  • May very well grab this when the online requirement is dropped. I usually play time killers when I’m in a place with limited or no access. Looks like a graphically polished game, but unless there is a reason for always online other than “you may steal it”, I’d rather spend my money on games that don’t treat users like thieves.

  • I don’t understand the enjoyment of the “run” style games. For me it’s odd playing a side scrolling game without controlling the player’s side to side movements. I guess I’m just old school…

    • Everything on mobile is tap tap tap tap tap. The occasional swipe.

Trying to shoehorn a game that relies on two handed button pushing is never going to work out all that well.

  • Since sales went down hill Nintendo is like ” F*ck it let’s release it for Android now to make up for sales”

  • The game sucks. I wouldn’t be interested even if it were 99¢. I’ll stick to playing Mario games on consoles, where they belong.

  • If this exact same game existed WITHOUT being Mario/Nintendo, no one would be giving this game any hype. I get that the Mario factor is important to an extent, but I just don’t get all the hoopla

    • to me the mario factor is only a factor if it actually plays like Mario.

This is the same crud they pulled with Pokemon GO.

Is it officially licensed content? Sure.
Is it similar to the games we all know and love? Sure.

Does it satisfy the itch like those older games used to? Not really, though that may just be the harsh reality of nostalgia. We may never know, though, because we’ll never get a true port of those games…

  • While I understand the complaints about the price of the game (10$), I don’t understand the complaints of paying to unlock the full game. I do agree it would have been better to have a separate demo application (Like older iOS and Android games). Though the majority mobile users are casual players that have been conditioned to this Free-2-Play bs, as I would call it. When someone tells me a great game is too expensive at 3$ upfront (Downwell, for example), I simply raise an eyebrow.
Ultra cheap prices are sadly not viable in the video-game industry. Especially if it has to turn into a gambling addiction nightmare, like most F2P games.

  • First of all, people need to stop complaining that it is not like Super Mario Bros. Nintendo didn’t make this game to be a mobile version of that.

  • this game was one of the biggest let downs ever or maybe my expectations were too high. I would rather they had put the time and effort in to recreating proper port overs of the original Mario games…

  • SMR isn’t really like Temple Run at all, why do people keep saying it is? It’s 2d vs 3d, there are actual levels instead of running endlessly, there are collectables in each stage that require you to replay them to collect them all, there are enemies to deal with. Aside from the main character automatically running, I don’t see much similarity.

    • Probably because it is the closest relate able game/app to it that most would understand.
Remember they (Kellen & Tim) still have to appeal to the non-tech crowd. They are simple minded after all

    • Automatic running, automatic jumping over small hurdles AND enimies is a part of the problem for me…. On top of that after playing the first levels I don’t think it’s worth $10. I think that’s the sticking point for most people. A lot of high end 3D games don’t go past $6.99

      • Google is paying 97$ per hour! Work for few hours and have longer with friends & family! !mj144d:

      • That’s kinda where I am at. This looks like an amazing game for 4.99…maybe a dollar or 2 more but 9.99 is pretty steep. I haven’t bought any app for that price yet. And the fact that they snubbed android at launch still erks me. I am prob gonna wait til it’s cheaper or goes on sale though.

    • Exactly, I was just thinking “can it really be called an endless runner if there are different levels?”

    • I agree that it’s not like Temple Run. It’s much more like Rayman Jungle Run, altho it’s even more platformer-like than Rayman. Anyway, I’m a big fan of both of those games, and I went to an Apple store just to play Mario Run so I can tell you it’s an insta-buy for me. $10 is a great deal for a well-made game that will provide me hours of entertainment.

    • I thought it didnt have them?? thought it was 10 bucks outright with no plans on IAPs?

        • just making sure I wasnt getting excited just to be duped! haha

      • That’s to unlock the whole game…I don’t do that before I try a game out 1st. It’s not like the normal Mario games we’ve played in the past. Can’t go backwards, it’s all constant forward motion. I played it a couple times on my iPad mini, and that’s it.

        • I played the first 2 levels on my wifes iphone….after the third, it tells you to pay. But once you do, there are no IAP’s. I dont consider paying for an app as IAP. its not like nintendo put things to buy in the app to beat the game…or enhance it. its all open after paying that 10 bucks.

I do think it was misleading how they didnt just list it on the appstore on the iphone as 10 bucks from the get-go.

  • been hoarding these opinion funds for close to a year….cant wait to try this out.

  • Its a bit ridiculous that going into 2017 we still see iOS exclusivity on games and apps as if it still were 2009. I cant imagine if most major video games were released on PS4 for a couple months before being eventually being released to Xbox.

    • Tomb Raider released only for Xbox one for months. DLC for Call of Duty releases 30 days exclusive on ps4. This is done all the time.
