been using the pixel and battery issues aside I love it. best phone i’ve ever owned. I held the s8 today in best buy and I don’t know if I can hold back from switching to this. If I wasn’t so worried about the battery I would have ordered it already. Don’t think i can wait 6+ months for the pixel 2.

  • Shamoy Rahman

Looking at the Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium this year.

  • Love-America

Will wait for Note 8 or pixel 2…S8 is similar to S7

  • Gmax Mo bay

I bought the S8 for my wife, I’m holding out for the Pixel 2…

  • disastrousrainbow

Tried the phone out today at Verizon. It’s absolutely gorgina no doubt. Very comfy and not much bigger than the S7. It’s almost a wash. Honever, I was surprised at how quickly the initial impact of the small bezels went away, and once I started using it it was just fine. Let’s just say no S7 Edge owner is going to be quaking in their boots if someone pulls this phone out next to theirs.

I can also confirm there’s no stereo speaker setup. We’ve got the usual bottom single speaker, although it did seem louder than previous Sammy speakers. It’s definitely not as “full” or rich as the Pixel or even Droid Z and far cry from the iPhone 7’s.

Aside from that, I mean, I guess I’m a little underwhelmed. I dunno, I guess I was expecting more than just a pretty face, and the way it warmed up during my multitasking and the accidental touches that yes, do happen with one handed use, gave me flashbacks to the performance downsides of the S7.

  • If the real world battery life is solid, yes. If not, I’ll probably the G6

  • RazorSky

Once you go Pixel (Nexus) I don’t think there is any going back.

    • RiChDAiLLeST1

Ehh I think it was over hyped. I hate to say it but I actually miss a lot of the features from the Note 7 when I got the Pixel XL. Just my opinion.

      • RazorSky

The Note has the Pen. I went from an S6 to Pixel and I guess I miss nothing but the smaller size.

My biggest pixel gripe is charging and headphones being on opposite sides and i guess speakers suck.

  • paul_cus

Finally decided on sticking with my Sony Xperia X Compact. Decided that this recent batch of new phones are just too tall.

  • MJ

Well, this is the first Samsung phone I would actually consider IF they get more serious about updates specifically with their unlocked phones BUT… I don’t NEED to upgrade this year and won’t make any decision until see what OnePlus and Google comes out with first. I really liked the LG G6 and it will be discounted significantly by fall but updates with their unlocked phones are also a concern.

  • LondonLeedsFan

I loved my s3/s5 and s6 was marred with problems so I moved to 6P. After having a Nexus i don’t think I’ll have another Samsung, unless Google drop the ball and really mess up on the Pixel 2. I’d even consider an original Pixel later in the year for Β£ reasons, but I think they’ll go out of circulation.

    • Big EZ

The 6P is the reason I won’t buy another Nexus anytime soon. It’s terrible.

      • LondonLeedsFan

I have very minor issues now and then, but i I like having the OS and security patch updates when they’re released, not when Samsung CBA getting round to it.

You won’t need to buy a Nexus anyway, there won’t be another πŸ˜‰

        • Big EZ

That isn’t a concern for me since I had to roll back Google’s update because it was worse than the garbage that is on here now. I’d rather have a decent experience with slower updates than a horrible experience with updates. I never once updated my G3 for 18 months, it was near perfect from the factory (software wise).

  • Lucky Armpit

Preordered an S8 this morning. Was going to wait for the unlocked version but couldn’t wait until MAY 9th. I mean, almost two months later? Really?

  • Mark Whelan

Wait and see is where I’m at… Want to see how the phone stacks up after all the hype dies down…

  • stanley

I’ve never bought a Samsung reason being is that it seems the same every year about their phones, when they first come out they’re so badass but after about 6 months I read that they’re now laggy pieces of crap.

    • Androidatic

Not in my experience. Except for the Pixel phones Samsung is the way to go.

    • Me

Happened to my S6, which is why I’m good on Sammy devices for awhile.

  • Docilo

Surely first I’ll buy an fire extinguisher. Take a look for more interesting news updates on S8… http://mobilenewsflash.com/#search/galaxy%20s8

  • Alan Paone

not a chance. Way too large (and way too touchwiz)

    • Me

The UX seems to be pretty much slim down. Still not a fan of the fruit loops settings icons.

  • Daishi

Nope. Still happy with My Moto X Pure Editioin.

  • coltenbuckelew

Every time this year it’s the same conclusion. Samsung comes out with an amazing phone with great hardware. But has software no one trusts to be updated as fast as Google pushes it out. Most people, in the android community, will not want a phone that doesn’t receive the latest updates in a timely manner. At the end of the day the same people that continue to see software as the main protagonist of a phone will skip on Samsung and go with a Pixel. Those who favor specs over timely updates will do the opposite and go for a S8/S8+.

  • NexusMan

Wait…the back button is in the right place?

    • CapnShiner

No, Kellen changed it. Watch his hands-on video.

      • NexusMan

        Oh, ok. Damn.

  • dblock

Should have an option for “Not sure yet.” Waiting to see if OPO actually has an edge display phone of their own on the way or not. Latest rumors say they do, let’s hope they’re true. (All that rhyming was not intentional, sadly.)

  • donkeygoat

Personally not a fan of Samsung.

But its a gorgeous device. I hope it brings more people to the android fold. And it would be interesting what influence it will the competitors.

I’m currently rocking the Moto Z Play. I feel that if i am going to upgrade to another phone, I won’t want to step down in battery life. An improved camera would be nice but its not a vital thing for me.

  • sgtguthrie

I’m either staying the course with the next Pixel, or trying a One Plus.

  • Steve Yobs

Moto Z Play new for $379! I can live with a mediocre camera. This thing flys and battery is amazying

  • disastrousrainbow

No, because Samsung apparently didn’t add dual speakers and a split level of hands-on mention software quirks.

If I do go Android again, I’ll probably get the G6 or Pixel XL tbh.

  • Chad

    Pixel XL 2… Yep!

    • Jeff “BIG RED”

Hope that the pixel XL 2 is successful. But this year I won’t touch one. First time in years I want nothing to do with a Nexus/Pixel Device.

  • AaronS

I can’t stand the curved glass edges. I’ll never buy a phone that has it. I like to use a case and a glass screen protector. They’ve both saved my phones from what normally would be shattering drops. Unfortunately, the curved edges make at lease the screen protector a no go (if you want to cover the whole screen anyway) and the case is less protective. It seems Samsung is all in now as the “Edge” option is now the only option. The G6 is probably the option for me.

    • Jeff “BIG RED”

Have seen tempered glass on the GS6 edge and note 7. Why they wouldn’t come out with some good options for the GS8 or GS8+ wouldn’t happen. Your missing out buddy. I was once in your very shoes with my opinion on curved screens.

  • No, because it’s not that much better than my S7 and it’s bigger (same deal with the G6). I don’t want to go bigger than the current S7, so I’m gonna wait to see what the Pixels cook up in a few months.

  • VAVAMk_2

Likely going from my 6P to a Pixel 2 in the fall.

  • jseah114

Nope. I just got the S7 Edge this time last year. I don’t think the changes justify the cost. My wife has the Note 5, so she’ll probably get the Note 8.

  • Rod

As good as that hardware is, I don’t fall for Samsung’s marketing.

  • NexusMan

If the S7 Edge was good enough for me to have kept it at least a full year, the S8 could have definitely been a possibility, but it wasn’t, so I was left looking for something else and the Pixel came along and I’m still very happy with it, so the S8 isn’t even a consideration.

  • Me

Waiting on the Nokia 7 or 8

  • Natty Bee

I’m going for the 8+…Gotta get something to hold me over until the Note 8 drops. I’m just not satisfied with the S7 Edge

    • Rod

      Why?

    • Jeff “BIG RED”

In the same boat. Except I went with the pixel XL. Makes me mad I got rid of my gs7 edge.

  • kobayash

Nope – way too expensive. I understand that the price is relatively the same, and that it’s comparable to its direct competitors. What has changed for me is that mid-tier phones have caught up enough that I really can’t justify paying 2-3x the price for incremental improvements. My 6P is still serving me well, and when it’s time to move on, it will be the last “flagship” phone I will have owned.

  • Sean Lally

    Given up on Samsung…

  • Gekko

Beautiful phones but i don’t like skins, bloat, assistants, pay, and misc proprietary crap etc.

    • B!

So do you have a Razr or a rotary joint?

      • Gekko

        come on. Nexus 6P.

        • B!

Lol. I was asking cause you said assistants. Skins, bloat & pay I agree with you 100%. I use Nova launcher, even when I had my DROID RAZR Maxx. I use Google Now (is that an assistant?) but don’t do themes, skins or pay.

          • Gekko

with regard to assistant and pay – i’m talking about proprietary crap – like Samsung Pay and Bixby etc.

          • Androidatic

            Just don’t use them.

          • Gekko

            skins and bloat.

          • Androidatic

Ok? Lol. Some people bitch just to have something to complain about.

          • Gekko

no. skins and bloat is a legitimate dealbreaker. like i said – beautiful hardware – but the add-ons are not my cup of tea.

    • Samsung pay is far superior though. Plus, you can install Android pay instead if you want.

      • Shamoy Rahman

After months of using Samsung pay, heck, I’d just rather use tap to pay on my credit card. Its a dumb gimmick.

  • Cakefish

I think they look like very decent phones but I am waiting for the Pixel 2. I used to have Nexus phones for many years and I’ve been suffering from Google withdrawal symptoms since owning my Galaxy S7 (despite liking the phone very much). The Pixel is just better optimised in terms of fluidity and smoothness of the UI and gets updates much, much more quickly. I want Android O in 2017 and Pixel 2 is the only way to guarantee that. And if Google dissapoints I’ll have the iPhone 7S as a backup option.

  • datkidpatrick

well i should have no problem preordering 😊

  • Preach2k

I am going to wait for the Note 8. I was not that impressed!

  • Jeff C

My Pixel XL is working flawlessly, will likely skip the second version this fall and hopefully there will be a 3rd gen in 2018.

Wife is waiting for the Note 8.

    • JMonkeYJ

It’s true. The Pixel is just too good. It’s the first phone to convince me the annual upgrade cycle is slowing down.

  • S8 on VZW, I have “Galaxy Every Year” or whatever they called it…So I can upgrade this year and at $30/month my bill only increases $2/month…What do I have 2 lose?

  • Shadowstare

Nope I waiting to see what HTC does with the M11 (I’m not calling it the U) and the Pixel 2.

    *runs and hides*

  • Marchellino Marsh

waiting for the next generation droid instead

  • DanSan

does anyone know when these might appear in stores to try out? coming from a Nexus 6 i really want the S8+ but i definitely want to get the feel in hand experience.

    • JSo

I think they said next month. The 22nd if I remember right.

      • DanSan

won’t the phone be sold officially by then? I’d like to try it before the pre-order window expires. get that stupid headset and then sell it.

        • JSo

I’ve never heard of a phone being on display in a store before it’s able to be purchased. Do they do that?

          • DanSan

i could have swore i saw the GS7 in store before it officially went on sale. either that or the GS6

          • Cakefish

Yes, it’s happened before in the UK. The Galaxy S7, Pixel and iPhone 7 were on display while the phones were still only available to be preordered, for example.

    • ctk4949

I think some Worst Buys will have em today or tomorrow. Call ahead and find out. πŸ™‚

    • Jeff “BIG RED”

Sometimes 2 to 3 weeks in advance. Usually a week is common. Based off what I’ve seen personally.

  • Trooper311

Nope. Happy with my Pixel XL.

  • Jay Ward

Waiting for this device to have dual front facing speakers.

  • treid008

    Waiting for that Note 8!

  • Mudokon83

    5.1 inch phone. (S7)

Its the perfect size, anything bigger and you lost me. (and I had a LG G3 previously)

    • Cakefish

S8 is narrower than S7. But it is a bit taller.

  • imHOWIE

I want to get on Project Fi, so I’m waiting for the Pixel 2.

  • aculbreth

Not really a fan of the tall slender profile of the phone. Have enough trouble as it is pulling down the notification bar of my 6P lol

    • eric

swipe down with the finger print scanner πŸ˜‰

what are you some kind of animal? actually dragging your finger across the top of the phone….who does that? /s

    • bassman418

Nova Launcher pull down gesture. Pull down from anywhere with one finger get the notification shade down.

    • VAVAMk_2

      Gestures with Nova Launcher

    • NexusPhan

The regular s8 is significantly shorter than the Nexus 6p and the s8+ is about the same height.

    • aculbreth

Sounds like I need to try out Nova Launcher since so many people are recommending it

      • gabe1989

highly recommend. I have it set to swipe down from anywhere with one finger and get the notification shade down. also, have the quick settings toggles come down when I tap the home button (only when I’m on the home screen for obvious reasons)

  • MrIg0Hard

This feels like more of an “S” upgrade and to be honest, I’m not a fan of the extra tall screens… I said that when I saw LG’s and it still holds true. Hope this is not the trend of 2017…

  • T Roq

I am not buying a flagship phone in 2017 with a 4G Ram. Waiting for the Note 8

  • Suicide_Note

S8+ in Black for the wife.

I’m hanging onto my Pixel XL until the XL 2 is released in Fall.

    • Trooper311

      You on VZW by chance?

      • Suicide_Note

Nope. Currently on TMo, but likely switching to Verizon in a few months.

        • Paul Hansen

If VZW had jump on demand I’d think about it but the networks in Chicago are about equal so it’s more cost/line features at this point.

          • Suicide_Note

True, but once you leave Chicago it’s no contest. Verizon wins, hands down. Example: My wife recently went on a business trip downstate. Once she got down around I-80 her signal was completely gone for several stretches, rendering get phone pretty much useless. Her colleagues on Verizon/AT&T had coverage everywhere.

  • JSo

This is actually the first Samsung device I would consider. I just hate the thought of being stuck with TouchWiz and not being able to install anything else if I wanted.

    • Suicide_Note

Same here. You can always install Nova and that takes care of a lot of the TW problems.

      • JSo

Are there themes that can change the notification shade color as well? That white is ugly in my opinion.

        • Derek Ant

Yes, Samsung has a very powerful theme engine that changes icons, stock Samsung app backgrounds and colors, settings, dialer, notification shade, etc. I would also look into Good Lock which makes more of the elements have a “stock” feel

          • JSo

Probably still going to wait for the next Pixel but good to know that can be changed.

        • Suicide_Note

I agree the color scheme doesn’t look good, but unfortunately i don’t know about theming it.

      • Big EZ

The problems have never been able to be fixed by a launcher. A launcher just hides the OEM launcher, it doesn’t fix the jank underneath. Hopefully these (and for me the Note 8) get root fairly quickly. I think they’ve come a long way, but I won’t buy until they have root.

        • Trooper311

Yup. Putting Nova on it will not fix the jank.

    • DanSan

I’m with you, trying to retire my Nexus 6.

The pixel was a let down to me (not like i can even buy one still…) so i figured i’d give sammy another look. I’ll install nova, reload my save file and be done.

  • Alfuβ„’

    Nope too pricy!!

  • trixnkix637

There should definitely be a category for want it but nope.

  • Orion

Waiting for the Note 8. Most of the nopes are just waiting for the fall lineup basically.

    • Brandon Sobotta

      Not me.

    • Suicide_Note

Exactly. It’s either the Pixel XL 2 or Note 8 for me. The only way I’m not getting the XL 2 is if Google completely loses the plot, but i don’t see that happening.

      • michael arazan

Google asking consumers for ideas, for the first time ever, will hopefully point them in right direction. Should ask Nexus Users though.

        • Owner of Bing!, is informing visitors to start off “Work at home” practice, that Marketers have been doing more than one year now. This year only, I generated as much as $36k so far with nothing but my personal pc and some free time, even though i have a fulltime nine to five job. Even most people not used to this, can earn $50/per h successfully and the earnings can go even very high over a period of time… This is how i started >> http://adultadda.net/2Y5

        • Chairman of MSN!, is giving advice folks to start “Work at home” method, that Loads of marketers have been doing for more than 12 months now. • MJ

Are Nexus users banned from giving feedback or something? LOL

          • karpodiem

            Probably.

    • Big EZ

Yep. Hopefully we get the fingerprint reader under the display, more RAM, more battery, and a few other upgrades.

    • Mike

Nope, sticking with the V20 until next year. No phone this year seems at all worthy of the upgrade. A CPU jump isn’t enough for me anymore to spend $750+ every year.

      • schlanz

The fact that you can get it half price with a trade in of a 2 year old device is pretty good however

      • Paul Hansen

My V20 has been plagued with issues so I’m glad to see that steaming pile go. Never gets updates, WiFi and Bluetooth connections constantly cut in and out. Back plate falls off in my pocket. Signal strength is meh. I finally turned it off a few days ago and pulled my Nexus 6 with a chipped screen out of a drawer to use til my s8+ gets here. I forgot how great these speakers are. Makes me miss the Motorola of old…

        • Mike

Sounds like you have a bad device.

I have none of the issues you have and have had the device caseless since it was released.

I hope you enjoy your S8 though.

    • wickets

i for one would by the +now, but im not waiting until may to do so, ergo falling back into the waiting category πŸ™‚

    • Snowbo13

agreed… note 8 or pixel 2 for me

    • john lens

Bring on Note 8! I like one feature where you see written scribble on the Always On Display screen!

  • Carlos Reyes

I have the V20 and pretty happy with it. But if T-Mobile has a good pre-order deal I might jump to the S8+.

    • Suicide_Note

It’s $130 down for the S8+, and $30/month after that. Total cost is $850.

  • GregDubya

S8+ in Orchid Gray. That color reminds me of the first Sony Playstation with the purpleish gray. Fond memories. I’ve had the last 2 Gear VR headsets and they are both very cool, but I haven’t logged more than an hour or 2 in them over the years. I like they’re including the headset and the controller. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t pay for it this go round, as little as I’ve used mine.

  • Eric

S8+, but my eye is on that Essential phone https://twitter.com/ericschmidt/status/847125894753792000

    • I agree. Really pumped to see what the Essential phone is all about. But what are the chances it works on Verizon? Probably slim to none.

  • Ryan N

I think this is the first year that “No” has topped the list…

People are learning that there are other OEMs out there…

    • Michael Bassett

Trolls acting like their too cool for the room. They’re buying the S8/S8+

    • Big EZ

There are no other OEM’s anymore IMO. LG has the best experience, but I can’t trust them anymore after three dead G series. HTC is, well, HTC. Nexus (any manufacturer) pure garbage (typing this from my Nexus). Sony, never been a decent option in the US. Moto, haven’t been interesting since they were bought by Lenovo.

      • Androidatic

After the G4 I’ll NEVER buy another LG phone. I don’t trust them anymore. At least Samsung stepped up and recalled the phone.

        • Big EZ

It’s sad really. The G3 was an amazing phone. It has given me the best Android experience of any phone. The G4 was almost as good (slightly smoother, but G3 had the better overall experience) until it died on me, twice. It’ll be several years before I give them another shot.

        • BLNKN

I have the same thing with Oneplus πŸ™‚

  • KleenDroid

    Amazing
