Samsung is increasing its commitment to Galaxy Watch buyers, starting with the new Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9. These watches, and we assume future Wear OS-powered models, will receive five years of OS updates and five years of security updates.
Past models have come with a 4 year commitment for OS updates and 5 years of security updates, which seemed acceptable for a wearable device. With that said, five years for both sounds like a nice round number. Given how much the Watch Ultra 2 is, with its starting price of $699, this is a good move for Samsung.
With this change, your new Watch Ultra 2 or Watch 9 should be supported well into 2031.
Both of these new watches are now up pre-order basically anywhere you can buy Samsung devices.
