T-Mobile is issuing updates to two of its older Samsung phones this morning, those being the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. The update adds T-Mobile’s Advanced Messaging and Mobile Video Calling, two features first announced by the wireless carrier back in July.
With Advanced Messaging, you get a more robust, chat-like experience, where you can send bigger photos (up to 10MB), see when a person is responding to you, participate in better group chats, and more. It’s basically the new version of text messaging that most of the carriers will adopt.
Video Calling is well, video calling. You get the idea there, right?
The updates are rolling out today as N910TUVU2DOK2 (677MB) or N910T3UVU1DOK2 (223MB) for the Note 4 and N915TUVU2COK2 (150MB) for the Note Edge.
To check for each, head into Settings>About device>Software update.

I have the note 5 and my husband has the note 4. I was so excited for him to get the update yesterday for the video calling and the new advanced messaging. Well, the video calling is working great, but the messaging is the same and we done get read receipts or the “bubbles” when they’re responding. I’ve checked all settings and everything is good. Is anyone else having this issue?? TIA
The new texting is pretty much like messaging in Skype then?
I wish T-mobile would spend less time with the custom crap that only works with t-mobile users and more time on keeping their phones somewhat up to day. I’m still on 5.0.X with my t-mobile note 4. The 2nd rev of the note 4 is getting the updates, seems like the first rev has been abandoned.
This is something we can’t use on Nexus devices yet, right?
Will this feature ever come to the LG V10? Or is this for Samsung devices only?
Right what’s the point of introducing the feature if only Samsung devices have it.
It’s also 5.1.1 how could y’all miss that in the update?
Agreed. That’s the BIGGEST part of the update. Note 4 on 5.0.1 is a MESS!
Hopefully now Verizon can get it together and update the Note 4, which so many said it was skipping 5.1.1 and going straight to Marshmallow along with the Tmobile variant, which now also has 5.1.1.
I wonder if it’ll be a 5.1.1 update as well. We know it’s not gonna get Marshmallow any time soon.
it is
If it is, that’s a MUCH bigger deal than advanced messaging and video calling. The Note 4 on 5.0.1 is a disaster. Figures this comes out today. I just jumped the wife phone and mine to Note 5’s yesterday. Waiting on them to arrive. If this fixes the Note 4, I may just send the 5’s back.
I’m waiting on Mega to build a rom based on it, but i’m excited too because i thought Note 4 was dead essentially (after 5.0.1) it sucked
It is 5.1.1 simply Droid Life didn’t specify it but many other tech sites did. Also Note Edge on T-Mobile seems to be getting it.
Any time soon? The word is we are getting it late February 2016.
T Mobile the nation’s number one wireless carrier for me
