Sonos keeps telling us that Google Assistant integration will come to their Sonos One speaker, and possibly their new Beam soundbar too. The last we heard, we were going to get Assistant access before the end of 2018, likely in time or the holidays. Today, the company has said that 2018 is no longer happening.

According to blog from the company that was posted today, Sonos says that they “need a bit more time to get the experience right” with Google Assistant and their speakers. We don’t actually have a new time frame for when Assistant might arrive either, with Sonos only suggesting they’ll “look to lock down a date in 2019.” The only sort-of guarantee we have now is an update on the situation that will be provided in early 2019. Ugh.

With that said, if you are interested in helping Sonos develop Google Assistant for their speakers, you can do so by signing-up for their beta program here. In order to qualify, Sonos wants you to be able to listen to music for at least 14 hours per week, use 10 voice commands in a day, and respond to surveys they provide within 72 hours.

Welp, scratch that off the holiday fun.
