Google announced this morning that entering in impossible-to-read letter combinations on websites to verify that you are a human will soon be a thing of the past. Realizing that the CAPTCHA process had become obnoxiously difficult over the years as bots became smarter, Google decided to start over and make things easier. They are introducing a new API for websites to use that they are calling “No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA,” which is much simpler than its name is to type. Going forward, assuming the “No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA” decides you are a human, a simple check of a box is all you will need to do to pass through to your destination, submit a form, etc.
Google developed an Advanced Risk Analysis backend for reCAPTCHA last year that (somewhow) “considers a user’s entire engagement” with a CAPTCHA to determine if that person is a human. If it determines that they are indeed human, they can check a box and move forward. If they are not, they will have to enter a CAPTCHA. On mobile devices, the CAPTCHA presents pictures for verification, rather than forcing you to read and type out tiny little letters.
While they aren’t exactly upfront on the specific happenings surrounding that “backend” interaction, I’m not sure most will care if they can avoid FACKWORS for the rest of their lives.

I bet all the bots just collectively shouted, FACKWORS!
can’t wait for the day I won’t have to try and decipher Helen Keller’s handwritten captcha’s anymore
So essentially now my First, Last names, and email will be associated to me being on a website? No thanks. I prefer the answering a question method.
Say what you want, Kellen. You will never live down FACKWORS.
The FACKWORS are over?

Never Forget……FACKWORS
I’m confused. Is this safer than the standard CATCPHA? Can’t bots checks box more easily?
It’s not a standard checkbox, it’s a magic checkbox, so no. I’m sure it’s including some javascript to monitor your interaction with the form to see if you’re a bot. Maybe checking how fast it’s being filled out, whether hidden fields are being filled out that wouldn’t be by a normal person, who knows.
The one time I’ve run into it so far, it thought I was a robot because it gave me a CAPTCHA to solve after I checked the box.
I found it on Humble Bundle Store, it thought I was human so only the checkbox was necessary. I remember at the time thinking something like “What a stupid kind of verification” but now knowing what it was I am like whoa!
Really wouldn’t be hard to “fake a human”.
Just program it to tab between boxes and maintain 60wpm or so.
The CAPTCHA analyses the user interaction with the page (mouse movement, time spent, etc) and then decides if it shows just a checkbox (in case there’s a high chance the user is a person) or something more complicated, such as image comparisons (in case there’s a high chance the user is a bot [and this also help improve Google Images]).
Can we still purchase FACKWORS shirts? I need to commemorate that day.

Basically the DL community just clowning on me, which is always fun. 🙂
A brief discussion over here (http://forum.ragezone.com/f144/googles-captcha-recaptcha-1023607/) helps explain a bit about what might be going on in the backend (especially the last post that includes some code to implement it).

“FACKWORS” will live on in infamy on this site as a badge of honor to be used (seldomly and appropriately) by anyone who has been around long enough to be able to tell the story of its origin 🙂
As long as this community lives FACKWORS will never die…
