According to sources of Reuters, who had eyes on with the paperwork, Samsung is currently in negotiations to purchase BlackBerry outright. The meetings between executives to discuss a transaction began last week, but as of right now, there is no word from either company regarding the process. As it stands, in late 2013, BlackBerry’s patents based on encryption and other miscellaneous IT were valued at roughly $2.25 billion.

With Samsung and the continued push of KNOX, its enterprise-level security platform, a hit of up to $7.5 billion for encryption patents could prove valuable in the longterm.
