Verizon is getting into the VPN game this week with the introduction of Safe WiFi, its own VPN service that aims to protect your WiFi usage when on public networks.

What does it do? It has two main features: WiFi security and ad tracker blocking. When connected to a public WiFi network (like at a coffee shop or the airport), Smart WiFi encrypts your session (with “bank-grade encryption”) and blocks or hides your IP in order to cover your tracks and not give up your private information. For ad tracker blocking, Safe WiFi simply tries to block the trackers that ads leave around on your devices, giving you more privacy as you browse the web.

To get Smart WiFi, you’ll need to add it to your account. Once done, you’ll install the Smart WiFi app, which then lets you toggle on a VPN or the ad tracker. It will also show you how many trackers that have been blocked, data that’s incoming and outgoing, and other activity.

Safe WiFi costs $3.99/mo and covers up to 10 devices on your account. To sign-up, you have to be the account owner or account manager.
