HDR playback support has arrived for SHIELD TV and Sony TV models with Android TV, thanks to a flipped switch inside of Google Play Movies and TV. When playing back a title that features HDR, you should notice much better picture quality.
Naturally, to experience HDR, you’ll need a TV or display that supports it, plus you will need a movie that has it. Typically, any UHD title you purchase from Google Play will have HDR. If you want to ensure the movie you’re about to buy offers HDR, scroll down to the additional information section and check for the “HDR Available” mention.
