AT&T Announces Exclusive Galaxy S5 Active, Available Now

galaxy s5 active official

AT&T just announced the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. The device is available now online and in AT&T stores for $199 on contract or starting as low as $27.50 per month with an AT&T Next plan.

The device should live up to its “active” name, thanks to a shock, water, and dust resistant casing. It also has a “convenience” key on the side that can launch apps related to outdoor activities. Like its shinier brother, it tracks heart rates as well, with a built in monitor underneath the camera.

If you care about specs, then know that this is identical to the regular Galaxy S5 with its 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, and 16MP camera.

The Galaxy S5 comes in camo green, ruby red, or titanium gray.

It’s actually a bit impressive they apparently managed to not gimp down the specs vs the normal S5 like they did last year vs the S4. (Unless I’m missing something.) If not for Samsung’s still always terrible, obsolete buttons, if I were on ATT I’d consider this. Certainly vs the normal S5.

Of course there are so many other great off contract/import options available to you lucky people who aren’t tied to Verizon..

is this permanently exclusive like last years active? if so, that’s dumb.

can you pop a tmo SIM in this thing? sorry, long time VZW guy and not sure how that works…

phones like these are good for those that are used to a flip phone for being rugged, not for me , but some will buy it, believe it or not I have a friend that is still using a flip phone lol

WTH? at&T’s website states the camo one is out of stock in all new york stores where is it actually available?

  • flosserelli

Rednecks go apeshit for camo anything. Just sayin’

  • Sky

The camo style actually looks really cool ..these phones serve their purpose well and i for one love them, but too expensive and i’m waiting for next Moto X.

  • Teaser38

$715… At least it’s MIL-STD 810G. From the foot notes on the AT&T site, I like how it’s water resistant only after you cover up all the holes. I wonder how far off from being MIL-STD a Moto G with a grip shell is.

    • TylerCameron

The Moto G is totally waterproof.

  • Kenny Woodard

Shockingly, I’m impressed by this phone. Price point isn’t where I’d like it, but people that want an “otterboxed” phone without a case + performance should enjoy this device.

    • joe23521

“Shockingly…” I see what you did there.

  • sc0rch3d

Scrolled past this on Twitter and checked twice before realizing it was a product release and not another rumor.

Call me crazy, but I actually like this phone. I know the regular GS5 already has water and dust, but shock resistance is pretty awesome (I shattered my very brittle G2 a couple months back) and I kind of like the “rugged” design. Well I can’t say like exactly. But it’s better than the band-aid design. If this wasn’t ATT only I’d strongly consider it

    • joe23521

I’m not calling you crazy. To me, this looks better and more premium than the regular version, whose cheaplookingness I simply could not overcome.

May have to actually pay a visit to the store. My patience for the G3′s lack of release info is quickly running out…

      • M3D1T8R

G3 will be released later this summer, like LG said it would. If you’re impatient even over their lack of more specific release info, you’ll surely be too impatient to wait for the actual release in probably a couple months.

        • joe23521

The lack of info is more frustrating to me than a late, but definite release date. At least that would allow me to make a fact-based decision. “Later this summer” is way too vague and could span three months.

My current phone is already on its last legs. Had full intention to go to M8 or S5, but both had deal-breaking features for me. Then waited until G3 launch only to be told to wait indefinitely longer. I’m just frustrated.

  • Suicide_Note

Great sales strategy, AT&T. Announce the phone’s availability when most of the country is asleep. It’s almost as if they don’t want to sell any of these.

    • wolfedude88

Well how many people actually know when a phone is available for sale in the first place? If your visiting this site then you would know regardless.

      • Indianajonze

theres a legion of apple fanboys who line up days/weeks ahead of iphone launches laughing at your comment right now

        • Joe

People still do that? At least here, the lines for the iPhone 5s started maybe that morning and wasn’t very long compared to the first few iPhones.

        • wolfedude88

Apple folks are a different kind of people, lol.

At the same time none of those folks would be on this site.

          Well besides Ron, ;-)

  • Bryan Mills

Hopefully AT&T and Samsung didn’t lie this time.

    • Joe Bertolino

      lie about?
