Google just dropped the July 2018 security patch for Nexus and Pixel devices on us. At this time, we already have both factory image and OTA files, so choose whichever works best for you if you don’t feel like waiting for the update to show up on your device.
So far, we are seeing new 8.1.0 files for Pixel 2 (OPM2.171026.006.G1, OPM4.171019.021.Q1) and Pixel 2 XL (OPM2.171026.006.H1, OPM4.171019.021.R1), Pixel and Pixel XL (OPM4.171019.021.P1), Nexus 6P (OPM6.171019.030.E1), Nexus 5X (OPM6.171019.030.E1), and Pixel C (OPM4.171019.021.N1).
Google’s phones are getting the July 5 security patch level.
To check to see if the update is live, head into Settings>System>System Update.
For notes:
- Google shows Pixel 2 build OPM4.171019.021.Q1 as being for T-Mobile. The other build should be for all other Pixel 2 phones.
- Google Shows Pixel 2 XL build OPM4.171019.021.R1 as being for T-Mobile. The other build should be for all other Pixel 2 XL phones.

Mine isn’t working either 7-10-18
Ok, turned off WiFi. Got a little higher on step 2… Froze again!
On VZW, It keeps freezing on step 2??? WTH?
Finally pulling this update – A week later – Pixel 2 XL (Unlocked Version) on Verizon
Just got my July update… Pixel 2XL – Verizon.
Same here. Totally missed this thread (are they called threads here?).
2 hours and no notifications about dropped wi-fi. It’s been driving crazy since Feb.
Still no June or July for the Pixel C
5 days after release. Still no update on my Pixel 2 XL.
Same here.
Update button not working. Pixel 2 XL. 7/5/18
got mine on the Essential phone on 7/3. not too shabby
Damn you Google. Check for update is broken again.
It wasn’t broken. People just didn’t understand how it worked. Google used to do a phased roll out. It would go out to a small percentage first and continue as long as nothing was wrong. The check for updates would one check if it was available for your group yet. For a while it seems that Google stopped doing that and just gave it to everyone at once. I think they are going back to the phased roll out again.
I switched my carrier from Verizon to Fi, and it got the update.
Then you ended up falling into one of the first groups.
I’d love to get Fi. Unfortunately, Fi uses T-Mobile and Sprint towers which are terrible in the San Francisco bay area outside of the city of San Francisco.
Fi is my backup carrier for when I travel abroad. It’s very convenient to have phone/internet access as soon as you step off the plane in another country. I wouldn’t even consider paying Verizon’s absurd international rates. Check for update was working fine with my Verizon sim for the last year. Google stopped staggered update rollouts when they fixed the bug last year.
It wasn’t really a bug. It was by design. They did it for a reason.

Checked several times today. Still no update for my Pixel 2 XL.
Pixel OG on Verizon. Update button worked and it’s downloading
On Verizon, still nothing.
Thinking that’s my issue too, Verizon, still no update
First month where the update button isn’t working. Usually updates push at noon on release day.
Anyone have any luck updating?
Yep, when I read the article just after midnight, I hit my Update Button one time and it started the 57MB download. Pixel 2 XL on T-Mobile.
Still not working for me ????
Wow. Have upgraded to Google Play Services — 12.2.09 beta?
I never did the beta google play services. It was fixed in February and has always worked since then. Pixel 2 xl Verizon btw. And wtf is this tmobile version bull, there is no “tmobile” version.
Couldn’t begin to tell you man. I have no clue. Sucks that your Update Button didn’t work. This is “bucket of suck” territory…
Still nothing ????
Why is my Update Button not working as promised? Pixel 2 XL.
+1
Update button not working
Same here…July 7th, still NODDA.
And I really want this one for:
“Improve consistency of Wi-Fi connections with certain routers”
I’ve had issues with that with stock Android phones for years with my unifi ap’s. Works most of the time, but often, can’t pull shlt up on my phone, then I disconnect WiFi and BAM, works again. Infrequent, but frequent enough that it’s noticeable.
I’m hoping that after the update my phone will start detecting the 3.5mm adapter again but not expecting it.
I’m still waiting for a solution of coming out of dead zone (no cell tower in range) and not acquiring LTE. The only fix available is to turn the phone into airplane mode, and turning that off.
The Pixel C hasn’t gotten June’s update let alone July’s. There’s an active thread on the product forums

Finally got the OTA for June and July
For anyone who has updated it on the Pixel 2 XL, does it fix the slow screen wake when using the finger print reader?
I never experienced the the slow screen wake that some complained about. I just updated by using the check for update button. The screen wake using the finger print reader still works quickly. I’m on T-Mobile.
Nope, I still have the slow screen wake. Damn deal-breaker.
Really? Deal breaker? I certainly agree it’s annoying but a deal breaker?
Lol, paying $1300 for this phone brand new last year was enough for this to be a deal breaker yes.
Why would anyone pay $1300 for it? I got the 128GB XL2 and only paid $1K for it.
Damn really? I got it through Koodo. My mobile carrier.
I bought mine directly from Google after I pre-ordered it. $985 if I remember correctly. Was I happy about that price? No. I don’t believe a cell phone should be that expen$ve regardless of the maker.
Dafuq is Koodo? Sounds like they are ripping people off on phones.
Why would you pay $1K for a phone yourself? 😛
Well, I needed a new phone. My 2015 Moto XPE was beginning to fail. Lots of lag when scrolling. A factory reset would usually do the job when this would start to happen. The last time I tried, not so effective. Then the display on the bottom part of the screen started acting wonky with semi-transparent overlays with moving vertical banding. Hard to ignore when you’re trying to read or game. And don’t get me started about software updates…
So, I needed a phone and I couldn’t wait for the much rumored Nokia 9 to come out. I made the decision on the 2 XL because it had the specs and the closest thing to vanilla Android I could get. Was I happy about the pricing? Not at all. As I said, I needed a phone. Thankfully, there was 0% financing available to soften that kick to the groin.
I’ve been very happy with the phone! Still buttery smooth and slick. I’ll be holding on to it, though. The adoption of the notch on this year’s 3 XL concerns me. Hopefully, it is just a one time thing.
I have the 64GB one. I paid $850. Still, a slight delay is a minor annoyance to me.
$1,300 for it? What, were you one of those suckers that got one from eBay when Google couldn’t fullfill orders fast enough?
How about you get your facts right and read what I posted, no one likes toxicity trash like you.
You said you paid $1,300 for it. Pretty straight forward there bubs.
Sadly my phone carrier “Koodo Mobile” sells it for $1300 at “Retail Price” according to them. If it’s overpriced and hurts your lil ass go take it out on them.
Someone just pissed in your Cheerios today huh?
I’m not gonna treat you with respect when you rudely replied to me when I’ve done nothing to you. Get a life and get off the internet.
That’s okay I’ll just block you… Not interested in comments from a-holes.
Anyone aware of what’s different in the TMobile version?
What T-Mobile version?
