Deal: Original Galaxy Gear Available on eBay for $99 Plus Free Shipping

Because of the moderate success of the original Samsung Galaxy Gear, followed by the quick introduction of 2nd-gen Gear 2 devices, Samsung and its retail partners are doing whatever they can to offload old Gear stock. The deals on the Galaxy Gear have come quick and often, like today’s flash sale from Best Buy through eBay.

The official Best Buy account through eBay has “manufacturer refurbished” Galaxy Gear smartwatches in three colors (grey, black, and rose gold) on sale today for $99. Keep in mind that this product originally retailed for $299, so we are now at third-of-the-price status. That’s how badly they want to move these out of their warehouses. $99 for a smartwatch that has a decent design, but not much in terms of functionality. But hey, if you wanted to test out a smartwatch, and own a Galaxy device from Samsung, $99 is tempting.

Hey instead check out the “Exetech XS-4”, they really nailed the smartwatch idea,
Does loads more than just popping Android Wear notifications on your wrist!
They actually included loads of useful tech needed to make a viable smartwatch,
Two words, battery length and waterproofing! Grab one from the link below….

Always On Screen Clock, thanks to OLED!
    Octa-Core (think future proofing)
Solar self charging Photovoltaic layer (Haven’t seen this on anything else!)

Waterproof IP 67 (Yup you’ll be swim and listen to music in the shower with that)
Hydrophobic water repellent nano coating (water literally slides off)

    AMOLED, nice powersaving 🙂
Huge 800 mah battery, double what other smartwatches have.

Standalone device, doesn’t need to be stuck to your phone to work
2nd generation device from an already established manufacturer…

This just isn’t gimmicky enough for me. I’m waiting on the buttplug that gets cold in the morning to wake me up.

    sold out

  • morpheus282

It seems to be more popular in a specific color:
Black: 238 sold in 1 hour
Gray: 112 sold in 24 hours
Rose: 29 sold in 1 hour

I’m very tempted, but I haven’t worn a watch since Jr. High (and that was too long ago to mention) so I think it would be a $99 experiment that would find its way to the junk drawer in a month at most.

  • Christopher Moore

Be a waste of money for me at this stage. That G3 is looking like a beast.

  • Shawn John

That’s the price it should have debuted at $99, just about what its worth.

    • LionStone

Yep, and at this point it should be $50. or free with a new phone purchase. Charging $99. for a refurbished, 1st generation device is highway robbery!

Only for Americans, if you are not American citizen. Use MyUS Personal Shopper, you get your favorite gadget from any American Shop right to your door to both Europe and Asia!

  • Droid Ronin

The only reason why I would get this is to try to flash a ported version of Android Wear to test out.

  • Lee Winkler

Anyone know if this can be rooted so some day very soon there is a rom to load Android Wear? That would be the trigger for me.

  • 213ninja

if you have a compatible phone, this statement is completely false: “but not much in terms of functionality”

  • Burtimus Prime

For those who live near a US Cellular location, they have brand new ones for $99.99.

  • flosserelli

This product lost 66% of its initial value(?) in 7 months. Even for tech/gadget stuff, that is appalling.

  • PoisonApple31

I enjoy the whining on this site about these devices being Samsung-only when most wouldn’t even buy it if it was compatible with other OEMs.

  • Patrick Crumpler

Garbage. Lol. Only works with other samsung devices. Waste of $99

    • yankeesusa

      Good for you

  • The Narrator

So what you’re saying is, I can go stalker ski-ing on a budget..

  • Carlos Lopez

I feel like its worth the price now but idk if i want it

  • crazed_z06

Not sure why DL keeps hating and saying this device doesnt have much functionality. It has more functionality than the Pebble, Toq, or Sony Smartwatch 2.. and at 100 bucks, it’s much cheaper than those other 3.

    You guys keep hating tho.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Oh you forgot needing a samsung device. . . . Or is that not a plus?

      • Haroon Dar

U can use any Android device once u root it

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

LOL Oh God. It’s not worth that effort.

          • yankeesusa

Your right, for some it’s not worth the effort. But also for some it’s not worth the effort to root a phone either but many do it anyway. It’s all a matter of what you want. At $99 it’s starting to look tempting.

    • The Narrator

It’s limited to Samsung……(still sucks either way)

      • yankeesusa

Yes it’s limited. But with a little ingenuity and tweaking it can be used on the nexus 5.

    • T4rd

As others have said; it’s too restrictive since you need a Samsung flagship to use it. But I think the worst part is it needing to be charged every night. The battery on my watch is the last thing I want to be concerned about. Plus it’s just straight nerdy looking. Not something I would want to wear in any professional environment.

      • crazed_z06

Having to charge it everynight? Do you have one?

I wish there was a way to show up time on these things because I’m going on 3 days with mine right now.. 40% battery life. In Droid Life’s incessant hating, they have completely ignored the fact that the watch has gotten a number of updates since release. The battery life really is great now and they’ve tweaked the software a bit to make it more customizable and able to get notifications from any app.

Like i said though, that stuff doesnt fit with Droid Life’s current campaign of hating on Samsung everything regardless of what it is.

        • Cael

That’s why Samsung released a sequel before a year came up.

      • Haroon Dar

To be honest I get two days use out of mine

        • crazed_z06

Do you leave the motion sensor on? With the motion sensor on, I get about 2 days… I tend to leave it off and it goes 4 days EASILY. That’s with good use too. The best use for it is at the gym and running. Very convenient seeing run progress on the watch or not having to pull out the Note 3 whenever I want to adjust volume or change the track.

    • Tony Byatt

I do agree with you on the DL hypocrisy when it comes to this device vs. other devices…

But the limited compatibility is a deal breaker for many…

  • droidify

Define deal. Doesn’t it only work with a couple galaxy devices?

    • crazed_z06

      it works with the S3, S4, S5, Note2, Note 3

      • yankeesusa

And nexus 5 if you root.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

    Oh Samsung.
