data. Needless to say, I’m quite ecstatic about that. 😀

    • Right?
I pay my own bills…but being that It’s a lot cheaper to be in a “family” plan…I simply send my mom $70 a month for the phone.

      • wow, you send your mom $70….I have been debating adding my MOM to mine, but an extra line would only be $10 a month, then $30 for the unlimited data…

        • While that is technically correct, he is also probably paying for a share of the minutes and maybe texts to get the total up to $70.

        • Family plans work by having a main line that is the most expensive, typically around $80-120, each additional line than only costs $10 plus $30 if you have a smartphone.  It’s only fair to split the total cost up evenly.

          • There switching to account based pricing soon but that doesn’t really mean anything still paying the same its just an account that has the min not the primary number. just got training a few weeks for the new account based pricing shit on ACSS.

    • I separated my line from my parents’ plan a couple of years ago. I got to keep promos, etc.

    • If it is true you would think it could be a good selling point for Verizon.  Advertise that in a few weeks the data plans will suck, but if you come running now you’ll be locked in.  And then in a few months throw a shit-load of new awesome phones at everyone to pay full price for.

      • They would rather have new customers pay their higher rates.  They can’t just change your plan unless you make changes to it.

  • Well if this is true I may not leave Verizon after all. But I somehow doubt this is true. I can see then maybe honoring our unlimited data for one renewal and that’s it.

        • They can’t just change your plan, they’re simply not allowed.  I’m still on an old alltel plan with Verizon which we’ve renewed three or so times over the years.  The only way carriers can change your plan is if you make changes to your plan and sign a new contract, then they can force you into their new rates.

  • That is what my friend was told at the Verizon store yesterday. He wasn’t told forever, but the guy said he would be grandfathered in at least for the next 2 years. (Of course this was a Verizon rep but my friend did say he looked like the kind of guy who knew what was going on).

But, the same guy also said he didn’t know what would happen if you got a 4G phone, but from the looks of everything I have read 3G and 4G are just 2 different ways of getting the same “data” so it should not matter.

*Disclaimer: What I have typed is what I have been told. I am trying to share as much information as possible but can not guarantee it is accurate.

    • Currently LTE and 3g are the same pricing is the same. So getting a LTE phone doesnt change anything. Now if they change LTE pricing that will be another story.

  • Since the pricing is the same for 3g/4g  does that mean even though I own a DX right now in July when my upgrade comes and I upgrade to a 4g LTE 3.2 gz quadcore 4gb of DDR3 beast ill be able to keep my unlimited data eventhough its a switch from 3g to 4g?

    • Verizon is not differentiating between 3G and 4G, everyone on unlimited 3G will also be able to get unlimited 4G for the same price when they buy a 4G phone just as it is now.  You will always be grandfathered on your current plan unless you want to make changes to the plan.

  • well i would hope they would grandfather in the existing vzw customers. we did sign a contract for that data plan. and if they eventually start making people sign up for tiered data plans when upgrading guess who’s buying unsubsidized? this guy! thanks for the news kellex i was worried i’d only have 2 gigs a month for my extra 30 bills. +1 droid-life!

  • This sounds fishy to me. Verizon needs to make an official announcement…NOW

  • That is the same info I got when I called a VZW customer service rep.  She said my unlimited data will always be honored on my existing line.  Works for me. 🙂

    • I don’t think I would trust them.  I don’t think they will honor the play if you kept the service for 30-40 more years.

    • I don’t think I would trust them.  I don’t think they will honor the play if you kept the service for 30-40 more years.

  • I’m confused. I have a year left on my contract, and I have unlimited – so a year from now I’ll still have it since I’m locked before 7/7? or do I need to take a new contract before 7/7 to keep my unlimited forever?

    • According to the article.. you’re locked onto unlimited forever, whether you’re upgrading or renewing your contract.

        • If you already have a data plan, then you’re not affected. If you’re on a janky flip phone and you buy a new phone after 7/7 that needs a data plan, you’ll be on the new tiered plan.

          •  Off topic, but the adjective janky is so awsomely underused that I salute you for using it. =D

      •  So what that means is only for “new” line activations would the tiered pricing be the only choice
moving forward after July 7th, which makes sense, but unless I hear it from the source and get it in writing (not a screen grab) I will be apprehensive to “believe” this news.

Just to share with you guys, I was on an old family share plan that no longer existed which
would allow you to use minutes for data if you had the older non smart phone.  Confirmed through 5 different CSR’s and finally a supervisor it was disclosed that keeping or upgrading phones would NOT affect a “PLAN” in any way UNLESS you changed your plan (upgrading the plan) then you’d never be able to go back to the old plan.

So based on how they do it: I will “hope” that they follow suit and continue based on their past actions
of plans whether voice or data, a plan is a plan unless otherwise specified.

    • You are locked in right now if you are on a contract.  According to these documents, you can upgrade in say, November, and still keep your current unlimited plan.

        • Yeah that’s what I’m wondering too? Does this mean that I will be able to upgrade to a 4G phone and still have my $29.99 a month unlimited plan? Or do I need to go run out and get me a 4G phone now to be locked into a 4G data plan????

          • Data is data right now. They’re not differentiating between 3G/4G, so my guess is yes.

          • Jon, Daniel, and Tony,

There is no segregation in the 3G/4G service in regards to pricing.  If it holds that you’re an existing customer and won’t have to pay the tiered pricing, then by all means you should have no fear of having to buy a phone now just to “lock in” your service.

      • If you’re on 3g now and upgrade to a 4g phone in 2 months will you still be able to keep the $30 unlimited plan or is only going to apply to a 3g phone?

    • The information above states that you will get to keep your $30 unlimited plan when you renew your contact.

      • *Subject to change without notice

        Don’t bank on rumor.
Until you hear it from the horse’s mouth money talks and B.S. walks…

    • If you’re under a family plan, you could sell the phone but keep the number. This way, you only be billed only $10 for this line. If you want to port the number to a new line 4g phone, you could terminate a contract which is a prorated ($120).

  • Looks like I’m not leaving Verizon after all.. still, as a smartphone enthusiast and a fan of Verizon’s superb service they should still introduce more fair data pricing structures.. maybe $20 for 2GB and $10 per GB over? Honestly I might even jump ship to that deal since I don’t even use more than 2GB of data per month since I’m constantly on WiFi and don’t stream much on 3G.

    • I wouldn’t do that, 5 years down the line 2gb might be nothing when your doing 1080p webcam chatting like it’s nothing. Or when all videos on the net are 1080p. Content will continue to get fatter and fatter.

      • Yeah but you can always upgrade/downgrade your plan to what’s available at the time.  So if Verizon comes out with a $10 150MB plan and you currently use a $30 2GB plan, you can downgrade to the 150MB plan.  Since they’re dropping unlimited, if you want to change your plan, you can’t change it to unlimited, that’s the situation.

    • +1 for the Galaxy S II (taking way to long for that). I got rid of my XOOM for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and am ready to get rid of my Droid X. Bye Bye Motorola….hello Samsung!!!

      • How’s that no sdcard slot, hdmi or usb port, lesser cameras and no notification light working out for ya.
